Guest ScirosDarkblade
The Venture Brothers is one of the funniest cartoons I've seen in a long, long time. Who else here has seen it? It's a parody on everything, but mostly on Johnny Quest. Dean and Hank Venture are two older teens who live with their single dad, Doctor Venture, and bodyguard Brock Samson. They have BS "adventures" where they encounter really strange villains, but mostly it's about how big an *** Doctor Venture is and how awesome Brock Samson is. The show has everything you'd want, from aquaman pajamas to hordes of ninjas to crazy fights between Brock and that evil one-eyed spy lady he has the hots for. It's on in the middle of the night on Cartoon Network. Watch it!
Brasil
Oh hell yes. Venture Bros is one of the reasons I watch Adult Swim (the other reasons being Sealab 2021, Futurama, and the occasional hit of ATHF). It's one of those cartoons that just takes an entire genre of cartoon and shows just how absurd it is. Whether it's the thinly veiled Johnny Quest satire, or outlandish pop culture references/cameos--hell, in a recent episode I saw, Lee Majors (the Six Million Dollar Man) was living with Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest, and the US Government was hunting them down, effectively ruining Brock's "vacation." I couldn't believe how Brock smuggled them out...lol. While this is going on, we have the Venture Bros and Dr. Venture trapped in their Panic Room back at the mansion, with this assault/security droid pounding on the door, because Dr. Venture was a lazy programmer and didn't yet install the "Friends" Protocols. As if this weren't insane enough, two rival evil empires, The Monarchs and...darn, I forget the other name, are planning an assault on the mansion, but aren't aware that they're both going to be doing it at the same time. They both show up, go "wtf," then don't talk to each other the rest of the night, because apparently, it's in incredibly bad form to not consider the other empire's evil plans, lol. Soon enough, one of the Monarchs go on over and invite the others to have a few drinks and such, and then the individual members start opening up and telling their life sob stories over a few beers. One of the most insane, bizarre, outlandish, and side-splittingly funny cartoons I've seen. I'm really looking forward to Season 1 coming out on DVD eventually. satan665
Wow this is a ridiculously good show. I really hope it gets picked up for a new season, though the last episode sort fo makes me question whether or not that is going to happen. They somehow balance movie and cartoon parody with really wacky situations, but its tied together with really good writing. The villian may be dressed as a monarch butterfly, but they show them kinda realistically. The Monarch is like some guy trying to be an evil supervillian, and has all of the gear and henchmen but half the time speaks like a normal guy. I really like the part when he
captures the venture brothers and then starts getting attached to them and fathering them. That and the repeat that was on last night where Brock starts a killing spree in the cocoon just so that they have something to do
. Endymion
I would have to agree with you all, that The Venture Brothers is a great show. I think my favorite episode is when Dr. Venture has the yard sale,
and one of The Monarch's henchmen buys a lightsaber created by the doc. When all hell breaks loose, the henchman stands before Brock ready for battle with his new weapon, only to find out that it doesn't actually cut through anything. :D
There are so many good episodes, I don't think I've seen a bad one. Can't say the same for Sealab 2021, I think the quality went downhill after the 2nd season. The Venture Brothers is the highlight of my Adultswim viewing, Family Guy is a close second in favoritism. Then I picked up on Aqua teen, which was kinda crappy the first few episodes but really started to hit stride. I'm a huge ATHF fan, but its kinda tapering off (my love for it). Venture brothers fills in the gap and is probably funnier than any of the Adult Swim shows.
Zen
Oh Ho! "Venture Bros.", what a great show that I love so much! Parodying everything from Johnny Quest to the Marvel Superhero Universe (gotta love that Fantastic Four spoof with the mentally challenged Thing and the painful plitted Human Torch). Man I love that show. I was pretty dissapointed at the shows end, I was hoping for the continous, open-ended play that Family Guy has, but then again, that last line was pretty funny though...
Over the shadow of dead Venture Brothers;"Alright, lets get their clothes and get outta here...
My favorite episode was probably either the one where Brock Samson (the super-badass bodyguard who reminds me of a blonde Solid Snake) loses his license to kill and has to retake the entrance exam into the his branch of the goverment. To great lines from that are: Hank: "Why do you even wanna be a secret agent boy!? Do you think you have what it takes?!" Brock: "Hank, seriously, after I get my license back I'm aloud to kill you..." Hank: "Oh, sorry, Brock." and Brock: "You boys need to get to bed, you father's gonna be home late... (steps back to see Dean dressed up as an Indian-Man slave) W-why would you dress like that?" Another great episode was when Dean got testicular torsion... oh, and the yard-sale episode, and the very first episode ("He Got Speedy!"), and the Monarchs court trial, oh and where Hank got infected with the exploding serum and Race Bannon died by getting hit by a plane that he caused to wreck... yeah, that was a great one... Its apparent now that I have a never dying love for the show, and as the caterpillar Dr. Venture would say, "I feel... compelled..."
