Well I believe that the greatest guitarist is Steve Vai. That man is insane! I read that he practices, I think, 10 hours a day...10 HOURS!

I think the best musical artist of all time is Billie joe Armstrong from Green Day. He not only can play guitar vary well but he also has an amazing voice. He can change is voice so well to fit with the song he's playing, He also adds an accent to some songs just to make um sound better. He also writes 99% Of Green Day's music by himself. He's been writing songs since he was 12 and now he's about 30, He knows what he's doing. He also has that kinda charisma when he performs, Not to mention he's got that disturbed boy next door thing goin. And just in general He's drop dead gorgeous(too bad he's straight)And his clothing is genious. Black slimleg workpants, black polo shirt, black Converse low tops, a pyramid stud belt, and a red tie. Briliant completely brilliant. I love Billy Joe, of course I think my sig states that well enough.

[FONT=Franklin Gothic Medium]Best? Hmmm... Jimi Hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaughn by far (to me). Them both because SRV's sound is mainly influenced by Hendrix. Hendrix, however he may have written his songs (drugs, etc.), is the greatest. There's no arguement for that.

There are a couple others that I also find great. Pink Floyd being the dominant one that comes to mind.

If you want to talk about a person/band that's still alive/exists, then I'd have to say...hmmm.... dunno. There's a few that I can see as great. One example being Joey Jordison (Slipknot; Drummer).[/FONT]

I'm going with Stevie Wonder. He was practically [i]born[/i] with a harmonica in his hand. He was a star by the time he was a teenager. Nearly every R&B/Neo-Soul singer and musician today tries to mimic his style. Every song he's ever released was a hit. Entire concerts have been dedicated to him. Hell, the man had some of the best fashion sense throughout the 70s and 80s. And you know what? He blind!

I know, I know. I could say most of the same stuff about Ray Charles. But believe you me, he ranks right [i]up there[/i].

[color=darkorchid]Jade Puget of AFI is pretty damn good on guitar. He writes all of his stuff and performs well live as well, so I hear. Anything past All Hallows by AFI features Jade, and he gets better with every album. He's amazing, anything from a ripping solo to a beautiful picked arpeggio of notes. Go Jade![/color]

Well... best guitarist was Jimmi Hendrix, hands down, and alot of his songs were great (Better with acid) but I'm not really into guitar so much.

My favourite musician of all time has to be Niel Pert, the drummer for Rush(My fav band) who is one of the best drummers of all time, and really combines well with Geddy Lee and Alex, and, frankly, makes Rush one of the greatest bands of all time. I'm not sure who writes most of there songs, but they are some of the deepest songs I've ever heard, and they really sound great. The Trees is an extremly metephorical song, that sounds great, and has a strang, yet deep, message that really makes you think. It's really hard for me to classify Rush, since they rock like a rockband, but their songs sound like... welll, they sound like nothing I've ever herrd before. Well, I can't really describe it anymore... For all ye P2P people out there, download it and check it out!

I also like Sam Roberts, because he has some really great songs. Brother Down, The Hard Road, and We Were Born In A Flame are some of my favourite songs of all time. Plus he's from around where I'm from, gotta support the locals, eh?

No band has ever influenced music like they have. Someone said Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day was the best musician. You know what his favorite album is (and I quote him from [i] Rolling Stone[/i] magazine)? [i] Revolver[/i], by the Beatles.

Besides Bob Dylan, the four men from Liverpool have to be the best songwriters. Ever. Period.

Now, lets delve into what "first things" they started. Hmmm, Jimi Hendrix, he did backwards guitar first? BZZZZZZZT. WRONG. Credit George Harrison for that. Almost backwards ANYTHING was the Beatles. They were the first to stop touring BUT STILL mde millions off of selling records. Oh, yeah, every single album they released went to no. 1 in both the UK and the US.

Do you know of a band that made 4 FEATURE LENGTH MOVIES (3 of which were in theatres)? Huh, can't really think of anyone.

Do you know of a band where 200,000+ poeple packed into a tiny street outside a hotel JUST TO SEE THEM COME OUTSIDE AND WAVE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES.
Ok, maybe Michael Jackson (when he wasn't dangling babies off of 5-story balconies), but I don't know of many other people.

After the biggest band ever broke up, they STILL had succsessful solo careers. George Harrison had the best one ([i]All Things Must Pass stayed at no. 1 for a while, and is my favorite record of all time[/i]), with John Lennon at 2nd, Paul McCartney at 3rd, and Ringo Starr scoring a few big hits too.

Well, it's cool that you have an opinion and are sticking to it, but personally, to me, as much as I love Linkin ark, Jimi Hendrix is the best. Ever.

[SIZE=1]Jimi Hendrix is pretty good. You've got to respect a guy who learned to play the guitar upside down and could still OWN pretty much everyone solo wise. He was also a great blues artist.

I'd also say that when I see Justin King, I see one of the most skilled technical guitarists ever. Go to justinking.com and check out some of his videos. He is amazing. You give him any piece of music and he could play it without even trying, he's that good.

And Billy from Green Day, I don't really think he's that good. There's one thing to be said about being a great performer, and another about being a great musician. Personally (and this is purely my point of view) but a great musician is one who is greatly skilled with their instrument (or instruments for the best of the best) and can play anything you throw at them. They know everything there is to know about their instrument of choice and can make it sound great whatever the occasion. Justin King is a great musician. Esteban is a great musician. Billy Joe? Plays a lot of power chords in a new style punk band. I'm not doubting his ability to perform and sell records (God knows his band has done it more than once) but a great guitarist? Not to me. I like the Rolling Stones & Iorn Maiden. I like Paint it Black,Gimme Sheiter,You can't always get what you wan't & Street Fighting Man. By Iorn Maiden I like run to the Hills,Clansman, Blood Bothers & The Wicker Man. The Rolling Stones have been aroud for A little over 30 years. Normaly bands last 10 to 20 years. But some like the rolling stones have been around longer than others. Iorn Maiden Lasted about 10 to 20 years.

Ugh, I'm so jealous of Neal Peart. When I saw Rush in 2002, it made me so angry that the entire drumset goes around him. And he's a double-bass pedal great But, do you honestly need that many drums?!

And Sword Breaker, Neal writes most of Rush's songs.

I love Geddy Lee's bass. But...

[U][B]THE OX! THUNDERFINGERS! JOHN ENTWISTLE OF THE WHO![/B][/U] Oh my sweet, sweet lord, John Entwistle is the bass player's god. He has some of the most complex lines in bassplaying ever. The man's fingers move so fast. For anybody who owns the special edition of the Who's movie, "The Kids Are Alright", pop in the second disc and click on John's indivdual bass feeds of "Baba O'Reily" and "Won't Get Fooled Again". You'll see what I mean.

John Bonham re-invented rock drumming. I'm a big Zeppelin fan. Jimmy Page, although not a huge pioneering force, is an amazing guitarist.
Right now, some of my personal favourites would be
Vocalist - Maynard James Keenan, from Tool and A Perfect Circle. The guy is an absolute genuis and he could sing almost anything.
Drummer - Danny Carey from tool. I shouldn't have to say anything at all.
Allrounder - Jack White from the White Stripes. I've been going through a huge Stripes phase for the past few years. I know he's not the greatest guitarist, or singer, but I love everything he's done.

I think that Jimmy Page was probably top 3 best guitarists ever. I also thing that Robert Plante was a songwriting genius. Although they may not always be clear to you when you hear them in a song, if you go back later and look at them, the lyrics always make sense. They are often really deep and have a very complexmeaning. The ability to do that and make it all sound good in a song is a gift.

Kurt Cobain. He's music was like no other, the best, ever. Every bit of music Nirvana played, I love. I'll be listening to their music till the day I die. Kurt Cobain lived by music, and you can't half tell. He's music was and is awesome. And always will be.

Classical: I have always been a George Fredric Handel fan. Growing up playing symphonic music, I always loved playing the Water Music Suites, I still find them incredibly expressive. His hornpipes and fugues are elegantly pure Baroque, a true reflection of the times, and he truly was a master of the keyboard. On top of all that his Messiah is a gorgeous piece of music.

Jazz: The Birth of Cool is an incredible album, perhaps the best jazz album ever recorded. That is why I would have to say Miles Davis is not only the greatest jazz musician, but also maybe the most influential. The great thing about Miles Davis is that he not only could flat out jam, but he could write simple melodies that were like pieces of a jig saw puzzle. Alone they were nice, but when they were intertwined in his odd whimsical way they just popped and allowed for so much improvisation.

Blues/Rock: Muddy Waters is by far the most influential musician in rock history. Lennon and McCartney had a passion for Muddy Waters and Elvis. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards named their band after one of his earlier songs, actually Jagger and Richards formed their initial friendship out of mutual love for Muddy Waters. It is easy to understand their infatuation. Muddy Waters' bottleneck guitar style is the basis for every rock/pop guitar riff you hear today.

Thats true, he was a great write of music. He has all these hidden meanings and some great ryhmes and whatnot. He was also a killer guitar player. Sickeningly good.
