ChibiHorsewoman
Lincoln won't help me with a thread in the longe so I made one here instead Daria as many of you may remember was a cartoon that aired on MTV from I believe 1996 until 2002. And the main character was a girl named Daria who was cynical and bitingly sarcastic. I liked this show because the character wasn't pretty or popular. She was emberassed by her parents and annoyed by her sister and she annoyed her sister. She was an outcast because she was smart. So does anyone else have anything to share?
the_fizz
So does anyone else have anything to share?
I luv this show! I still watch it on The N! I agree with you on why you luved it, but you forgot to mention Trent. What a cutie! The way he is so mellow and all into his band, just reminds me of so many of my ex's and male friends of mine in high school! LoL Also, the way Daria was able to realize who she is and over come all the hard stuff. She turns it all around, as if the world is what is wrong and she is the normal one! Plus, she is smart enough to know how to make this work for her! Great show!!!
Shinmaru
I love Daria, though I've not had the opportunity to watch the show in a long time. I never watched it much during its initial run on MTV, but I took the time to watch it when it was introduced on The N with a marathon. I loved the show immediately and watched it a lot over the next few months. However, The N's added a lot of other shows, and it seems that Daria is on really, really late at night now, and I don't stay up late enough to watch it. Sucks because Daria's the only show I'd ever consider watching on The N. I liked the show a lot, because it wasn't your run-of-the-mill teen show. It always struck me as a bit more representative of what teen life is like. At least, the stuff going on in Daria are more how I see things anyway lol. Also, I like Daria as a character a lot, because she's witty and sarcastic, but it never really seemed forced or anything. A lot of shows, you'll see this stupid *** character try to be cool and sarcastic, but he ends up looking like an idiot. Daria does it well. I'm going to check The N's scheduling, because I really want to start watching Daria again lol.
future girl
Daria is one of my favorites, I've seen pretty much all the episodes and have been a die-hard fan since day one. She's just so very witty and sarcastic, it's the best interpretation of dry humor I've yet to see on tv. My one dissapointment in the show was that she never hooked up with Trent.
I didn't like the Tom/Jane/Daria love triangle angle they gave the show toward the end, frankly it depressed me. Daria always struck me as the type of chick that doesn't steal her best friend's boyfriends, but alas.
I think her and Trent belong together ::nods:: Still it's really good, all the characters are interesting and funny by themselves, but Daria's dry sarcastic commentary ties the whole thing together and makes it ******* priceless :)
Manic Webb
Well, the reason Daria could never end up with Trent is because she's an exaggerrative realist. In the episode where Quinn tried to teach Daria how to fantasize, Daria imagined herself with a good job, and supporting Trent, who never got up off of the couch. In fact, the fantasy ended with Trent saying they never got married because he overslept on that day. Tom was better, but not much better. I'm sure no one ever imagined Daria stealing Jane's boyfriend, but it showed that Daria was clearly caught in a situation she couldn't control. She tried to hate Tom, but they just got along so much better than he got along with Jane. What disappointed me, however, was that Daria actually bothered to get in a relationship with him after he broke up with Jane. It made Daria look like a moral hypocrit, but it also showed us that she wasn't as perfect as she wanted the world to be. I was so happy when they broke up. If there was one thing Tom was good for, however, it was getting Daria to act. The first few seasons of the show were founded on Daria pointing out the faults of those around her, but never actually doing anything about it. She was always a spectator in a world gone wrong. Tom got her to actually confront the system and do something about it... even if it didn't work. One thing that always struck me about the show was its message that life isn't fair, and that there isn't always a lesson learned at the end of the episode. I remember the episode where Jane joined the track team. In the end, Daria and Jane realized they failed at turning around a corrupt athletic/academic system, and figured that it only proved that the school really was preparing them for the real world. A bitter-sweet victory, if a victory at all. The show wallowed in realism.
future girl
But that same episode ends with Daria having another fantasy of her and Trent in a nice house and he's wearing a smoking jacket and smoking a pipe and she's all dressed up and they kiss! I think there were too many episodes that made it seem like maybe Trent and Daria were right for each other, to then just randomly throw in Tom. I guess it's a better twist than the expected, but still. I don't think Tom was a bad character, I just think he was an awkward mix. I always stem my feelings for Trent from the episode where they're taking a road trip to a music festival. He's secretly afraid of failure, but at least for now he can says he's doing exactly what he wants with his life. So yea, I'm a Trent fan girl all the way no matter what!

ChibiHorsewoman
Didn't Daria get with Janes ex, oh i can't remember his name, i still watch it now, it's on at 4:30 on MTV2
His name was Tom. Ok, MTV2 at 4:30. Is that AM or PM? and what time zone? This post wasn't much help. Daria ended up
breaking up with Tom in the last movie...is it college yet.
I think it was because of the whole admitance thing. Go figure. I hope in a few more years MTV will do a 10 year reunion and maybe we can see what happened with everyone. Like in that Write where it hurts episode
duoikari
Sorry my time zone England, at now in england it's 9:33am and in america it's 6:04. So Daria starts at 4:30 my time, i forgot the name of a her boyfriend Tom was Jane's ex. I like the episode where they have to fix the naming thing in the garden at Janes house. I also think that Downtown is good it like Daria but in new york, and with geeks and rocker.
Ein08
I LOVE DARIA!! O_O I actually never knew, until now, that it aired on MTV. I did start watching it on The N, and loved it immediately. Daria is my favorite character because of her biting wit and sarcasm (that slightly reminds me of myself), although Daria's family and Jane are pretty funny as well. It sucks that Daria is on very late on The N, when it airs at all. Daria is pretty much the only show, in my opinion, that is worth watching on The N, as it is the best representation of teenage life, also in my opinion, than the other melodramatic teenage soap operas they have currently running. A weird Daria tidbit for fans such as myself: Do you ever watch Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I was channel-surfing one day when I landed on that show, and the man that was playing happened to be introducing the person he brought along with him to the show. (His cousin or sister or something.) He mentioned that she was the voice of Daria's principal! The woman did the principal's voice right on the air. What a coincidence. ^_~
