The War of the Capture Ball [PG]

This Pokèmon fanfiction is more serious than the show, I think. It doesn't follow the show one bit --- it follows the manga, and only to the ending of the Kanto series. There are always some things I added in that didn't happen in the manga.

Oh, and I'm not sure if I'm going to include graphics. The graphics I made were for my first attempt, and that one fell through. So keep hope.

Pokèmon: The War of the Capture Ball
Prologue
The sun had set several hours before. The sky was blanketed with darkness. The moon served as a beacon to any who traveled by night. And in Pallet Town, a storm like no other was brewing in its cauldron.

Harvey watched the starry sky out of his bedroom window. He pointed out all of the constellations to himself; Orion, the Little and Big Dippers, Capricorn. Something about the stars calmed him. He felt perfectly in tune with them. When the night was calm and the stars shined, like tonight, he was calm and content. When the sky was cloudy, he felt a sense of bewilderment and was often unable to concentrate. And when it rained, he was short fused.

Tomorrow is the big day, he thought. Tomorrow, I?ll become a true Pokèmon trainer. I?ll choose Bulbasaur --- no, Charmander --- no --- oh, I?ll choose when I get there. I?ll chose a Pokèmon and finally begin my journey.

There was a rustling under Harvey?s top bunk. Harvey?s seven year old brother, Grant, had woken up. The boy had brown hair, like Harvey, and looked remarkably like him. The only thing between the two boys were their eye colors --- Harvey had hazel, like his father?s, and Grant had green, like his mother?s.

Grant climbed the small ladder that allowed access to the top bunk, and situated himself across from Harvey.

?Sorry for waking you up,? Harvey said.

?I wasn?t really asleep, anyways,? Grant lied. ?What?s wrong, Harv? Excited about tomorrow??

Harvey sighed and said, ?Yeah, I guess.?

?You don?t sound too excited to me.?

?It?s nothing. I mean, it?s something. But it?s nothing.?

?I?ve heard you at night, you know.? Harvey gave him a blank stare. ?Lying here, before you fall asleep. You talk to yourself. About how you?d like to right Dad?s wrongs.?

Harvey paused. His brother had hit the nail on the head. Well, almost. He wasn?t talking to himself. He was talking to the stars. He believed that ever star was a wish maker, and if someone wanted something bad enough, there was a star to make their wish come true. Harvey hadn?t found his star.

?Yeah, I would like to do that. I mean, look at all the bad things he did, how he used those Pokèmon. Those Pokèmon who weren?t even his. How am I going to become a Pokèmon Champion with someone like that as my father? Even if he is dead, he?s still going to make people look down on me.?

Grant made a clicking sound with his tongue, then looked out of Harvey?s window. ?No, I don?t think so. Mom said that Dad was a phony, and anyone who knows we are his kids will see how special we are despite his actions.? He paused for a moment, then looked at Harvey. ?You remember the Pokèball that?s on the mantle above the fire place? The one Mom says is Dad?s last Pokèmon that he never used??

Harvey, not knowing where his brother was going, replied: ?Yeah.?

?If you really want to become better than Dad, take that Pokèmon as your starter and leave tonight.?

?What? Mom would be furious!?

?No she wouldn?t. She knows how upset you are with Dad. We all are. Leave tonight, and tomorrow, I?ll explain to Mom what you wanted. Then she?ll tell Professor Oak and everything will be fine.?

Harvey thought about this for a moment. He could do it, he supposed. But what were the consequences? His Mom would be furious. But Grant didn?t think so. And Oak might be disappointed and deactivate his Pokèdex. Could he do that? He did event the thing, so it?d make sense.

He scanned the room with his eyes. He spotted his Pokeballs which were attached on the inside of his green jacket. There were a couple Potions, the Shadow Ball TM, a couple Paralyze Heals, and an Antidote, all of which were given to him on his tenth birthday a day before. His Pokèdex was lying on his desk. If he decided to go tonight, he would have everything he needed.

And, he thought, it wasn?t such a bad idea.

That was the night Harvey left Pallet Town. He knew nothing of the storm that had been brewed that night.

A Pokemon fanfic. Finally, a good Pokemon fanfic. I really liked it. And I see how the sprite comic you were making relates to this story. Very clever. Very clever... ^_~

Well, I really hope you continue with this, since (on AIM) you said you might not. Please do. =D
