Muad'Dib
Me and a friend were enjoying a good round of Halo 2 matchmaking the other day, when we decided to do some Team Skirmish. The map loads up, everything starts off well, and we take off in a Warthog (jeep). A few moments later, we're blown up, but that's not what irks me. Our killer was not just a nine year old jerk, but had to repeatedly curse us out. I quote, "Aw yeah, come on niggers, what now niggers? You want some more *****?!" Normally, I don't have a problem with some friendly taunting, but every now and then you run into someone who's a complete (for lack of a better word) jackass. People like this can completely ruin the best games. The worst part is, they're usually not even very good at the game in the first place! Does anyone else have issues with overly-competitive or just plain rude online players? (Just a thought)
Sol-Blade
Does anyone else have issues with overly-competitive or just plain rude online players? (Just a thought)[/COLOR']
You'll find rude players everywhere, lots of people take the game way to seriously and have nothing better to do than to trash talk. I could rant on here for awhile, but by far the game where the most trash is talked, is Unreal Tournament. I run my own UT2k4 clan, and we've had our share of idiots in our time. Such lingo like: no0b, owned, L3Et, ghey, haxor, and xloc get annoying after awhile. It's not "cool" to say things like that, too bad majority of people say it. I can usually get along just nicely in our VCTF server, but sometimes I can't stand people who are unsportsman-like and can't take it when there is someone better than them. It's no secret, thousands of people play Unreal, chances are that someone is going to be better than you. The fact that some people can't swallow this concept really shows either 1.How stupid and arrogant they are...or 2.How young they are. Apparently, if someone is way better than you...instead of complimenting him the best way to go now-a-days is to call him out as a cheater, and say things like he is hacking and using an aimbot or some crap like that. I can tell when someone is using an aimbot, I've been a server admin for...god knows how long, and I've banned my share of cheaters. I. HATE. Cheaters. I take every accusation seriously, which is why I get mad with all the false complaints I get. But still, if you have to resort to cheating, you're pretty sad. If anyone here has played UT, then you know that all the elitist pricks come from DM. You can play any other gametype, and you'll always find some guy bragging that "If this was DM, I would OWN you all" or some rubbish like that. What's funny is, he probably could. Good for him, I hope his e-ego is even larger now. My question is, if he is so good at DM...what is he playing VCTF for? Hmph. =/ UT04 has voice support, and by far it's the WORST thing to happen to the series. I can't believe, how many, annoying people, have mics. Now wait, I may sound like a hypocrite. But you have to understand...there are some really, REALLY, annoying people out there. But besides that, people don't even use the public channels properly. Let me expound on what I consider proper. Proper talk, is NOT saying "D'oh! I just died...aww! I died again!" or "LOL I just owned that guy!" and so on. So, I just disabled voice on UT. I use Teamspeak2 or Ventrilo if I want to talk anyways.
Guest Zakura Chan
Oh Boy...Your telling me. I was playing with like hmm..5 of my friends...on Halo 2 of course. Ezekiel
Oh, so I'm not the first to have this problem. I'll be the first to admit, I'm no master of Halo 2, or any XBox game at that matter. I was at my friend's, Steven, house and he was playing on Halo 2 Live while I had the headset. I was just sitting there, not speaking, and some kids are being immature saying that they like strawberry toast. I laughed at that. So Ste carries on playing and tell me to pass on the message that it wasn't him on the headset, it was his friend, Jamie, you know, just in case anyone wanted to speak to him. So I talk and the whole thing goes quiet at hearing a girl?s voice. Then one guys goes, "What the ****? You a girl?" That just plain annoyed me; I can't see why it would be so hard to believe that a girl enjoys gaming. But anyway, it just irked me that someone feels it necessary to use that kind of language on an online game when it clearly isn't necessary. Maybe I'm just old fashioned...

Baron Samedi
On Battlefield, I've been pissed off too, by sore losers or people who are just plain annoying. At least with BF:V it seems that most members are older, more mature, or slightly less n00bish than the people you are describing...but they can be just as bad in their own way. Essentially, you just have to put up and tell them to shut up. It doesn't hurt you forever, lol.
Sol-Blade
Well, in every online-enabled game I've played (and I've played alot), the average attitude of gamers has really, really gotten low. It's funny to see people talk trash, it must make them feel all high and mighty! lol Alas, in UnrealTournament: You can't be good, or your a *%@&! aimbot/hacker. You can't be bad, or your a *%@&! no0b.

I've been playing PlanetSide a lot lately, but most of the people I've talked to in game have been pretty cool. There was this one guy that I accidentally team killed while bombing some enemies that was kind of pissed, but other than that, everyone seems to be decently friendly. (Most people seem to realize that accidental friendly fire just happens occasionally, and they deal with it.) Unless you're in a BFR, and you run into an anti-BFR whiner. But I don't pilot BFRs, so I haven't had to worry. It's mainly just on the PlanetSide forums that people trash talk. Kind of funny to read, sometimes. People can get so upset over stupid little things.
PWNED
In Socom 2, I was having a complete free for all against some of my mates online except we were short one person so we decided to let in another bloke. BNig mistake with that cause he was the biggest bastard you have ever seen. Every single time I got a kill on him "Oh you ******** n00b, you got lucky" and when he got someone " How do you like that *****, I can kick all your *****". ******** like these guys are not needed in a game because they seem to kill all friendly banter between everyone. I also play sniper and spawn camp to get the same effect.

Attimus331
Yeah...they totally ruin the game. I've had those experiences way too much. I just wish i could beat the ******* out of them, i mean really though. People talking to me like that, i'd punch them in the face...They should have people working on Xbox Live, finding people like that and deleting their accounts after a warning. The feedback system just doesn't work, or at least i don't think it does. Later.

I wouldn't be caught dead saying it. Well, since the topic seems to be going so well, lets branch it out a bit. Another big annoyance in online games, as you all know, are whiners. Whiner- noun - (why-nher): 1. One who complains excessively. 2. Cocky and noobish. 3. Very annoying. Surprisingly, I haven't seen too many on Halo 2 yet, but they're there. Oh yes, they are there. They just can't grasp the concept that this is a shooting game - you're going to DIE sometimes. Another would be the team-jackasses. The ones who ***** to the rest of the team that they're not good enough or 'I'm the best, you guys suck' and so on. Sometimes you even get the jerks who shoot at their own team because they're unhappy. Examples: "Hey, that's MY banshee you [inert discriminating term]" "You moron, how could you miss?" "Hey, you almost hit me!" I happened upon one jerk who was shooting his own team in the middle of an assault game for no apparent reason. He came storming into the base with an SMG and procceeded to fire round after round at the defenders (me). When we commented on it being a team game, he simply called us losers and so on. Eventually he got ejected for team killing =)

(Just a thought)[/color']
All the time. I'm not afraid to use the feedback system to report them either. There's no excuse for hateful slurs being thrown around during a video game; it's not fair and it's unacceptable. I sign on to have a good time, I don't want to listen to a bunch of morons say hurtful things to people. Sometimes I turn everyone's voices off. But, more often than not I just mute the offending party. It's a nice solution to the problem.
Sol-Blade
Well abusive/rude talk during online matches is unfortunately...all too common now-a-days. I guarantee that if any of you play Unreal Tournament 2004, you'll run into many people with some really, really, crappy attitudes. As for me, being an Admin of my clan's servers, I have a Zero Tolerance policy towards racial slurs and personal attacks. Trash talk can slide, because if I were going to kick every single person who talked trash I would have an empty server. But yeah, no racial slurs or personal attacks or you get the kick, and a second offense is a BAN. Go play somewhere else. :D Alas, that's why I don't play many console games online due to the lack of control over your matches. In Halo II, you have minimal control over what people say(Mute or Ignore), and can't really vote someone off of a match at times. While as in UT, I can at least try to keep the game civilized. lol

NorykoAngelcry
Well. . I let my gaming do my talking for me. Usually, I end a game (no matter if it's assault, slayer or anything else) with a high kill count, an objective or two met, and about ten more medals then anyone else ^_^. Oh, I am only really talking about Halo 2. I don't play many FPS online, Halo 2 is really the first since my computer has become an antique and I can't run Doom on it anymore (well, it's almost that bad). Ok, so when I play games, most people tend to get me on their team, because I can usually kill the crap out of their team, and can make big plays when it's necessary. I try not to talk trash, because, simply I hate it when people do it to me. If someone kills me and starts the trash-talking - no matter how good they are - it gets me upset! Then, depending on the type of match we are playing, I have to get my revenge. Often times I do. I come back and kill that said person, and usually try to shut them up, saying something like, "Dude, it's a game, chill out!" or "Grow up man, you killed me once! Get over it." . . . now, I understand this probably has the opposite effect that I am working on, but I figure if I don't start cussing at them, and saying how horrible of a gamer that they are, maybe it will shut them up for a bit? Well. . in the world of Halo 2, I consider myself in the better half of all the gamers. That being said, I understand that half of the people talking trash can rip me new ones if they wanted, and often times do. So, at the end of a game, I try to check who was trash-talking me, and to see if I killed them more or less. Sometimes, I get my revenge and kill them more, sometimes it's just not the case. I tend not to feel so bad when I kill the guy more, but when the much better player just wastes our whole team, I tend to question why he has to open his mouth at all? Some people don't share the 'Let the score do the talking' philosophy that I have ^_^ Well. . now on to a quick touch to some of my friends -- I play with a few college guys who LOVE to talk 'smack' to people. . These guys just don't pull any punches when showing someone their discontent at other's gaming skills or their gaming attitude. It's funny, because I know these people, but at the same time, it's embarassing, because I hate being on the recieving end of it, so I tend to try and discourage the giving end. Oh well. . If someone really throws out a lot of language, or is just a poor sport or something and starts cussing endlessly at me or my team, I just report them. Sure, it's going to be a slow process of dealing with said gamer, but who knows. Maybe a warning from some of the 'bosses' may just calm them down, or they may even be booted from the game all-together. I would hate it to come to that, but if you can't play a fair game, don't play the game! It's really that simple! P.S. - If anyone wants to jump on sometime, drop me a friends request -- Either Noryko or Noryko Angelcry (I know, original, ya?). . Been trying to get back on more, since this holiday break really felt good not to have to get online at all! But, with no cable anymore (only like 10 channels right now), and all my movies being worn out (been watching all of them a LOT). . I have to revert back to Halo 2 for my nightly fun!
ziopheth
everyone tends to say something stupid everyonce in a while when playing . its just some peoples human nature to curse off the person who blew there head off , & then shov it in ther face when the kill tha dude once . so i try to just get along with people when i play . ( im actually the sniper who kills you out of no where & starts to giggle when you say ,"WHO THA *******!!!" ...& then people come find my hideing place n kill me ... but never fear , for i find EVERY hiding place posible!!! MWA HA!!! DIE!!! ) past the babling , i do get upset when i play & die a lot & other s taunt me to just kill them more , but i usually dont curse outside gaming ... i think . ani way , the worst thing to ever happen to me because of online cusing by other people , is my 10 year old brother now thinks its cool to cuse & totally takes it out on me ALL THE TIME , now. then i get in trouble for some reason . :flaming:  but alas!!! i now his girlfriend ...so i can take care of things if he get s TO cockey with ZIOPHETH !!! naw , not really , i wouldent stoop that low , so to be fare to such a little fella , can somoen halp me out here? itd be very apriciated... :D anywayZ , later!!! Baron Samedi
When I'm playing single player in BF:V there is nothing I enjoy more [when bored] than slitting my teammates throats. Or shooting them when they get into a vehicle I wanted. But thats bots. When I'm online people will shoot me over a chopper, lol. The thing is, if you do team-kill, then you die as well, and you get a 40 second re-spawn time. I've accidentally killed people sometimes, and they've been pretty cool. But then again, you get the people who say "Gimme the ******* helicopter, you're ****, I'm ace, wanker." But I tend to ignore what people are saying.
Charles
Hence: I guess I see that point at where it violates a game's EULA.
I understand what you mean. It's just that I consider what they're talking about completely different from trash talk. Verbal sparring ceases to be trash talk when exits the realm of referring to a player's skill and becomes something personal; it's just not competitve behavior anymore. By classifying this type of behavior in the same category as trash talk one gives these sort of people an excuse for their actions; they simply got carried away in the moment and their harmless intentions were betrayed by overzealously. However, I've been in a pre-game Halo 2 lobby where a female gamer repeatedly urged other players to give her oral sex (only with more vulgar language of course). It had absolutely nothing to do with the game or trash talking; she was just being an idiot. When logged into a game without using the microphone, someone mistook me for an Asian player because of my screen name I suppose (Captain Eggroll) and proceeded not only to call me all sorts of racist names, but to threaten me as well. Now, are these examples I've listed trash talking taken past a certain point or are we just dealing with nasty individuals with serious personality flaws? I'd say the answer is rather obvious. Their motive to harass others is both intentional and pre-motivated.
Chaos
Honestly, people are just too up-tight these days. I remember once in SOCOM at a friend's place I got blown completely the hell away, something really rare for me because I'm fairly good at the game. Some guy planted like three Claymores right down the path of this one jungle map, and for the life of me, I cannot remember the name, but oh, well. He pumped me full of red-hot pellets and shot my body once in the head for good measure, even though I was about twenty feet away from the original blast area. I said "Goddamnit, that blew so hard." and, admittedly, I was a bit mad. He just went completely over the top for just one guy, and as soon as I respawned, I caught a knife to the throat, compliments of the same guy. My retort was something similar as before, but this time he apparently got mad. He yelled at me for a few minutes, calling me this and that, saying how lame I was, and how much I sucked, and he didn't mean to make me cry, blah blah blah. So I calmly said, as I crawled in a prone position very slowly that I wasn't blaming him or anything, just making commentary. I didn't mean to offend him, it's just that I think it's necessary to say something every now and then. He responded slightly apologizing, offering to put the whole thing behind us. That's when I'm sure he heard the clink of the grenade and let loose a "DAMMIT!" as his character went flying. He mustered a mighty "******* YOU, A**HOLE!" before leaving and apparently running to tell his clan or cronies or whatever you want to call them... I just don't understand how people can get so bent out of shape over something as simple as an online game. Sure, he plucked your head off with a fifty cal sniper rifle, sure, he blew you to atoms with a rocket launcher, sure, he gunned you down in a Ghost. So what? Just respawn and get revenge, or die trying. I suppose this is pretty moot since 98% of all gamers are not going to follow that or similar advice and instead just start cursing AT the person that offed him or her. Sure, say something every once in a while, a little smack is good in a competitive game, but holy hell, don't start a world war over it.
