Lord Rannos
I just have been looking through some Adventure Inn threads, and I noticed one thing in particular: At least 5 within the last few weeks have been closed on the basis of not having a rating. Now, I know there needs to be a rating, but you shouldn't have to close the thread because it doesn't have one; especially if several people have already signed up. Not to be disrespectful or anything, but couldn't Arcadia (or whoever closes it) just PM the starter asking them to change their title to include a rating? If this is already how it is done, however, I apologize for my ignorance and wasting your time.
ArunueShekamari
Members cannot change titles anymore. The mod would have to. And personally, I'm glad the Mods are cracking down. It's a good way to reinforce reading the rules.
Retribution
I don't understand why the starter of the topic can't change the title of the thread. I mean, it would save Arcadia some work of going through, locking threads, kicking butt and taking names. But yeah, it is a good way to reinforce the rules by cracking down. Shinmaru
Yeah, members can't change thread titles. However, I don't think it's that harsh at all, really. All you would have to do in that sort of situation is to PM Arcadia, inform her about what rating you'd like for your RPG, and she can edit the title and re-open the thread. Threads that are closed don't have to stay closed forever, after all. That way if a lot of people have already signed up for the RPG it won't have to be halted because of a simple lapse of memory, or whatever. It takes a bit more initiative from both members and mods, but I think it's a decent system. It doesn't take a lot of time at all for a mod to edit a thread title (I edit them occasionally in Play It), so it's hardly an inconvenience, or anything. Charles
Wait a moment. Wasn't there in fact an announcement made prior to and during the implementation of the ratings system that described how threads lacking ratings would be closed? It's not as if this should come as a surprise to anyone. I've barely had access to the site within the past couple months and even I'm aware of the repercussions for not including a thread rating. Who's being harsh again? Bah.

There's a good reason why the ratings are inforced..and it's been in the making for a very long time now. The modding team of the OB, and the administrators, gave the boards repeated warning before the final fist was thrown. I'm glad to see that the OB mods and admins threw that fist. It's really helped the RP area muchly, in the sense of managing out-of-control RPs.
James
The thing is, I think it's too much to ask to have Moderators PMing people, receiving the approprate ratings and then changing the thread title itself. There are too many threads for that and many members either take a long time to respond, or don't respond at all. So, closures are necessary. Basically, if you start a thread and it gets closed due to lack of a title, it won't really kill you to re-post the thread. All you have to do is copy and paste all your text from the first thread - simple as that. ^_^
Baron Samedi
Just as another perspective to think about, I know that many people, no matter what kinds of linkage are sent their way, steadfastly refuse to read the Rules. I guess that could account for the amounts of threads lacking ratings. I just wonder if there could be another way to re-enforce the message about thread ratings. Perhaps in the Arena, the Reply box should have different text? Or an Alert could come up [simlar to PMs] when you go to post a thread? I don't know, just some ideas.
Morpheus
I think it would be nice if there is a dropdown list of possible ratings and you must choose one in the arena.

Although I must admit, thread ratings have been much less of a problem than I had originally thought -- most people, maybe 95%, are doing the right thing each time. So the message is getting through, as a result of heavy Moderator activity, no doubt.
