Slowly, Cat's breathing returned to normal. His eyes wandered back down to the ground, looking about his hiding place. It was darker than it was outside without the moonlight, but he could see the sky through an empty window next to where he was slumped on the floor. Everything was still cold concrete, with nails and boards strewn across the ground.

Cat's stomach growled and he looked down at the few things he had risked his life to steal. There was a small bag of crackers, a bottle of water, and lighter to keep him company. Without hesitation, he opened up the crackers and munched on them as he watched the milky black sky cloud over. Not his best day, but it deffinately wasn't the worst.

Joshua's breath came slowly as his eyelids became heavier and slid down over his brown eyes. Someone his him in the back of the head. "Wake up, kid!" an older boy yelled at him, grinning. Joshua moaned. "Praige..." another boy said, "you don't look so well." The boy looked concerned. "I'm fine, just tired," Joshua snapped at him in a voice that seemed too deep to fit him. The boy nodded and took a long drag on his ciggeret. "I'm gunna take a walk," he mentioned, standing up from his seat in the dirty, loud apartment. Including Joshua, there were five boys living there. They only came back to the apartment to sleep, although sometimes they did that on the street like everything else they did.
Joshua could still here the poker game going on between three of the other four boys from outside, three floors down.
Joshua sighed deeply and brushed his blonde hair out of his eyes. It was getting long and he needed to trim it again. Then again, his sense of 'triming' was taking a knife to his hair.
He sneered and walked slowly down the dark street. He estimated it was about 3 Am. Joshua often took walks when he couldn't sleep at night because of the other boys or when he was angry and had no one to take it out on. He'd beat up one of the boys in his group once. Afterwards, he got a bad beating from David, the oldest of the group and sort of like the leader. He cared for them all equally and gave them all the same punishment for fighting within themselfs and the same rewards for one thing or another.
Joshua didn't want to think. He was too tired to get mad, which is saying something. He just stared at his feet as he dragged his feet in the fresh rain water on the concreat. The air was still damp and it woke him up slightly.......slightly.

Caitlin counted the money and put it in her pocket. This customer had been nicer and more generous than the usual creeps she met in her job, but he was still the same as the rest of them.

"Alone and lonely/sleepy but not sleeping/creepiest of the creepy."

She wasn't sure where she had read the quote. It was from a song, or a poem, or something. But it fit for the time, so she didn't give it much thought. She looked over the streets that she had to walk again. There were rain puddles everywhere, since it had just rained. (Her customer had even let her stay for a little longer, until the rain stopped. No charge to him, of course.) Unlike alot of people in the city, though, Caitlin had a place to call home that wasn't made out of cardboard. She started walking, and covered herself up with her jacket. Even a slight breeze was enough to give her a chill with what she was wearing underneath. A car that was driving without headlights was slowly driving down the street. She let go of her jacket, so that it could hang open. Letting them know what she was. The car stopped next to her, and she got into the passenger seat. As they were driving, she spotted a boy that looked like he was around the same age as she was. he had a very interesting face, but she didn't get to see it for much longer since her new customer made a turn. A few apartments down, he stopped the car. She got out, and followed him inside. After they discussed the amount of her pay, Caitlin came on like some sort of machine. She started smiling, and talking to the man like they were very good friends. He took off his jacket, and started kissing and undressing her at the same time. Like most of her other customers, Caitlin could tell that she was going to have to fake it.

Joshua made a groan deep in his throat. His momentary awakening had warn off and he was practically sleep walking. "My head..." He muttered. He'd had a headache for the past month or so. of course, it wasn't constant. But it seemed so.
Joshua started to breath hard and his face was hot, even though it was 20 degrees out. Joshua fell forward and passed out on the wet cement.

"He's been out for how long?"
"Sence last night."
"Open a window, It's too hot in here."
"Damnitt, SHUT UP!"

Joshua moaned and clenched his teeth. "Will you just shut up!?!" he yelled, subconsiounsly. David looked away from the boy he had by the shirt collor and looked at Joshua. "You alright kid?" he asked. Joshua moaned, sitting up. "Jesus, I'm fucking fine!" Joshua replied in his usual tone. "Well, at least we know he's not delusional," Sphen, the youngest of the group replied. He had a knack for not watching what he said. Joshua jumped up from the couch he was laying on and punched Sphen in the jaw. David imediatly slugged Joshua in the back of the head.
Joshua spun around and clenched his teeth, stopping himself from raising his fist. He knew better.
Joshua sighed, calming down from staring into David's eyes. David always calmed him down.
Joshua's knees buckled and he passed out again, collapsing on the floor.

"That's alright, kid. You're sick. Rest."

OOC- *rolls her eyes* I put all David's words in black, so you can tell who's speaking when joshua is unconsious ^^ The other kid talking doesn't matter. and i'm not gunna go and name each one. Only david is important, maybe Sphen and maybe another one I'll name if I find it needed later. Ussually I'll refer to them as a group as 'the other boys' or such.

How much time passed, he couldn't say. But Cat sat in the dark construction sight, staring at the murky dark for well over an hour. At last, he stuffed what was left of his prize (half the water and the lighter) into his jacket and eased up off the floor. His rear hurt from sitting on the concrete, but he was used to it.

Outside wasn't much better. Water still dripped from the tops of city buildings, splattering unceremoniously onto the pavement. Cat walked in a daze, forgetting within five minutes to look for a place to sleep. He hardly noticed when rain water splashed his face, or when he ran headlong into someone walking the opposite direction.

Both of them stopped in a daze and looked wearily at the other. Jerk... Cat thought dully in the back of his mind. This thought was swept aside immediately as his eyes caught the glimmer of a badge coming around the corner. Instantly, he slammed himself behind a dark corner. Without thinking he pushed the other boy in as well.

Ignoring the stranger's surprise, Cat stood stock still. His heart raced as the cop walked by idly. Had he remained in the sidewalk, the officer probably wouldn't have even noticed him, but it was instinct. When the boy beside him started to say something, he slammed him in the gut with a fist, again without even thinking. His eyes were trained like lasers on the officer.

IC- Sphen coughed as the air was knocked out of him. Cat punched him again for good measure. Sphen tried to grab his arm and throw him, but he was thrown to the ground instead. Sphen moaned. He hated being beat up. By strangers or by his group, it pissed him off. Spen tried to get up, but was knocked back to the ground and Cat ran away.

"Pfft. Stupid kid," Cat muttered, even though he knew that Cat was probably older than him, "He just ran away." Sphen put his hands in his pockets. "........" He panted heavily and angrily. "You bitch...." he muttered, his knife and ciggerets missing.

Sphen slammed the apartment door shut. David was sitting on the couch beside Joshua, still sleeping. The other two boys had left. David drew his attention to Sphen. "What happened?" he asked in a caring yet superior tone. Sphen sneered......then, starting to use his head, sighed and told David that he got beaten by a stranger. David asked what he looked like. Sphen told him his apearence.

".....We'll find him." David said. "what?" Sphen asked, clearly thrown off. "I won't let him get away with hurting one of my boys." Sphen stood up. "he didn't hurt me, I'm fucking fine!!" David stood up and grabbed him by the collor. David was atleast a foot taller. "Listen, kid. you got beaten up and i won't stand for that. and you yell like that one more time and I'll beat you to a pulp,Jjoshua here is sick, you wake him up, you won't be happy." shen looked at the floor. "Besides," David said, letting go of Sphen, "Joshua's the one who's gunna help you find him."

If Cat had been the type to enjoy feeling superior, he would have smirked. Instead, he walked at a brisk pace down the damp sidewalk, glancing behind him every few seconds. He hated close calls almost as much as he hated people who gave his hiding spot away. He slid a finger across the newly aquired knife in his pocket and flipped it around in his hand. Taking out the ciggerets he had stolen as well, he glanced at them and tossed them to the soaked ground. As far as he was concerned, they did nothing but smell.

After a while Cat remembered about his attempt to find a sleeping space. A quick look around told him he was in the middle of a street of apartments. He would have looked for a better spot, but his legs were going numb in the cold. Without further thought, he curled up under the small porch of a random apartment. Drifting off, he started noticing little things around him. There was a termite hole in a beam across the porch, the car parked next to the sidewalk looked like it had been driven less than a few minutes ago...

Cat's eyes closed and his head rested on the wall behind him. Faintly, he could hear the dull sound of lust in the apartment above him. He should be awake by the time they're done, he thought...

Alex stood out back of the highschool, and lit a joint. She stared at the burning end a moment before she drew. The disgusting smoke went down into her lungs, and she breathed out. ?Damnit, I hate this shit.? She stayed there for a couple more minutes, and then threw the butt on the ground, grinding it into the pavement with her heel.

The girl yawned, and looked up into the pale blue sky. It was dim outside, and she knew she needed to get back home before Richard and his creeps found her there. Alex started walking, ducking down through a hole in the fence behind the building, and making for the alley.

When she got home, her parents weren?t there. The car was gone from the small driveway, and Alex got the mail. Going in the house, she picked out a letter with her name on it, leaving the rest on the counter. It was from a friend back at her old neighbor hood.

Dear Alex,

Hey, I?m really sorry to hear about your brother. I know how hard that can be. But you know you can always lean on me, so call, or write, whenever. Tell him get well soon for me!

Is that Richard kid still bothering you? If I was there I would come kick his sorry little butt. Heh, but you know that, don?t you? Alex, have you been able to stop smoking? I really wish you could find a way! Its so hard on me and Chelsea, and we wish there was something we could do to help. Anyway, Chels got asked to the dance by Bryan! Tell me who takes you, okay?

Kisses,
Emily

Alex re-read the letter, and then sighed. She picked up her pencil, and started to reply.

Dear Em,

Chris? getting better every day. He can get up and walk now, with help. The doctors say he won?t need a wheelchair, but he can?t play football for a couple more months.

Emily, I wish I could stop! Its so hard on mom and dad. The crap tastes horrible, but I can?t help it. I need it. I?m addicted. And Richard is still on my case, but after I beat him up Tuesday after class, he?s sorta let up. And yay, Chelsea! I?ll tell you next time? if I go.

Luvs,
Alex

Joshua sat up and graoned. He hurt. Bad. He was sore all over and his head felt like it was gunna split open. "Josh?" David asked. Sphen was sitting at the table int he other room. "What?" he snapped. "Heh. Go back to sleep," David said, grinning and lighting up a ciggeret. "The fuck? I'm fine!" He yelled.
David smiled at him then grabbed his coat. "Where are you going?" Joshua asked in a calmer tone. "Out," David said, "I got someone to look for. Why don't you come?" Joshua didn't ever pass up the chance to go somewhere with David. Jashua grabbed his coat and followed. Sphen sneered and stayed where he was. He didn't like David and Joshua being so buddy-buddy. It seemed like Joshua got special treatment.

Joshua clenched his teeth as he walked beside David. He hurt in his legs and stomach and hips and every joint in his body. He didn't want David to know that, though, so he denied it even to himself.
There was silence for a few minutes. Joshua didn't wan't to disrespect him by starting a conversation, so he waited 'till David wanted to talk.
"Tell me if you see a kid 'round here, he's got a jacket on and that's basically all I heard from that kid's drovle." David finnally commented. Joshua nodded, "Yessir," then added "Who said what?" David grinned, "That kid. Sphen. He's got quite an atitude, quite a bit to learn." Joshua nodded, but didn't comment.

A final spasm ran through Caitlin's body and the mattress slowly stopped bouncing. Her customer, who told her that his name was Jack, (a fake name, of course.) Got up from off of her, and sat down on the edge of the bed. Grabbing a cigarette, he lit it and offered her one. She didn't accept, and tried to wipe her sweaty body off with the sheets. She wouldn't be able to get any other customers if she smelled. Jack noticed her attempts, and offered to let her use his shower. She thanked him, and got up from the bed. She didn't even try to cover herself up. Her secrets were his for now.

Caitlin stood in the shower, and soaped up her body. Then, she got back underneath the warm water and washed off the suds. She just stood their, enjoying it all. Actually, she wasn't really enjoying it as much as she made it look like. She was just putting on a show for Jack, who was sitting outside the bathroom in a chair. In some ways, she had been wrong about this new customer. He wasn't as old as she supposed he was, (He was only a couple of years older than she was.) And he was actually quite handsome and nicer thann most of the perverts than she met. She didn't even have to fake it this time. In fact, if things had been different and she and Jack had met some other way, she probably would be in love with him. Caitlin turned off the water, and dried off. Looking at a clock on the wall, she got dressed. Jack's time was up.

He said goodbye to her in front of his apartment, and offered to give her a ride to wherever she was headed. Caitlin said she would just walk, and gave him a goodbye kiss. Jack told her that when he got some more money, he would look her up again. She thought of offering him a freebie if they did meet again, but she decided not to. He waved goodbye to her as he walked back into his apartment.

As Caitlin was walking away from the apartment, she had the feeling that someone was watching her. She looked back, but didn't see anyone. Hoping that it was just nothing, Caitlin started walking a little faster. It was getting a little windy out, and the clouds looked like it was about to rain. As she was looking around for a place to stay until the rain stopped, Caitlin passed up a group of boys. They stopped what they were doing, and stared at her. She tried to avoid making eye contact with them, but she could feel them undressing her with their minds. A gust of wind blew up the bottom of her jacket, and she knew they would start chasing her now. Caitlin started running.

OOC: Aru-sama, if David and the group wouldn't chase after Caitlin, or if you don't want them to right now, then just have them notice her, and see her run away. I'm just trying to have my character interact with some of the other players right now.

"Feels good to have a rep. again," David said, refering to the long time period when they were run away from. (lol) Joshua looked back at her aswell. "She's pretty good lookin' " he said." David clapped him on the shoulder. "Don't get distracted." he said. "W're looking for someone, remeber?" Cat snapped awake and instantly fell off the porch into wet dirt. Noise from inside had startled him, triggering his semi-useful reflexes. Looking up in a daze, a girl walked out and proceeded down the street. Slut... he thought, getting up groggily. Pale olive eyes scanned the darkened sidewalks before he dared go out in the open.

His head throbbed as he walked, sore from half-laying on hard cement. With a hand on his forehead, he began his endless walk yet again. No destination, no purpose.

David narrowed is eyes at the dissheveled boy walking in their direction. "There's our man." Joshua looked at him questioningly, "You sure?" "Positive."

"Hey," David grabbed Cat's shoulder as he passed by, "where ya goin' buddy?" Cat halted faster than David or Joshua would have expected and looked them both in the face. After a tense moment of silence, he looked back ahead of him and continued walking. David and Joshua followed, catching up quickly. "I asked you a question," David turned Cat around to face him.

Cat was silent still, glaring into David's eyes, uneasily aware of Joshua behind him. "I don't know you," he finally spoke, his voice dry and low, "go away." When Cat turned away again, David and Joshua exchanged glances and nodded.

As soon as their firm grip was upon him, Cat's survival instinct turned on. Within seconds, he had his new knife at Joshua's throat, and his hand quivered on the handle of his gun inside his jacket. His eyes were devoid of any reason - only instinct. His instinct rarely failed him.

David threw one arm around Cat's neck and pulled it down, pulling his arms down and pushed his head downward violently with his free hand. Cat passed out. "...Holly shit." Joshua remarked, not recognizing whatever David had done. David grinned and turned Cat onto his back, rummeging through his pockets. He found Sphen's knife and a gun. Joshua grinned.

"Any bullets in it?" he asked immediatly. David shook his head without needing to check, then stuffed it and the lighter in his back pocket. "He got anything else?" Joshua asked. "Nothing of ours, nothing of great importance, no." David responded. him and Joshua pulled Cat up beside a wall and sat him up. They weren't going to be cruel to him, seeing as Sphen was foolish and let himself get mugged, and Cat had done nothing to harm any of them. Joshua decided to take his shirt, though, he was cold. OOC: The gun and lighter were his. The knife and cigs. were Sphen's :P
~~~
Cat snapped back to reality quicker than either of them expected. He was never one to stay unconscious very long. When he saw them standing over him, he immediatly reached for his gun, only to find it missing. So he stared at them with his dull eyes, waiting for someone to do something.
David put a hand on his hip, "Well well, aren't we full of surprises today," he commented dryly. Cat, of course, didn't respond but continued staring. He noticed with slight irritation that his shirt was missing, leaving him with only his jacket to protect against the cold.
"What's your reason." Cat still didn't move. Joshua shot him a look like he was crazy, "What'd you say?"
"What's your reason. I have mine. Must you do this just to live?" His eyes bore deep into the other boy's, "If you don't, you have no business taking my means. My means of life." Still, he didn't stand or make any move to threaten the two. But he would have his things back, because he had a need for them. He could do anything to survive, even if it meant taking on both of them.
IC-- Joshua glared at him for a moment. He didn't care about this kid. He didn't. But in spite of this, he threw the gun sharply back at Cat, it crashing against the wall behind him. David glanced at Joshua, a questioning look but also a look that seemed to say 'Yeah, I know, you bratt'. David turned and began to walk away. They were finished. Joshua started to turn around then looked back down at Cat, staring at him. He didn't care about him. He didn't give a shit. He told himself that 5 or six times as he took his shirt and sweater off, and tossed them at the boy, then turned and walked away, following David.
