natetron46
Battlestar Galactica is coming back this week. The new show on Sci Fi premiers on friday of this week. I loved the original miniseries, but I thought that it faded out fast. Im really glad that this will now be added as a full time show for Sci Fi. Manic Webb
I saw the miniseries earlier this week, and just finished seeing the first episode, "33." This series looks like it'll be filled with strong, addictive, medicinally legal, Columbian pure drama. I tried watching the reruns the Sci-Fi channel was airing of the original series, but I could never get into it. It just wasn't appealing to me at all. This new series, on the other hand, looks like it's achieving its goal. It's drawing in new fans, and reimagining an epic story that never had the chance to really take off. As I understand it, they made quite a few changes to the story and cast. I think Boomer and Starbuck (I crave a frapp everytime I hear that name) were originally men, and the Cylons weren't created by humans. I can only imagine that this ticks off quite a few fans of the original series. Many of which, mind you, have to be at least 30 years old by now. Vicky
I've been watching for some time now, and I love the mini series. Starbuck was a man, but I think Boomer was a women, I'm not to sure (I remember there being two men and a women... oh well. I think the whole mini series is great. I love the Cylons, and (can't remember his name) the man that was a cylon and was being tortured for information on where the bomb was, he was great. That whole talk about God and whatnot was really cool. I missed the first two episodes but I still got dragged into it, heh. No one in my school watches it so they don't know what they're missing, but I'm glad there are some others who do watch it other then myself. I'll be glad if the original series is shown again (I hope it is over here anyway) because I loved the mini series and I really want to see the original, I just hope it's as good.
Manic Webb
You know, it's funny. The miniseries and the first two episodes ("33" and "Water") were all filmed at the same time in 2003, and sat perfectly still until Sci-Fi picked it up as a full series. So when the cast reassembled in 2004 to film this week's new episode, "Bastille Day," they looked almost entirely different. What really caught my eye was how refreshed President Roslin looked, and the red highlights in her hair. This week's episode featured Richard Hatch (who played Apollo in the original series) as Tom Zarek, a political prisoner who sparked a prison riot that erupted into a hostage situation. This was an Apollo-centric episode (the new Apollo, not Hatch), where we got to see lots of action and the way Apollo thinks. From the beginning of the episode, we're presented the the idea of choosing sides, which Apollo doesn't quite understand. Throughout the episode, the theme keeps coming up until Apollo finally makes a decision. Meanwhile, we get a look at Starbuck's sense of humor, how she keeps up morale, her l33t sniping skillz(!!11), and her tense friend-enemy relationship with Colonel Tigh. Just when you think they're close to making peace with one another, one of them purposely tries to ruin the moment. Good stuff.
Endymion
Tonight was the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. I must say it was the best episode yet, I can't wait for the second season to start in July. The series was great from the start of the mini-series to now. Though Starbuck and Boomer were males in the original series, the new female characters are most enjoyable. Edward James Olmos I think was perfect for Commander Adama. The storyline is very intriguing. I've actually seen most of the original series, and though alright, it had a couple major disappointments
1) Starbuck is marooned, wtf, he kicked ***. 2) The ragtag fleet makes it to Earth, only to find it in 'our' time, to the series, 1970's Earth...i was like 'wtf' and my dad concurred
. The season finale totally rocked my sci-fi loving world. The plot was great and every scene was masterfully done.
Lee putting the gun to Tigh's head, was suprising, but not as much as Boomer shooting Commander Adama twice as he congratulated her on the high-risk, cylon basestar destroying mission. My dad thought Boomer had 'broken' through her programming, but he was wrong, and I loved the scene. The fight between Number Six and Starbuck was pretty cool though.
Manic Webb
It's weird seeing someone use one of my old screen names. I used to be Endymion back in 2002 (then Manic from 2003-05), so seeing you with that name was a tad shocking. I'm also glad someone else decided to reply to this thread before I got desperate and double-posted. I was very shocked at how they concluded the first season, and how they totally shook up the status quo. Boomer's
cover has been blown on both fronts. The sleeper aboard the Galactica got the answers she needed, but didn't necessarily want; she's a Cylon, and she's not exactly a unique model. When she shot Adama at the end of the episode, I was wondering if that was the mission Six was talking about with Baltar.
Then you've got the other
Boomer on the planet Caprica with Helo. Notice that Helo has been going through the 5 stages of grief this whole time. When Sharon showed up to save him, instantly killed a blonde woman (Six) for no reason, survived a Cylon kidnapping, wasn't getting tired, and they spotted multiple copies of Six walking among the Cylons, Helo was in denial. The clues were right in front of him that Boomer knew something he didn't, but he wasn't seeing it. Then came anger, when he pretty much shot her. Bargaining came when he interrogated her about where the "real" Sharon was, even though she is the real one. I might've missed depression, but acceptance sure came when Helo defended Boomer from Starbuck.
Speaking of Starbuck,
I wonder how she's going to handle the idea that Boomer, someone who she's been working with for months, has been a Cylon. On top of that, she's pregnant and apparently under Helo's protection. She has the arrow of Apollo, but will she take it back to Roslin? Will she even be able to get to Roslin? Will she take Helo and Boomer with her, or will she leave them behind so they can start a life together? And if she does bring them back, will she claim that the pregnant Boomer with her is a "real" human, and that the one who killed Adama was just a Cylon fake?
I could go on like this forever. This was a very compelling and addictive show (Columbian pure, just like I predicted), and I'm really looking forward to the next season starting this July. Tigervx
I've only seen the Sci Fi Version so far, but I really love the series. Infact, I started watching when the Hostage crisis on the pirson ship ended so I never saw the first episodes. Despite all these, I still think its a very addicting series. Another thing I like about it is that the Humans are desperate, they're running, they've had to result to guerilla tactics. I mean, in Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40k, humans are always dominate. However, why would we be dominate? I always found this to be kinda cliche in Sci Fi series. About the conclusion
I didn't see Boomer shoot Adama at all. It was a huge shock for me. I usually can see whats going to happen a mile away (I knew that Helo and Boomer Cylon would come to Starbucks as soon as she started getting beat) but I honestly thought she had overcome her program, since she was able to detatch the nuke and destroy the BaseStar. I was just thinking it was wrapping things up now, but BOOM Adamas down. I honestly couldn't believe it, thats probably one of the most shocking moments I've seen in a series. And they left us on such a cliff hanger =/. For one, I'm not sure if they'd actually kill Adama or if he's still alive since he's a great character (I have no idea how far medicine has gone). Whats going to happen with the President? What about Earth? Kobal? Didn't we see Cylon troop transports leaving the battle start bound for Kobal as Boomer entered the BaseStar? So many unanswered questions.
Another part I thought was well done was
when the President and Adama where playing their oh so dangerous game of BS. I really couldnt' tell what was going to happen with this. Adama seemed determined not to back down, and being unpredicatable as he has been I wasn't sure if he would resort to a bloody coup.
One more thing, do Battlestars have Anti Fighters weapons such as the equivilent to an AA gun on a carrier? This puzzled me when the
Cylon Raider earlier on tried to kamikaze the Battlestar.
Being the main ships against invaders such as the Cylons, why wouldn't they have some sort of defenses against fighters craft? Really on your fighter craft purely seems tactically unwise as if even one Raider got through the fighter blockade and hit the bridge, it would be the end.

Here's why the Galactica doesn't have any anti-fighter weapons, plus a few more key moments in the movie...
The war with the Cylons ended 40 years ago. The Cylons left when all of them still looked robotic. During those 40 years of peace, the Galactica saw no action. So finally, they decided to decommission the Galactica and turn it into a historic museum. They removed nearly all of its weapons, and the crew onboard was small. Then one day, just recently, the Cylons appeared out of nowhere and nuked all 12 planets the humans were living on. The 40,000 or so people who happened to be in space for whatever reasons (commercial flights to other planets, luxury resorts in space, shipping prisoners to other planets, mining ships, ect.) are the only survivors of the human race. When the Cylons attacked, everyone not on a planet banded together and ran. There was no time for the Galactica to register new weapons, and probably nowhere for them to get the weapons from. Really, they're lucky to still have Vipers/fighters. Also, the only reason Roslin became President, if you didn't know, was because she is the highest ranking government offical still alive. She was the Secretary of Education, which placed her as 43rd in line to become president. Everyone else died in the Cylon nuke attacks. She just happened to be at Galactica's museum opening when it happened.
Gavin
I never really got into watching the new series of Battlestar Galactica when it was airing on SkyOne UK, so mostly all I caught was an episode here and there until I actually sat down and began to watch it properly. I enjoy the show but I wouldn't watch it in the place of Stargate if both were on at the same time, perhaps it's because I haven't watched enough of the show, although against Stargate I'd turn down pretty much anything. Overall though after I began to sit down and watch it I developed a liking for it, Galactica doesn't try and hide to horrors of war as many other Sci-Fi series do [SW and ST for instance], something which makes it unique and gripping. Some of the characters however did began to get a little on my nerves, the worst one being Starbuck, it's probably because I didn't watch it from the start but I just never liked her. Edward James Olmos though, is the man and probably one of the sole reasons I continued to watch the series after the first few episodes, his character just intriguing and a bit refreshing compared to Starbuck. I missed the series finale, heck I missed most of the series so I'll have to wait and hope they re-air it in SkyOne UK before I can make some solid decisions on what I really think. Endymion
Baltar I guess is coming to terms with Number Six plagueing his thoughts the whole time. I wonder what his agenda will be in the coming season. I actually watched the season finale twice, the first time around I missed the first 15 minutes, which made me confused the first time around. The second time, watching it in its completeness cleared the things I was confused about up. I always find Baltar's interactions with Number Six funny. Baltar has a certain magnetism to him.
The funniest scene though must've been when he was with Starbuck and she called out Lee's name.
I much prefer this series to the original actually. I mean, not just because of better effects and all. I find the storyline better, and the characters great(though the original Starbuck and Apollo kicked butt). Feel the same way about Sci-Fi's Dune vs. the original. Sci-fi's was alot closer to the book. Anyway, the new Battlestar Galactica is awesome. July is far though...time to to watch re-runs upon re-runs....SWEET!

I'm not a die hard fan of Battlestar Galactica, but changing Starbuck to a woman kind of killed it for me. *He was my favirote character in the original* I've tried, but I just don't like her in the role. The special effects are better *though with technological advances that's no biggie* the plot is more complicated and yet I still just can't seem to get into the new series. I tried to watch it but the further it goes along the more annoying I find it to be. :animesigh
