Generally, I think most of OB resides within the 11-15 age range. There are a few older people *cough[R]in/angercough* and our dear Panda, as well as a few older members [err, haha, members that have been here longer] that will reside in the 16-20 and 21-25 age brackets. But the majority of 'anime' is something taken on board by the 11-15 age group I feel, but more predominantly, this age bracket has more free time and less of the rigours of daily life. i.e. they have more time [and more of an inclination] to come to a place like OB.

[On a side note, I am not an anime fan]

I'm 12 and I used to be an Anime fan, but I stopped watching stuff like DBZ and all the good Anime they show over here. Not much comes on anymore, so I'm not a fan because I can't watch anything. I'm not really to botehred about being 12 (since I joined three monhs after becoming 11), I've talked to a few people who are a year older and like to talk to everyone on OB, nice bunch of people and all... age don't matter, thank God.

Interesting, most interesting.

Honestly I don't think there's a definite predominant age group to OB, mainly this has to do with the fact that we only have a couple of hundred recurring members at any one time. When the majority of people join they appear to have done so because of Anime, myself included although I've lost my interest in that genre. I'd agree with Josh [Baron] when he says that the anime fans are usually 11-15 when they join.

I myself have been around OB since V3 way back just over 3 years ago, and a lot of members from around then are within the 16-24 age bracket, which is what Josh pointed out. To answer the asked question I'll reach 18 in February and have plans to be here a few more years before I decide to leave.

Flame of Recca was first suggested to me by a thirty-five year old man with a pony-tail, who was at an illegitimate DVD store in P-Mall with his four year old son, who kept trying to walk out of the store carrying unpurchased porn.

That guy didn't even know Kenshin had a
brother in law
.

What a loser.
Well, I started this thread because... well, I was wondering how old anime lovers got, and just how old in people on the Otakuboards are. I'm just kinda curious. If you want, you can remain anyonamous.
From what I can tell, OB attracts a relatively young-ish crowd. There are anime forums where nearly all the members are in or have graduated from college, and anime forums that cover the whole gamut but tend to be much more top-heavy than OB. So I'd say this really isn't the place to look for a whole slew of older anime lovers. However, I'm sure you'll be able to find a few. ;)

I'm in the 11-15 age bracket. And yes, I'm an anime fan. But not an outgoing one, anyway. I watch whatever I can find on TV, but I rarely go out and by the DvD's. I do sometimes but nowadays I await them as gifts. (Why waste time buying something I'm not going to watch much? Santa won't mind me adding a few things to my list. ^_~ )

But really, I come here for the interaction with others when we discuss things other than anime. Actually, I avoid a lot of anime threads. >.>;; Yeah.. I'm not as big an anime fan as I used to be, you could say. But I still read lots of manga. ^__^

20 going on 21 right here.

I joined the boards in 2002 after browing TheOtaku's Dragonball collection. I stilll like a little bit of Anime, such as Evangelion, but I mostly come here to discuss the latest movies, music, or just have a general chit-chat in the Otaku Lounge.

Time spent online has greatly diminished over hte last year or so, I find it hard to think of new topics, and/or don't hold too strong an opinion on current ones.

I am 19 and a half. ^_^ Or, I'll be 20 in about five months or so. I came to the OB in 2001 (I think?) so I was probably around 16 at the time. I know that back in November I passed my three year mark here, so I HAD to be 16 when I joined. Yeah, I was sixteen...lol. I used to be so obsessed with anime, but now I rarely ever watch it. Being in college zaps your resources unbelievably. It's tragic because I miss it, but I'm content on a $10 manga every now and then.

I'm 13 and proud of it. I joined the OB when I was eleven years old, though, but I could've signed up sooner. I remember going to theOtaku.com when I was seven or eight and wondering just what the "OtakuBoards" was. XD So I finally clicked the link and was amazed at what I found. T_T;;
I'm impressed at just how many younger people are here. I'm used to seeing people fifteen and up flaunt around...but then again, those figures only show people who've seen this thread...*sweatdrop*
And yes, I'm an anime fan. Why else would I be here? ^_~

Holy crap!

I think that I was the first to have voted between the ages of "21-25"

^^;; Ugh. I feel like a senior citizen, or something.

24.

...*wonders if she'll still be around in the next 5 years*

Yeah, that'll be kind of...sad.

^^;;

But hey...I may be old, but dammit, I love my stuff *^_^*

Well, I'm not suprised that the majority were 11-15.

Frankly, I also find my love for anime... waning. I origonally joined Otaku when somone on another forum posted a quiz "What sonic charecter are you?" Which contained a link to the Otaku quiz of the same name. I was bored, so I decided to explore a bit. I played all the quizs, then browesed a bit of anime whatnot... Finally I just clicked on OtakuBoards, since it seemed like a forum or somthing, and joined. Well, I am mad grateful to the guy who posted the link, otherwise I woulda been... ya know, bored. No one likes being bored. Excpet the amish.

I voted in the highest so far....26-30. I am a fan of anime, but generally, on the OB, I tend to stay away from anime topics. It's not that I don't want to talk about anime, it's just .....I don't really want to talk about it ^^ It's not a discussion the interests me. On the OB, I generaly hang around the RPG arena.

While I am an anime fan, I really don't come here for the anime itself, in fact you'll never find me in the anime section. Well, ok, you might find me in there once a month or so.

Anyways, back to the main question. I'm 16. I'll be 17 in March, but I have noticed that as you get older it tends to be harder and harder to keep up with this place. It's kind've odd to think all the people I like "looked up" to when I first started are in their late teens to 20's now, when back then they were around 15-16.

Otakuboards draws a younger crowd, simply because, (in my opinion) the admin/moderators have worked so hard in making this a family friendly place, and while this doesn't make older people stop coming, a lot of younger people can get in it more easily because parents won't mind it as much, and not many people can get offended by it.

(Unless you read one of the political or homosexual debates; seeing as we have a new one every week or so.)

Anyways I think it's pretty cool to see the variety of age we have, the suprising thing is that most of our 11-15 year olds are more mature than most people I know that are my age; or atleast the present themselves that way on the internet.

shrugs

Who knows, I've been here long enough to move from one category to the next. Hehe, thats pretty sad if you ask me.

Ha! Now I'm officially cool because I'm just posting here like everyone else is XD

*cough* so, I only turned 17 about two months ago and just from being on these boards I am definitely sure that age does not equal maturity. I seriously can almost never tell how old someone is on these boards by the way they type. It's a lovely place. I suppose I would've joined a few years earlier but I was still rather 'green' at the time and found this place intimidating.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of anime, I like it and watch it occassionally but not so much that you could hold an intelligent discussion with me about it. Aside from pokemon but that's.. completely beside the point.

Oh Baron, you made a funny. lol. (btw, I just figured out where you got your name from, I'm so slow!)

Well, I'm 15, turning 16 on February 15, I can't wait!

I can't usually tell how old someone is by the way they are. Though I have some ideas when I look at people's profiles and their D.O.B.

I'm a very large anime fan, but my family thinks that I should stop because 'cartoons' are for 'little kids'. Which I have two arguments against. It's Anime! Not cartoons as they say. And many older people watch anime, so it's not only for little kids.

Ok, going a little off topic. Anyway, I don't feel like one of the youngest. Because there's lots of others that are 14 and below, so I don't really feel so bad.

I've been here since 2001, back when I was 13. Though I think I was on the older version of OB a couple of years before that.

I'm 16 now and I haven't posted here for around a year. I think I am in the same boat as Mr Lalaith Ril, losing interest I guess.

Well, I am 16 and a quarter years old. I have been a member from August last year and I have a half-alright amount of posts though I find iit is quite insulting that someone that has just passed hal a century of posts is a member now when I had to post nearly 100 replies to be a member. I actually new about theotaku.com when I was in grade six ( Different system in Queensland in the 90's) That means I have known about theotaku.com since 2001.

I am quite an aime fan ( Own 13 full seasons of Cowboy Bebop, Bubblegum Crisis(Both types), Dirty Pair Flash, and more) I am also one of the first people in my ENTIRE SCHOOL that has seens more than half of the Studio Ghibli films. ( I'll tell you this, I own one of the best collections in Werribee).

I came to here because I was in search for a good forum site. I have been banned from MSN which leaves me only a few things left to chat on RPG Dreamers.com and here.
