Sara
I don't know how many people are aware of this, but cingular is actually a real word. It means "ring-like" or "ring-shaped." Interesting, no? frickin' idiot, Sara
AzureWolf
Interesting, no?
Actually, it kind of kills what coolness the term had. I mean, it sounded all "synergetic" and hip, but now I'm always going to think about what it means and just say to myself, "Gah, that's so lame. It's the equivalent of a cell phone company naming themselves 'Cell Phones Co.'" So thanks, Sara, thanks for destroying a dream.

Doc
I, living in teh same county as Arunue, share Cox. I find many a company name now aday to be strange. There is an exceedingly inappropriate joke that goes with this companies name. "What happens when you don't pay your cable bill...
they cut off your cox.
I also find older companies such as AT&T to be strange names. I have yet to find out it's meaning. PS. My cell phone company is Verizon... and it seems to me they don't actually want to use real words. They seem to be scared to use Horizon. ^_^
ArunueShekamari
Lol. I thought that someone lived around me. Same county eh? ArunueShekamari
AT&T, Verizon, then there are those that have nothing to do with phone lines like Sprint.

It must be a West thing because Nevada has Cox cable too. That is just disgusting! But as long as it's not spelled with a ck at the end I guess it's ok. I don't know if I have one really. The major phone company in Rochester is called Frontier. It makes me think of one of the old hotels in Downtown LAs Vegas. Or just, I don't know, the frontier? Somewhere in NewYork there is an electric company called Niagra Mohawk. I understand that it's from two native american tribes, but it's an interesting name I guess. That's all I can come up with

I always think it's slang for Event Horizon, which probably makes the name seem better than it actually is. Sure, they may have nothing to do with black holes, but their wireless communication devices do have a tendency to make you feel like you are being sucked into one ("can you hear me now? Hello?! May-Day! What?" *blip*).
Skye
I'm kind of amazed no ones mentioned Alltel. I mean, what IS that supposed to mean? aLLteL. Such a funky word... I mean, if it meant tell all, wouldn't it have a fourth l at the end? And then you have to wonder about Bellsouth...
