Character Crossovers

Many people have mentioned that CLAMP often use the same characters in more than one anime.

Personally I've only seen this with Tokyo Babylon and X.

I think it's fine so long as the characters suit the anime - which for TB/X it does.
For me it gives the creator the opportunity to include a secondary character and imply they have a past without the need to explain it and give more screen time to other characters.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of more and what you think of the concept - do you like it, would you like to see more of it etc?

It's hard for me to remember where else this occurs, outside of the CLAMP universe. That having been said, it's highly possible that you could find some crossovers in the various anime based on works by Leiji Matsumoto. As I'm far from being a Matsumoto expert, I can't really elaborate on this, but someone else might be able to. ^_^;;

Another upcoming CLAMP crossover to watch for is Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, based on a manga that re-casts the main characters of Cardcaptor Sakura and also includes a huge variety of cameos (most notably from the leads of Xxxholic).

I think crossover are cool but only to certain line, i think they should do anime that involve people from gundam wing, Dragonballz and tenchi. Excel Saga kinda involved characters from it's follow off serie Poey Poey Poem, which involves one of the main characters and the dirictor form excel Saga.

I've seen some crossover work by the great Leji Matsumoto-Sama.
In "Galaxy Exspress 999" for exsample had Toshiro, Queen Esmereldas, and of course the man himself Captain Harlock. :D His entrance was just so cool too. Tetsuo was being beat up by a machine man at a bar, and Harlock walked in. The entire bar froze. Harlock grabbed the machine man, breaking his hand. "Barkeep." He said. "Milk please." The barman gave him the milk, and Harlock popped it open, forceing down the machine man's throat to drink it, and rust from the inside.
He was also in "Adiu Galaxy Exspress 999" as well.
In "The Harlock Saga", The Yamato has a short guest shot at the very end.
What else..he had guest shots in "Queen Emeraldas", "DNA Sites 99.9", "Cosmo Warrior Zero", and get this. In the "Galaxy Exspress 999" manga, there was a sean where The Arcadia and The Yamato were side-by-side, flying together to a distant world. How cool is that? :wigout:
Matsumoto-Sama does that alot with his animes and mangas. It's a nice touch if you ask me.
P.S. Awww..Don't feel that way Duoikari. I like you. :)

Well, Wild Adapter's main chara Kubota and Tokitoh are also used in another manga; Executive Commitie(sp?)

Those aren't really anime, since they were never animated (too many nasty bits I guess) but it's the only one I currently know

Hey! You've read Wild Adapter? Apparently it was turned into a music video (?) or something, but never an actual anime--which kind of sucks, given that a Wild Adapter TV series or OVA would kick so much ***.

That's a pretty good example, actually. Can't believe I didn't think of it myself. *slaps forehead* :p
i'm pretty sure that most anime's have a character called either akira or sho or something similar.

crossovers rule. could you imagine nambeshin in the gundam or dragonball universes?
That's not really a "crossover," though... not unless they're the exact same Akira, at any rate. :animeswea

Oh, I just remembered a pretty good one. Genshiken is a series about a group of Japanese otaku, several of whom are obsessed with an anime called Kujibiki Unbalance. The full Kujibiki Unbalance opening is shown once or twice during Genshiken, as are brief excerpts from the show itself. Genshiken's cast can often be found discussing/hashing over the finer points of the series.

The creators of Genshiken actually made three episodes of Kujibiki Unbalance, and packaged them with the Japanese Genshiken DVDs as OVAs. Of course this means that although Kujibiki Unbalance was supposed to be a twenty-six episode show, only episodes 1, 3 and 26 (or something like that) actually exist. But I think it qualifies as a pretty unique crossover anyway. :animesmil
