If anyone says dust they are so voted off the island! I'm just really curious to know if people collect things and if the do what are they and why.

As for myself well, I collect make up and underwear. Yeah I know strange collections. I have panties I haven't even worn yet and then when Victoria's Secret has their semi annual clearance or I see some cute ones at Target or somewhere like that I just go and buy them. Not so much with bras though because with bras they have to be Victoria's secret, but panties just have to be cute. So far I have 13 thongs, some hello kitty boy cut ones panties, a few bras (lime green, fuschia, turquoise, white, black, pale pink, light pink, purple ect ect. ) and some other things.

Then the make up, well, it really doesn't matter where the cosmetics come from although I'm quite partial to Stila eye shadow. I bought an eyeshadow, blush and Lipstick set from Stila because the net proceeds went to breast cancer research. I also have flavored body powder (Peppermint and Caramel) from Urban Decay, some perfume by Taste from Jessica Simpson that smells and tastes like coconut and a bunch of Lipsticks I bought because they were discountinued at a grocery store (Max Factor I think) I barely wear make up, but it does fill up my medicine cabinet nicely...I hope Lincoln doesn't read this because he's be a bit pissed.

Well, that's me, check in next time when I discuss my t-shirt collection.

Hey, it does taste like caramel,

Oh, It's a wonderful life. You post on my useless topic, I post on yours.
I collect coins . That's about it. Not actively, though. I did for about a year and now I get cool coins from my entire family. It's kinda weird. I have a coin from the UAE, but none from Britain or France.

I collect various things. I collect coins also. I have coins from China, Japan, India, all of Europe, including the Euro. I have some from Mexico, Turkey, Tunisa, Eygpt, and Canada as well.

I also collect rocks and I've been doing this ever since I was in grade school.

Lately I started to collect manga and Shonen Jump magazine.

Collecting is fun!

I'm a loser. I now find myself collecting Star Wars memorabilia.

I've got a RotJ Special Edition poster hanging to my left, an original print, mint condition Marvel Star Wars comic book adaptation of A New Hope on my dresser, two standees, one of Darth Vader, the other of Slave Leia.

I've got a few figurines around in various spots, and I've got a Lego Milennium Falcon stored in my closet.

Trivial Pursuit: Star Wars edition is downstairs, and my family refuses to let me play with it when we all play Trivial Pursuit.

I have the Widescreen OT DVD Box Set that was released back in September, but I'm not sure if that counts as collecting stuff.

Totally unrelated to Star Wars, I collect copies of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. If I see a copy in a bookstore or wherever, I buy it. I love it when my local public library as a used book sale on the weekends, because I can usually find a copy of HoD there.

I have quite a few different collections in the works right now. It's funny, I don't think I would have thought about all the odds and ends I am collecting if it weren't for this thread! Most interesting indeed.

Pandas: I know, what a shocker to all of you, I have a panda collection. If it has a panda on it then I will buy it. Clothing, toys, food packaging, watches, stickers, cards, rubber stamps, books, bookmarks, music boxes, jewerly, buttons, cell phone covers, purses, pens, note pads, keychains and much much more. I keep most of my collection confined to one room, but if you look around my house you are bound to find at least one (if not more) panda in every room. If it has a panda on it, I need to have it.

Hakata Dolls: These dolls are made in Japan and are the kind you just look at through a glass case and that is about it. I get one every year for Christmas as a gift for myself. Currently I have 11 of them. If only I had a ton of money, the one I want to get is the Japanese traditional bride doll and last time I price checked it I believe it was over $2000. Needless to say, this one won't be joining my collection anytime soon.

Anime Cels: Another one of my collections that I can only add new additions too when I have some spare cash. I have cels from Macross, Mospeada, Ranma 1/2 and Love Hina. I would love to buy more cels and at anime conventions if there is someone selling cels, I will be there looking though the books wishing I could buy them all. There is just something really cool about owning a piece of the actual production of my favorite animes. Whenever I see the episode with my cel I think "I own that!". What can I say, I am an Otaku.

I, too, collect coins. I have some form Oman (very weird looking) Bbut those are the most exotic.

I also collect Peanuts memorabilia, Snoopy in particular.

And old tapes. I used to have a bunch of good ones, but they got sold on accident. :( If I had more money, I'd have all the Beatles albums on CD. As it is, I only have Rubber Soul...on cassette. Bleck.)
Trivial Pursuit: Star Wars edition is downstairs, and my family refuses to let me play with it when we all play Trivial Pursuit.
I need this in my life.

I've got large collections of various things. Star Wars memorabilia (figures, posters, books, movies, board games, etc.), video game memorabilia (actual games, Nintendo Power posters, magazines, figures, plushies and whatnot), and books. I've got lots of books in my house lol. I tend to go for classic literature and poetry more often than not. I'm not a real serious collector, though, in that I just tend to go for regular copies of books. Dollar value doesn't really concern me, I'll buy a somewhat ratty copy of a good book from a thrift store if I want to read it, for example.

Yeah. I actually do stuff with my collections, I don't just collect them for the hell of it. That would be weird. :p

I don't know that I really collect things just for collection's sake. I wind up having a lot of certain types of things, mostly because I just keep buying them... I mean, I have a ton of games, but I don't actively go out and find ones to add to my collection, the totals just add up. I do have a bunch of random gaming related things that really serve no purpose though... like toys and Japanese imports I never use.

At one point I was collecting picture discs of my favorite musicians. They're basically just records with the art printed directly on the vinyl. They're usually limited edition when a group bothers to have one put out. The look nice, but usually don't sound all that good compared to plain vinyl.

I also spent around $90 to get the first ten or so copies of The Walking Dead comic. I normally wouldn't bother, but I LOVE the series and these were all first prints and autographed. I already owned them all, but they were worth the cost.

I think that's about it.

Comics, including a lot of manga graphic novels, batman, Blade of the Immortal, Ultimate Spiderman, Powers, 100 Bullets, etc etc.

I'm also a HUGE action figure nut, I have a ton of Transformers old and new. I've got a bazillion little capsule figures from my trip to Japan, a nearly complete Dragonball Z collection which I stopped a few years ago. I've got a lot of Final Fantasy stuff, resident evil, Reboot, Batman toys from the animated series and Justice League. I've got most of the new He-Man stuff that came out too. I guess I'm a toy collector but to my credit I don't leave anything in the package, I like to show them off and fool around with scenes. I do have a Stinkor (He-man villian) in the package from the 80's to preserve his hippy stink.

I've also got a decent game collection, and CD's but they don't really count.

When I was litttle, I collected rocks. Not polished rocks, or the kind you buy at funky shops that sell incense...beach rocks. We lived right next to Lake Michigan (Second-largest freshwater lake in the world! Single largest freshwater lake in the US!), so we'd go down there all the time. And I would always pick up rocks. Lots of rocks.

I think, at the height of my collection, I had three ice cream buckets full of rocks. Shortly after that, I sorted through them, kept my very, very favorites, and hauled them down to the beach in a wagon and dumped them.

I still collect beach glass, though. (It's not quite so glaringly common as beach rocks, and I can actually keep all the peices I find without having to worry about storage space, heh.)

I'm actually quite a beach glass connoisseur. ^_~ Green is bby far the most common color, but there are occasional variations in the standard bottle green that are very delightful. I have a lovely piece of olive-green glass, for example, and another one that looks just like fresh green leaves in a spring garden. Brown is not as common, and while the untrained eye might dismiss it as mundane, it is actually quite lovely. Some of my brown pieces are among my favorites.

The most-sought after color in my family was always a very deep blue. These are quite rare in comparison to the other colors, and the pieces are generall much smaller. My favorite piece was a flawless small piece of blue glass in a nicely worn shape...it was very beautiful. Unfortunately, it cracked when I attempted to set it in a piece of jewelry for my mom. // I was nearly devastated, heh. I'd had that piece of glass for years (it was the first piece of blue glass I had ever found.)

This sounds so silly, doesn't it? But it's something I love. ^_^

(I also have a piece of red glass, and a beautiful piece of rose-colored glass. They're amazing; I love them. I have never seen any other pieces of these colors.)

Ah, anyway.

I also collect candy and mint tins. This started a few years ago, when I started eating Altoids, which (of course) come in small tins. I have dozens and dozens of Altoids tins (special editions, mini-tins, gum tins, sours tins, large tins...) as well as some other gum and candy tins. They're just a lot of fun.

And, of course, I collect stickers. I adore stickers. There's just something so awesome about them. I mean...they're colorful, and they stick to things! Ah, bliss!

I collected stickers (Lisa Frank stickers) when I was little, and had a couple sticker books. Unfortunately, I no longer have any idea where those are. I started collected stickers again two summers ago. It started innocently enough, just a sheet or two that I bought to decorate my letters... I have innummerable numbers now. It's bordering on the ridiculous (okay, it might've crossed that border.) I keep my stickers in a green folder. It's been repeatedly mended and reinforced with various colors of duct tape, and it's sitting on my desk right now, bulging pitifully.

I love having stickers. I got more for Christmas. Hee.

They just make me so happy. ^_^

accept no imitations :p,
Sara

If you've read the Official Comic Thread in the Anthology it becomes obvious that I collect comics.

I do also, however, collect cards. Not trading cards or anything like that, just your average playing cards, ya know with diamonds and hearts and things like that. I collect different versions of them like Simpsons playing cards or Harry Potter playing cards or playing cards depictiong different scenes of the Northumberland coastline. If I see a pack of cards that I don't have yet, I'll buy them, whether they be regular or unusual. I have a spiderman pack around here somewhere but they've gone missing somehow.

I used to collect Tudor Mint Dragons when I was younger but I have gone off those for quite a few years now. I am also starting a Converse, Chuck Taylor, shoe collection but that is in its early stages so far.

I have Red, Black and Blue and Maroon purple Chucks that are made in the USA, and a pair of pink ones that are sweatshop specials. Since the original company went under they have a ton of different colors out, but I kind of don't like them anymore because of the whole sweatshop thing.

I collect underwear. I don't really know how I got started but I've always loved having really pretty panties. I mostly go for the boy shorts now a days, where part of your bum just sort of hangs in perfect balance, heh. I have a lot of Hello Kitty stuff and polka dots. I have these cool junior mint kind. I have some really sexy underwear I've never worn. I'm just waiting for that special day or something :p In total I'm pretty sure my underpants collection goes over the 100 mark.

I also collect stationary. I like to write letters and such things so I buy a lot of nice paper for that. I love pens, purple ones are my favorite. I hate running out of ink, it really hurts to put a pen into remission. I usually still keep the pen afterwards too.

Stickers are also a favorite. I have a box with different kinds. Yesterday I purchased these glorious glittery ones of a little girl with a big head. They're beautiful. Like Sara said, they're colorful and they stick to things. How awesome is that. Pretty freakin' awesome in my oppinion.

Books I kind of accidenatlly got into. I didn't mean to start collecting them, but I really like to read. They take up a huge part of my room. I'm having such a difficult time choosing which to keep after I move away from home. I know I have to start making decisions now too. This isn't the type of thing I can do with an hour or two ahead.

There's a lot more, but I don't know how I got around to collecting them really. I like to shop ::shrugs::

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one who collects underwear...:bawl: I'm soo happy!.

I have Hello Kitty panties one pink gingham and the other is green gingham. Lincoln's cousin has the same two pairs. I think right now my favorite panties are the purple boy shorts with the silver glitter that go with my tank top that has the same material.

I almost bought four more pairs at Target today, all with Tinkerbell on them, my newest obsession.

Lincoln's cousin though is a rabid Hello Kitty fan. If it's Hello Kitty she has to have it. She has all the Hello Kitty make up, Hello Kitty socks, Hello Kitty panties, Hello Kitty body wash a Hello Kitty purse. She's trying to get her boyfriend to buy her a Hello Kitty bustier-don't ask. I told her if she could find me a new watch I'd give her my Hello Kitty one, and she keeps eying my Hello Kitty steering wheel cover. I swear if we ever went to Japan, she'd try to steal one of the Hello Kitty taxis they have. Why? Because when we were at Target on Monday she wanted to see if the Hello Kitty face could be ripped off the wall in the girl's department so I don't dpubt she'd steal a Hello Kitty taxi.

I'D steal a Hello Kitty taxi. I'm not even that into Hello Kitty, but a Hello Kitty taxi would kick butt.

I collect manga. Nothing interesting there. I have somewhere between 200-250 of them by now. Lots of different series, and they're fun to reread.

Other than that, I could say, in a way, that I collect anything. I'm a huge packrat. Most of anyhting that goes in my room never leaves, it goes in a drawer in my closet. I have a lot of things in there I refuse to get rid of, regardless of their use to me.

I have to agree with Tony, in the sense that I don't really collect things just for the sake of collecting them.

But I do tend to collect video games and (more recently) movie posters. I generally buy a pretty reasonable number of games, even though I hardly play many of them. But I like to own particular games, and I certainly enjoy them as much as I can.

With movie posters, well, I really like framing them up and putting them on the walls. Some movie posters can be particularly gorgeous and I appreciate them as much as I would appreciate a painting or something. Right now I have about four very large Kill Bill posters and around five Matrix Reloaded posters (the latter thanks to the always-generous Adam). So, I still have a lot of framing to do, but I'll get there.

I collect and covet laziness.

Whenever I see something to do, I lift it up, find the laziness, put it back down and go do something else. Then, later, the laziness with find t's way to my room where it joins other types of laziness.

Laziness Type One: Being to lazy to put away clothes. On of the more common types and something I have a lot of. I've lived out of a basket for at least five months.

Laziness Type Two: The total and encompassing want to do nothing. This one usually is found before I have to go to work or school and usually in my bed.

Laziness Type Three: Floydian Laziness. Just pop on a Pink Floyd CD and watch the laziness seep out of every crevase of my room.

And dust.

I collect bats, well not really collect them but find them in our trees and name them and yes I can tell the difference between a lot of them!

I collect things that have bats on them purely because people give me them

I love bats, I have a tattoo of a bat that my sister drew, it's rather evil looking :D

When I was a wee lass I collected beach glass and sea shells...it was always a treat to find the little pieces of ceramics that had washed up on shore. I also collected Hello Kitty stuff... purchased at this little shop in Hilo, mostly... and I collected stuffed animals. Hundreds of them- which I gave names and personalities to and invented elaborate stories about. And GIJoe stuff- lots and lots of GIJoe stuff... GO JOE!

These days, I collect Raggedy Anne and Andy dolls(- the antique variety), video games, musical instruments (I can play pretty much anything), and different kinds of cloth and material to make clothes out of.

I would collect more Star Wars stuff and movie posters (of the horror variety) but I don't have anywhere to put them right now to keep them safe because the house I live in right now is not my own...

Video games are the only "collection" that I put any money into, though... and occasionally some music equipment...when I'm feeling a little manic and have some cash in me pocket.

I agree with some of the others that it's wierd to collect things that you don't do something with. I make art out of my dolls, play my video games, and play my musical instruments until my fingers are raw...

I collect anime DVDs. That's about it, really. Reading manga and picking up the occasional anime-related soundtrack or trinket is just a natural extension of the hobby.
Yeah. I actually do stuff with my collections, I don't just collect them for the hell of it. That would be weird. :p
Same here. If I'm going to spend my hard-earned money on something, it had best be entertaining. ;)

A few years ago I tried collecting US coins... I learned that didn't work to well, so I stopped. Though whenever I see a cool state US coin, I try to keep it and not spend it.

I'm trying to start collecting mangas and anime dvds. So far, I've only got two mangas (though three, if you count the shonen jump one) and two anime dvds. I would have five anime dvds, but the other three are gone (somebody stole them!). I know it isn't much, but I just can't hold on to money. I always have a late fee at the library or need to buy something else. And I can never get over to the book store at the mall anymore, so I spend my money on other things.

Lessee... I guess I collect those paint cards you get from hardware stores, I've got a few of them. Whenever I go to a hardware store with my dad, I always take a few. I think they look really cool (I know, weird).

And Lore, I know you're going to think me stupid for asking this, but what is "beach glass"? It's prolly something simple that I didn't tihnk of, but what is it?
