Biggest Disapointment-Game

I think my biggest Disapointment in the software area was Need for Speed Underground. I LOVED NFS:HP2 and was really hoping for another along that line. Now that Underground outsold all of the previous Need For Speeds, we'll probably never see another like it. At least we have Burnout 3.

Dissapointment games...Well, I'd have to say that it would be Final Fantasy X-2. Everyone was hyping it up to be this amazing RPG with a story better than FFX, and it was really just...meh. The dressphere system was immensly unbalanced (you could have a party of three warriors and mash X the whole time, and win every battle). The story was weak, most of it wasn't even very understandable until about halfway through the game, and the ending was...dissapointing to say the least. Yes, it looked good, but if good graphics made great games, then Ninja Gaiden would be the greatest game ever made. Still, though, this game was incredibly overrated and was plain dissapointing for me.
Yes, it looked good, but if good graphics made great games, then Ninja Gaiden would be the greatest game ever made.
Well, that's not the best example you could use, as it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Ninja Gaiden may very well be the greatest game ever made.

Anyway, if I had a penny for every game that's disappointed me, then, um... I might have enough money to buy a used copy of Pokémon Channel.

The first game that comes to mind would be the PlayStation port of the heavily underrated Street Fighter: The Movie. Sure, the concept is stupid. It's a game based on a bad movie based on a good game, but at least the arcade original was fun. It played just like any other Street Fighter, with cool super moves and nicely animated, realistic characters and backdrops. The special effects used, like the flaming hurricane kick from Akuma, mixed well with the rest of the game. The soundtrack was also top-notch. When I read the game would be coming to Sony's 32-bit console, I got excited, but as soon as I played it I realized the many flaws it had. The characters looked like cardboard cutouts of the original with limited animation. The game also played significantly slower, and the special effects looked more like kid-colored fireballs than computer animation. The soundtrack was still kept intact, which means I now use the disc as a music CD from time to time. No, I'm not kidding.

Another disappointment would be Super Mario Sunshine, for the GameCube. The game wasn't bad, but it certainly was a far cry from the revolutionary Mario games we're used to every generation. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and Super Mario 64... all these games continually redefined the 2D platform genre. Not the case with Sunshine. First of all, the game plays too much like its N64 predecessor, which might still be great if it weren't for the fact that 6-year-old camera issues still weren't solved, and that the game's levels weren't as varied or gameplay-friendly as SM64. The whole thing felt more like Majora's Mask to Ocarina of Time... a decent sidequest, and nothing more.

Final Fantasy 8 is the biggest dissapoinment of a game that I have seen, Sure the graphics were decent (For 99) but I severly disliked the battle system because it removed most of the fun out of battles from previous games. FF8s story was poor to say the least and characters were just so hateable. If FF8 was not released then the title of best RPG of 1999 would most likely be given to Suikoden 2 which FF8 stole the limelight from because Suiko was released two weeks before FF8.

Biggest disappointment this year? Probably Fable for X-Box. That game just tried to do too much at one time. Kinda sad really, it really was set up to be one of the best RPG's I've played in a long time. It was pretty decent, just...it fell short. Remember, a game can be great and disappointing at the same time. This, was the case with Fable. It was a good game at it's bare bones...but when you think of all the hype and promised features...It fails miserably.

StarFox Adventures for the GameCube would be my choice. I had high expectations and thought it was going to be a neat Zelda-esque StarFox game. Turns out it was closer to DK64, endless collecting. Bleh. Not to mention the A.I., it was way too easy. You'd be ambushed by 9 guys, and one would attack while the rest stood there.

DMC2 was relatively dissapointing as well.

a game thats greatly disappointing would have to be game cube P.N. 03. the graphics where sweet, the game play thats ify i did'nt like it, and what it had of a story line SUCKED. affter beting the game it took me three seconds to make a better story that i like to call P.N. 03. i was also sad when i read in a magazen the P.N. 03 was go to be one of the games that get more people in to game gube. that would be along with resident evil 4 witch is most likely going to have more story then P.N. 03.

Super Mario Sunshine is probably one of the biggest disappointments. Sunshine is a good game, but, doesn't live to the other Mario games. Sunshine just didn't feel like a Mario game, it just felt like another platform game.

Also, the Bouncer for the PS2 was another disappointment. This game had the potential to be a classic for the PS2. But, it was all graphics, but, not much else. It's just a showcase for the PS2's graphic capabilites. The game could have been a lot longer, and more challenging. I beat the entire game in only an hour and half. So, the game didn't have any replay value. Lastly, you couldn't have co-op in the story mode, which was weak. This is an example that you need more than graphics, to make a great game.

FullMetal Alchemist T_T Argh, it's so bad. Hopefully the 2nd game will be better... The Stand Alone Complex game was a let down as well ~_~ but at least it was better than the first game. Fable was... meh *shrugs* I guess it's not horrible, but I want the time back that I wasted on it ~_~ In my opinion, Devil May Cry 2 doesn't even exist XD *laughs* Suikoden IV is also really disappointing T_T so far anyway... I'm still gonna play it a bit and give it a chance... (Suikoden III was a bit disappointing as well, but Yuber was pretty cool, so I tolerated it ^^; ) Galerians : Ash was sort of okay... but I only played it obsessively cause I'm such a fangirl.

I sort of like Drakengard, but it's got issues... though I'm not sure I'd say I was disappointed with it or not?

Randomly, some of the best games I've played include (but aren't limited to) Suikoden II, Resident Evil 4, Persona (all of them XD), and...erhm... Dragon Force? *dies*

Metal Gear Solid 2: The Sons of Liberty. What a blast I had... for 12 goddamn hours, minus about 2 hours for cutscenes...hmm...10 hours of Metal Gear bliss? NO! I needed more! The story isn't THAT bad, people. It won't appeal to a 12-year old, thats for sure, but it got convuluted(sp?) like crazy towards the end. Maybe it seemed convuluted because I was up at 4:30 in the morning with aboout 5 hours of sleep the night before.

Oh well, MGS2:TSOL is pretty good, but way too short and way too screwy in the story department.

Surprisingly, to me FFX-2 wasn't a disappointment at all, because I already knew its downsides (like the lack of a consistent plot and lame music (except the two main themes)) when I bought it, which helped me enjoy the good sides (like the positive attitude and hilarious humor).

My biggest disappointment was Unlimited Saga. It taught me not to buy games I've heard nothing about. I bought it in a naive belief that it would be at least a decent RPG, having been made by Square Enix and all, and the idea seemed quite intriguing with seven different heroes and plotlines that merge near the end. How wrong I was...

Okay, I have to admit that I have played it less than ten hours, and with only one hero, but the system is just so awful and confusing and unfair, and the characters are shallow and stereotypical, and the graphics suck major arse! I couldn't believe they would make such games like that in these modern times...

ONLY good side in buying the game is that I got FFX-2: Eternal Calm along with it. It soon cleared out to me why it was included... *sulk* Those were the sixty euros I never get back...

I never bought final fantasy X-2 because I found the first game such a dissapointment. I couldn't get in to it at all mainly because I just didnt like the characters, some of them were downright annoying.

The graphics were beutiful and admittedly i got quite far into the game but there just wasnt eough to the story to make me want to carry on. the best thing about it was the blitz ball, that was pretty cool.

Yeah, StarFox Adventures would probably be my second choice. Ugh, was that game ever terrible. However, once I thought about it, I wasn't too surprised that this horrible game was what Rare churned out, because of my top choice for most disappointing game...

My first choice is Donkey Kong 64. I expected this game to at least be very good. I liked Banjo-Kazooie, because even though there was some annoying collecting in the game, most of the collecting had a nice hook to it like in Super Mario 64. But Donkey Kong 64 was just blah. Practically the whole game is centered around collecting a bunch of crap, and you have to constantly switch characters so that they can collect their crap, too. The worst part is that certain objectives are rehashed in some levels, and some bosses are rehashed.

The only redeeming factor of DK64 is the final boss battle, which is admittedly a clever and fantastic boss fight. Doesn't make up for the game as a whole, however.

Oh, and I wasn't disappointed with MGS2 in the least. But that's probably because I played it after all of the hype and whatever died down. Bizarre and incoherent as it was, I liked the story, and the gameplay was really good.
DMC2 was relatively dissapointing as well.
Actually, I thought the first DMC was kinda disappointing. I've always found that franchise to be somewhat overrated, or at least, the first game anyway. I haven't played the sequels (due to the fact that I only slightly enjoyed the original).

I think my biggest disappointment would have to be Enter the Matrix.

Here you have an awesome film property with plenty of potential for a video game. And then you have an end product that is extremely rushed, unbalanced and uninspired. There are just so many things the game could have done - the combat could have blown every other game out of the water, but it didn't. It's a shame that it was an "official" game with actual filmed footage, because I think it's really a big blot on that whole franchise in terms of the play experience.

So I'd have to say that Enter the Matrix has been my absolute biggest disappointment as far as games go.

Donkey Kong 64 and Star Fox Adventures would have to come close though. SFA was by no means a total bomb of a game, I mean, it was better than a lot of the tripe that third parties put out each year. But for Rare's own standards, it was really awful. It felt lazy, despite the fact that so much attention had been paid to graphics and sound. The actual gameplay was so very repetitive and uninspired, which was a big disappointment.

And DK64...where to begin? The collection aspect became ridiculous and it didn't even feel as fun as the DKC games. It just lots a lot of its charm and appeal, while simultaneously adding various frustrating elements. I really didn't enjoy it and I found it to be an overly-complex and messy experience.

For me it has to be The Getaway, it was in development for a real long time and had a LOT of hype around it, yet when it finally got released and I got to play it.......absolutely terrible, I was so disappointed

Hm, I think the rpg that I was the most disappointed in was the Bouncer. Someone had recomended it to me, and I thought I would give it a try since it was an older game and was hecka cheap. Well I defeated the game in six hours, and I was very mad at how easy the game was and at how messy the story plot was.

Knights of the Old Republic was an amazing rpg. Probably me 2nd favorite, next the Harvest Moon series. But KOTOR II, was disappointing. The lightsaber/weapon modifications rocked as did the new color crystals you could use. The story-line didn't have the depth and magic it had in the first. I know they were done by different developers, but they should have stuck with the original crew...The end, at least the light side version, was very disappointing...

Warcraft III was a flawed game from the start, the storyline was seemingly alright, but Blizzard kept pushing back and pushing back the release date for so long. I figured to balance it out like Starcraft, yet they had to patch WCIII 5 million times, and I just lost my love for competitive play. Guess I have to stick to the tower defense maps and rpgs.

Another dissapointment game is The Simpsons Hit and Run, Why do people love it so much? I found that it was massivly overrated and wasn't even worth the 70% it has been given. Don't they know it is just one of those Grand Theft Auto clones that doesn't even attempt to become different to that excellent game. It is practicully a PG-Rated Grand Theft Auto minus killing, weapons and repetitive as hell missions. It is actually not even good for 1 and a half to two hours of gameplay because once you beat the first three levels it is no fun anymore because the only reason you would want to continue is to get to the actually well-designed seventh level but that is all.

Goldeneye Rouge Agent. It's not terrible, or really bad persay--but it's a huge let down and a cheap cash in on the name of a great game. First off, it plays nothing like the original Goldeneye. It a cheap Halo wanna be with terrible AI, shoddy unresponsive controls, bad aiming, lame voice acting, and very outdated bland repetitive graphics. It's not bad, in the sense that there is still some fun to be had, just very little of it and the game itself if very mediocre. EA needs to be beaten down with baseball bats for playing up to the fans of the original Goldeneye and attempting to use it's name to get sales. Rot in hell EA!

Smackdown! vs. Raw. Well, unless you're a wrestling fan or at least play the Smackdown! games you'd know why Smackdown! vs. Raw is so bad. Especially if you've played it predecessor Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain. They ruined the CAW, took out many moves and some features, added very badly done and unneeded voice overs, terrible AI, no selling of moves, the story mode was more linear, couldn't edit rosters in story mode or add CAWs in to season unless you were actually playing as them, no legends or Kurt Angle in story mode, the online mode was half assed garbage only utilizing two of the many match types actually in the game, only two players at a time in a match online, options aren't adjustable online, not all arenas were available to use online, the roster was terrible, etc. I could go on and on and on. Smackdown! vs. Raw isn't only a disapointment but it's one of the worse wrestling games I've played.

Hmm...I myself would have to say Halo 2.

Horrible, horrible game. One of the most anticipated games for me in a long time for console....and I was let down. :-(

The story...blegh. Boring. Bland. Plain. There are many other words I can say to express my vies more. So many things were left wide open that shouldn't have been. Such as
how did the Flood get released on that thingy that was floating in that planets atmoshpere?
Boring storyline. This is the ONLY game that I ever fell asleep while playing, not a single game has ever done that.

The graphics....horrid. For a game in development for so long, I was expecting much better. Jagged edges all over in cut scenes just took my love for the graphics I was hoping away. How long was it in development? How long was the release date postpone? Shouldn't be there.

I was quite happy that I actually beat the game though. I owed it to myself to beat it since the first is my all time favorite game. I can at least tell myself that I beat the game and never touch it again probably.

I don't know. . a lot of you actually put down quite a few games that came to mind when I was thinking about reading this thread. . oh well. I am going to use a scale from 1 - 5 to say how dissapointed I was:

Star Fox Adventures - Way too easy. . I wanted a challenge!! Been discussed enough by others.
--Dissapointment rating: 5

Fable - Once again, this was a way too easy game! I expected some challenges, and the only time I got it, was when I was totally surrounded by enemies, and even then, it wasn't THAT difficult to get away. If anything, when I was trying to get points in magic, it was just difficult to keep potions to keep me going. I wasn't all that impressed with the whole 'choose your path thing' and actually started to get away from being good, so that I could get a lot of money to buy houses and stuff that were for sale. The end boss of the game -- easier then anything I could have thought of. The arena was pretty fun, but I missed picking up some stuff while I was in there, and couldn't get back in to the place. It would have been nice if I could have revisited that area, but oh well. The game was way too hyped, way too short, way too easy, and WAY not worth the trade-in credit I used for it! ^_^
--Dissapointment raiting: 5

Halo 2 - I echo Zeta with his concerns. I wasn't hugely impressed with the first Halo though. If anything, it was the first multiplayer game that not only my friends, but my family got into. We would have Halo nights, where we would all just head to my brother's appt. and hang out the whole night. It was a game that would lead to shout matches, but what game doesn't? Anyways. . after playing the first game, I was left wanting more. So, I read the books! Ok, now I was hyped about the second game. . .and have been left wanting more, and finding that NONE of my questions were clearly answered. . *sighs* Plus, the single-player game was short, they didn't have any, but two, of the original maps (Tombstone, with Shotguns anyone?). . oh well. . Now, I have to wait three years for Halo 3.
--Dissapointment rating: 3 (because of multiplayer, ONLY)

Goldeneye 2 - Once again, someone has already mentioned this game, but I feel like it deserves special recognition again. I was horribly alarmed at the similarities this game and Goldeneye DIDN'T share! This game's controlls were so horrible, and the story, wihle I'm sure some may have liked it, really got on my nerves fast. The Goldeneye was more of a nussance to have to use, instead of being one of those gadgets that you go back to for the fun of it. Level design really didn't do anything for me, and the weapons weren't all that impressive either. This game could have really been something, but it's that anti-Midas touch that I suppose EA is inflicting on yet another game (ok, maybe they really didn't have that much to do with it). . Ughhh. . I couldn't even finish this game, and no matter how bad a game is, I usually finish it. I just couldn't with this.
--Dissapointemt rating: 6 (yes, a six!)

Well, those are four of my bigger dissapointing games. I mention Star Fox, only because I see the game every day at work, and just shudder with how much of a waste of money that game turned out to be.

I loved Halo 2 and Fable! Don't think of what isn't there, think of what IS there!

The biggest dissapointment for me was a game I played for the first time an hour ago. Splinter Cell. The controls are unresponsive, the stealth is stupidly over used and its way to easy to be sent to the beginning of a level! Worst of all, trying to use your gun is like taking a sword and fighting six people blindfolded. You just can't see. Im glad it was my friends game and I didn't buy it like I was planning.

There isn't anything there though. :-p

Personally, I find if you make a game leaning towards multiplayer only on a console is pretty stupid. 1) you have to pay for online play. 2) many parents will not give their credit cards out 3) People just plain hate console games for online play.

I myself find it lame to pay for Live, and my mom won't give her credit card out to anyone anyways. And I also loathe console games online. I say wait for it to come out on the computer and play online for free. Now if they spent just as much time on single player as on multiplayer, then I wouldn't be complaining.

Um... I don't even play it online. I do play multiplayer at home with my friends though because its fun. I liked the single player, and the graphics were AWESOME! But this isn't a Halo 2 thread.....

Another big dissapointment must be known. Im probably going to be hurt for this but... Xenosaga. The first level seemed to be cool, though the combat was quite repetitive. After that I walked around the stupid ship for an hour then I was killed by an invincible monster and was sent to the beggining. I stopped playing.
