After the Curtains Close...

Whenever I finish watching (a good) anime, there are a few things I just cannot resist doing. First, if I like the artwork enough, or there's a certain aesthetic value to some scenes, I accumulate a picture archive. Next, if I can't satiate my appetite for discussion, I write down all the aspects of the anime I found interesting, along with my ideas, thoughts, and theories about them.

Of course, if I didn't have it already, my next intent is to grab the anime on DVD. Usually, I'll buy the collector's box first, wait for the rest of the series to be released, and then buy the remainder all at once. I'm not in a hurry to see what happens next, and this saves me money and time. My collection is admittedly small, though, because I only get the anime series I think are worth getting and are actually out in the US.

For my favorite among favorites, I rip the anime out of the DVD so the actual disc can be saved for "special occassions" and I can view the DVD as casually as I want without worry about scratching the disc. I'm nit-picky like that. :p

Now the trickiest thing for me is the music. Most of the time, when the anime is worth getting, the soundtrack is also spectacular, therefore making it a must-have for me. While I usually download it first, actually buying the soundtrack is another thing. I would prefer to get the domestic version, but it is really hard to tell if an anime's soundtrack may be released over here. Consequently, I sometimes never get around to getting the soundtrack even if I do like it...

That's the gist of my behavior after becoming enthralled by an anime series. What do you do after seeing an anime? Do you rave about it, buy it, grab everything pertaining to it, etc.? In what order do you do it? Why do you do what you do?

The underlying reason to this thread is probably that I'm trying to extend my "anime activities" and am curious to see what others do - and if I'm the only psycho who commits the deeds above.

After finishing a series, if I liked it I will usually go out and pick up the OST. Sorry, but I honestly am not a big fan of the actual shows themselves at times, just the music. I can usually find almost any anime OST online, at Amazon.com or even, Borders. I have a very large collection of anime OST's, and OST's in general (I know, lots of you already know this lol). I am very appricative of good, creative music that just oozes with style. I do buy some series on DVD, but mainly music is where it's at. :D

A show's music selection is just as important as, I'll go as far to say the PLOT itself. But again, you can see just how important I think music is to a series here. I don't feel like recapping everything I've said in the past few months! lol

When I finish a show I really, really love (the most recent example of this being Full Moon wo Sagashite), the first thing I do rave about it, and also take the opportunity to read all the discussions, summaries, reviews, etc. that I avoided before for fear of spoilers.

If it's unlicensed, I send positive vibes at all the good NA companies in hopes that someone will decide to pick it up soon. If it's licensed, chances are I already own all the merchandise I want--I don't buy much anime-related stuff other than DVDs, and the pack-in items sometimes included are more than enough for me.

Whether or not I buy an OST has a lot more to do with the music than with how much I enjoyed the show, if that makes any sense. For example, I very much like Fruits Basket, but wouldn't spend my money on its soundtrack(s). When the series in question does have extremely good music and the OST is licensed--imports are too expensive for me--then I'll get it.

Meanwhile, of course, I'll be on the hunt for wallpaper, high-quality scans and so forth. Assuming this anime has become one of my all-time favorites, I usually seek out the manga as well (regardless of whether it was made before or after the show). I join whatever fanlistings I can find and bookmark good shrines/fansites.

If the series made a huge impression on me, emotionally or otherwise, I try to avoid watching other anime for at least a couple of days (just to savor the feeling and let it all sink in). Often I'll start re-watching it in whatever language I initially passed on--dubbed if I first saw it subbed, and vice versa. I think I went through the final disc of Revolutionary Girl Utena at least three or four times in the space of a couple days, because I enjoyed it so much I immediately wanted to hear the Japanese version as well as the dub, in addition to all of the director's commentary and so forth. Normally I avoid commentary tracks; it's only when I absolutely love a show that I listen to them.

That's all I can think of, heh. :)

I pretty much do what you do if its really good, maybe not in that order. if I see a second series of something on TV and love it, the first thing I do is search the web and research until I know everything that isnt a spoiler and sometimes more. I usually base the rest on pictures, music, and however much money I have, which is hardly rver anything.

He's not lying... I saw the second inu-yasha movie with him...

When I watch a good anime, I frantically search for information on where I can buy, and the times that I decide to quit being such a tight-waud with my cash, I run out and buy the anime... only if it's in america though because shipping costs over seas are just plain rediculous.

Then... I see if there are any related animes to the topic, like when I saw X 2000, I went on a search for animes of the same topic and found my current fave: Akira.

After I do that, I download the entire soundtrack for the anime... Currently working on FLCL right now, if Twilight would be so kind as to let me siphen through his collection and steal some stuff...

I usually look up images of that anime, and music. Music especially if I like it, and check to see if I missed any OVAS or Specials. Then I might look at a review or too, nothing special. If I really liked the anime, I will look into buying the manga. But only if it really struck me, which doesn't happen all that often I must say. Music is the most thing I go for.
