Talon
My opinion has changed a bit since I was an impressionable fourteen-year-old. At first, I was pro-choice, but having examined every facet of the argument, I am now pro-life. My opinion is that, in the case of a mother who simply doesn't want a child, adoption is readily available. It doesn't matter if the child hasn't taken its first breath, it doesn't matter if it hasn't yet seen the world, the baby STILL HAS A SOUL! In the case of underage pregnancy: you took the risk, you knew what could happen, deal with it. Though I think a tutoring program for the later trimesters would be a very good thing, so that the future mother doesn't need to skip out on any schoolwork. After the child is born, if the mother doesn't want her baby, then the child can be put up for adoption. Same thing for rape victims. It doesn't matter if the baby came from a drunk guy you never met before, it is still a baby with a soul. Should it be executed for the crimes of the father? Put it up for adoption. I don't CARE what labels a doctor attaches to an unborn baby. I don't CARE that those in the medical profession say a fetus is not alive until it's taken its first breath. In my opinion, anything that has a soul and needs another being to live off of is ALIVE. Fate created it for a reason: you could very well be killing the child who'll find the cure for cancer, the person who may find a way to send human beings through space at speeds greater than that of light. But will you find out if the child is killed before it breathes? No.
Mykul
see, that legacy just made a very good point or two! the child in the mother still has a soul. and yes, doctors who are pro choice are inaccurate, if not wrong, with their defintion of something being alive. no, a fetus cannot breathe, but wtf do you think the umbilical (spelling?) cord is for? it feeds the fetus! the dang thing needs nutrients provided by the mother, it needs to feed, its ALIVE! things that arent alive dont EAT (for nutrients, no one needs to come up with some smart alec answer about something that feeds and isnt alive). wrist cutter
I just found out Arnold Schwarzenegger supported abortion. I was totally depressed. I totally supported this guy until I found this out. What happened to the badass who killed Predator? Any guy who is badass enough to do that surely wouldn't support abortion. Yeah, so I changed my avatar accordingly. I'm disillusioned.
ChibiHorsewoman
Those same people are for abstinence, which works 100% of the time. That too would 'curb teh need for abortions'
Try typing with a 3 month old in your arms (heh). Hey, I'm for abstinence too, but I'm also for being realistic. And realisticly speaking, how many 20 somethings (I'm using my age group so we won't get into teenage sex and such) get all hot and heavy then say...oh wait I on't want to get pregnant so even though we'e 3/4 naked, I think we should stop. Nope, sure, someone might think long enough to put a condom on...or hopefully the female part of the twosome will insist that the guy wear a condom, but that's not always going to happen. That's why people who are so against abortions need to realize that not only is birth control a good idea. They should also realize that using birth control helps to assure the woman will get pregnant later and that contraceptives don't kill a fetus/embryo...whatever you want to frefere to the unborn as. Contraceptives prohibit an egg from being fertilized in the first place. That's why I don't understand why so many people who are pro life are against the use of contraceptives as well since they help in the fight against unplanned (notice I didn't type unwanted) pregnancies and therefore can help lessen the need for abortions. And as for what Legacy put about how their opinion has changed since they were an irresponsible fourteen year old, well, I'm a responsible twenty-three year old who believes that a woman has a right to chose what is done with her body. I always have. Ok, since I was sixteen I have. It doesn't seem right to say always since for the first part of your life your veiws are influenced by your parents. But that's my feelings on the subject,
