I finally got my hands on American Idiot. I don't understand why it's parental advisory. Three days grace says ******* twice and ******* quite a few times not to mention H*** ( which really isn't that bad). The three days grace cd wasn't P.A. so why does American Idiot have to be? I don't get it!

American Idiot contains the F word in pretty much every song.

Profanity of that kind is deserving of a parental advisory.

If you don't like it, you could always write Michael Powell at the FCC.

I have always been a green day fan. I met them when they were first getting started. My parents were managing a clothes line on a tour called Lalapalooza. Green Day was there and my dad gave them free clothes. I met the drummer and we skipped rocks. The drummer ALSO went on to WEAR THOSE PANTS AT WOODSTOCK 95! Great....

I love their new CD. American Idiot is a cool and funny song. Ive had that freakin Boulevard of Broken Dreems song stuck in my head since it came on.

I don't listen to the radio often, so I tend to be a bit behind the current music scene. Reading this thread, I looked through iTunes until I found Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and as I'm listening to it right now, I think I like it.

It's got sort of a dark, gritty feel to it, which is interesting. I don't often hear music like that. Would anyone agree with me on that description of the sound? (And if so, any suggestions on similar music?)

Yeah, I think that American Idiot is definently Green Day's best album. I honestly can say that there isn't a bad song on it, from start to finish. Alright, so Extraordianry Girl isn't exactly great by any stretch of the imagination, but each song is good, and the album as a whole just plain rocks.

My favorite American Idiot song? Hmm...probably a tie between Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Jesus of Suburbia. Boulevard is one of those songs that I can listen to over and over and over, and Jesus of Suburbia is undoubtedly one of Green Day's best songs ever, bar none.

Oh, and as for those of you who thought that it shouldn't be a Parental Advisory album, well, it may not have been entirely deserving of it, because there are sparing few songs that say ******* that stand out in my mind, but it does swear an awful lot. Still, American Idiot is one of my favorite albums to come out this year.

Green Day is a pretty decent band in my opinion. Playing lots of easy licks and power chords isn't too hard, but the ability to make songs out of them that have great hooks and are pleasing to most people is more so.

More power to them I suppose. I won't be buying their album because I don't really ever go out and buy music. I'm more of a pirate myself but that's something completely beside the point.

Green Day is alright, I guess. If they can make millions off their records, then they're obviously doing something right but in my opinion aren't any greater than your average band.

I kinda wonder the same thing. I own both cds, and They both need PAs, not just Green Day. I adore both bands, Green Day especially. That Boulevard of Broken Dreams song is so cool.

Green Day was sort of a gateway for me into the larger rock/punk scene. American Idiot was a departure, to some extent, from what they?d done in the past. Like you said, it has a little darker and grittier feel to it, which is much different from the pretty easy listening stuff they?d put out earlier.

So after I?d gone through most of their older music, I went onto other groups. New Found Glory, Bad Religion and Alkaline Trio are probably some of the better among them. If you?re leaning that way, I could probably send you the 2004 Warped Tour Compilation, which has most of those groups and plenty more. From there, you cold go with what you like.

Parental advisories aren't only used for cursing. The message is very important. Listen to some of the lyrics. They say f * * * America! That's not exactly what i'd want my kids to hear (when i get kids). There's more, that's just one example. All of that aside, i must say i do like Green Day. They rock.

Later.

I'm fairly certain the lyrics say that the media tries to mind-******* America, not "******* America"

Not that I'd condone giving music with F-bombs in it to little kids anyhow lol. But that's not the band's intended audience.
