Guest Garelock
Tonight was a VERY rough night for me. I coach a little girl's basketball team from grades 6 through 8 and we won the game but the referees were crap. I'll give you an example of the crap that went on tonight. This one girl on our team was LITERALLY punched in the eye and had a fist mark on her eye. She was out cold for 30 minutes and you're meaning to tell me that's not a foul?! The boys and girls played tonight though. One of our boys caught the ball and got pushed out of bounds and the referees were saying that it was out on us. HOW?! On top of that, I ask the referees why they weren't calling everything and do you know what one of them had the nerve to tell me?! "It's not our job to call all the fouls..." Then whose job is it?! Now, based off everything I'm saying, should I or should I not go to the press with this and report some foul play with the referees? The name of the team is the Felton Middle school Bulldogs. BOTH of the teams were undefeated and now only the girls are undefeated. The boys got cheated tonight. The boys played the school that is ranked 20th in the entire nation and blew them out by 42 points and you're meaning to tell me that they go to place like Holly Hill middle and get skunked by 23 points?! I don't care who you are, somebody has to see that something is wrong with that picture. Of course, we ALL know who was at home and who was away... Corey
Now I'm trying to be impartial, and I'm having one hell of a hard time doing it. I've been both on the recieving and dealing end of your problem. Back when I played football, some of the refs were extremely crooked. Sometimes it worked in our favor, while other times it worked against us. Eventually, the crooked refs were fired for accepting bribes. My advice to you is to find someone that videotaped the game and look through the tape for the problems you mentioned. If you can prove beyond any doubts that your team was being cheated, then go to not only the press, but whoever hired the refs. I'm pretty sure that purposely sabotaging a game, like you said they were doing, is illegal. Do remember that just because you can see the bad call on the tape doesn't mean that others will. You know what to look for. They don't. Be sure that it's extremely obvious.
Baron Samedi
Referees are only human...but if they were crossing the line, I'd take that information somewhere. I've dealt with unfair refereeing. I've been pulled up unfairly too. Sometimes you just have to get together with your team afterwards and have a good old bitching session :p

Guest Garelock
I didn't say that she didn't. She went to the hospital and she got out this morning because she wasn't doing so well when she got there. So you can understand why I argued with the referee so much that I got ejected out of the game along with the rest of the coaching staff.
Retribution
I've always been on the recieving end of that stuff. And yes, they need to hire younger refs, with better eye sight, and are actually young enuff to follow the play.
PWNED
I know how you feel. THat it one of the best things about going to a sporting event, Being able to shout obcsenities at the referee although it is frownded upon at little league or something. Sui Generis
You know, I think it's quite odd. For a long time I thought that referees were just plain stupid, and were out to cheat one team or another, and I'm sure in some cases they are. However, one thing I've noticed from playing baseball for 11 years now is well, "No matter what the umpires are like, if you play one hell of a game, there's no way you can lose." My coach said that to us after we lost a close game against our rivals, and of course we started bitching about the umpires. Now with basketball I know it's a bit different, because the referees are involved in a lot different way, so I don't honestly know much about the situation. However, if they were crooked take it up with the authorities thats the best thing to do, otherwise suck it up. It's a part of sports really, it's a trade off sometimes you get good umps/refs sometimes you get bad umps/refs. But seroiusly if you think beyound a shadow of a doubt that these guys were crooked, then get a video tape as Corey said and watch it. Pretty much use what he told you to do, thats the best plan. At your next practice though don't complain about the referees to your team, in fact don't even mention it, if you do it's just going to tell your team its ok to make excuses. Untill theres 100% truth that thye were crooked, and the media knows about it as well as the authorites, then don't say a word. Simple fact is it's better for them as both players and people.
