2010DigitalBoy
2005 is already a good year with the releases of Thel Legend of Zelda the Minish Cap, Resident Evil 4, and Mercenaries. If htis manages to stay up all year, then you could come here to talk bout your favorite games released this year. Personally, Ive only played The Minish Cap, which is a really great game. There are plenty of intriguing puzzles and great sidequests. The dungeons and boss battles were fun and innovative. The only problem is that it takes a maximum of nine hours to beat. I cant wait until fire Emblem for Gamecube comes out.
Semjaza
Minish Cap certainly isn't my favorite Zelda game, but it's still a very good one. I'd say it's a worthy entry in the series and will likely remain one of the better games this year. I doubt most people would finish it in nine hours, especially if they even remotely tried to get some of the sidequests and kinstone things finished. Same goes for RE4, which is one of the better games I've played in the last several years and certainly the best game in the entire series as far as I'm concerned. There's a few games I'm really looking forward to. I'm only going to list the five that come to mind first... Call of the Cthulu I love H.P. Lovecraft, which this is inspired by... although it's not a direct adaptation of his writings, but more of a combination of his stuff and stories by other horror writers (others have continued the Cthulu Mythos since his death). It's obviously a horror game, but seemingly more in the vein of Eternal Darkness. It also has that whole sanity idea, but the game has no visible health, magic or sanity meters. These are instead figured out through your characters onscreen actions. Anyway, looking forward to it a lot. I think it hits in March, after many delays. Area 51 I just think this looks fun. I've played the demo, which seemed like a nice combination of The Suffering (which is severely, severely underrated) and alien shooter FPS games. Pretty much just offers the types of things I'm interested. Dragon Quest VIII I love the series and this game looks phenominal. I can't wait to finally play it... whenever the hell it comes out. Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, in my opinion, was the best RPG of last year on any platform. This will likely be the best RPG of this year outside of Dragon Quest VIII, at least for me. In Japan this game was called Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, but was renamed for the US, I assume to tie it together with the last SMT as the start of a franchise here. Better graphics, fully voice acted, a different battle system style, etc. I can't wait for it. Radiata Stories A Square-Enix game made by Tri-Ace... who are mostly known for the games they've done for Enix in the past. Supposedly an amazingly good game according to Japanese articles. It looks and sounds pretty interesting, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to The Legend of Zelda, Killer7, Zoo Keeper on DS (probably out by now), Star Fox Assault (assuming it turned out well), DK Jungle Beat, Castlevania DS, Katamari Damacy 2, The Suffering 2, Sega Classics Collection, Musashi Samurai Legend, Stella Deus, etc.
W00t,iM uNbAnNd
I am guessing that the most successful games this year will be RE4, Socom 3 (if it happens), FFXII, and The next installment of Rainbow Six 3. The most successful new system will be the PSP, which will own the Nintendo DS on the market.
jedite
I'm looking forward to Devil May Cry 3. I think that'll be a good game of 2005, because they give back Dante's personality in DMC3, which they discarded in DMC2. I don't think that the PSP is going to do well against the DS, due to all the bad things that have been said about it's fragility. Also, Nintendo has owned the handheld market for a long time, and I think they will continue to.
Desbreko
Just to remind people, before a DS vs. PSP debate breaks out, we already have a thread for that: PSP or Nintendo DS? I really loved The Minish Cap, and though the it's not without its disappointments, it'll probably be one of my favorite games of the year. Not sure how long it took me to beat it, but it was a decent length of time for a 2D Zelda. Though regardless of overall length, I still wish they had put in a full eight dungeons. The six that there are were really fun, and I wanted more. And obviously I'm really looking forward to the new Zelda on the GCN. I know I just keep saying this, but I absolutely cannot wait to see how massive the overworld will be, and how much exploring there'll be. Plus, any improvements to the TWW combat system. It was tons of fun to just waste a room full of baddies in TWW, so I have high hopes for this new game. Beyond that, I haven't actually thought too much about upcoming games in 2005 -- I still need to catch up with some titles released Q4 2004. Tales of Symphonia, FFI&II, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. ... There were way too many awesome games released just before Christmas to keep up with. Star Fox Assault looks promising, though. It was the cover story for the latest issue of Nintendo Power, but I've only skimmed the article so far, so I'll have to come back to it later.
M.Ali
Aww man, I could just go on and on about the games I'd love to see this year, but that'd be a really long post, so I'll just list the ones that I'm really estatic about.
And obviously I'm really looking forward to the new Zelda on the GCN. Like Desbreko, I too can't wait to see so how much exploring can be done, seeing the limits as to how far Link can travel will be pretty interesting.^_^
I cant wait until fire Emblem for Gamecube comes out.
I didn't know that Fire Emblem was coming to Gamecube, but I can say that I wasn't surprised though. Now if only Nintendo could do the same for Earthbound... The last game I'm really estatic about is Kingdom Hearts II. The last one kinda left me in suspense, so I'm really expecting great things from this game.
Baron Samedi
Even though I probably won't be getting it [Not enough time for serious gaming...] Oblivion by Bethesda [the same folks who made Morrowind], looks to be a stunner. I really enjoyed Morrowind, and from all reports Oblivion is going to be mind-blowing. A real ripper of a game. But, I doubt whether I'll have as much time next year as I had last year, so that might have to wait. What I am really, really hanging out for is Battlefield 2. I've been an avid Battlefielder from 1942, through Road To Rome and Secret Weapons, right up to Vietnam. I have DC as well [what kind of BF gamer doesn't?] but I don't really play it. Vietnam is more my style. But Battlefield 2 is looking to be an excellent game. It should be released sometime this year, and I am waiting with bated breath.
Burori
Well in my opinion I am hoping that Final Fantasy XII comes out cause that is looking all so sweet. The graphics on it are baffoling(sp?). Just in its rear that I am also itching to try is Kingdom Hearts II and The Legend of Zelda (drools) Why? Well Kingdom Hearts Storyline is amazing in my tastes and I love the new system of holding two keyblades (double the blades, double the trouble) as for FF XII I am also looking forward to it's plot. But for Zelda....He's a friggin adult what more can you ask? I mean I am a zelda fan by far but this is what I wanted an adult Link. It's always been a youngen so finally they made an adult. Sheikahmon
My opinion of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (a 2004 game, I know, but I didn't want to mess up the forum by remaking an overdone thread) is largely positive, but I somewhat detest the plot and returning characters. I love the new characters, especially the ones who get killed (even Vexen, go-go Hagman!). I can't wait for KH 2 and particularly want to see Axel in 3-D, wow look at that hair! I also hope that this year the rumors of Golden Sun 3 will come true.
Shinmaru
Of the games released in 2005 so far, I've bought Zelda: Minish Cap and Resident Evil 4. Minish Cap is a solid, if slightly disappointing at first, entry into the Zelda series. I wish it had more dungeons, which seems to be my major beef with Zelda games as of late. Resident Evil 4, on the other hand, is phenomenal, and the best game released in a long while. It's certainly the best game on the GameCube, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to the new Legend of Zelda game, along with everyone else. Zelda is my favorite gaming series, and I'm eager to see the direction Nintendo goes with the more realistic, 'mature' look (though I honestly do wish that Nintendo had gone further with the cel-shaded look of Wind Waker - screw the haters, I think Wind Waker looked damn gorgeous). Also, as Tony mentioned very briefly, Castlevania DS. I liked the Castlevania games that were released on the GBA, and I'm hoping that the DS game inches ever closer to the sublime greatness that was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I only have one game for my DS right now, Super Mario 64 DS, so I'll be glad to see another game that's worthy of my money for the DS. Other than that, I'll wait and see what other games get a bit more buzz before I decide to spend any money. I've been buying less games for a while now, because money is a bit tight, so I have to be pretty damn careful about which games I decide to go after lol. Both are excellent games that I've spent a lot of time with. Their story modes may be a bit short, but I love beating high scores, so I play Wario Ware pretty often. I've not gotten around to getting Zoo Keeper yet, but it's basically that game on my site times 100 lol
Drizzt Do'urden
There are actually a few games I'm really looking forward too. Legend of Zelda coming out for the GC is looking like its going to be Great. Amazing CG, I'm sure the battle system is worthy of the LOZ series, I personally think that the best zelda game so far has been LOZ: A link to the past for the SNES, but this one just may top that. Dyanasty Warriors V- The long running series has provided me with many hours of Hacking/slashing/ impaling/ and just plain killing for years. DW 4 tookd the series in a downward spiral, but if the hype is any indicator the new addition to the series is going to be great. Finally FF XII is going to be the death of my PS2, If the articles are any indication this is going to be the FF fans answer to FF VII (though in my opionion its deffinateally not the best in the series, I enjoyed FFX myself) (If anyone could tell me the deffinate date for FFXII please PM me with it)
