I was watching Filter on G4TechTV, and this was the top ten list they did. They say that graphics are one of the main things that attract people to games, and that's what gets some people into them. I want to know what you think.

What would be your top ten games with the best graphics? Please explain why you placed a game where you placed and why you think it should be that number.

I will post my top ten later.

Well, graphics are important to an extent. They sure as hell don't make up the core of the game. It's nice to see technology being constant improved and updated, but when there isn't really alot of gameplay to back it up, it's kinda pointless.

My top ten, would have to be:

10.Medal Of Honor: Pacific Assault
-My god, have you seen the facial expressions on these guys? They look so real, and their mouths actually include teeth you can see and count even. The flora looks great and the guns are modeled to the dime.

9.Halo II
-Well, now I'm kinda iffy on this one. The game looks pretty good for a FPS, and obviously sports some new bump-mapping effects. But for sure, the whole Dynamic Mesh LOD that happens during cutscenes keeps this from being any higher. If you've played the game, you know what I mean.

8.Metal Gear Solid 3
-The game makes it characters seem more life-like by having almost everything on their body that can move...well move. Hair flows smoothly, chains dangle and clank, coats and jackets sway. Plus, MGS3 keeps the smooth frames through out the entire game. Only clog up I saw was during the fight with The Fury, which with all the action going on...was understandable.

7.Homeworld 2
-This game came out last year and it still looks phenomenal. Watching the tracer fire of your fighters, or the trails of their jet engines is just so visually satisfing. The Ion Beams of the captial ships look even better than ever, they glow so vividly. The game also uses some of the best bump-mapping ever. Especially when ships explode, then my god your eyes will really have a feast. The ships all show explosions through their hulls, and then when the big burst comes the bright flash of light captivates you. Finally, all that is left is a burning hulk, which spins and gives off debris.

6.Killzone
-It was the best looking game on PS2 in my opinion. The whole urban war theme that took up much of the game was done really well. All the cities on Vekta looked bombed out and appropiately trashed. And the Helghast just looked freaky, kinda like the Panzer Cops from Jin-Roh.

5.Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
-Okay, so the graphics are not the best ever, but the game really uses some neat effects. For one, the Time Powers of the amulet look much better than the orginal, and the dust and sand in the game really looks better than I thought it would be. And all the cool little animations the Prince did are back, and they are funnier than before.

4.Rome:Total War
-Oh words cannot describe the technological achievement of this game. Having thousands and thousands and thousands of soldiers all rended beautifully in 3D...oh my. Seeing them all stand so majestically just sends chills down my spine. Especially when you see your spearmen brace themselves for a cavarly charge, and you see the cavarly JUMP over the wall of spears. Now have that happen thousand times, at the same second. Yeah, you see what I'm getting at. ;)

3.Farcry
-Still looks good, considering it's age. The flora in this game also looked great, and the water effects are the best ever seen. Gotta love the heli's in the game, you can't beat seeing the chopper blades break off one by one.

2.Half-Life 2
-Oh come on, you saw this coming. Just play the game, you'll see.

1.Doom 3
-Sure, the game really, really bit the big one. But, it was sure as hell one graphical nightmare. I mean everything casted a shadow, everything had a actual property of "Mass", people's faces looked so real to the point where you could see the color of the pupil in their eyes in full detail. It was neat to be able to read the text on monitors around the game. The blood looked quite amazing, as there was often gallons of it around. The demons are the stars of the show though. Nothing could beat the texture of a Hellknight roaring in your face. With teeth, dripping blood, some ugly lips, saliva, and his eyes just had this look of "I'm going to rip you in half" that really made the fear effect of the game so much higher. Kudos to you ID, too bad the gameplay was so-so.

Like I promised. Here is my top ten list. Keep in mind that I only put games I actually played in my list. Though they are not many.

10. Counter Strike

This first person shooter is pretty realistic in it's graphics. The weapons look awesome as well. The only problem with the graphics in this game was that after you die and you ghost around a bit before you come back, you zoom around the map. Parts of the map disappear, and it looks like a city or town in the sky right above the ocean.

9. Fatal Frame

Fatal Frame looks pretty good for a survival horror genre type game. It doesn't have too much blood drenching the surroundings unlike other games. The ghosts are in high detail and give off that spooky aurora kind of a feel. The cutscences are made well, and still very scary.

8. Ninja Gaiden

I think that the monsters in the game were really made well, and I think that the main character looked pretty cool.

7. Soul Calibur 2

Now who doesn't think that this is good for it's graphics. I think that Link looks his best in this game than any of the Zelda games. ( except for the Zelda game coming out on the GCN in 2005)

6. Need For Speed Underground

The cars in the game were beautiful. The shading was pretty good, though the tracks were a little too bright sometimes for my taste. Other than that, I loved all the details that went into making the cars so very sweet.

5. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Though the facial expressions weren't the best in this game, all the rest made up for it. The movement of him running along the side of the wall was really cool. The movement during a battle looked like you were not really playing but actually watching a movie. The settings in the game were really cool as well.

4. Metal Gear Solid 2

Now this game was amazing. The movement of the characters were realistic. I loved how they did the rain in the beginning. This game was beautifully made.

3. Halo 2

Though not very realistic, the graphics in this game are really superb. There is detail everywhere you look. The creators even spent a lot of time working all of the minor details of the Master Chief. When I was playing the multi player online, I was in aww of my surrounding. Each and every player, vehicle, and weapon were awesome looking.

2. Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime did a really good job in the shading. Like whenever Samus ran through fog, or get splattered by water, you see it. It fogs up your vision for a second, or the water drips down her helmet. It's pretty realistic.

1. Half Life 2

Half Life 2 makes number one on my list. Nothing can't really compare to it. I mean, the graphics are that good. When you look at the water, you don't just see a solid blue or green color, but you see that the water is transparent...like water really is in real life.

I'll divide the list in half, since it'll be easier. Since I love RPGs, I'll list a "Top 5" for those and a "Top 5" for other games. This's gonna be difficult for me, since this category can span all the consoles. <:-/

I'm gonna base my judgement off of my own graphical tastes.

Top 5 Graphics - RPGs

(5)-Pokemon FireRed
Ok, leave me alone about this lol. I love 2D graphics, and they fitted well with the game's lighthearted theme. Vibrant, spirited, fun, and simple beyond primitive.

(4)-Legend of Mana
This time the graphics seemed to be a mix of 2D and 3D. I loved it, beginning to end. Everything appeared hand-drawn (or maybe it was XD). A complete abundance of artwork, with the graphics as polished as its soundtrack.

(3)-Dark Cloud 2
I fell in love with the game's graphics as soon as I played the game. Everything seems to be oddly detailed, from people's clothes to random knick-knacks, everything is in its place. Delightfully colored and anime-themed. I can't find much to say other than point out the fact that my eyes looked more at the environment than what was in front of me. XD What's most gorgeous are the sunrises and sunsets. ^_^

(2)-Tales of Symphonia
This game's graphics blew me away. It was ungodly eye candy for my lighthearted and detailed tastes. Blue skies, green grass, rich earthtones, etc. The artistic, vibrant colors and simplistic design made me drool. That, plus the animated cutscenes. ^o^

(1)-Final Fantasy VI
How can you be human and deny this? It's an SNES miracle!! From the sprites to your airship flying above the world, its graphics reign supreme. To me it was beyond its own time.

Top 5 Graphics - Other Games

(5)-Super Metroid
Samus breathing, her visor glowing in the dark, slimy chunks evaporating upon the destroying of an enemy, freaky backgrounds--this game threw me into the world of Zebes in a way I never expected when I first played it back in '95. Mother Brain is the best...I even liked her drool effects. XP

(4)-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I can't help it--this game is the best on the N64 for graphics in my humble opinion. Best overall. Anyways, I have a hard time finding anything else better than this. ^_~* I love the Magic Arrow effects, the misty mornings, clear waters, light reflecting off Link's shields and swords, and most of all, the lighting effects from torches and whatnot. Arrrgh, I'm getting the itch to play this game again! XD

(3)-Sonic Heroes
I'm pretty sure my hunger for brilliant games is causing me to pick this one to be number three. There's just something about this game that holds on to me, keeps me from tearing my eyes away from the environment's blue skies and shiny textures. It has one of the most funnest-looking graphics in a platformer, next to...

(2)-Super Mario Sunshine
I loved it. The graphics sucked me in, particularly the amazing Gelato Beach--the environment, water effects, sunset-lighting effects, sharpness, all hurt my eyes lol. If any fun game (particularly either RPG/Adventure/Platformer) could have great graphics, let it be made in this game's liking. It was a visual feast for me. I even recall looking over Gelato Beach's water fountain for 10 minutes. :whoops:

(1)-Metroid Prime
Well...*points up at Japan_86's post* :p It's gotta be the underwater effects. I like it best when Samus doesn't have her Gravity Suit on, because then everything's pale blue and...underwater-y. X3 And I think that looks pretty spiffy. But the thing that catches my eye is the Ice and Wave Beam effects, particularly when you use Missiles.

...Hmm...

Well, if I had to pick a game for best graphics overall, it'd have to be Super Mario Sunshine. ^_^

Ok, that was a long post..@_@;; *faints*

Yeah... that episode of Filter is a year old, but hey still play it all the time. Now I must warn you, my list will look slightly odd, because I don't buy PC games and I just got my XBOX on Christmas, and the only games I have are the two Halo games. I also dont really have any of the newer games because Im poor.

10. F-Zero GX: One again the moving backgrounds are great. This game has an increadible amount of detail.

9. Super Smash Bros. Melee: Like I said, I havent played any really new games. This one gets it because of the increadible charachter detail and moving backgrounds.

8. Onimusha series: The FMVs push the graphics of the PS2 to its virtual limit. Outside the graphics are great too with extreme gore. That French dude from Demon Seige looks exactly like the real guy.

7. Soul Calibur 2: The environments in this game are great. You can see everything going on i the background and stuff. Not to mention the detailed charachters and weapons.

6. Prince of Persia the Sands of Time: Im sure a lot of people like these graphics more than me, but I did think they were pretty darn sweet. The attacks are sweet.

5. The legend of Zelda the Wind Waker: This game is beutiful. I especially love the effects on the water. When you kill enemies and blow stuff up you get these awesome wind effects. And there are no load screens!

4. Baten Kaitos. This game has some great graphics throughout the entire game. Surprisingly though, I was expecting a lot of FMVs like the beutiful opening, but in the actual game there dont seem to be any FMVs.

3. Ratchet and Clank Series: These games are beutiful. The only laoding screens are when your flying to the next planet and after that its just pure beuty. You can see pretty much the entire level from one spot. If your standing on a tall building of something you can see everything. No invisible walls.

2. Halo 2: My god, these graphics are amazing. Just the fact that you can watch exactly what everyone is doing, like in the first level when looking out the large windows tells you exactly whats going on outside.

1. Metroid Prime: Beutiful. Words cannot describe the increadulous art incorperated into this masterpiece. Okay, thay can, but it would take an hour of typing really big words to do the graphics justice.
