2010DigitalBoy
Similar to the your games and what you think of them thread in Play It, I want to know what DVDs you have and what you think of them. If you have more than one DVD for the series, list them all so that you can share your thoughts on the contents of each one. Remember, you dont have to do them all at once. Ill do some right now! Lets see, I own 36 DVDs, so Ill do 6 at a time. .hack//LEGEND OF THE TWILIGHT vol.1: It wasnt until after I bought this that the show started on Cartoon Network. I like the show, and I like the manga, but I dont like the ending. I also felt there could have been a few more extras. .hack//SIGN vol.3: I had already seen the entire series on TV but I just couldnt resist getting my favorite episodes. Im thinking about going for the box set. Escaflowne the movie: This is a really great movie. Plenty of violance and a great story. The end was a bit weird though. The only problem is that it moves really slowly. Full Metal Panic vol. 1: I bought this from my cousin for five bucks. Its a pretty cool show with some of the funniest moments in anime. Chidory is teh sexyness. Generator Gawl vol. 1: This is a lot like FMP. Great humor and some cool battle scenes. They still havent really gotten into the story though. Generator Gawl vol. 2: I havent gotten around to watching it yet, but I will soon, as soon as I figure out my DVD player.

Syk3
Let's see here.. This is going to be a tough one, so I'll just comment by series or movie, rather than by DVD. Key: series/OVA series, movie/OVA movie, subtitled movie, subtitled series Angel Links (2 DVDs-13 eps) -I haven't watched too much of this; maybe one or two episodes at the most. I've had the series for a while, and got it because I was a fan of Outlaw Star, but this one has a much different appeal -- mostly fanboy (there's a cat that lives in the main character's breasts!). :p Not that this is bad, but I tend to prefer ones with a lot of action. The Animatrix -I think I picked this up the day it came out, since I was a Matrix fanatic back then. The anime shorts are really good, for the most part, but I was disapointed in others. My favorite has to be Detective Story, and I wasn't really a fan of the last one or World Record. Berserk (3 DVDs-25 eps) -Very cool. Up there with my favorite anime series, simply because of how badass the whole thing is without being melodramatic at all. I will agree that the end could have been a lot better since it raised more questions than it answered. And if you've seen the series, I own the pendant that Griffith wears. XD As for extra features, the outakes were halarious, heheh. Cowboy Bebop (3 DVDs-26 eps) -Undoubtedly my favorite series that I own, and in general. The variety is absolutely excellent in that it covers so many genres and so many bases; everything about it is perfection. The "bootleg" case is also really cool, because not only is the art fantastic, but it lists every episode, and has pictures to accompany all but two of them. It's also the first anime that I bought. Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven?s Door -A perfect movie to accompany a perfect series. They really couldn't have done better, and now that I have the dubbed version, I am content. Fooly Cooly (1 DVD-6 eps) -It's really great that they were able to fit all 6 episodes onto one disc in the version that I got, but that left no room for extras, which is ashame considering that they came with the legit DVDs. Still a trippy and funny series, though. I like it. Grave of the Fireflies -This is a highly recommended film, which tells of the hardships for a boy and his sister in Japan during WWII. A serious and emotional movie, indeed, and I should really get around to checking out the extra features. Hellsing (2 DVDs-13 eps) -I didn't really like this series very much for a number of reasons that I won't both to list here. The DVDs are set up beautifully, though, with really cool menus and extras. Love Hina (3 DVDs-26 eps) -This was a good series, but it got rather repetitive, not to mention slightly frustrating, after a while. If you haven't heard me say it before, I don't mind subtitles, but I prefer dubbed if I can help it. And although they pulled it off well, the whole "one guy in a house of girls" is a pretty cliche storyline for anime. <.< Neon Genesis Evangelion (8 DVDs-26 eps) -Simply amazing anime, to say the least. I've watched the series at least five times in order to fully grasp everything that was going on, though I haven't seen it for a year or two. I think that they pull off everything realistically, assuming that everything in that world actually took place. Honestly, people, if you're 14 and given the task of saving the world, you'd go through mental anguish as well. This is also the only series that I own that's fully legit. XD Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth -Not too big a fan of this movie, since it basically recapped the series and was all rather pointless in that sense. They tried to explain things, I think, but unless you already understood the entire series, it would have been very confusing. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion -I prefered this movie to the other Eva one, mainly because this one actually had a story line rather than flashing colors and pictures at you until you got a seizure. And the story wasn't that bad, I'd say, and gave the series an alternate ending that was as confusing, if not more so, than the series'. Noir (3 DVDs-26 eps) -This series is very well made, and I enjoyed it, but due to the only continuing storyline, it doesn't have very much... replay value. lol But the anime itself took a lot of work to create, since it's just so realistic. Nurse Witch Komugi (2 DVDs-6 eps) -Just a silly anime that I picked up since I enjoyed watching it on tv. It's all just so satisfying, heh, since you're really not following a storyline or sanity or anything at all. Sort of like Excel Saga, but less.. how do I put this? Less.. @#$$&$%%#$%#$!!11!1 ..insane? Outlaw Star (3 DVDs-26 eps) -Just a really cool series and fun to watch. It's funny and full of action, so it's one of those anime that you can just sit down and enjoy. RahXephon (3 DVDs-26 eps) -Not quite as realistic as Eva, but it does well to clasify itself as its own series despite simlarities. And in doing this, the anime is actually quite deep when you get into it, and possibly even more confusing than Eva once you reach the end. I love the animation in it. Rurouni Kenshin (12 DVDs-95 eps) -My second favorite anime, since it has so much time to show how cool it is. Some of the fight scenes are the among the coolest that I've seen in any anime to date, so that has to count for something. The story lines are thought-out and enjoyable, and you have to love all the characters, heh. The only real problem that I have are my DVDs which are complete and utter crap that will work on nothing but rather decent DVD players (no PS2s or computers). Rurouni Kenshin [Samurai X] Movie -I haven't seen this one in a while, but it really freaked me out when I was watching it dubbed and they had different voices than the series, lol. The story line was kinda cool, but nothing amazing, so it may not stick out. Kind of felt like one long episode when you take a step back. Rurouni Kenshin [Samurai X] Trust and Betrayal -One of my favorites when it comes to anime movies, it does a great job of being similar to the series, but at the same time uses incredible originality. The film is just so.. cool, and badass. It doesn't hesitate to show Kenshin's lethal and jaw-dropping skill in Kyoto during the revelution, to the point where it shows you how awesome he is while keeping it to realistic standards. This DVD kinda sucks, though. Rurouni Kenshin [Samurai X] Reflections -This was a satisfying end to the series once you have completed watching the entire thing. It takes place about 15 years after the final episode, and provides final closure to fans. The thing that I found to be most interesting was when they used the ooohh-aahhh animation from the films to recreate classic moments from the series. Samurai Deeper Kyo (3 DVDs-26 eps) -I think that I got through about half of this series when I realized that I didn't really like it too much. The samurai anime are cool and everything, and it's interesting to put a demon twist on it every once in a while, but when they're constantly fighting rediculous demons in the stupidest forms, it gets kind of old. I'll probably finish it up and sell it to the highest bidder. :p Serial Experiments Lain (2 DVDs-13 eps) -Though brilliant, this series will trip you out for sure. XD And not the silly FLCL trippy, either - it trips you out by going super deep into the story line. It's recommended that you watch it at least three times through to absorb all of it, but I've only seen it once so far, heh. It's good, though, which I can say with confidence even though I have a lot of trouble understanding it. >.o Spriggan -Eh, I always felt that this movie was kind of out of place. It's a cool kick-butt kind of anime, sure, but then they throw in these DBZ-esque and bible twists which, in my opinion, don't do much to enhance the experience. I really enjoy the animation, though, and I should probably watch it again and check out the extras. Tokyo Godfathers -I don't think that I've even taken this out of the package yet, haha. I saw it last year in my school's anime club, and it was a nice Christmas-ey movie, being heartwarming and silly in its own way. The only thing is that it said dubbed when I ordered it, and I got subbed, but I don't think that there's another version afterall; it must have been a typo on the site. >_< Trigun (3 DVDs-26 eps) -This is one of the first anime that I bought, and it remained a favorite of mine for a long time. Right now it holds the 5th place spot, but it's still an excellent show, in my opinion. The humor and action are top notch, and you can just watch it over and over again, and it'll never get old. Voices of a Distant Star -A short but amazing anime, I got this a couple weeks ago when I picked up Tokyo Godfathers. The sheer fact that one guy made this on his computer over the course of three years still isn't enough to explain how beautiful this new-age love story is. X TV (3 DVDs-24 eps) -We watched about half of the series in my anime club, and I still haven't gotten around to finishing it on my own time. I liked what I saw, though, so it's not for lack of enjoyment.
Guest Chibi Me Z
Wow... 36... Now I know I spend too much on anime... WAY too much... I refused to go hunt all my DVDs down so this is a list of the ones I could think of off the top of my head. -Chrno Crusade - Love this anime. It's one of my favorites at the moment... It's funny, has some action, nuns figting demons and all, and yet at the end of it I cried... Not many anime move me to tears, but this one did. -Peace Maker - My second fave. It's got alot of humor in it along with a bit of history. And when I say a bit I mean a TINY bit... You follow a boy's path to become a member of the Shinsengummi, so if you watched Kenshin you will reconize a few people. -Azumanga Daioh - Very funny show and this is one you can even let the kids watch... I own very few that I would let children see... -Chobits - Cute... Very cute... All about a boy and his robot... His cute girl robot... -X - Pretty... And the manga was drawn by Clamp my favorite artist. How could I not like this one. -Gundam Wing - In my mind still the best Gundam show EVER... -Gundam Seed - I like this one better then most other Gundam shows but that's not saying alot... Don't get me wrong it's a good show, Nice story line, good character devolpment... But if Flay does one more thing to annoy me I think I'm gonna hit her. -Sorcerer Hunter - Not one for the kiddies... In fact the anime of this on isn't really all that good... I prefer the manga. Humor but more on the adult side of things. -Revolutionary Girl Utena - What can I say that has been said before, except if you haven't seen it; do. I also have the movie, but I think that the series is better. -Dragon Ball - It was cute the frist time around, I can even stand to rewatch it... But not for long periods of time. -DBZ - See Dragon Ball... Just not cute, action packed... -Hamtaro - Ummm... I like really cute things??? -Ceres - I remembered this story from when I was a little kid... This version was different. For the better... recomend this one. -Ranma 1/2 - One of my pet pevs is sthe misspronoucement of this name rAHnma... Martial Arts Everything. -Outlaw Star - Bought it befor I knew Cartoon Network was gettting it... Grrr.... -Cowboy Bebop - Bought it befor CN got it... It's better witout the edits... But think out if this way, American TV edited less out of the show then Japanese air waves did! -Sailor Moon - Was my first anime... If you don't count transformers from when I was a kid... I grew out of this one along time ago. -Card Captor Sakura - Not the US dub, but the subtitled version... I Love this one... Again it was made by Clamp... -Bubble Gum Crisis - Very girl empowering. Haven't watched this one in a while but I still like it. -Kare Kano - Cute highschool romance. -Full Metal Panic - High school And Giant Robot what's not to like... I wish that the would hurry up with Fuumafuu though... -Excel Saga - Ummm... It would take too long to say what all I like about this one... Just watch it... -Fruits Basket - Pretty.... -Saiyuki - Prettier.... and follows the tale of the journy west a LOT closer then Dragon Ball does. -Hellsing - I've got a thing for Vampires. -Evangelion - Can't say anything that hasn't been said befor. -Trigun - It took me a while to buy this one. The cover art was missleading. Very funny. -Samurai Deeper Kyo - I'm only on Volume 2 of this one but from what I can see it differs from the manga which I like. -Escaflowne - This was the first DVD that I bought... And I still Love this one! As I said this is not all of what I have... I don't have all the disks to these series but I have more then enough of them. Then there's my Manga... What I don't spend on my car or food goes to anime and manga... *sigh* I have no life....

Sinistra
Since Christmas just rolled around, my Anime DVD collection has just expanded from at least 50 to I'd round about 75 or so, now Chibi Me Z, try and add that all up when the price averages to be about $27.99 at Media Play.
Wow... 36... Now I know I spend too much on anime... WAY too much...
That's a good $2099.25 roughly...you think you spend a lot, try that out. Um, I own most of the Yu Yu Hakusho collection, Spiral, Azumanga Daioh, Dead Leaves, Gravitation, .hack//SIGN, Cowboy Bebop, Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, Kiddy Grade, D*N*Angel, Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum Edition 1, Tenchi Muyo, and some Wolf's Rain to throw in the mix... QuincyArcher
my collection isnt that big at the moment (because anime is so expensive >_<) but its growing. i usually buy 1-2 dvds every thursday (my payday) and here is my collection thus far: Azumanga Daioh - All 6 dvds + Collector's box & all 5 pins Mahoromatic - All 6 dvds + Collector's box w/ Summer Special dvd & Mahoro Figure Chobits - All 7 dvds + Collector's box Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum - First 4 dvds + Collector's box FLCL - All 3 dvds + Collector's box Love Hina - 9 dvd perfect collection that released recently for some reason i have an obsession for having to buy the collector's box when i go out to buy a series. the box for Chobits was especially hard to get a hold of. Series' that i plan to buy in the future (when they release or when i can afford it...) : Cowboy Bebop, Last Exile, Ghost in the Shell, Ai Yori Aoshi, School Rumble, Noir & Samurai Champloo. Make sure you guys support the creators of the animes and buy the real licensed dvds! not chinese bootleg sets!!

natetron46
I actually thought that the Cowboy Bebop DVD is the best investment I have made as far as anime DVD's ever. I really liked it, the story was great and it was an awesome series. As far as other ones, I have: Animatrix Final Fantasy The Spirit Within (I saw it listed before) Gundam wing vols 1 2 3 4 5 6 Hellsing vols 1 2 3 4 Princess Mononoke Ghost in Shell Cowboy Bebop
2010DigitalBoy
I think its time for part two. Oh, yeah, and my .hack//LEGEND DVDS have a collection box. Haibane Renmei vol1 /box: I saw this for only 21 bucks at GameStop. I had heard about it and bought it. After the first two episodes I got so bored I never watched the rest. Hellsing vol. 1 and 2/box: This is an OK series but the manga is very much better. They say the F-bomb way to much. King of Bandit Jing vol 1-2-3-4/box *complete set*: This is probably the best anime series I have ever seen. The animation is beutiful, the charachters are cool, and there are great battle sequences. I think the sheer weirdness is what keeps me coming back. The only problem is that it isnt too popular, so the gameboy game and OVA were never brought over sees. Dagger
Make sure you guys support the creators of the animes and buy the real licensed dvds! not chinese bootleg sets!!
I heartily second that. ^_^ Anyway, there'd be little point in going through my whole collection, so I'll just comment on whatever I've been watching/re-watching recently. Texhnolyze v. 5: The penultimate volume of a fascinating show. Like the earlier discs, it's dark, creepy and brutally violent. However, the episodes on this DVD provide several important revelations, and the scenes which take place in the
surface world
elevate the series to new heights of artistry and sheer weirdness. I just wish that Touyama had a more prominent role. Revolutionary Girl Utena v. 10: It's probably the single best DVD I have ever seen, and one of the main reasons that Utena is pretty much my favorite anime. In a mere three episodes, the entire show is turned on its head, and is concluded in the most satisfying, heart-wrenching and beautiful manner imaginable. Last Exile v. 7: I can't believe this show is over. I'm not totally happy with how some of the characters were handled--I would have preferred more closure regarding Dio, for example--but on the whole, I loved this set of episodes. Seeing Alex
snap Delphine's neck
totally made my day. Stellvia v. 1 with LE tin: The packaging can only be described as stunning (and saves a lot of space, to boot). As for the show itself, it's cute and shiny-looking, but not terribly gripping. I'll probably wait for some cheap bundles before buying the next seven volumes. Comments on Gad Guard v. 4 and a couple of other DVDs will be edited in later. ~Dagger~

SaiyanDestroya
Trigun Box Set: My first DVD purchase of an anime, cost me an arm and a leg, but I love it to death. And that's it.....
natetron46
The Trigun box set was outrageously expensive, but it is a great collection. I almost wish I had ebayed it.
Guest Chibi Me Z
To Jung Woo... I try not to think about how much I spend on my anime and manga... Let's just say that it's WAY more than $2000... I own just as much manga as I do anime... I spend more on anime then I do on my car... *sigh*
kennet1977
Just got back from counting my DVD's and I have over 200 total. Here is the break down: 19 Box sets-complete, 13 series complete(non-boxed), 7 movies, 12 disks of series I am working on completing. My favorite ones that I own are as follows: Cowboy Bebop-complete-box set, Saiyuki-complete-2 box sets, Azumaga Daioh-complete, Trigun-complete-box set, Love Hina-complete+3 specials. Would anyone out there like to do the math as to how much I have invested on Anime DVD's alone? Why do I like them? I enjoy the animation/style. Readordie
I have...wow. I have more than 20. I wasn't expecting so much. okay, this ain't gonna be alphabetized... Noir, 19 episodes out of 26: Wow, this just makes me GIDDY with joy. Big eyes, big guns, big...I'll stop while I'm ahead. I love this anime with all my heart, although the digital omake in the first DVD could have been less explicit. Worth every cent. Cowboy Bebop, complete: It's Bebop. Enough said. Read or Die OAV: I love it for the same reasons I love Noir. Princess Mononoke: Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki... Spirited Away: Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki... Laputa, Castle in the Sky(on tape): Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki Miyazaki... Bubblegum Crisis, complete but on tape: Wow, I have a collection normally featuring strong women in tight uniforms, don't I? Rune Soldier: See description of Bubblegum Crisis Cowboy Bebop, the Movie(on tape): It's Bebop, again, 'nuff said Witch Hunter Robin, episodes 1-9: Beautiful visuals and music, but not enough action Evangelion, episodes 1-4(P.S., I've seen more episodes than that): Nice artwork and characters, lacklustre animation. The animation picks up for battles, however.
Sinistra
To Chibi Me Z... Sorry if that came off wrong or something...but yeah, aren't anime and manga just a couple of those things that you get addicted to and start buying until you've realized that you've spent WAY more than you intended to sometimes? I just know I'm gonna do that this weekend... :D
I own just as much manga as I do anime... I spend more on anime then I do on my car... *sigh*
More anime than your car, huh? I'm lucky, I don't have to drive just yet, but I'll probably end up just like that when it comes time...LOL...
Billy Shears
Ugh, I'm so goddamn poor it makes me sick. *denotres completeion S-cry-ED*: Got this for X-mas. I watched 3 episodes, and liked what I saw. The art style is cool, the dub is quite nice, and action a-plenty. Hellsing*: I love this anime soo much. So gory, yet...satisfying (but not the end! No I need to by the manga now, huh?! Freaking money...). Has the #2 spot of my favorite dubs ever. They really sound Britsh. Cowboy Bebop*: Fist series I bough from eBay for 18$. What a steal, eh folks? Saiyuki Pt.1: It's a nice series, great artwork, but falls kinda short in the dub/story department. Noir*: Christmas gift as well. Have not watched any yet :( Black Jack*: Tezuka Osamu's surgeon/thriller is like 6 semi-realistic episode of E.R. I love the artstyle. The Vision of Escaflowne*: NOT THE MOVIE. The series. Also, have not watched it yet :( :( Odds & Ends: FLCL vol.1 (why?), Wolf's Rainvol.1 (ok, slow pace is a bummer) Initial D vol.1 and 2 (great racing, enjoyable characters contrast bad artwork and thin plot)
