Guest Sugar-chan
Well...I've been wondering what everyone's favorite anime was and why they liked it. ^^ IT's just a thing to think about, and I wanna know everyone better here, so it's worth a shot. ^^ And I'm kinda new here...O.O and I wanna make a lot of friends cuz friends are so awesome and amazing, right? ^^ So please post your favorite anime here and tell me the reason WHY you like it!~^^ Personally, my favorite anime is Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne (kinda old, but it's still kewl) and D.N.Angel. They both kinda have the same story, but that's why I like it. ^^ Daisuke-san in D.N. Angel is SO kawaii (cute in Japanese-- in case if some of you didn't know)...^^ And I just LOVE Chiaki in KKJ. But it's not only the boys, it's the girls, too. I'm not trying to sound ...uhm...o.O like bad or anything, but Jeanne and Fin are really pretty!~^^ You know, in a good way, especially how the creator makes 'em. And I LOVE the actions they do in both DN Angel and KKJ. It's awesome!~ So tell me yours. ^^
Mavado-EX
My favorite is Naruto because it has everyting that I want in an anime: action, comedy, great music, likeable characters, and a decent story. Second would be Neon Genesis Evangelion.
kaisha
Inuyasha. It is greatness. Simple as that.
Dagger
kaisha: Try to follow the example set by Sugar-chan and Mavado-EX. This thread won't be very interesting if people list their favorites without explaining why they like the shows in question. Further posts (from anyone) that disregard this will be deleted as spam. Thanks. :) When you get down to it, my absolute favorite anime is probably Revolutionary Girl Utena. It's deeply fulfilling on both an emotional and intellectual level, and it's one of those shows which lends itself to numerous different interpretations. My feelings about the plot, symbolism and relationships presented in the series have subtly shifted every time I re-watch the episodes I like best. It doesn't hurt that the show and the movie both have strong voice acting and very beautiful visuals. It's hard to describe the effect Utena had on me, actually... I guess one could say that I found the anime haunting. And before Melody of Oblivion came around, Utena was one of a kind. My second favorite anime is a somewhat odder choice, I guess. Up until a week or two ago, I would have unhesitatingly said RahXephon. But after finishing Soukyuu no Fafner, that's changed. Fafner isn't as polished or as artistically flawless, but in terms of character development and even (to a certain extent) plot, it outshines RahXephon. While I felt lukewarm about Fafner for the first six or seven episodes, it kept getting better and better and better. The ending is amazing. I really hope the upcoming OVA adheres to that same level of quality. ~Dagger~
EVA Unit 100
To me, Laputa is the perfect anime. Miyazaki's other movies are amazing but are all in some way lacking. Cagliostro is classic Lupin, which means it is great, but also means it lacks a bit in originality. Nausicaa was incredible up until the final minute or two. Totoro I respect and adore highly but didn't blow me away like some of Miyazaki's other movies. Kiki is cute but is Miyazaki's weakest movie that I've seen. Mononoke has an amazing story and artwork but I didn't care for the characters that much. Spirited Away has the greatest artwork of any anime AND great characters but sort of felt "been there, done that" in typical Miyazaki territory. Laputa has amazing artwork, story, characters, emotion, and makes me go "Wow!" every time I see it, and is thus possibly the greatest anime ever. Serieswise, my opinion changes every month or two about whether Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop is the best. EVA has such a deep and compelling story, but Bebop is hip, fun, and has great style. I guess what it all comes down to is that Evangelion is hieght of anime art, while Cowboy Bebop hieght of anime entertainment.
2010DigitalBoy
This is a question no anime fan should ever have to answer. How am I suppossed to chose one? Well, I of course love the beutifully funny Cowboy Bebop, but there are some episodes I didn't find too facinating. Trigun, on the other hand, is a great show where I loved every episode. Then theres King of Bandit Jing which was increadibly unique. Rurouni Kenshin was a great series, but there were so many episodes.... I think I'll pick Trigun, now that i think about it. The story really drew me in. :)
Dagger
To me, Laputa is the perfect anime. Miyazaki's other movies are amazing but are all in some way lacking.
That's cool. I haven't encountered too many people who value Castle in the Sky over Miyazaki's other movies. It's definitely my favorite anime film (not that I seek out very many to begin with). Of course, I fully expect Howl's Moving Castle to surpass it. Kiki's sort of lost my attention the first time I watched it, but after a while I came to concede that it's the perfect anime for a long, rainy afternoon. Even though slice-of-life is not really my preferred genre, I have to admit that Kiki's version of it is appropriately gentle and heartwarming. It's the movie I watch when I'm simply not in the right mood for anything else.
...Bebop is hip, fun, and has great style. Misaki Mitsu
for me it would have to be.... DN Angel and X clamp. thos were both very good movies. i might add i enjoyed Pretear. that was also good. normally i just watch the movies to get inspiration from them. i work under my friend to design characters and create them for his new game. thats what i normally do. but im my spare time i like to create my own stuff. and make costumes for some people. its actually quite fun!!! ^_^

Ma-zaku Yusuke
What`s my favorite anime?Wow that`s tough um either Yu Yu Hakusho or Rurouni Kenshin.I would say Rurouni Kenshin, because it doesn`t talk about the main character alot like YYH,it sometimes talk about Yahiko,or Sanosuke,or heck even Miss Kaoru, that`s why I like it.Also in every episode there`s fighting in it and in the director`s cut the show can get really messy. In second place would be YYH,and third would be Inuyasha. Panda
I believe that Robotech is my all time favorite anime. When I was younger I would watch Robotech and be captivated by the idea of my "Knight in shining Veritech" swooping down to rescue me from danger. Just the way Rick would rescue Lisa. Lisa was a very strong female character with a sucessful career. I loved seeing a female character that wasn't completely helpless and dependant on a man. I wanted to be that independant and successful in my career. I know at times Lisa did act a bit "weak", but that just made her more realistic. You can be strong, yet vulnerable. Robotech was the first animated programming I saw on TV here in the States that showed an "adult" story line. Death, war, love and interracial relationships...it had it all. It didn't sugar coat the story line since kids were going to see it. It was nice to finally have something that didn't talk down to us. It continues to be my all time favorite since it holds a lot of nostagic sentiments for me.
XxLinkinParkxX
My favorite anime would deff be Neon Genesis Evangelion. Hands down the best anime out there. The plot is just groundbreaking, character development also groundbreaking. The anime is flawless, its a masterpeice, and I believe there will never be another anime to match it. DarkOtakuBoy
I would have to say, at this moment, it would be .hack//SIGN Without turning this into an exposé and talking about EVERY symbolic hidden meaning behind the story, I'll wanna point out that I was really moved by the Philosophy of the show. Mostly, the philosophical meaning of existence, and the whole notion that if we are hurting in the world, if we have pain for various reasons and decide to hide our lives in RPG games and shut ourselves off, whos to say that that "world" isnt reality? Aside from the whole Tsukasa story line, what was incredibly sad was towards the end of the series, seeing that the real life Subaru
is confined to a wheelchair
or the real life BT
depressed and tearing up her High School reunion notification.
Are we to assume she was relentlessly picked on back then and escaped into a game? I can identify with the notion of escaping into an RPG world, because for reasons that arent important here, I spent 16 hours a day some days, lost in Final Fantasy and other games. The story touched me, and hit close to home. (quick side note, sorry: I also believe the whole symbolism behind Tsukasa not being able to log out, was for people who play those games and just dont WANT to log out.) Also, the soundtrack was the most phenomenal thing I ever heard in my life. That band, See-Saw, is beyond talented. ^_^ Lenny

animegirl803
My favorite is Inuyasha, Saiyuki, and Gravitation. I like them because each of them affect my personallty in some way. Air
Air <------- my Favorite [reason] true friendship, emotional, addicting Naruto <------- also my favorite [reason] funny, lot of action, addicting, etc etc Bleach <-------- Also my favorite [reason] emotional, action, funny, addicting Gundam Seed Destiny <-------- Also Also My favorite ^^ [just like it] have a long list...... wahahahah...... EDIT // here's my feeling about air ( even though i posted the same thing in the other thread) but here it goes you wouldn't imagine how many times i watched Air over and over again.... its simply for addicting~! this anime's genre is drama since i just started the series. The first 3 eps is an truly amazing show. This show being 12 eps total and a movie. The animation is definately beautiful and lifelike/ Basicly ... this is a fantasy-drama genred anime. So... maybe ... if you like a fighting or the anime with blood scathered sceene you won't expecting much from this series ... . In the half mdidle of the story you'll feel the calm and the peaceness of the plot. But in the end the story flow will drag you into a sadness and touching situations. This anime will be the one to watch out of all the new ones this season. The animation is definetly the strongest point about the anime. The Op and soundtracks are good. Story has HUGE potential just judging from first episode. Characters are defetly memorable, the main character (the puppeteer) is very serious and cool, and yet they put him in such a situation... There was the right amount of cuteness, seriousness, and great character developement. (copys and pastes from other thread) wahahahaha

JenniKate
Favourite anime is one of the hardest questions to answer! It all depends on my mood. Generally If I'm depressed - Neon Genesis Evangelion. It makes it easy to wallow in your depression. You really enter the minds of the characters and realise how unhappy everyone is. If I'm in no particular mood - Cowboy Bebop Instant entertainment. The drawing, the character development, the ongoing background story that doesn't dominate but is always there, Ed - who is the coolest craziest lovable character I've seen really everything. But I think the music is what tips me over into it being a favourite. At the moment - X TV I'm hooked on the story and the characters are really well developed. It presents a lot of background to what is going on and you can really understand each person. Others - because I like their style, characters and stories. They are generally well rounded and not too long: Trigun, Outlaw Star, .hack//sign
Redemption
Hard to choose just one. So I'll give you a list. 1. NOIR If I had to choose one it would be NOIR. I like how it's a all-women anime (pro feminist here....well sort of). The music really gives it the edge. And the characters are very cool, especially Kirika and Chloe. 2. Earth Maiden Arjuna This one would be a favourite because it shows what humans are doing to the environment. The storyline is a bit all over the place but you do get the general message throughout the anime. Some of the music is good and the theme is a definite issue in this day and age. Plus, I have never eaten anything from a fast-food chain after watching it. 3. DNAngel Although I haven't seen much of the anime, I still would put it as one of my favourites. The characters are done well and the storyline is good, even though it gets a little complicating with Daisuke&Dark and Risa&Riku. 4. Neon Genesis Evangelion The characters are so in depth and its just a fascinating anime to watch. -Brooke- AKA amgoddess

Lord Naraku
I would have to say that the best anime currently out there would have to be Inuyasha. Just for the simple fact that the plot line goes deep into the fuedel era of japan. And it certainly has enough action in it. Long live Naraku!!! Semjaza
I agree with Panda on Robotech. I think for a lot of people, who remember when Robotech was still relatively new, it was their first real exposure to anime. Sure, it was a combination of a bunch of other stuff with an adjusted storyline, but the heart of it was still intact. I've been buying the remastered DVDs (they look 100 times better than the originals) and I still enjoy the show just as much as I did back when I first saw it. Certainly, a lot of my memories of it are nostalgic, but the show is also just incredibly good by many standards. I enjoy the characters and their plights (well, I hate Lynn Minmei, but so does everyone it seems). There's more character development in that series than possibly any other animated program I can think of (and even tops many live action shows). Characters change dramatically, yet realisticly, over the course of the show... something that I think animation that was usually shown over here completely lacked. I'm not even going to bother to talk about the continuation of it all, through Dana Sterling and everything else. It's all good. I even have all the novels based on the TV show, which I really love lol. Plus, Veritech rock.
Nony
It's hard to choose just one, or even three, because there are so many good animes out there. But, at the moment, tis .hack//sign for me. When I first saw it, it was so different from other animes I had seen, and even though it was confusing, I fell in love with it. That, and the music is very good.
