Welcome to the Underground of ?(Pirates) Scourge of the Spanish Main?. Please post whatever comments, questions, or concerns you may have of this newly created story. I recommend any details that you wish to be known about your character that you would like specifically or widely-known (i.e. distinguishing characteristics or quirks that could be used in other people?s posts when describing your character and how they interact).

I will also be using this area to drive the plot via a chapter system, but keeping the chapters locked here until whenever the story ends. I plan on working the story up at the end of the rpg with custom fonts, pictures, etc. Each character may then receive the entire transcript of events and journal entries to keep however they please. This is going to be pretty epic, ladies and gents!

The Adventure Inn thread will be posted shortly with some help from my friend Alex on the html. Therefore, this underground will be a bit confusing for a couple hours.

Well, the doors to the tavern be open to ye.

Well, I'm still not too sure on my character right now. I mean, like what she looks like or what her name is. What I can give to you right now, is that she is from a rich, aristocratic family. She's a tomboy and ran away from all of the girly events her mother tried to bestow on her. But the las straw as her father arranging her marriage. So she ran away.

I'm not too sure on what her personality will be like, either. But hey, if I tell you all of the details here, it will ruin the fun in the RPG, aye?

This RPG came along at an opportune time. As of late I have been really interested in the old Basque culture and their rich navigational traditions (it is now known that Columbus? crew was made up predominantly of Basques) so this RPG will give me an excuse to do a bit of research on their traditions and culture.

My character, Bernardo Atxaga (swiped from a famous Basque novelist), was a former sea captian whose ship was sunk by Spanish Galleys under the command of the inquisitor general. Atxaga?s nemesis, the inquisitor DeKereon, was after a mysterious artifact that is in Bernardo?s possession. Obviously I have plans to tie in this artifact and his true relation DeKereon during the RPG.

As far as Atxaga goes, he is of average height with jet black hair and a sardonic smile. On land he isn?t much of a threat, although he can handle a rapier. At sea however, he is in his element. His life long experience and knowledge of the ocean would make him and excellent navigator or pilot.

Thought you could use another member of your crew. Plus I'm currious as to how this could all play out. I suppose I could talk about Elizabeth a bit while I'm here.

She's just a very common country woman, who lost her son and husband to the sea. yet instead of being woefull at their loss, she strives to accomplish what they could not with a very solid attitude that leans towards her having nothing to loose. I'd like to express her as a person who strives to change herself completely for a cause. But there isn't anyone who can do that completely without the repricusions of an identiy crisis. Thus is Elizabeth in a nutshell.

It's a really neat Idea you have Drix, good job and Kudos.

The kind of personality I'm really 'feeling' for my characters is a larrikin, an easy-going, swaggering ex-Captain.

A bit of background for my currently nameless character:

Bio: He left his home port at the age of seven, on a merchant ship bound for the West Indies, but was waylaid on the journey by Captain Shaw and his bunch of ruffians on the ship known as the 'Salted Snail'. They captured all of the merchants to sell to slavers, and looted the ship before sinking it. When they sold off the merchants, they kept my character. For the next 9 years, he worked with them on their cycle, as they made forays along coasts, and lived the life of a privateer. One night, in the middle of a raging storm, most of the crew were washed overboard, including their Captain, and two distinct bands were left. The officers, and the rest. Fighting broke out, until all but one of the pirates were dead. Using my characters help, they cleared the decks of bodies, and sailed it back to the nearest port, but barely two day's sail from land, the pirate died of his wounds. My character took over posession of the ship, and named himself Captain. He brought around him a fresh crew, and for the past 5 years they have been roaming the coasts, until their recent encounter with a Spanish fleet...

Weapons: Twin cutlasses on his back, and a bandolier with variously sized and weighted throwing knives.

Name: To be decided.

Age: 21.

Well, I thought about it, and I've decided I'll post up a character profile of my pirate.

Name- Madlynn McCathry

Age- 24

Appearance-

*additions to her garments: a waist-length/rear-length bustle jacket with red satin lining, a leather belt that slings around her waist, pair of brown, lace-up boots, and a traditional buccaneer's hat..with the feather.

Biography- Madlynn was born and raised in the small number of aristocracy in Ireland. She was enrolled in the richest, and most prestigious, of schools. She was brought up prim and proper. However, Madlynn was a true tomboy at heart. Whenever the chance, usually always when she spent time with her father, Madlynn was running around in her knickers and playing swords with her father's canes. She had always dreamed of adventure, and began to research into the pirate's life. Her mother, of course, was repulsed by her daughter's interest and enthusiasm for the culture. Madlynn didn't care, rather, she continued on into her teens of dreaming the pirate's life. She even began to talk differently; only fueling her mother's concerns.

It wasn't until Madlynn was of sixteen years old that her life took a drastic turn. Her father, the man she trusted, had decided enough was enough. He made arrangements for Madlynn to be wedded. Hurt and betrayed, Madlynn ran from her home and never looked back. She traveled on her end for the next eight years, living the freedom she had always dreamed of; although, not yet a pirate.

Weapon[s]- Despite her sweet and innocent appearance, Madlynn is not a weakling female. C'mon, a female in the life of piracy? You know she's got to be packing something. Madlynn carries one cutlass on a hip sling, several throwing daggers under her bustle jacket, and a blunderbuss in a thigh holster underneath her skirt.

Okay... I'm posting again, as promised.

Age: unknown- late teens/early twenties, as far as anyone can tell

Name: Rowan...? (Surname unknown)

Weapons: Usually a pair of hand-crafted twin blades, though sometimes uses other blades such as knives or a single Scottish bastard sword.

Appearance: Rowan is average in height but has small bone-structure, and her strength is often underestimated because of her size and gender.

She wears comfortable, loose-fitting attire that would be considered "unladylike" for the times... but that allow her the freedom of movement in battle. Dressed all in black, her accessories include her dual back-scabbord- which is tied with a red sash and outfitted with her favorite (self-forged)twin swords, her boots, an intricately embossed pair of leather bracers (containing the knives she will sometimes use), her gauntlets, and a red ribbon in her braided, raven-black hair. She wears a small, close-fitting locket of silver around her neck with the simple rune for "strength" engraved upon its cover. She has tattoos like thin, delicate war-paint streaks across her cheeks and a scar across her left brow... presumably from a blade of some sort... but it does not detract from her beauty.

Bio: No one knows much about her (or her past) but that she escaped capture when the armada overcame the last vessel she was aboard and hanged its captain and crew... and that now she silently thirsts to avenge them. Judging by her accent (though she seldom speaks) ,she hails from the land of the red-haired Saxons.

She sees her crew as her family and the sea and vessel as her home, and is therefore loyal to the death to both captain and crew.

Although she is small and quiet, she is a swift, strong, and lethal opponent- using it to her advantage that she is underestimated by her enemies.

Though she is both humble and quiet, when her blades are drawn, blood and death are emminent.
No one would accuse her of arrogance... just of being extraordinarily skilled at what she does.

Her new crew likes and respects her, but she remains a mystery to them... at least for now...

Sorry I don't have a picture to post- I guess you'll just have to imagine my character...:smirk:

I'll edit my journal entry to include a journal date and to edit the dialect for the character's accent.

Name: Laslow McGrath

Age: 34

Bio: Laslow was born in London to a working class family. At an early age he went to work for a metal smith and quickly developed a hate toward the blacksmith. The man had Laslow moving hot iron and other assorted metals nonstop for the entire nine hour work day. He'd come home at night burned and crying, but he loved his family, especially his brother who was eight years older and his best friend. The little money he earned went to help buy food for the family and to pay the rent.

When he turned twenty he joined the Navy, quicly taking a taste to alcohol at the ports their ship frequented. He was known to have his friend carry him home after a bit of shoreleave. Three years into his service his mother died from the flu. His father sunk into a deression and eventually lost the house from not working enough. He lived on the streets for a year and died during a coldspell the following winter.

Laslow tried to keep in touch with his brother, but his location continuously changed. The last letter, about four months ago, had him in the Cayman islands working in a butchers shop. He wrote back immediately, but hasn't recieved a responce yet.

During his service, Laslow became a raging alcoholic, stealing from the ships stash whenever they weren't at port, and even bartering personal objects for someone elses rum rations. Several times, the morning after, he's promised to get sober, but it never pans out.

Appearance:

Quirks: When Laslow is hung over, he tends to lose all track of time, even if he's working hard.

Name: Jared Piper

Age: 20

Background: From a semi-respectable family, ran away in his youth and tried to make his way through the world. Has pursued a variety of trades, including breadmaking and thievery.

Notable Psychological Trait: Jared has the knack to size people up immediately. Years of being the 'little guy' has made him weary of others - he'd rather avoid a fight than seek it out. But now that he's in his prime, he's grown a bit and, although still small, is quick on his feet and reliable in a fight.

His knack sometimes extends to an almost ESP-like knowledge of when something is going to happen. There have been times he has left a tavern early in the evening and a fight or a fire has broken out not an hour later.

Physical Description: Jared is small - about 5"5'. Not very muscular, but his strength would suprise others. As previously mentioned, he is very quick on his feet.

Weapons: Although he is not trained in the use of weapons, Jared is skillful with a knife and has been in his fair share of tavern brawls.

Purpose: Jared's purpose in joining a pirate's crew is two-fold. On the surface, it is to find a way to get food and get something to do. Underneath, though, Jared has a desire to make a name for himself. Already he dreams of owning his own pirate ship and plundering until he can retire with wealth.

Avast!

The RPG has officially begun! I hope you all enjoy the introductory post! I couldn?t seem to work the text the way I wanted, so you may feel it is a bit lacking. Forgive that one; I assure you the rest will be back to the quality you can expect from me. Now, as for your posts? please take as long as you need. This introductory chapter will include ALL of the characters. Feel free to give your introductions to each other in standard RP fashion or in journal form. I do want you to try to include both and mix it up however you please. Both quality and a decent amount of content will be expected in order to keep our interactions and plots moving. We?ll have the ship sailing after most people have had a chance to post!

The first chapter: Catching the Wind of Fortune will deal with the crew?s introduction to each other. They are more formal introductions as opposed to the informal meetings in the tavern where you were initially recruited. You?ll be able to express some of the unique qualities of your characters, as well as the talents you may possess. This will also be a time to flex your creative muscle and start developing some character relationships. Have at it, you scurvy dogs!

Yer faithful Captain,
Drix

*EDIT*
I've been asked by a few people in the RP concerning the post length that I'm looking for. While quantity is never a substitute for quality, I think this RPG could use a post style that is "meatier" than most. That means I want you all to take as much time as you need to post to give it that extra content, that extra length. Not for the sake of length, but for the sake of story. Baron's quality was excellent, but his post could have been longer, mostly due to his concern over using "real time". You can include as much "real time" action as you want and as many journal entries as you want. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM!
