Discuss Mobile Suit Gundam: The tone of war. [M-VL]

It is Cosmic Century 99, the earth is seemingly at peace, as are the colonies. Technology development has skyrocketed with multiple advances, though militaristic technology has become a faded memory due to the fact that human kind has become pacifistic. An interesting technological advancement that has come about is the Molecular Regeneration, this allows any mechanical being to restore itself to full operational capabilities, but the colonies are not able to use this ability for the regular maintenance and therefore have the option of landing on earth or having earth send a repair ship whose crew would consist of colony repair crews. Though most colonies use the repair crews from earth, a few colonies, mainly the ones closer to earth will land in the designated areas. Those areas consist of a portion of China, Russia, North America, and Australia.

However, this peace has been a falsehood, a small number of colony governments have banded together and have begun plotting on requesting that the earth recognizes these colonies as independent nations and that trade be conducted by their policies, and not by earth, so in a nutshell, those colony governments want more money. These colonies sent ambassadors to earth, who demanded the following terms.

-Earth recognize the following colonies as independent nations: Constellations 12-20.

-Trade be conducted by the previous mentioned colonies? trading policies.

-The colonies should have the right to make their own military for self-defense.

However, the officials of earth merely stated that these terms were unacceptable and the ambassadors were told to tell their bosses that these terms would not be met and that if these kind of actions continued, a trade embargo would be imposed on all 8 colonies and the officials would be incarcerated and new people would replace them.

Upon returning to their own colony, the ambassadors gave the response from Earth, this in turn set the stage for the colonies to start hording all sorts of odd things such as abandoned ships and decommissioned mobile suits. This in turn prompted Earth to start an investigation, they sent eight investigation teams to the colonies. The eight teams though were met not with respect or courtesy, instead they were shunned and harassed by the colonists. When the teams went to speak with each colony?s government officials, they were led into a room that suddenly exploded, all at the same time on the same day. This sent earth?s government into a panic, the officials declared that all Earth people return and stay away from those colonies.

The following day, those colonies broadcasted to all of the colonies and Earth that they were declaring war upon them and that they would conduct this war with their Mobile Suits. Unfortunately, Earth was not prepared for this because Mobile suits had not even been made use of as war machines, they?d been used as construction units. These combat mobile suits began attacking ships heading back towards earth, killing hundreds of people. But the carnage did not stop there, those same colonies sent an entire fleet of warships to earth, which in turn released massive numbers of Mobile suits on earth and they destroyed everything. The ECUN finally decided to make a military branch which decided to bring in any and all remaining Mobile suits from construction companies and overhauled them so they were combat usable, and for a time that idea worked but then newer types of Mobile suits were invented by the enemy, who had decided to call themselves the ?Liberation Militia of the Colonies,? or the LMC.

When the ECUN?s mobile suits were finished with their overhauls, they were immediately dispatched into combat. This unfortunately was a fatal mistake because the LMC?s combat made suits swiftly destroyed all of the ECUN mobile suits in a single battle, the LMC was simply too powerful because they held a few of the richest mines of Lunar Titanium, one of them being located on the Mars colony. The only mine that was open for the ECUN was the mine located on the moon and even then, getting the alloy back in forth to Earth was a gauntlet. Finally, when enough alloy had been retrieved from the moon the ECUN began construction on two prototype suits they were designed for both space and land combat situations. Both were made with the latest weaponry that could be made, but what the scientists that created these suits failed to mention to the ECUN technicians was that these suits had designs to get upgrades that could increase their power outputs and such. Once the frames had been completed the armor plating was added and these suits were dubbed as Gundams. The first unit was developed with the ability to separate and the cockpit was also a plane which was called a Core Booster, this plane was made for both Earth and Space combat. The second unit was created with higher output beam rifles which took full usage of the Variable Speed Beam system, the rifles in turn were called Variable Speed Beam Rifles, the first unit also had weapons similar to this but they were standardized for that suit alone. But these mobile suits have not been commissioned yet, but there have been mass produced versions of the first unit gundam. These suits are also prototypes but simulations have shown that their performance capacity are extraordinary. Once all the performance tests had been completed the government decided they should look for pilot candidates. The candidates soon passed their tests and began to pilot the gundams, but they were soon informed that there was one last test; they had to have one space flight in the vicinity of Constellation 1. Unfortunately the LMC has discovered this and has set up an attack on the colony and the mobile suits themselves.
