Villains Threaten Peaceful Metropolis!
Trouble is brewing in our peaceful Metropolis as superpowered villains make their presence known! Buildings are being decimated, the environment turns black with smoke, banks are robbed, people are brutally beaten...who can stand up against their tyranny? Aren't there any heroes out there who can stop these horrors?
"Everybody down!"

The glass doors of Nugatory Municipal Bank exploded open as several armed men in ski masks filed in. The patrons instantly dropped, for fear of the masked gunmen.

"Everybody, hand over everything you got! Money, jewley, watches!" cried a large man in front of the gang.

"And yer pants!"

"Yeah, fork over your pants! Clothes shoppin ain't cheap, you know!"

The "leader" marched over to the teller counters, holding a large burlap sack in one hand, semi-automatic in the other. He was greeted by a gorgeous red head in a white outfit.

"Okay, toots, fork over the dough."

"And yer pants!"

"Yeah, those to!"

"And yer bra!"

The leader looked over at the man clammoring for clothes. He gestured to another gunman, who promptly pistol whipped the underwear-seeker.

"Now where was we?"

"That's 'where were we, crook!" cried the young woman.

With a single punch, the gunman was sent hurtling across the marble bank floor. A second punch caused the bullet-proof plexiglass to explode, allowing the young woman to swing out of the teller-room and into the lobby.

One of the thugs was about to fire, but a flower-pot struck him in the skull, exploding on contact. A man in black and yellow dropped from the balcony, energy crackling around his hand.

A thug standing near a fishtank took aim on the yellow-clad hero. Suddenly, an angelfish shot out of the tank, transforming into a wolf as it arced through the air. It collapsed onto the thug, turning into a young man with long brown hair in a strange brown trenchcoat.

Two other men began to fire, but were struck with beams of energy just as the bullets began to leave their guns. The room was full of noise as the two hit the ground, a young man in black and red dropping from another balcony.

The rest prepared to run. But before most even got halfway to the door, they were brought down by fierce gusts of wind. One suddenly burst into flames. A young girl with orange and pink hair slowly floated down from a chandelier, fire surrounding her in a blazing spiral.

The leader quickly scrambled to his feet amongst the chaos, running to the door. Just as he stepped outside, he was met by a man in a black trenchcoat, a large X emblazened on his shirt. The black-clad man slammed his fist into the gunman's gun, the sound of an explosion ringing out as the thug flew through the air.

"Fear not good people," cried the man in black. "For with us around, you need not fear the scum that inhabits the darkest pits of our good city. For we are, the X-League!"

"Damnit X," screamed the red-haired girl. "How many times do I have to tell you, League is taken!"

X chuckled weakly, muttering to the girl, "Shut up Lawless. You're ruining my speech!"

"Oh, I think your doing a fine job of that by yourself," sneered the girl.

Several of the other heroes snickered.

"You gotta admit, she's got you there," laughed a thug.

X shot the criminal a piercing glare, firing a beam of energy at him. The thug collapsed again. He turned to face Lawless again.

"I don't need your lip," X growled.

"Yeah, you just want 'em!" yelled the man in red.

"Shut it, Mouth!" chorused the two heroes.

"Just expressing the truth," said Mouth, shrugging. "Ain't that right, Breakdown? Wolf? Luci?"

"Don't call me Luci!" shrieked the strange-haired girl. "It's Lucifer!"

"Would you all quit yelling!" yelled the brown-haired man. "It's driving me nuts!"

"Already there, Wolf, already there," Mouth sniggered.

A growl rose in Wolf's throat, but the last hero stepped in between the two.

"Let's just calm down, guys," said the yellow-clad man.

"Breakdown's right," X said, sternly. "We don't want either of you dead...I think."

"Let's just go before the press gets here, okay?" Lawless grumbled.

"Right! To the X-Mobile!"

"You mean the minivan, right?" Mouth asked.

X sighed deeply.

"Yes Mouth, the minivan."

Just a typical day in the lives of the Dysfunctionals. For no explicable reason, they all live together in a fairly large mansion. Feel free to send them on more missions, but please let me introduce Madame Mundane.

Dysfunctionals, away!

Andrew Whitten, or Breakdown as he preferred to be called, awoke the next day with a glorious yawn. Throwing on a shirt and pair of pants lying on the floor, he stumbled downstairs. He entered the living room to find Mouth with his head in the fridge and Wolf sitting on the couch, a plate with an abnormal amount of eggs, ham, and bacon lying on his lap.

"Hey, Wolf! Save any of that for me?"

Breakdown was answered by the turning head of a growling doberman.

"Alright, alright, yeesh."

"Aww, don't worry about him, bombs. He's just extra hungry 'cause we ran out of kibbles n' bits last night."

With a crash, the plate of food fell to the ground as Wolf bounded toward Mouth in full wolf form. Mouth, still preoccupied with half of a banana, smirked and concentrated a ball of red energy in each hand.

"WHOA, whoa, whoa! Can we have one civil breakfast around here, please? Huh? Now, just chill, guys..."

With a grunt, Wolf changed back and walked away.

"Whatever. Just tell that idiot to keep his...well, mouth shut."

"My thoughs exactly, bombs! What we need around here is some peace and quiet. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off for my morning constitutional."

Mouth paused as he opened the main door, a smile growing across his lips.

"Mouth...don't!"

"Hey, Wolfy, I'm going outside! You want a walk? Huh, do ya boy?"

With a snarl, Wolf sped after Mouth again, this time Breakdown not even trying to intervene. With a sigh, he scooped up the food lying on the floor, threw it away, and grabbed a soda from the still-open fridge.

Man, those two...I wonder how I even got into this.

He sat down on the now-unnocupied couch with a slump, turned on the TV, sat back, and took a sip.

Wolf and Mouth are almost unbearable together...Mouth's hard enough by himself. At least X and Lawless seem to like me. And Luci...well, she tolerates me, at least. And that's a start. Everything has to have a start.

Breakdown looked toward the stairs as another pair of feet came down.

"Good morning! Care for some eggs?"

Lawless yawned loudly as she half stumbled, half fell down the last three steps, barely catching the banister in time to break her fall. Breakdown blinked and stared before blushing, turning his attention to his eggs and bacon. Lawless sighed and looked down, seeing that her pink, fuzzy dressing gown had come undone.

"Oh, bugger..." she sighed, jumping down the last two steps and tying the robe up, walking past Breakdown trying to act like nothing had happened.

"So, Beth, you want some eggs?" Breakdown asked for the second time, trying desperately to look his friend in the eye while she mock glared him.
"Actually, no, I'm not very hungry this morning...." with that the young redhead plopped herself down on the couch, snuggling up to a large fluffy pillow while switching on the wide screen.

"Anything you want to watch?" The girl asked through the pillow, her voice muffled. Breakdown cocked an eyebrow and looked at her questioningly,
"Excuse me?"

Lawless sighed deeply and wiped a few strands of hair from her eyes dramatically,
"No one ever listens to me!" with that she drifted upstairs to find someone to talk to, hoping that it wouldn?t be X. She shuddered at the thought, he could be so annoying.

"Mornin', Lawless," X yawned, stepping out of his room. He scratched his touseled brown hair. He was wearing a pair of black pants and that was it.

"Oh God, it's you," Lawless groaned.

"That's a fine good morning, miss," X said, glaring at her with sleepy eyes. "Why're you in such a bad mood?"

"Cause I accidentally flashed Breakdown."

X paused for a moment and stared at Lawless, as if trying to become a human-polygraph. Then he shrugged and walked away.

"Where's breakfast!?" he yelled.

"In the kitchen!" Breakdown replied.

As X heaped his plate with eggs, he called out, "so, saw Lawless naked did ya?"

The sound of Breakdown choking rang out.

"A simple yes would've sufficed."

"So, where's the rest of the gang?" asked X, his head stuck in the pantry. "Bread, bread...my kingdom for some..ah, there it is!"

Breakdown finished off his soda and switched off the TV.

"Well, you know were Lawless is. Luci's probably still sleeping, and god knows where the two Tweedledee's are."

X cocked an eyebrow at the last remark.

"You know, the two Tweedledee's? Tweedledee and..."

X continued to stare blankly.

"...um, Tweedledum. Tweedledee and Tweedledum. You know, from Alice in Wonderland?

X simply shrugged and sat down at the counter. "Once again, proof that a joke isn't funny if you have to explain it. And you meant Mouth and Wolf, right?"

"Uh, yeah, hehe," said Breakdown, nervously rubbing the back of his neck. Man, the people here really are a hard crowd...

"Whatever. As long as those two hellions aren't tearing up the mansion."

"Yeah, I guess." Throwing on his jacket, Breakdown gestured over his shoulder at the door. "Hey, I'm goin' for a walk. Care to join?"

"Not today, pal. I have an important meeting with Gilligan's Island." said X, turning on the TV once again.

------------------------------------------------------------

Breakdown strode down the sun-dappled lawn of the mansion. Checking to see no one was around, he placed his hands together. A sweat drop ran down his cheek as he concentrated every ounce of energy between his hands. A small crackle of yellow energy suddenly appeared. With even more determination, the ball grew bigger.

"Yeah...I'm doing it! I'm actually doing it!"

Laughing, pain suddenly shot through Breakdown's body. With lightning speed, the ball shot out in a dozen directions, each tangent of yellow light striking the trees and ground, exploding on contact. Panting, Breakdown lowered his arms from in front of his face, catching his breath as the dust cleared. Kicking a tree newly uprooted from the blast, Breakdown cursed under his breath.

"Damnit! Why does this keep happening?"

Picking up a small rock, Breakdown charged it, tossed it into the air, and watched as it blew apart into fragments before touching the ground.

"Why can't I activate my power without a physical medium?"

With a sigh, Breakdown walked toward the mansion once again.

Umm.. I feel like I should clear something up. My hair isn't so much as long but shaggy and my trenchcoat is dark gray not brown. That's all. ;)

Yeah you go to your morning?whatever it is. Joel thought as he turned to go back inside the mansion, clenching his teeth as he walked up the walkway. Anger was surging through him as he grabbed the door handle and yanked open the door. ?Why does he have to pick on me? Why?
Because you are a wimp. Easy to pick on. A voice answered in a condescending tone. Joel shook his head, trying to rid it of the annoying his voice.
You know it?s true. The voice persisted. Joel glared even though the voice couldn?t here it. Wimp. Wimp. it taunted repeatedly as Joel rounded a corner.

?Shut up.? Joel said as he walked into the living room. X, startled looked up from Gilligan?s Island. Joel sauntered in and sat down on the couch next to X, staring at the T.V. though his eyesight made it hard for him to see the picture clearly. He had stare to at it to make out the picture the pixels were making. Plus it was turned up a little loud for his liking, and his goggles weren?t helping but he didn?t feel like taking them off.

?Ummm..Wolf. Have you taken your medication this morning?? X asked hesitantly his eyes peering intently from under the mass of black hair. Joel smiled sadly as he pushed the goggles up onto his forehead. He was sorry to say that X had learned early on that Joel was cranky in the mornings.

? No. But thanks for reminding me.? He answered trying to sound cheerful X stared sternly at Joel. ?Fine, I?m going, I?m going.? X watched him as he went into the kitchen. Joel laughed and pulled down the bottle of pills, taking out two and swallowing them without water. He didn?t like taking his medicine, it made him drowsy and he sometimes wished he would just through it away. He smiled to himself knowing that he would never do that, it was the only thing the doctors could find that would keep him from having another episode. And he didn?t ever want to have one of those again, didn?t ever want to feel that scared and confused again. He turned back to X smiling.

?Happy?? X nodded and turned back to his show. Joel was glad that he had X as a friend. ?I think I?ll go for a walk want to come?? The figure on the couch grunted before answering.

?You know I think you?re the second or third person to ask me that. Thanks but no.?

?That?s alright I really don?t feel like one anyway.? Joel said and headed up the stairs looking for something to do or someone to talk to.
