Gah! I feel so old.

Turned 18 last August (about the same time I joined OB). Can't remember what exactly drew me into OB. It's probably something anime-related; am very much an anime fan.

(My, my. Maybe I should stop guessing your ages based on your posts.)
I'm a very large anime fan, but my family thinks that I should stop because 'cartoons' are for 'little kids'.
You should make them watch Saiyuki or some anime packed with adult-ish themes. Yes... I bet they'd want 'little kids' to watch those.

I am 23. . I am happy to know that I am still one of the older members here. I don't post quite as often as I used to (I was never one for just posting a sentence long reply. . I have to put some substance in my posts). I still visit regularly, and try to visit the Lounge, Movies and TV, as well as some of the Gaming pages, but I just don't really post too much right now -_- Too much work, and trying to get used to a new area (moved out to Knoxville, TN to help my brother with rent while he goes to college)
I voted in the highest so far....26-30. I am[/b'] a fan of anime, but generally, on the OB, I tend to stay away from anime topics. It's not that I don't want to talk about anime, it's just .....I don't really want to talk about it ^^ It's not a discussion the interests me. On the OB, I generaly hang around the RPG arena.
I am also a large anime fan, and find myself rarely visiting the anime forums. It's wierd, but I just don't ever go there. Perhaps if I have a question, or am curious about a certain title that I see on the main page, I may swing that way, but pretty much, I'm content watching it, and not really worrying about talking about it. . Just wanted to comment on it, no real point to this part of the thread.

I'm 19 years old. I don't think that I've ever been that big of a fan of anime, at least I don't like it any more than I like most entertainment mediums (I actually prefer American cartoons, because they're more my style). I very rarely go into the anime forums, mostly because I would really not have that much to contribute to them. Play It remains my forum of choice, because I'm a huge gamer, and it's a forum where I actually know my stuff quite well :P

It's been very interesting reading this thread...I had no idea that Monkey Orange was so.... mature >_>

I'm 14 (power to the One Four!) and I turn 15 in a couple of weeks. I've been on the boards since April this year and I can distinctly remember why I joined.
*clears throat*

I found out about theOtaku when I was searching for fan art, back then I didn't have a scanner so I didn't see much point in joining but I always remembered the site. So when we got a scanner I decided to join up with the site so I could get my pics onto the internet. One day I was bored and I was checking out my Backroom when I saw the 'Connect Otakuboards account' option. Of course, I had to do everything that was available to me so I came to the Otakuboards for the sole purpose of attaching myOtaku account. Very strange. I actually didn't post for about a month and it was sheer boredom that got me looking around.

Most people know that I stick to the Arena, even though anime is what got me here in the first place I never even look at the Anime Lounge these days.

Funny thing to mention this thread, I remember that some people have thought I was a lot older than fourteen, they've always been surprised when I tell them ^^;
I'm 14.[/SIZE']
Whoa, talk about your disappointment! When I saw this:

I came in here, convinced you'd say at least 900. :(

I joined the boards in 2001, a few days after my fifteenth birthday. Which would make me....*does some quick mental math*...almost nineteen.

I was a freshman in high school. Now I'm a freshman in college. Can you say LAMER? Heh.

only as old as you feel,

Eee! Methuselah, I've been here since May this year, lol. I thought you've been here quite a long time before I did.

Anyway, I'm...well I'm...20.Turning 21 in a few weeks. Anime, of course, got me here. Then the Arena became too interesting for me so I jumped right in and signed up.

Anyway, I think anime is for everyone. I know some people in their thirties who still like anime. That in mind, I think OB is for everyone too. I think people will still be here even if they get old/older. Maybe not because of the anime, but the cool discussions and the friends they found.

I'm 19. I origionally joined for the Adventure square and the now defunct battle boards. I wasn't much of an anime fan at the time, but I've actually found that I've become more of an anime fan since going to college, which I guess makes me a bit of an anomoly around here. I know a lot of other people in college who are big anime/manga fans, and it starts to rub off on you after awhile. The theatre department recently had a big Cowboy Bebop party. Have you ever noticed that Anime tends to get funnier with each additional person you have watching it? Try plugging in Love Hina with 6 other guys in the room sometime, and you'll be surprised how much more hilarious it suddenly becomes...

As far as not having time for message boards, I think I have more time for them at college, since we've got a faster internet connection down there and I have a computer in my room. I find message boards to be a great stress reliever. I get to write stuff but not worry about making it marketable. Viva message boards!

The following is entirely a personal theory, take it for what it's worth. I think the reason why there are more anime fans in the 11-15 age group and to a lesser extent the 15-20 age group is that we are the first generation in America to experience the mainstreaming of anime. Back in the day, there wasn't much anime you could see on network TV. But in the past decade, we've had Pokemon, digimon (which I admit I get a kick out of... digimon is a fun show), DBZ and yu-gi-oh become immensely popular. Kids watch those, and get acclimated to the anime style of storytelling. When they are ready to 'graduate' to more mature anime, there is good stuff readily available on Cartoon Network, and more at their local Suncoast or Best Buy. Back in the day, you had to find a specialty store to get most anime. Nowadays, it's a bit easier, and there is a lot of anime targeted at kids. Hence, a generally younger demographic.

I'm turning fourteen in May. I joined when I was 11-ish, lied my age and said I was 13 then. Don't really care, though. There's plenty of 20+ year-olds who still tYp3 leIk dIz bEcUz dEy tiNk i7 b dA sHiez wOt INNIT AHAHAH' etc. >.>

Okay, so maybe not to that extent but erm. Right.

Eh, but yeah. I've been around for three years officially in May, though I wasn't allowed on OB during the last year due to family issues (-_-). I'm back, though, but I'm not quite sure how long I'll stick around...

Well I guess that there isn't too bad of a majority of the wee little ones. You know you're young when you include 1/2 in your age thats for sure. I used to post here a lot more but now pretty much relegate myself to the videogames forum. I'm 24 and well I guess I mostly use Myotaku rather than visit the boards because I've found a good niche group of people who post here. I only have like 6 people on my frind list but they are all good posters/people.
It's the name. Everyone thinks Methuselah is old because of her name.

But I have to agree with Lore. 900 or over was the least of my expectations ;)
On a more serious note, I was a bit surprised to find out her age. Methuselah writes in quite an intelligent and mature way for one so young.

I must give a thanks to Metatron for what everyone thinks my age is. Since he has guessed the highest; 30.

I'm actually 13.

Hehe, I thought you were older (since you used to Mod on AHQ, too).

I actually surprised that there aren't more people in the older age sections (like, 16+ and 20+), I tend to ask a lot of my friends if they know what Anime is and they say no, including some I know online. Mostly I ask older people and they know... though I think these days people come here to RP.

Not too surprising to me. This board attracts such people at quite a steady pace- Juu is an example, she has been posting at a pretty high quality for a few eons now.

I'm 16 years old. I was 13 when I signed up in Oct. of 2001, heh. I was drawn here by what was then the humble beginnings of a DBZ fervor that would wash across America and destroy many people's faith in humanity.

I am 19. I joined August 26th of 2003. How did I discover the OB? I actually found the fan art section of theotaku.com first. I was searching for pictures for a project. It was a lucky click of the mouse, you could say. I looked around, found the OB, fell in love, and I've been here ever since.

I'm not much of an anime fan. Granted that I have watched it and liked some, but I lost interest in anime after I learned about manga and the [back then] Adventure Arena ^_^

I'm 15 but practicaly 16. I'm a huge anime fan but not of the "domesticated" crap that most people call anime. I buy and watch only japanese dvds. i know a little japanese but i mostly watch w/subtitles. it helps me learn more japanese. When they "translate" then they switch words and half the time screw up the whole series. any way I'm getting off subject. I fond OB a few months ag but did'nt join until last month, it realy cool, and every one is realy nice.yay i'm gonna be 16 in 4 months!!!

Off topic: Those are bootlegs, dear. The vast majority of genuine R2 DVDs lack English subtitles and are also far too expensive for any teenager to bother importing.

On topic: I'm pleasantly surprised to see that 16-20 is the dominant demographic (albeit by a very slim margin). It's nice to know that OB doesn't skew as young as I had originally thought--not that I have anything against the 15 and under age group, of course. :p

Well that was very interesting to look at the poll results. I am one of the oldie moldies of the site. I am 28 and will be 29 in January. Only a couple of more weeks and I am one step closer to 30! :wigout:

I have been an anime fan for many years. I don't think anime has an age limit on fandom. Go to any anime convention and you will see many older anime fans at the cons. We do all need to keep in mind that this survey only shows us the ages of those anime fans who are 1) willing to share their age online. 2) frequent this message board. 3) "reply to how old are you threads."

In my age group there has been only one other person who replied but I do know of more out there who fall into this bracket.

Come out, come out where ever you are!

I think this thread is very interesting.

I'm in the 21-25 range...I'm 23 and will be 24 in July on the 24th heh. I'm one of the older (albeit not around the oldest obers I think and I started on here last year...oh look I rhymed.

Of course, I not only watch anime, I watch 80's cartoons and some other American cartoons. I guess I'm just a kid at heart. I even bought a my scene Barbie last week. Hey it was Nolee with the Sephora stuff!

[Edit-On a side note, I'm going to mail Panda a walker and a motorized scooter for Christmas.
