Dmitri_Dragoon
Top five bands aye? Difficult, but not that hard. 5. Linkin Park - Not really my most favorite, but I prefer them over others. I could do without the rap though. 4. Drowning Pool - I liked Drowning Pool when Dave Williams was singer, and I like Drowning Pool now that Jason Jones is singer. 3. Fountains of Wayne - Not because of "Stacy's Mom." But because it is a good band that one can sing along with. 2. Anthrax - Mostly with John Bush on vocals. He is probably the best singer they have had yet. Especially enjoy "Safe Home." In fact, Anthrax was at one time one of the leaders in heavy metal back in the '80's. Record companies were their eventual downfall, though, they now are fighting their way back to the top. Far better than Metallica could ever wish to be. 1. Motorhead - They are absolutely the Gods of Rock. They are in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame and are still widely known. Lemmy, lead singer, who is nearing 60 years of age, is still singing with his own unique voice.
noelmvilla
Since I love certain kinds of music, I'll give a say. 1. LINKIN PARK - Can you say "OBSESSION"? I don't have 6 soundtracks, a DVD, a poster, T-shirts and other mechandise for nothing, y'know! 2. Porno Grafitti - I love J-music. You gotta love J-music. 3. Orange Range - Like I said, you gotta love J-music. 4. Ranma/Akane/Shampoo/Nabiki/Kasumi - I'M NOT SURE IF THIS REALLY IS THE NAME OF THEIR GROUP BUT they're from the cast of Ranma 1/2 and they have their own CD of Doco songs. 5. Soul'd Out - This is a rap group of J-people.

OlgaTheDwarf
OMFG! Who's talking about my boys from Georgia? You better put Norma Jean up in your top list. Yes, for me they would probably number three (right behind Zao and mewithoutYOU), however I don't want to have to choose. Anyway, I love my "Chugga" hardcore, so I love my Norma Jean. And when I'm feeling old school, I bust out the Luti-Kriss (horid name, but Norma Jean, before they were called Norma Jean), and give it a listen. Kudos, to the Nroma Jean fans. Syk3
Damn, I really wish that I can answer this question a little more truthfully, but I don't listen to that many bands, and if I was exposed to some other good bands I would probably change my mind on the 4 and 5 spot, especially the 5. With that in mine, here are my 5 favorite bands. 5. Linkin Park 4. Alien Ant Farm 3. 311 2. Sublime 1. Incubus The reason that I say that I want to replace Linkin Park on number 5 is because I was listening to them way back when I first started getting into music, and based on the music I've been listening to lately, I'm not too impressed by Linkin Park anymore. The talent in music is.. mediocre, and often repetitive, and the singing could be better. Of course, they're not in the number 5 spot for nothing; they're better than a lot of the crap I hear on the radio lately. Ah well. I really like Alien Ant Farm in terms on punk rock. They are my favorite punk rock band, most likely because of the singing honestly. Their playing could use some work, but they're right on with singing for the category that they're in. I don't listen to them much anymore, usually in favor of the first three, but they're fun to hear for some change of pace. 311 was the first band I was introduced to by my friend Nate when it comes to "good music". It's his favorite band, and was mine for a while because of the kind of soothing music that they play which sort of relaxes you. They have amazing musical talent that makes you feel like you're just listening to music for the first time when you hear them. What I love about Sublime is they way they could just play anything and it sounds so.. sublime, haha. The "bubbly" sort of singing and playing that they did is simply so relaxing, and it never gets old. I remember my friend telling me about when Brad did this one concert when he was really drunk, and you could tell because he was wobblying around and mumbling when singing, but when he played that guitar.. holy crap. The thing that really gets me is that once you've heard all of their songs, that's it. There won't be any more. My all-time favorite band has to be Incubus. Each and every song of their's has it's own distinct feel to it, and I know I've been talking a lot about talent, but with Incubus, it's at the pinacle. Guitar, bass, drums, vocal, it's all there. One of the most important things that I look for in a band is the message in the songs, and whether I can relate to them, and Incubus does a great job of doing this. I only just got into them about 3 months ago, but I'm hooked and it's just about all I listen to, lol.

PleasureOfPain
(In no particular Order) Breaking Benjamin I guess I like breaking benjamin because of their songs(Duh). Well, just because most of their songs seem to be directed at hating/loving some chick, and they sound really good while hating/loving her. Gotta Love that. 1. So Cold 2. Wish I may 3. Skin 4. Water 5. Polyamorous TooL I can't really say much more then "I love TooL." 1. StinkFist 2. Eulogy 3. Sober 4. Parabola 5. Schism A Perfect Circle I guess I'm mainly about what they're saying in their songs, And thats the way it is with all the music I listen to, but everything A Perfect Circle sings just jumps out at me as really.. Umm.. Meaningfull is too sappy a word for them, but its something along those lines. 1. Brena 2. Judith 3. Three Libras 4. Thinking of you 5. The Noose Korn Korns lyrics don't make sense.. at all, but I'm mostly into korn because with them, it's all about lashing out and hurting something. 1. Lets do this now 2. Y'all Want a single 3. Make me Bad 4. Freak on a Leash 5. Got the Life Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson Has to be one of my favorites because he's Crazy, his Vocals are amazing, he's painfully blunt, and he's not afraid to do different things.. Umm.. Really different things. (The Woman Bodysuit) 1. mObscene 2. Beautiful People 3. The Fight Song 4. This is the new **** 5. SlutGarden

Jeebs
Here's my list. The songs are in no particular order. 5. System of a Down Songs: -Toxicity -Prison Song -Bomb -Psycho -Aerials 4. Korn Songs: -Here to Stay -Thoughtless -Alone I Break -Did my Time -Falling Away from Me 3. Blink 182 Songs: -Adam's Song -Easy Target -I Miss You -Obvious -Down 2. Nirvana Songs: -Smells Like Teen Spirit -Lithium -You Know You're Right -Stay Away -Heart-Shaped Box 1. Linkin Park I have yet to hear a Linkin Park song that I don't like. I first heard them when my brother started listening to them, but at that time I didn't listen to music so I didn't care. A couple years ago I saw a Ceres music video with "A Place for my Head". After that I couldn't stop listening to them. Songs: -Faint -Breaking the Habit -And One -A Place for my Head -Forgotten

Billy Shears
My all-time favorites: 5. Rancid/ Lars and the Bastards: If I'm in a bad mood, the fast, catchy lyrics and guitars pick me up after te 2nd or 3rd song 4. DRI: Gimmie some of the O.G.s of ealy 80's punk. 3. The Who: Roger Daltrey has to be one of or the best frontman ever. Pete Townshend smashed all his stuff up because he "couldn't play lead as well as the others of his time", to quote Joe Perry of Aerosmith. Well, screw Joe Perry, cause he looks like he's dead. 2. Jimi Hendrix: What the fuzz is wrong with you people?! He is THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER THAT EVER LIVED. He frigging PIONEERED the whammy bar. He played his guitar upside-down (but it was stringed right side up ;) )
Hendrix was left handed, he played a left handed guitar.
True, he was left-handed, but when he started out in 1954, no left handed guitars were ever made. He instead turned the guitar upside-down, restringed it the normal way, and just learned the chords backwards. If you know somebody with a Woodstock or Monterry Pop Festival video, you can see the whammy bar on top of the guitar, not on the bottom, so it was close to his left-hand. That enabled him to do things with the whammy bar easier, making songs no other human being on this planet could replicate. 1. The Beatles: Ok... If you don't respect the Beatles, then you are the most naive person in this universe. Just cause you don't like the music, doesn't mean they suck.If it weren't for the Beatles, you WOULD NOT have the music you have today. If you could interview your favorite rock star right now, there is a 99% chance they will say the Beatles have influenced them in any way. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band" is the greatest album ever made, and you can quote me and Rolling Stone magizine on that. Another reason the Beatles are so great is because they pretty much invented the things a modern-day recording studio shoud have And to all of those who think the Beatles suck, 1. At least they wrote their own material *cough* LINKIN PARK's songs are written by the same lady that writes for Celine Dion*cough* and 2. You just haven't listend to any of their records So thats why I hate Linkin Park and love Rancid/ Lars & the Bastards, DRI, The Who, Hendrix, and the kings of 20th century music, The Beatles
Syn
See, im torn, my usual list would probably go a little something like this: 1.Avenged Sevenfold 2.Killswitch Engaged 3.Machine Head 4.Guns n Roses 5.Metallica But when I think about it, I want to take into concideration, how they effected the music industry. so heres my new list, not much different really. (1st being the best) 1. Guns n Roses: What can I say? You think rock, power ballads, something nice, something hard. You think Guns n Roses, they're probably the most influencial band of their time. I mean their frontman, Axl, great voice that stands out, no one could reproduce that. Then Slash, probably more well known than Axl. His solo's, wow, I mean hes not the best guitarist in the world but hes up there. Then theres the country riffs that izzy brought to the band, and the punk riffs from Duff. They had everything. Of course im slightly biased as I really do love them. But to some extent, its true. 2. Sex Pistols: One for the Brits, because we're great. Yeah, they brought punk to light, without them, we wouldnt have a hell of a lot of bands that claim the punk name these days...which in some ways, im sure cant be all that bad x_x;; 3. Metallica: I had to put these in somewhere, back in the day...they were so refreshing, two guitars pumping away, kick all our *****. They're great. Another band that rocked with power, but had such touching lyrics with their ballady type songs, "Nothing Else Matters", "The One", some of the more well known pieces i'd say. 4. Slipknot: Hmm...well yeah, im pushing it for bands to choose from now, but I must say, though I never really got into slipknot, they blew everyone away at the time. A great live band, very heavy, they took the world by storm....The fact that they produced something that was so popular worldwide is seriously something to marvel and respect. 5. Avenged Sevenfold: Yeah, a lot of people wont agree with me on this one but I seriously would say that they are the band to look out for this year. Their latest album, Waking the Fallen, is in my opinion one of the best albums to be released this year. This album is probably the only album in a long time that I could happily sit and listen to for hours on end, I like every track on it. Which is rare. Mixing Metal and Punk with screaches, growls and beautiful lyrical melodies and harmonies. Easily my favourite band. (It killed me to put them last :/)

Rush- There's not a single Rush song that I dont' like, they're my favorite band. The drum, bass, synth and guitar work is simply amazing. -Subdivisions -Test for Echo -2112 -Red Barchetta -Spirit of Radio 2. The Eagles, one of my favorite for soft/folk rock. Inspried a lot of my own songs. -Tequila Sunrise -Hotel California -Life in the Fastlane -The Last Resort -Get Over It 3. Don Henley. Yes he was in The Eagals, but did many solo songs that I just can't ignore. -The Heart of the Matter -The Boys of Summer -Dirty Laundry -Everything is Different Now -New York Minute 4. U2, they have to be one of the best bands to come out of the UK, along with The Beatles, The Divine Comedy, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. -Mysteriouse Ways -Elevation -The Unforgettable Fire -Even Better than the Real Thing -Where the Streets Have No Name 5. I mentioned them in the last one, but here they are, The Divine Comedy. Not as old as the others since they formed in '89, but they still rank up there. -Gin Soaked Boy -National Express -Something for the Weekend -Everybody Knows (Except You) -The Pop Singers Fear of the Pollen Count

Semjaza
I usually avoid these threads, but I didn't give an answer to this one yet and I'm bored... so what the hell. Picking five musicians is rather difficult for me, to be honest. 1.) David Bowie 2.) Marilyn Manson 3.) Apocalypse Hoboken 4.) Pixies 5.) Modest Mouse There's a lot of bands I'd consider favorite beyond these. Other than the first three, I'm not even sure of what I've selected here. It's always rather random. I don't have any specifics other than Bowie, AH, Pixies and Manson usually. To me, David Bowie is the epitome of rock music. This includes not only him, but members of his backing band like the amazing Mick Ronson (responsible for a lot of the string arrangements and guitar pieces). I don't think anything has ever topped Ziggy Stardust in terms of a complete album. Not only is it amazingly well written and played, but the feeling and meaning behind it are unparalled. Bowie arguably released more impressive sounding albums since then, but I don't think any have topped the overall effect of Ziggy Stardust. To me, it's the best album ever recorded. I'd say that Bowie was easily close second to the Beatles in terms of influences for the coming decades. I remember a rather recent survey of current popular bands and the most popular choice for an influence was David Bowie. That has to mean somethnig. Marilyn Manson is a band I receive a lot of crap for. Back in 1996, they gained a lot of fans due to their image. Now that same image has been biting them in the ***, even though it's been altered a few times since then. I personally feel the band plays some great music and Manson is an excellent lyricist, but very few are willing to look beyond the image. I've been a huge fan of the band for almost a decade now. I own all their LPs, most of their import singles, bootlegs, etc. I probably listen to them more than any other band in existance. My favorite of their releases is probably Portrait of an American Family, but Mechanical Animals is unarguably the most impressive even if I am not always in the mood for it. I consider it the second best album ever, personally heh. Apocalypse Hoboken is a local punk band that's now disbanded. I love all of their word and really relate to the messages the band puts across. They're without a doubt my favorite punk group. Seeing them live was a dream come true heh. Best day of my life, I think. The Pixies sometimes are my favorite of all of these, but they're usually at least in the top 5. I absolutely love their music, I love the attitude and I love the nonsensical side of it all. I cannot wait to see them in November.
Bushidopunk
1. Swingin' Utters - 1st punk band I really got into 2. Rancid - from Operation Ivy to this, these guys had to be on my list 3. Ramones - They are the RAMONES! 4. The Clash - London calling, Rock the Casbah, the list goes on and on 5. haruno_sakura
The first three I mention are actually quite solid, but the last two choices are ones that probably change often. 1 - L'Arc~en~Ciel: As one can probably notice from my signature/avatar pair, L'Arc~en~Ciel is my ultimate favorite group ever. Individually, Yukihiro, Tetsu, Ken and Hyde are talented in their own right, but when put together, they just become an unstoppable band. Those lucky enough to see them at Otakon04 (GRR, I still wish I could've gone, sobs) finally got to see how talented this band is. The composition of each song is perfect, and the lyrics are so good. They have a poetic type of quality that I honestly haven't found in a bunch of other bands. 2 - Asian Kung-Fu Generation: This band rocks. All their songs have catchy beats and melodies, and I really, really love Kensuke Kita's voice. He's got that huskiness that I really dig. LOL. I honestly haven't heard a song by them that I haven't liked. 3 - No Doubt: I just really like their songs. Never felt the need to look up any information on any of them, but their music really kicks so much ***. Gwen Stefani was probably the first female to ever really write songs that I could totally feel, esp "I'm Just A Girl." Ever since then, I've just been an avid listener of their music. 4 -Duel Jewel: I didn't really get into them until very recently, but they're really quite talented. I love their VK style, and their music is pretty damn cool. I had my doubts about them since I only heard a few of their songs before I got to see them live, but in concert, everything was just so much better. They totally know how to keep a show going, and they also played newer songs that I hadn't heard before, and those were much more polished than their earlier stuff. They've got a lot of potential to make it really big. 5 - Dir en Grey: Actually this last one was a toss-up between Dir en Grey and Glay, and I decided to put Dir en Grey in just because recently I've been listening to them more than I have to Glay. Dir en Grey has a really unique style, musically and appearance-wise. I'm not quite sure I have the words to describe them since...they're very indescribable, haha. Their music is simply awesome. They're really loud hard rock, and they're worth giving a listen to. ...Okay I need to start listening to genres other than JRock. I fear it has taken over my soul.
