Juu
So, everyone feels stressed/completely knackered at times, so I was just wondering what everyone does to relax. Usually, I just turn on some Coldplay/Radiohead, and lay down in bed, which usually ends up turning into a two-hour nap. (Ehm, time consuming on a school day, but better than scratching at arms with pins. ¬¬) And hopefully, I'll be good enough at guitar soon so I can use an instrument as an outlet. Singing and painting is therapy for me as well. >.>;
Godelsensei
When I'm uber-stressed-out, I like to sit down at the computer and watch a few episodes of whatever anime is at hand. It's so stress-relieving, in an almost malicious way, knowing you're totally getting a permanent copy of something for free, as oppose to having to pay sixty dollars for it. I find slaying infidels works rather well, also.
MissWem
Hmm.. unfortunately I still haven't found a truly effective way to relax at all. I often and do play the piano/violin or draw or Tai Chi Sword (at least what I can remember of it) or watch tv or go online or I could go on. Usually it boils down to me pacing agitatedly then sitting in my room in a funked mood. I think I need a de-stressor.
Kwai
Stress management... crucial for me at this point in time with all the hectic college application process and such. Anyway, I usually go to the local martial arts school and practice forms. It takes a lot of concentration, so doing it helps me forget about all the stuff I have to do, if only for a short time. Unfortunately, I think this is more of a temporary denial of reality instead of actually relaxing, since I go back into a panicky, stressed out state once I exit the school.
Corey
Whenever I'm stressed, I usually go and play a first person shooter. I know it's the stereotypical thing for angry youths to do, but it really does work. Having a completely false enviroment where nothing is real where you can go around and shoot people and destroy things is very calming and stress releaving. Either that or I sleep. Sleep seems to put things in perspective. Sometimes you see things differently after two hours of sleep, or nap. ;). I also write. Some of my best posts in my Black Horizon RPG were done when I was extremely angry. Anger can be used for good hting once in a while.
kalter kuss
I usually listen to Seraphim Shock or go to a metal concert... it gets me very hyper.. but it takes my mind off of other things and relaxes me.
DeathKnight
I'm pretty laid back, so I'm not stressed out that often. If I get that way, I do some form of distraction- reading, writing, gaming and plenty of metal/rock. Maybe go for a hike if the weather isn't akin to one of the ten plagues. Metal cures all ills.
Ezekiel
Unfortunatly, when I'm stressed I tend to take it out the nearest hard object ^_^;; It's generally my wall, it does make me feel better, but hey, my knuckles could do without it. I used to go to Kung Fu twice a week and I never really felt stressed afterwards, once I was angry and hit the bag too hard, I feel sorry for my poor mother being my partner, heh heh. I agree with Corey, though, first person shooters are very relaxing indeed, I find Halo a very good relaxent, except playing on live >_< because I suck at it, which then makes me more stressed. Music is good, too, some good Linkin' Park or any songs from the Slayers anime does it for me, talk about two different extremes, eh?
Guest Sean
What do I do when I'm angry or stressed, well I'll tell you the story of Gary, the biggest moron this world has seen. Some fo you will know that I have a girlfriend, and we used to argue alot all over the basis of...Gary. Gary was hitting on her, plain as that, and again some of you will know that I went to Florida for a week. And guess what the moron did, well he asked her out...yeh, like I wasn't going to find that one out. Well I got back, and my good friend Daniel told me of his antics, and when I question Vicki I get the same from Daniel. Heh. So I go over to Gary, and ask him about it, and guess what...Everybody's lying. Fiona, Aaron, Vicki and Daniel all lied about it...ahem. Ofcourse I didn't believe him, and sooner than later got punched in the face, and smacked against a table...the relief ¬¬ Hehe, but I'm not usually violent even though I've had 3 doors this year, gah, I will usually punch the wall and shout WHY?. But feeling something break around your hand is much better than having very sore knuckles. But thats my therapy, or ofcourse Halo for a fe hours, or a nice sleep. ¬¬ I have an essay to do...oh crap, hehe.
Dragon Warrior
Women help me relax :^D But if they're not present, I often write or draw or listen to the band "Live." It's all quite soothing. But sometimes one thinks they want to relax when they actually wanna get out of where they are. Do I make sense or is this a rant? :^(
Mr. Maul
When I am "Üb3r Str3ss0red" I listen to my music. It is very soothing and theraputic to listen to the most hardcore punk rock I can. If I don't want ot listen to music, I make my own, turnig my guitar amp up all the way. Some times I engulf myself in the Ultra-Violence of Tarantino, the film genius. There's just something about watching blood splatter on the camera that's very relaxing. I also draw a lot, or just vegetate in front of the television; an infomercial playing as the soundtrack to my zoned-outness. That's it.
Dagger
When I'm stressed out, I often watch Sailor Moon, Pita Ten or something else equally cute and brainless. For some reason I also find old-looking anime (like Maison Ikkoku) rather relaxing. If I have money, buying things helps me de-stress. Assuming I don't have any cash to spare, I just set aside a few hours to bake cookies or a cake; cooking can be surprisingly relaxing. Since I'm not always in the mood for anime--even fluffy, sugary sweet anime--I've got a cabinet of videotapes filled with episodes of The Daily Show and Tom & Jerry. An odd combination, but it works well enough for the purpose of keeping my mind off things. ~Dagger~
Erika
I just hit my videogames. That always does the trick, even if it renders me vulnerable to too much thinking. X3 Or I read. But overall, IMing my friends, or playing shooters always loosens me up to a certain degree.
MissWem
But sometimes one thinks they want to relax when they actually wanna get out of where they are. Do I make sense or is this a rant? :^(
Your rant is too short to be much of a rant. However isn't it rather similar? If you feel trapped, you're stressed. Unless you mean that you simply need to, say, get out of the house for some fresh air because you've been in there for 5 days straight and have forgotten what it was like to actually feel your skin cook as you stand beneath the sun..? Hm. Or perhaps like how I severly dislike riding on buses. However I have to ride them. So I sit in one extremely 'I want out' for the full half-hour ride then feel incredibly 'stressed' and irritable afterwards : / Btw, absolutely gorgeous Christmasy red outfit you have DW ; )
Retribution
Well, when it depends on what kind of stress it is. If there's alot to do, I don't relax, I just do it, complain a little bit to vent my frustration, and finish the task. If I'm worried about something, I tend to slow my breathing down and feel my heart -- counting the number of beats the tick by. Sleep doesn't really ease the stress. It's a quick fix, a temporary solution because when I return for never land, it's right in my face again. I suppose there's more types of stress, but I won't bother to talk about all of those. Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. When I get stressed, which happens far too often for my liking my usual treatment is listening to some of the more soothing tracks on my Michael Jackson Number Ones CD, stuff like Human Nature, Don't stop 'til you get enough and Black or White help me relax and unwind. Classical music and Opera have the same effect although off the top of my head I can't think of any of the artists' names. Reading also helps me unwind though I'm not a casual reader and as such I tend to read and read until the book is finished, often leading to insomnia. Like Corey and Annie I do find the odd pixelated killing-spree to be relaxing, there's nothing like spotting a drug dealer in San Andreas and kicking eight tons of crap out of him. Any thing Star Trek (except Enterprise), Star Wars or Stargate related, be they TV Episodes, Books or Movies also let me kick back and just enjoy. Bit of exercising and weight lifting also helps a lot, get the seratonin going for that natural high.
Queen Asuka
Well, nowadays I have the great privilege of taking some anti-anxiety medication and getting COMPLETELY knocked out and falling asleep. I also like to sit at my computer and find something to do. And music is good, too. And so is watching the OC. ^_^;
