I think I've done this thread once before, but it's been a while, so I'll do it again.

If you're not all ready (or if you are) pursuing the career of your dreams, what is it?

Me? I have three, actually.

The first one is to be a journalist. I love reporting --- I like letting the world know about things they need to know about. Seeing as 90% of the world is ignorant, I'd help big time (in my opinion).

I'd like to see myself as the editor of New York Times. I know that's a little far fetched, but seriously, it'd be fun. I love New York anyways.

I might move into news broadcast, but that's a last resort in this case. Though I've been on stage, the thought of having thousands of people watching me irks me to no end.

Secondly, I'd like to be a college Journalism teacher. This one is pretty much explained in why I want to be a journalist. My thought here is that if I can reach one person with what I know in my classes, then the world will be one person smarter, and that's better than nothing.

The third and last thing is a profesor de español (Spanish teacher). I love the language and the culture. Both are fun to learn and research.

("growed up" in the title is intentional)

Hmmm? I seem to remember posting on that? there were quite a few authors? and I was one of them. I like the thought of being able to reach people threw what I right. Also I have been thinking since that thread and thought it would be interesting to major in languages. It would be cool to be an interpreter. I?d get to go to a foreign country! Any job that would allow me to travel to different countries would be awesome! I think my father mentioned I could be a travel agent or something because they get to travel? is that true? So currently that?s all I can think of ?but it?s very late 10:00? I?ll try and edit later because there are so many more things that would be fun!

When I grow up, I want to be a science teacher. Don't shoot me! I have a reason! Eep! *hides*

Anyway, I want to be a teacher so that I can help kids. I know school doesn't seem ... helpful ... but, it is. So, yeah. I want to be a science teacher because I love science. :glasses:

ok. now you can shoot me.

Hmm, well being already realtively mature, I don't know exactly where I'm supposed to go. lol

Okay, so let me think...if was in my 30's...I'd like to be:

1.Out of the US.
2.In Italy.
3.An established artist.
4.Wealther than I am now.

Don't get me wrong, I love this place and my current job is cool. But I don't want to be a DJ for life, besides I know that's not entirely possible. And this city is just too old for me now. I want to get out and explore.

I want to be a comedian. It's because it's so much fun. I can come up with something and work on it for hours just for that one laugh, and it's worth it. It also helps that I know I can do it. I'm only 15 and I already have about 80% of my first act done. Also, my work would include walking around and really taking in my world, and making it funny. And I work when I want, and while on tour, I visit all sorts of different places I just dream about now.

I guess I either want to be an artist (I love to draw) or an author (I love to wright). If I were both that would help out to that way I could do my own covers for my books! But realy I have drawn since I was three (currently 14) and Ive only gotten better. The wrighting thing however started when I was 13. I met a new friend and he had great fanfic ideas and storys so I decided that I could do it. There is however the fact that I am awesome at math. I might end up teaching it.

Right now I'm not so sure. I have a few careers paths in mind. For one I wold like to be a chef. You know maybe have my own t.v show on the cooking network. Second I wold like to be a photographer. I love the way they make they can make breathtaking photos kinda like a painter. Third I would like to be a reporter for a magazine like Anime Insider, or EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly). Hey Idiots can have dreams too. :D

Haven't settled on a career yet. Most people's jobs will change many, many times over the course of their life anyhow.

I want to be the best follower of Christ that I can, a good husband to an attractive women (crosses fingers), and get paid for writing in some capacity. Beyond that, we'll see.

I'd like to get some random influx of money to go to college, graduate with a degree in some form of Computer Science, meet the perfect girl and get married.

This obviously won't happen, especially the money and girl part, so I'll probably end up joining the Army.

I'd like to be either an artist, a journalist (my dad has written for three different newspapers in California, and I've always liked the idea of writing for one, also, even if not in California), or a -my God, I'll sound like a geek- video game designer/programmer. Yes, you heard me. And I wanna go to USC for all of those!

Go Trojans! :P

I had multiple ideas of dream careers myself. They are:
1-If in some miracle, I get discovered, maybe, just maybe, I can get famous. I'm not too bad with my develo[ing talent in music, and I'm looking to get even better.
Of course, there's no shot in hell at that happening.
2-If the 1st one doesn't happen, I happen to have a manga that I work on. I really like it's turn out, and-if it's good enough-maybe I'll be the next Takahashi, who knows.
Once again, no shot in hell.
3-Well....I've been looking to get involoved in visual arts. Maybe I'll do graphics design for a video game, show, or something.
No shot at that, of course.
4-If none of the 1st 3 work, which they probably won't, I'll just settle for being an anime art teacher or something.

Sadly, I have no shot in bloody hell at achieving any of this, since I'm such a lazy idiot. But, one can always dream, you know.

An author. It has to be the millionth time I've said it, but hey. I just turned 13 today and, guess what? For the last years of my life I've wanted to become different things, and each year or month I'd lose an interest. But one interested stayed with me, throughout my whole life up until now: Story telling. Most of OB sees my RPing, which is different from my writing, but I swore to myself that if I get older (like... 50-70 or something) and I've failed to get anything published, I'd kill myself. Seriously. I want nothing more, not money, not a great life, not a good house, nothing more than a simple story published like so many other great authors that has my name on it. I've had poems published in short kids books and short story books, but no, do you think I'd settle for that? You're wrong. I won't. I'll only settle for one name, one author on a book: mine.

As you can see, I want this more than anything I've ever known. My English teacher reckon's I should get started now, and I take her word (why not? She's got a degree in English and something else, but whatever). A lot of people don't believe me when I say I'm not going to do anything else, but if I believe this, then why won't they? I swear it, I want to be nothing more. Writing it my life.

AMEN!

Yes, I think I saw a similar thread months ago. Anyways, I'd really like to finish a doctoral degree (is that what they call it?) and get my work published in an international scientific journal.

Delusions aside, a career in advertising/animation would be nice.

Love and Peace!

Many of you are out of high school so you can post on your experiences since then and what you thought you'd be doing back when you were still in high school.

For those of you not out of high school yet, where do you see yourselves going, and what do you see yourselves doing after it? What colleges are you looking at, if any? Is it near your house or will you be moving? Are you paying for college or are you going to mooch off your parents? And, once in college, what are you thinking you'll study? Presumably your major will be related to the career you're planning on pursuing.

If you're out of high school already, like I said above, talk about what you thought you'd be doing, and then what you actually are doing or have done.

This isn't a "what do you want to be" thread, because I'm trying to be realistic. No "moving to Japan to become a famous manga author" or other such nonsensical dreams, please.

I'm a freshman in highschool, and I don't really see myself going to colllege. I'm going to work in the field of comedy. I have great ideas for comedic media, but starting out I see myself doing stand-up. It's what I love to do, and judging from my friends reactions I'm good, too. I just hope my mom doesn't freak out.

Well, I've been out of highschool for a good...7 months now. I started University in september doing Archaeology and Ancient history. I've just finished the last exam for this semester and I'm getting prepared for the new modules starting next week.

So far uni life has been pretty good. It took a bit of getting used to, let me tell you that. It's one hell of a different from the relative saftey and structure of highschool. I've met some really great people though, and I hope to go on to do my masters degree at the end of these three years and get some experience in the field over the summer too ^_^

My life after high school has been a roller coaster. I graduated high school over 10 years ago and college shortly after that. I took classes at the local community college my entire Junior and Senior years in school instead of the classes at the high school. I got married in 1995 too. Thinking back to that time I remember having huge plans for what I would be doing. I figured that my husband and I would be in our careers, start our family when I was 26, have a couple of kids and we would live happily ever after.

Needless to say life had different plans for us. I was 6 years into my career in veterinary medicine when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). I tried to continue working but soon the physical pain became too much for me to continue working. I had to leave the career I loved because of a disease that my own body was doing to itself. Also because of the medicine I have to take to control the disease and the disease itself, my husband and I decided it wouldn't be good for us to have kids. RA has been know to get twice as bad after a woman has a baby. If I can't even continue working how could I take care of a child? And if I get worse after having a baby I will probably not be able to take care of myself. The risk is too high.

I had thought by this time in my life I would have 2 kids and a great career. In reality I am on disability with no kids. Hey, life is what you make it. I have always loved writing and now I have time to follow that passion. I am now in pursuit of my next career of freelance writing. The flexibility in my schedule gives me the opportunity to work when I feel good. There is always a silver lining. :D

Panda...I just wanna say I really admire your attitude. Too many people in life focus on the negative sides of things, so its nice to hear people with a positive outlook. ^_^

Well, right now I'm taking two years in community college because I wanted a nice transition from High School to the University. As soon as I get my Biology degree, I'm headed to Rutgers to major in Biochemistry. My goal is to go as far as a Ph.D in Genetic research, and work for one of the many pharma. companies that litter New Jersey. lol. I do have to say, however, I'm starting to get more interested in subjects like Ancient History and Philosophy, so there may be some change in the future. But I am going to finish out my degree in community college, and make a final choice once I get to Rutgers U. Whatever I find myself more happy and content with, is what I'm going to choose. Money be damned. ^_^

I'm currently a sophmore in high school. Since there's a community college I'll attend that for two years to get basic education done with. Afterwards I'm going to go to San Fransisco and attend The Academy of Art College.
I chose this college because basiclly becuase it's the only college that I saw that offers Game Design and Graphic Design which are the two area's a want to major in. I'll probably spend enoguh time there to get my Bachelors Degree.

Afterwards I plan on working for some sort of game company, preferrably Capcom or Square-Enix. Your basic game lovers plan I believe.

Like doukeshi, I've been out of high school for at least 7, or 7 1/2 months, and right now, I'm on a well deserved break from school. Even though I'm out of school, I miss it terribly, and I will be going to school starting in the summer. But right now I'm working at a social security office getting paid pretty well for a guy my age (18).:p

My original plan was to go to an out-of-state university and double-major in both Theater, and Photography, seeing though my passion at the time, was both acting, and taking pictures. But when I got out of high school and began to work, and travel, I thought that it could wait. But now I am so ready to get back into the "learning environment". The only difference now is that I've came back to my photographical roots, and I'm considerin going to an art school instead...
