Dragon Warrior
Some good news, folks. I haven't heard much on it, but this new Batman film is coming out very soon. In Batman Begins (I think the title could've been better), it's the origin of how Bruce Wayne became the legendary hero and why. Some of you may already know from the comic books or other resources, but for those of you who don't, this'll be a treat! And let me tell you now, he doesn't get bit on the hand by a bat. From the looks of the sexy trailer at the site (CLICKAGE), the movie has sort of a sword-fighting, medieval whoop-butt feel to it. Wee! Can't wait for more info.
Retribution
I already know how Batman got started. All the movies never did this guy ANY justice. His story is really a good one. Basically, the reason why he's such a kickass fighter is because he
got trained by the best in the world, learned every method of combat there is to know and mastered it.
. I sure hope you know already that
his parents got killed by some thugs. He was bordering on psyco/insane, and the only think keeping him off the streets was his inheritance. He channeled all his pent up anger, torment, and hate for crime to stand against it.
It's about friggin time they showed what he actually went through, not some happily-ever-after flick. Another thing great about the new movie is that they finally didn't add nipels to the suit  ...
Dragon Warrior
The Batmobile does look a little... er... crushed, aye? But it has those massive wheels. Possibly it's not the Batmobile and is just one of his many vehicles. In Batman and Robin, he had loads of cars and other vehicles in his garage. Since this is about his origin, the car we believe is the batmobile may just be what he started with, then advanced to the batmobile.
Annie
Oh my, this looks good. I knew how he got started, sort of, and I've always wanted to see it on screen. I don't know too much on Batman and other DC comics (or any comic for that matter), but it does interest me. I have a friend who's obsessed with DC comics, especially Batman and Nightwing. So, slowly, he's teaching me the ways of Batman. He's even going to make a fanfic movie on Batman, Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl. He's already got the script written and everything. He's got people to play the characters (Batman, Robin, etc), even the villans. I've even got a part in this thing. Guess who I'm going to be.. It's just a matter of waiting for the technical stuff to fall together. Anywhoo, as far as Batman Begins goes; I'm very, very excited to see it. And I hope it will live up to the whole legacy of the bat. Though, it did look like alot of sword-clinging..but maybe that will help lure in all audiences, rather than only the fans. Is that Christian Bale??
Xander Harris
Yes, I have a feeling this movie could be the best Batman since the origional film. As to why a new origin film is the best way to go, the following is the best explanation for why DC characters seem to work best in their origin stories, whereas Marvel heroes do not that I have seen: Full link: http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=tbt&article=2014 Excerpt: CASEY: I think your thoughts on the late 30's superheroes being created mainly as a reaction is right on the money. Superman. Batman. Wonder Woman. The "icons" of the DC that have endured pretty much intact since Day One were all borne of some sort of chemical and/or emotional reaction to the world of that time. Personally, I don't think any character at Marvel or DC has achieved the mythology or the iconic power of those three superheroes. For most people, those three are DC. This, of course, brings me to my theory... and I've only come to this conclusion from whatever experience I've had actually writing these *************. Spending three and a half years of my life writing Superman stories month-in, month-out was a hell of an experience. Thrilling, but frustrating at the same time. It was only after I'd completed my run that this revelation hit me... something that I'd probably been subconsciously struggling with during my entire tenure on the character. Conversely, as I've taken a step back into the Marvel Universe to write some of their superheroes again, this little theory of mine has gained momentum. DC has icons. Marvel has characters. And there's a huge difference. You can tell pretty much any story you want with a character. An icon basically has one story... their origin story. An icon allows for a myth. The best myths have beginnings, middles and endings. The only story that Superman really works in is his origin story: Alien baby sent to Earth. Raised by pure-hearted farmers. Discovers his true heritage. Moves to the big city. Becomes Superman (in other words, embraces his true heritage and puts that knowledge into action). As far as I'm concerned, once he puts on the cape and the tights, we've got our happy ending and the story is over. The myth is complete. Sure, you could throw in a few battles with his greatest enemies, but that stuff is just icing on the cake. And, as we all know, too much icing can make a person puke. I mean, just ask yourself this... why does SMALLVILLE work as a series while LOIS & CLARK -- kinda' pathetic to begin with -- limped along to cancellation? Meanwhile, look at the Marvel characters. Their origins are only the beginning of their adventures, which can seemingly last forever, if properly watchdogged. Look at the SPIDER-MAN and X-MEN movie sequels... both of them were way better than their predecessors (which, for the most part, were origin stories). Meanwhile, every subsequent SUPERMAN movie sequel got worse and worse. Even the BATMAN franchise... they've gone back to tell the only story that's worth telling at this point: his origin. On the other hand, Marvel's most popular character of the past 30 years -- Wolverine -- works best when you don't know his origin.
Guest ScirosDarkblade
I've been keeping tabs on this film, picking up every juicy tidbit I could get my hands on. So far, from what I know, this will be the best Batman movie ever as far as live-action films are concerned. Whether it'll top Mask of the Phantasm or World's Finest (the animated films) is another concern. Really there's two things I'm not happy with. One is they got the casting for Ra's Al Ghul and ninja-mentor-dude (Ducard) totally backwards. Watanabe = ninja-mentor-dude. Ra's = Neeson. Seriously, what the heck. The other thing is that Goyer, as big a Batman fan and "purist" that he is, wrote Blade, Blade 2, and Blade Trinity. Three strikes, you're out as far as I'm concerned. He says 75% of his script survived for Batman. Hopefully Nolan got rid of most of the crap, I guess. The "tumbler" is this movie's Batmobile. Whether they will refer to it as the Batmobile in addition to "tumbler" is anyone's guess at this point, but people on the set do call it the Batmobile. Oh, and Joe Casey is a moron. A talentless moron.
DeathBug
Maybe we can have Batman movies now that don't make my soul die a little when I watch them? Half of the franchise, sadly, is garbage, which is a real shame. Will this be the movie that reignites the magic? Here's hoping. And although everyone's raving about Ra, i'm much more interested in Scarecrow. He's cool.
satan665
Yeah one thing that I'm really glad about the last two Batman movies is that they didn't touch the scarecrow. I have such a great image of him from the animated series that I'm glad they didn't put forth a garbage version of him like they did for the Riddler, 2-face, Mr. Freeze, Bane and Poison Ivy. I can't beleive how moronic they were with those last two, they were like "well this movie will be much better if we just add 3 villians instead of 1 or 2." I have high hopes for this new movie, but in the back of my mind I just know it is going to suck. I really hope that I am wrong.
Gavin
Interesting, most interesting. I've been curious about this film since I first heard about it in another OB thread from a few months back. I've always enjoyed the Batman franchise, although the movies left a whole lot to be desired [I only recently learned that Star Wars' Mark Hamill does the voice of the Joker] but the Animated Series has seemed to capture the Batman essence. Now perhaps I'm wrong about that as I have never had the oppertunity to read any of the Batman comics, they're just not available around where I live. However in saying that if this movie does manage to capture the real Batman soul then it should be very enjoyable to watch.
JCBaggee
I found this script a few months ago. >_> Its beautiful. The first half of the script is pure psychological with no in costume work. This isn't the Tim Buron rehashed marketing machine we've been dealing with. This is the real deal, straight from the comics and very close to the classic "Year One" story, focusing more on the man that is driven to spend every night forgoing sleep to leap from rooftop to rooftop punching people for a cause that consumes him wholly. (It also runs into a nice opening for a sequel or two, which the WB is apparently pushing for ^_^) The trailers look great, I do wish they'd have a bit more action in them though. I understand they want to emphasize the fact that this is a restart for the series, and I love the psychological aspect of the film, but I want to see Batman hit things. Its just plain natural. The fanboys/girls are already talking, putting the film down, but trust me. We're in for quite a treat this summer. --Chris
