What is your Favorite RPG?

My standing and forever favorite is Final Fantasy 8. It seems like everybody hates it and a few people like it, but I really love it. It gives an amount of emotional depth that I hadn't really seen before in videogames. The graphics aren't very good by today's standards, but the cutscenes are frequent and usually pretty cool. (Although FF9 takes the cake for cool cinematics. Gotta love watching Bahamut blow crap up)

I also like the junction system. It can be confusing and complex, but it lets you customize your character. In most games, characters will be forced into a particuar role. With junctioins, anyone can be your main spell caster or main fighter. Also, I loved being able to make myself completely immune to an element or status. Otherwise, I would never have beaten a single Marlboro.

I have to mention Chrono Trigger, too. Simply put, it's a great game. I started playing it on SNES, way back when, and bought it for PS1 when it came out. Unfortunately, that game is effin hard. Or I suck. One of the two. I'm stuck on magus and cannot seem to kill him. Frustrating. Though I can't wait to get
him
as a character.

I sure everyone can guess mine just from my avatar and signature. Zelda has always been my favirote RPG series. I never get tired of playing Zelda. I like the hero rescuing a princess from evil theme and I think Zelda captures that style quite well.

I also love Lunar Silver Story and Lunar II. The anime cut scenes for these two games just bring the whole story alive. Plus it's full of interactions between the characters that make it fun. So many series don't put enough into the relationship between characters. I like that aspect of this series.

I'm also a Final Fantasy fan as well. FF8 is my favirote, but only because it was the first FF game I ever played. I really liked the concept of summoning Guardians to help you fight battles.
There are alot of others that I really like but those three are definatly my favirotes.

edit: I wasn't sure if you meant me too in your post James, but regardless I added a bit more, I hope this makes my post better. :animesigh espically since I agree that just listing the games is a pointless post. :D

Dude to start of my 1st favorite is Kingdom Hearts on the PS2 the game is soo solid & good in every way I don't care if I beatin it 6 times it's so addicting like hell.

2nd.Final Fantasy VII- so far the best damn rpg ever but to me it can't beat Kingdom Hearts but you get to see Cloud, Sheporiath, and Yuffie in both nice.

3rd.Tales of Symphonia-great it's like Star Ocean but cartoony, and a lot cooler best thing is the multi player sooo awsome.

I would also say the Zelda series but don't have to that and Kingdom Hearts ties for 1st place nothin to say Zelda is a great game.

my favourite rpgs are the final fantasy series but i like ff7 and ffx the most.

ff7 for their major breakthrough in rpg with the 3d polygon and the cut scenes and the dark storyline and the unique gameplay of using materia.

ffx for the complex storyline and all the superb fmv and also the new innovative sphere grid system.

Hmm... Tough question, actually. I have many favourites, just because it's so hard to choose just one.

Chrono Trigger is one of them. Although I'd have to agree that this is kinda overrated, its still one of the greatest games I've ever played. I can understand why its overrated though... It really is unique. The battle system was perfect. I loved it. One of the few games where I don't mind fighting. The characters were balanced out so that if you want to use a certain power, you have to use that character, not just anyone you want. (As much as I love FF7, I hated how you could choose anyone to be your team and they can be any type you want... Just eliminated the use of other characters.)

Next would be Grandia. I didn't think anything could match Chrono Trigger's battle system, but Grandia is pretty much an advanced version of it. I loved fighting, and I loved the story. It was so happy and innocent... I love games like that, where the characters and story is simple. Grandia executed it in such a way though that it didn't seem so cliched. Not only that, but I really liked how it was 3D but using sprites. (I like that style... And like Legend of Mana's especially.) I got hooked to this game.

Legend of Zelda series. Now would this count? Its not really an RPG... Its more Action/Adventure with RPG elements, but I'll include it here anyways. Classic game. Pretty much every gamer knows it. I loved fighting... and actually, I looked for things to fight here, which is really rare for me to do in games. (Mostly because they're so repetitive.) There's not much need for explanation here right? It may be overrated, but its overrated for a reason! I really can't wait until the new LoZ comes out this year. :D

And other games I'll mention but not explain... Dewprism (Threads of Fate), and Final Fantasy 7. Great games, they are. :)
C'mon guys, this is no good. You need to tell us why[/i'] these are your favourites; simply listing names isn't enough. Please pay attention to our quality requirements.
James is right, and anyone posting in favorite threads and the like would do well to read the Favorite Thread Guidelines sticky thread at the top of the forum thread listings. This has gotten to be more of a problem lately, so I'm going to be taking it more seriously. That means warnings sent out after fewer offenses, and bans shortly after if there's a failure to improve. With the rules screaming "quality!" and a sticky thread spelling things out as clear as they can be, no one has an excuse.
