PWNED
I am related to one and that is my grandfather, Sydney Kirkby who is an Antartic explorer. He worked with Mawson on Mawsons last mission and he even has a Glacier or something named after him. He was in a book called the Silence Calling which was about Australian Explorers in Antartica. At the moment he is traveling to Antartica to be there for 6 weeks and he even said that when my sisters and I are older then he would take us to Antartica. So if that isn't famous then what is it? Who are you related to anyone famous like what the thread title says?
James
Wow, that's very cool. Apparently I am a direct descendant of the poet Robert Burns. My aunt actually investigated this some years ago, by traveling to Scotland herself. Another aunt actually has one of his original publications - I had no idea about its existence until only a few years ago. It's quite amazing to see an actual book of that age. Other than that, I'm not really sure. I know that my grandfather opened the first pub in this state and I know that my great grandfather brought the very first race horse to Australia. So I guess those are reasonably big things, but I wouldn't say that either man is particularly famous (at least, not in general).
Sol-Blade
Hmm, me and my sister tracked down most of our family time and our first ancestors first came here to America in 1821. Nobody really famous to speak of, but one of my great grandfathers was on the first caravan through the Oregon Trail, after Lewis and Clark. So yeah, semi-famous. :D So they first arrived in New York, and slowly but surely moved over to the west coast, and lived in old LA for about, the next 100 years or so. Finally, around the 1950's, my family moved to Hawaii. And have been there up until...2001. Now we are in Vegas.

DarkOtakuBoy
Yeah, my cousin Dave was the drummer for the Misfits. (stage name, 'Dr. Chud') He isnt well known, cause he's not an original member. But he of course is friends with them all, including Danzig. Childhood friends, actually.( or so he told me.) He wrote a few famous songs in the past few years, the one that sticks in my mind the best is the one Metallica covered for the Garage Inc. Album, Die Die, My Darling. yep....that song came from my genes and my twisted Italian family history. More about that another day. ^_^ thats my only claim to fame. Lenny. Panda
My grandfather was an award-winning published Senryu author in Japan. His name was Takeji Minegishi but went by the pen name Fujio Minegishi. He got the pen name by taking my grandma's name, Fuji, and making it masculine by adding the "o" at the end. He has several books published in Japan. His work was also used in a book of different Senryu's pieces that they translated into English. I can't remember the title of that book, I will have to check with my mom to find out. His last book was at the publisher when he past away in 1986, so it wasn't released until 2 weeks after his death. The front of the book has a couple of pictures of my grandparents. One with them in my grandma's flower garden the other in their home. I do have a copy of this book which is very special to me.

Its a nice place, though I must say. I've also found out that my grandpa has two things named after him. A Glacier and a Mountain in the Prince Charles Mountain Range in Antartica. I have also found out that i have a distant relative that is famous although only St Kilda Supporters. He is Darrel Baldock who was the captian of the St Kilda Saints only premiership team. i don't like the team but I respect the guy because he had great leadership skills. Baron Samedi
For all of you interested Aussies out there, my great, great, great grand-uncle was Lord John Forrest, who was the first Premier of Western Australia and appears on the... $5 bill?
elfpirate
I'm a descendent of Florence Nightingale (my mom's maiden name was Nightingale, so that one was easy to trace) and my great grandmother was a Kennedy... yeah...THOSE Kennedys... it made it rather disturbing to watch my relative get his brains blown out over and over in History class... And I guess one of my Scotch-Irish ancestors was a famous (or possibly infamous) military general/ mercenary... there's a huge museum somewhere in Scotland or Ireland that was built in his honor and bears my last name. Other than that, I'm not sure because much of my family's history lay hidden from me and from my parents... a lot of information was unshared and carried to the grave as a secret to never be revealed... like the true identity of my paternal great-grandmother, who was ostracized and rejected by my forebears because she was Cherokee and they were racist ****s. There are many lies regarding who people really were in my family... Be careful about the language. I edited out a word since it is inappropriate for the boards. Thanks! ~Panda
Misaki Mitsu
odly enough i am related to the dude that invented the light bulb. having his blood tested with my birth father, they were the same. scary enough i am not that bright for my age. tho one thing that Thomas and me have in common is that we are both very stubborn. its a bit funny (to my mom) when my dad and i get angry

Epitome
Well for the older folk on the Boards, if any of you have seen the Mr. Whipple guy on the old Charmin commercials, my family is related to him. Also, my ancestor, William Whipple, signed the Declaration of Independence so that was pretty cool. My granfather has like 8 full like 2 inch binders of our family tree and weve been related to alot of kings of Scotland and England too. So thats basically my "famous" relatives.
Morpheus
I'm related to Martha Washington somehow. How my Grandpa finds this out and runs a Salvage yard worth millions is beyond me.
Roxie Faye
Wow! All of you have great family histories and are related to really cool people! That's... well, cool! ^_^; I'm related to Nelson Rockefeller (and all others that he's related to, obviously). I'm his 6th cousin. He's dead, of course, but that's not the point. So yeah, my relative was a VP! ^_^ When he was campaigning, he stopped at my mom's house, and stayed there for a night, and went out to dinner with them. She said it was a great time. =) I also have a Great Uncle (I don't really think he's that old, either - O_o) that writes books on spiritual stuff, like ghosts, and your spirit in you. Or maybe it's self-help. I can't remember. One of the true life stories in one of his books was on TV once. He lives in Florida, and I've never met him. But he wrote a book, so... lol. ^_^;
Juke Box Hero
Perkins of Canton, the first American China Trading operation in the 1830's, head captain was Lochlin Ross. Lochlin Ross is my great grandfather's great great uncle. Really distant, but cool none the less. My Friedrich family produced a governor of Pennsylvania, and several senators. That's pretty cool.... My grandfather is an award winning and very respected research scientist, who is a senior fellow of the American Society for Metals (of Metals??). He developed many of the materials used by the NASA program, and numerous things for the navy/army/airforce. He's worked in the defense industry for many years, and every time a cruise missile kills another used camel salesman, material taht he developed explodes. My other grandfather is a reitred colonel from US Army. He served 3 tours in Vietnam, has a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star among other things. He is noted for leading the charge up Hamburger Hill. Tells some killer stories. I have a ton of great uncles, etc. that served in wars but gramps went the highest.
