Christmas-y Animes?

I've noticed a lack of any Xmas-related anime. Is there a reason, or have I just been looking in the wrong place?

Anyway, 'tis the season. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any GOOD anime Xmas shows or Xmas specials. If not that, GOOD animes that are suitable for watching during the upcoming holiday.

I emphasize good because the only Xmas anime I ever saw was this thing called "Wind ~ A Breath of Heart OVA," and... well, it's best to keep those memories suppressed.

i dunno about a series/movie with a christmas theme, but many series' will do christmas episodes or specials. to name a few: Love Hina did a special, Mahoromatic had a christmas episode, so did Azumanga Daioh and Ai Yori Aoshi. I dont think most of the more serious or action oriented series' will do christmas themed shows though.

If you're looking for a good christmas anime to get into a christmasy mood, i would suggest the Love Hina special, i havent watched it in a while but i remember it being really good, in fact i think i'll go watch it myself now.

Watching the Wind television series was among the worst anime-related decisions I've ever made. Amusingly, I've always heard that the OVA is better and wondered whether I ought to watch it... but I digress.

Tokyo Godfathers is about as Christmas-y as an anime can get. Since it's a stand-alone movie, it's pretty easy to buy or rent, and you don't need any prior knowledge to watch it. More importantly, it's visually and emotionally satisfying (assuming you can buy into the startling coincidences which drive the plot). This film celebrates family and friendship without getting ridiculously sappy, and it really is all about Christmas and the Christmas season.

The first season of Big O contains a Christmas-themed episode, but due to the nature of the show, the fact that it's about Christmas is something the viewer has to infer through visual clues. Maison Ikkoku has quite a few Christmas episodes (although they focus more on the romantic and gift-giving side of things).

While I haven't yet gotten to Cardcaptor Sakura's Christmas episodes--I'm fairly sure that it has at least two--I can testify that the show itself is wonderfully heartwarming, assuming you don't hate cutesy magical girl-type stuff. On a similar note, I also enjoyed the Christmas-y parts of Full Moon wo Sagashite. The show as a whole does have quite a few episodes which directly or indirectly focus on winter and snow.

Fruits Basket is a great series for the holidays, I think. Few anime are better at giving you that warm-and-fuzzy feeling. Personally, I find that Studio Ghibli's gentler movies (i.e. Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service) are also very well suited to this time of year.

Guest ZeroAnime
Gundam Wing Endless Waltz takes place over Christmas Eve to December 26. And they mention alot of christmas stuff even playig Christmas music. Also GUndam 0080 war in the pocket goes into christmas time towards the end of the series, when they say" If the Gundam is not destroyed by Christmas day then the colony will be nuked."

I think it would be nice to have at least one Christmas anime around. I suppose they don't do it because it might be politically incorrect or offend some religions. But I don't see the point.

A good Christmas anime would be like a good Christmas movie. You'd watch it over and over again at Christmas until you're sick of it. But, how would you do a Christmas anime? Like what themes, etc? Another reason that it might be too limited for ideas. Ah well. Maybe you should make one AzureWolf.

Even though its past Christmas, I suggest for next year to get the Love Hina Christmas movie. It has comedy and romance along with the whole idea of what to get for that certain someone during the holiday. I thought it was a pretty good Christmas anime, plus out of the whole Love Hina series and movies this was the best out of all of them I thought.

While I appreciate the recommendations, I think Dagger's first choice was the best of bunch. While I haven't seen Tokyo Godfathers, Dagger touched upon a key point that I failed to emphasize: an independent series/show. With Love Hina, I'm fairly sure a lot of the... "value" would be lost to someone not familiar with the series. So, really, Xmas specials aren't what I am looking for.

Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is hardly an Xmas anime. It SO has nothing to do with Xmas. I admit it was a little cool, but besides the snow and the date it supposedly takes place, there's nothing Xmas-y about it.

Dagger, yes, Fruit Baskets and beyond were also what I was looking for: shows suitable for the Xmas season. They don't have to be directly related to it, but have to be something people would be in the mood for. Thank you.

amgoddess, while there's a 0% probability that I would ever make an anime, you bring up a good point: are the Japanese a little too wary or indifferent to Xmas to make anything pertaining to it? I personally have no clue, but I think it's an interesting point.
