ChibiHorsewoman
I'd be rich. This is not to be confused with the You'd pay a million dollars to see... thread, This one stands on it's own because it asks what would you do with a million, so yeah, completely and utterly unique...just like everyone else...I'm going to get a burn out 3 threads today :faint: Well if I had a million dollars after taxes I'd pay off my bills and my student loan. Then I'd buy the rest of the Urban Decay body powders I don't have. They're flavored body powders and I want to have the rest of them. Hey come on they're $25 a piece and I already have 3. After that I'd take a trip to Vegas and use $500 on the slots...I hope I'd win some money. Then I'd go home put the rest in savings and go back to work. A million dollars really isn't all that much...stupid Bare Naked Ladies song... :flaming: So, what would you do ?
Juu
If this thread was more along the lines of 'If I became a filthy rich spoilt bastard, I would...' THEN I would: 1) Travel to as many places around the world [or space!] and spend some time doing some volunteer work helping poor families, etc. 2) Forget about going to law school and blah, just go headfirst into a music/artsy career. [Since I've got the money.] 3) Drive/walk around in circles in foreign countries without a map and just wander with endless amounts of inspiration slapping me in every direction. 4) Buy a really big house. [Which is the size of a small African nation.] 5) Let all of my closest friends live in that house. 6) Dye my hair properly. [Damn lady at salon really mucked my hair and you can hardly see the colours.] 7) Go to all the gigs I want. [All over the world.] 8) Buy my way backstage to meet the bands I want. 9) Have a lot of pets. 10) Have a lot of guitars/amps/mics/effects. 11) Have a really big place to practice. 12) Go shopping in Europe, Korea and Japan. Buy everything and not look back. 13) Buy lots and lots of nutella. 14) Buy a few better cameras. [As I'm going to break a few.] 15) Ride an elephant. 16) Take yoga. 17) Get a lot of massages. 18) Sleep for four days straight. 19) Get a better mp3 player. 20) Have a private jet. 21) Buy more socks. [They keep vanishing.] 22) Cover an entire room with paint designs. 23) Hire a bunch of butch men to protect Celia [from perverted truck drivers] and me [from Mexican bums]. 24) Build a pretzel factory across the street from the white house. Ahh, one can dream. ^-^
Annie
Haha! Juu, you are so great. The pretzel factory was my favorite. What would I do with a million dollars? That is hard to say. I think I'd (looking at it realistically) buy a house of my own in California, a truck, food, and some male entertainment. Whatever's left of that, I'd save it. Boring? Yeah, but I'm not one for eccentric spending. I buy what's practical. "But Annalisse, isn't the male entertainment a bit-" Never. How dare you ask. That is vital to a woman's health >:O
Morpheus
*cough* useless *cough* I would: 1)Get a Portable Media Player, PDA, and Camera...............................$001,000 2)Buy a nice House...................................................................$300,000 3)Outfit that house with good appliances, a theater, and other amenities..$045,000 4)Get a nice car.......................................................................$025,000 5)New Desktop and laptop..........................................................$002,000 6)Movies, Music, and Games........................................................$009,000 7)Hosting and Domain Name registration for my website.......................$001,000 8)Pool..................................................................................$001,000 9)100 acres...........................................................................$100,000 10)New Cell phone and plan........................................................$000,500 11)Pool table..........................................................................$000,500 12)Bumper pool table................................................................$000,200 13)Card Table.........................................................................$000,500 14)2 Bowling lanes...................................................................$005,000 15)Total................................................................................$490,700 I would then put the remaining 509,300 in a bank account and haggle it up to about 10% interest compounded daily, and live off of the $53,997.90 the money will make in interest every year. Dragonboym2
I'd put it in the bank. Hey, it's realistic right? OR...buy my own big screen t.v., and put the rest in the bank. Mike
Zenriek
Woo, that's a lot of money.. Though I'd never get that much at one time, here's what I'd do- 1- Go to Japan, stay there for a fews months, then come back to the US 2- Take a road trip around the US and Canada with my friends 3- Pay off any bills, and keep money for college (not old enough yet) 4- Get some new clothes, books, mangas, animes, etc. (shopping spree) 5- Get a slightly large apartment to share with two select friends 6- Put the rest in the bank for later fun and when I feel crazy I know it doesn't sound like much fun, but hey, I can always get ideas from my friends how to spend the money. Of course, I'd have to give some to them as well...
Retribution
I would: 1. Buy all the manga I could get my hands on. [$10,000] 2. Buy a new laptop. [$2,000] 3. Better wireless internet. [$100] 4. Better cars for my family. [$75,000] 5. Rennovate my home (it's big enough now). [$50,000] 5. Buy some awesome paintings/photography, and put it all throughout my house. [$50,000] 6. Pay taxes [however much] 7. Save the rest. 8. Oh yeah... charity. I don't feel like adding up all the totals and what not. All I know is that I have a substantial amount of cash left. Can you say early retirement? xD
Panda
If I had a million dollars I would pay off all my bills, all of my parents/inlaws/siblings bills, then deposit the rest and live off of the interest. I would probably spend my time going to anime conventions and traveling around the world. Otherwise I don't think I would change much else. I don't need a huge house or fancy car, so I guess you can say I am a fairly easy keeper.
Brasil
No question in my mind about what I'd do with a cool million. I'd hire an assassin to...remove the incompetent people on Symantec's Tech Support team. Just delete their existence, cookies, back-ups...everything. I want their hard drives erased. DeadSeraphim
If I had a million, it's quite probable I'd put a good $300 000 in the bank, lol, to accumulate interest. =P All the rest would be blown on stuff, of course, like, say, two $30 000 PowerMac G5s, lol. And I'd probably spend enough to get Hevn in Australia and set her up for life. ^_^; Oh, and can't forget bribing the education system to get me my senior certificate. >>;
Manic Webb
It's funny. Just the other day, I was thinking about what I'd do with the pay advance a record executive would give me for recording an album (which is typically a cool million). I'll have to adjust my list slightly, as this situation won't require me to spend any money on a recording studio, promotions, or a production team. First, I'd invest $100,000 of it in stock. Good stock. I'd really like to get a small piece of Pixar, to tell the truth. Then I'd spend between $200,000 and $500,000 buying and furnishing a new house; preferably one that is not on the beach or a hill with a very weak foundation. I live in California, and realtors love unloading that kind of property on people who don't realize their homes will eventually fall, slide, or drift out to sea. Speaking of which, I'd go into realty. I'd also spend $20,000 on a new car. I'd buy it all at once, so the monthly payments don't eventually add to a few thousand dollars more than what I originally started paying for. $80,000 would go to charity, specifically community centers that'll keep young people out of the streets. Considering the amount money that already gets donated to cancer and AIDS researchers every year, I seriously doubt they're trying that hard, and I don't want to throw my money to yet another biologist who drives a Benz. I'd keep the remaining $300,000. I'd also maintain a steady job, because there's no way $300,000 is gonna last me until I'm 65 years old (where social security will kick in, assuming a certain President doesn't ruin it). --EDIT-- I want to add onto this thread, if I may. Imagine a filthy rich uncle of yours died recently. In their will, they gave you 2 options: 1) You get $30,000,000 2) A challenge. Spend $1,000,000 per day, every day for 30 days. You can't own anything you spend the money on, and you're not allowed to donate to charity or splurge it on gifts for your friends. If you've spent all of the money by the end of the 30 days, you'll get $300,000,000 (that's a whole 'nother 0, folks). However, you're not allowed to tell anyone why you're spending all of this money. Which would you pick? (Man, I love that movie)
Fall
I'd buy a HRT 427 Holden Monaro. I'd spend any amount of money to get one I'd focus on a superb sound system.

Two of the Pioneer 12-inch TS-W5000SPL Dual Voice Coil Subwoofers. Each sub with 5000 watts max, totaling 10000 watts max together, both each with power handling. These subs require, and have, intergrated cooling systems in each. 3-Layer Fibre Woven Radial Rubber Surround. One of these weigh in at 32.4kg by itself. For $6000 ($3000 for one of these), I think it's a good buy.
A 10000 watt amplifier. Yeah. I'd have alot of trouble finding an amp that can support both subs to the max. output. For a half decent amp that could decently support both these subs, I'd expect to pay well over a grand or two. I'd think about somehow hooking in two decent 5000 watt amps, one for each sub, that way working each sub to their full capabilities. A Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite MPH10K, 2500 watts max on 4 channels, 10000 watts max total output.
A Pioneer Universal Audio Processor for an equalizer. Worth $500.
A Pioneer DEH-P90HDD Headdeck. A 10GB harddrive. CD/R/RW/MP3/USB Memory Stick player. It can even record songs from a CD to the harddrive. Worth $2,100.
Two Pioneer Reference Series TS-T3PRS 1.25-inch tweaters. $350.
Two Pioneer "six-be-nines" (6-inches by 9-inches) REV Series two-way speakers. 330 watts max music power. $220.
Yeah, I like Pioneer. After I get this sound system all together, I'd probably work on my engine and a bodykit, not that a HRT Monaro would need any work to its motor or its appearance at all. ...a million dollar car. Sara
(Man, I love that movie)
So, yeah, Manic is a dork. :) Honestly, I can't fathom what I'd do with that much money. I don't really need anything right now. If it were just the sort of wonderful hypothetical situation where the sum just magically (and legally) apears....hm. I'd probably end up giving huge amounts of money away to my friends. The vast majority would go in the bank, just because I wouldn't know what else to do with it. I would not spend it to see Paris Hilton attacked by rabid animals. Some day, I would like to go on some sort of grand trip with a friend or two and do the tourist bit. That would be something to do with a lot of money that was just sitting around for some reason. Actually, that's probably it. I'd like to travel around a bit. With company, though, because it's pretty lonely being far from home without any friends. Other things I'd like to own some day (when I have some money) are the volumes of the SANDMAN anthology, maybe a nice set of markers. Some bookshelves. I'd buy a new computer at some point, but I don't need one right now. If it were a few years later in my life and I were interested in starting a business, I'd use the money as capital. If I were still in college, some of it would be used for textbooks and whatever other fees they tack on to my student account. Do I sound horribly mundane here? very cherry, Sara
elfpirate
I would take care of my loved ones (fully paid-for homes, vehicles, etc...)and make sure that my parents would never have to work again- because they have worked so hard for so long that that they should have the opportunity to relax and do the things that they enjoy doing- not the things that they have to do... and pay for my family to travel to everywhere they've wanted to go to but never could afford. And I would pay for all my schooling up-front, buy my very own chopper (once I finish flight school), buy myself a little bit of property, build a house, and set up a savings account for my child's college costs. If there was anything left after that, I would give it all to a variety of charitable causes.
James
Only a million? Bleh. I'd probably invest some of it in property (so that I can earn rent from it in the longterm). I'd use the rest to pay off things (house for my parents and school fees). Then I'd buy myself a unit and a car...and I don't know what I'd do with the rest. Maybe I'd give some of it to family and friends, although a million dollars really isn't a lot of money in this day and age. I mean, buying a house and car would easily set you back nearly half that amount (assuming you buy a reasonably nice house and car, without actually buying a mansion lol).
Arcadia
It's sort of funny how most of us would invest some portion of that, because a million dollars isn't quite enough and we need to make more. :p ...With that said, I would also invest a decent amount of that million in real estate or something else equally profitable. I should also hope that with all that money, some portion of it goes to charity, but I'm not going to lie when I say that I'll focus on taking care of myself first. And that means paying off student loans and other college expenses. And then I would buy a car. Either a Mini Cooper, because they look like so much crazy fun or a 2005 Mustang, because they are so deliciously beautiful and I want one. Both would, of course, be candy apple red and very new and shiny. They would also have leather interiors, lovely stereo systems, and a big wonderful sun roof (if I can help it). I love convertibles as much as the next filthy rich girl, but the thought of getting into an accident in one while speeding down the highway somewhere is enough to turn off that idea. After I buy myself a car, I'd probably start buying crap for my family. Or I might just give them a whole bunch of money and let them buy the crap. Although I think I'd get my little brother a vespa. Because he needs more ways to fall and split his head open, don't you know. With whatever's left, I'd travel with friends (because as Sara mentioned, traveling alone is not where it's at). There would be a few of us and we'd spend a little bit of time everywhere, enjoying the sights, meeting beautiful foreign men, etc. etc. It would be deathly cool to buy a big boat and then sail around to places. I love boats and I love the water, and it would be like my own personal cruise with all my best friends... some good times right there. Now, Manic's challenge. As much as I'd like to think that I could spend a million dollars a day for thirty days, after a while I'd probably be burnt out. So I'll just take the first option and the thirty million, thank you. (I have no idea what movie that is.)
ChibiHorsewoman
Well, on further consideration I'd have to add that I'd take my husband's cousin along with me to vegas and let her have some spending money. I'd also take my best friend along because she's never been to vegas. While in Vegas I'd want to go get my vows renewed at the Flamingo Hilton (they have a really kick arse pool area and gardens) so I'd have to fly in my parents, Lincoln's best friend and my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. Not my mother-in-law though because she's just too...too I don't know. But yeah a million isn't all that much when you think about how much some things cost... I need to invest and put some away for my daughter.
Now, Manic's challenge. W00t,iM uNbAnNd
I would make sure my million dollars would go towards research for a cure or treatment that could battle Chrons' Disease.
