Aerain
I have been using Fan sub to watch some anime currently unavaible in Canada; however I feel that some animes are childish at times. Do you know any good anime you could suggest to an amateur like me? I tend to like anime with a lot of fighting and drama so if you can name some that fit this genre then I will be pleased to hear all of your suggestions. Thanks in advance
NashvilleDream
My guess would be Withch Hunter Robin or Ghost in the Shell, but there are others that AERN'T from the evil channel >.< (aka Cartoon Network) Fushigi Yugi is good...
ukoku
Rurouni Kenshin is on CN but it ain't childish... Please put more detail into your posts, ukoku. This really isn't up to the standard of some of your usual posts. Try and at least explain why it'd be a good anime to recommend. -Solo

Dagger
Sea of Chaos, please watch your post quality. Solo's comments in the reply above yours also apply to you.
I have been using Fan sub to watch some anime currently unavaible in Canada; however I feel that some animes are childish at times. Thanks in advance
It would help if you mentioned a few anime which you consider to be "childish," because my definition of that word may not necessarily line up with yours. But I'll try to recommend a few titles, all the same. >_>;; Monster is very dark and mature. Its (mostly) superb writing and well-paced storyline are supported by detailed, realistic character designs and consistently impressive animation. The main character, Dr. Tenma, is a young, brilliant Japanese surgeon who works in a German hospital--until a mysterious series of events (trying not to be overly spoiler-rific, sorry) lead him to become a fugitive from the law. Monster features a vast array of side characters and sub-plots, but manages to be dramatic and suspenseful rather than confusing. Yugo is a much shorter anime, with only 13 episodes (Monster is currently ongoing, but will probably be between 70 and 80 episodes in total). It's undeservedly obscure, considering that it has decent artwork and one of the most intelligent and discreetly badass main characters you'll ever come across. The eponymous protagonist is a negotiator; the series covers two of his cases, the first taking place in Pakistan, the second in Russia. Be warned that there are quite a few scenes dealing with torture and other forms of severe physical abuse. Both of these shows are unlicensed. As for licensed anime, you can't really go wrong with Requiem from the Darkness, Kino's Journey (which is not at all childish, despite appearances), or Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal (the first set of Rurouni Kenshin OVAs). As a group, the titles I've mentioned tend to err on the side of dark & somewhat/very violent. Again, it would help if you specified what you're looking for. :) ~Dagger~
QuincyArcher
If you're fairly new to the whole anime scene, there are a couple older series that are a must see if you're into the action/drama genres. They are (and im surprised no one mentioned these yet): Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Akira or pretty much anything by Hayao Miyazaki / Studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Laputa - Castle in the Sky, etc) you'll probably have a hard time finding them available on fansub, but shouldn't be too hard to find at a local rental store or video store, although im not too sure about canada. For some more recent series' i would suggest Last Exile, Noir and Samurai Champloo. all of those are great series' with lots of good action with excellent storylines and characters too boot. Elfen Lied is another great that i have watched recently, but i can only recommend it if you're comfortable with excessive gore and nudity. Aerain
Ok, I must clear up something before questions start to pill up. I really tend to dislike anime with "shallow characters born with supernatural powers" like in DBZ so please don't mention them. Don't get me wrong, almost 99% of animes involves people with supernatural powers, but then again if it does have a good plot or an interesting storyline then it changes everything. For example, I love BLEACH, I think it is one of the best anime out there though sometime it gets silly. I also hate when an anime tries to use a lot of blends and becomes inconsistent, unenjoyable and oversaturated. (Sorry, I am french so don't mind about my grammar.) Raven's wing
Well if you're past the DBZ stage, I'd recommend Cowboy Bebop...maybe Trigun. What you watch is really up to you...but...I warn you, Some series (Ghost in the Shell for example) are a little heavy. Give Witch Hunter Robin a shot, if you're looking for good characters, action, and drama though. The storyline is great.
Kuraineko
Many of the good, more mature anime doesn't come on until night and/or very early in the morning. Anime Unleashed comes on around 12 AM central, I not for sure if that's avalible in Canada, but those animes are not quite "for kids". But the only childish ones I saw were Pokemon and Digimon, shows like that.
boxybrown305
Cowboy Bebop is good. Generally serious, though light when it needs to be. Neon Genesis Evangelion. All religious and stuff. Deals with depression and what not, a very serious anime. X is also quite good. It's also religious, but in a more dark kind of way. See the series though... the movie wont make sense otherwise. Hellsing is also good. A short series, that has a bit more gore and violence, although i highly recomend the manga over the anime. Ninja Scroll is also kind of gory. I would recomend the movie, though the series isn't bad either... Akira is a great movie as well... Hope that helps! :D
Qukey
As an adult, I can recommand some shows I enjoy: Twelve Kingdows: It is the anime based on a part of a larger set of novels by Fuyumi Ono. It starts as a high school girl named Yoko teleported to another world and trying to to find her way home. She soon realizes suviving is not easy but she has to try. The 45 episodes covers 7 volumes of the novels. It includes 6 of the 12 kingdoms. There are more novels published which are not made into anime at this moment. This story does not involve romance like may other story with the same kind of setting. Instead, it is a political drama in some sense. It follows the adventure of Yoko when her travels through the world to understand this strange place and its culture. Not all characters in 12 Kingdoms are good looking but they have depth. Black Jack: A masterpiece by the great Osamu Tezuka. The ova, tv series and 2 movies cover some of the stories from the 30 volumn manga. The anime style is very different from the more recent designs but the stories are as interesting as the newer works, if not more interesting. Black Jack is an expensive surgeons who does not have a license. He can cure almost any illness or injury but the price is high. The stories involve his thinking and the people he cures. Tokyo Godfather: The movie is about a baby and 3 homeless people on Christmas night. It explores their loneliness and their feeling about their lifes. The story concentrates on the relationship between people who need help. There are a lot of miracles in the story to bring hope to the hopeless. Rahxephon: There are so many people saying how much Rahxephon is "similar" to EVA, but Rahxephon tells a very different story. Rahxephon is a romantic drama with mecha. Like many good mecha stories, such as Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam and Aura Battler Dunbine, Rahxephon has great character development and an understandable story. The story is about 17 years old Ayato Kamina who has hidden power within him. With the help of others, he has to realize the truth about the outside world and find the person he loves.
