MaineOtakuNo2
Anime Boston 2005, run by the New England Anime Association, I was thinking of going, if I can get the money. However, I am a newbie at conventions and thought it would be good to get some input on what to expect. I hope its not as hectic as Comic Party but I guess it could be. Also the registration form says I need a "name printed on badge", being a newb I have no idea so any input would be good. By the way its held in the Hynes Convention center and their expecting a very large crowd, I beleive over 2000. So is anyone else going, or for that matter gone to either of the other Anime Boston's? Panda
I personally have not attended Anime Boston, but I do have a friend who attended last year since he works in the anime industry. He told me the convention was conducted in a very professional manner. It was run more like a business than a fan run convention. For instance, picking up your badges only took 1/2 an hour! That is really good considering many people at Anime Expo had to stand in line for 3 hours even if they had pre-registered. To answer the "name on the badge" question what they want is the name you want to appear on your badge. The name on your badge can be your name or your nickname. If there is enough room sometimes they will put both. In order to enter the convention every attendee will be wearing name badges. These badges will also say if you are there under a "Full Pass" which is for everyday of the con or just a single day badge. Many cons also have special badges for minors so convention staff will know if they are too young to enter things like the Hentai viewing rooms. My sugestion would be to make sure you wear comfortable shoes. No matter how well run a con is, you will be standing in line for something. If you have more questions feel free to email or PM me. ^_^ Have fun at Anime Boston if you get to go!
KarmaOfChaos
Wear comfortable shoes. It's not just the standing in line...it's the massive amounts of walking. Regardless of how comfortable your shoes are, your feet will probably be hurting by the end of the day, but with comfortable, sole and heel supporting shoes, it shouldn't happen until much later in the day, and it won't be nearly so bad. Also, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on food at the convention, bring store-bought snacks or homemade stuff if you can. Food is expensive at cons. (Two dollars for a 20 oz soda...I. don't. think. so.) Oh, and one last thing - have fun! -Karma
Endymion
Is anyone planning on going to the Big Apple Animefest in 2005. It got canceled this year due to the Republican National Convention absorbing much New York City's resources. I was disappointed in not being able to go, but its given me more time to work on my costume. Well...even though it's given me more time, I'm still being captain lazy. Anyway, if a few people from OB go, we should walk around like a gang of sorts. ^_^
MaineOtakuNo2
Well with the shoes, last night I was at a punk concert (Hoobastank, Three Days, Grace and Letter Kills) and they did O.K. Also I work at McDonalds so I'm used to standing by now. Now I really don't have a nickname besides DoNut from my old CS days (hopefully we won't have a CS fan start ranting), so I guess I'll just put my name. Maybe I'll modify it a little bit. Gin
I've never been to an anime convention either I was hoping to go to Anime USA (the one at Tyson's Corner) but it was on Halloween weekend and I had way to much going on... there is another one in February at Arlington on the 18th-20th ...the Katsucon (and only 79 more days!!!) but enough about conventions near me... I hope you have a great time at the convention and get lots of goodies!!! And I personally think it would be interesting if it were like the ones in comic party (I want that squirt gun!!) Erg? I was almost positive I saw someone mention something about doing a cosplay but now I can?t find it? oh! Found it! ?DarkSesshoumaru who are you cosplaying as? Are we aloud to talk about us wanting to go to different conventions too? Cause if we aren?t woops because that?s practically all my post having not ever been to a convention yet my self... (but that WILL change February!) Anyways I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for easy to dress up as for a first time cosplayer outfits that still would look good and not something that?s to mainstream and there will be a lot of people dressed up as. Any suggestions? Or a group of easy to cosplay as people in case I can get any of my friends to join me? Have fun and good look MaineOtakuNo2
Kawaii Seth
I am one of the few anime fans who live in San Antonio, Texas and Uchi-con, in Austin, is the only thing left open for me to attend. Ushi-con is a lot of fun if you love walking around a hotel talking to random fans. Ushi-con 2005 takes place on the last friday of January and carries on into Feb. 1 I think. I plan to attend this one as I did last year. Last year, I went as Alucard from Hellsing and got a lot of compliments. No... Texas is not filled with nothing but rednecks. :drunk: So we do have a lot of anime fans who go all wild-crazy (Like most conventions.) So... if anyone is interested in attending Ushi-con in Austin... or just finding out more about it, you can either pm me or just look for the link. =^-^= I hope SOMEONE lives close by... I at least would like a chance to show off my home made Kakashi costume... u.u Just kidding! It is home made though... >.>
Godelsensei
Cons can most definately get as hectic as the ones depicted in "Comic Party". I mean, come on, you haven't seen the plushie bins. I had to push and shove and throw Inu Yasha and Yusuke at people to make them leave so I could get my Sakura plushie. That thing was so expensive and is so cute, it never leaves my bedroom. Additionally, I had to run down the aisles of the original art area to claim the last edition of my shounen ai Naruto print of Sasuke grabbing Naruto's ***. I got it by half a second. Hah! Ph34r m4h m4d c0n 5k1||z, j0. Karmi's right: don't buy food at the con. I went a day without eating more than a grilled cheese sandwich and was fine, but not everybody can do that. And the shoes must, indeed, be comfortable. Have fun and be sure to scream at people, calling them by their cosplay personas.^^
