Shinmaru
Plus, to add to the "cowboys >>>>> pirates" argument, you have the Dark Tower novels. Roland Deschain, Eddie and Susannah Dean, and Jake Chambers would wipe the floor with any pirate you could think of, and the novels that they're in are about a million times better than any pirate-based novel I could think of. I still like the Han Solo-type the best, but I like cowboys more than pirates.
Ryoko T.D.C.
"Save a horse, ride a cowboy" Ever since that saying, I've taken a favorite for cowboys. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to ride a horse, brand cows, hog tie cows, wear boots, tight pants that make your butt look small, and wearing a cool cowboy hat! But then I saw POTC, and fell in love with Mr. Johnny Depp, and thought, "why be a cowgirl, when I could be a pirate and get a s**t load of booty!(treasure of course!)" So, I am more in love with pirates now. But when I was little, I was more in to the *coughpokemoncough* sort of thing. You know, jumping aroung the house throwing balls aroung the house yelling: "I CHOOSE YOU SANDSHREW!!! But thank god I grew out of that. (sort of....)
Semjaza
I didn't want to be either of these growing up and I never really pretended to be them either. I'd probably side with dMage, I was more into fantastical things like TMNT and such. Obviously there's no chance I'm going to change into a humanoid animal thanks to some ooze, but I guess there's always the dream.
Queen Asuka
Well, I was MOSTLY a Power Ranger, and Kimberly to be exact. From about third to fifth grade, when I lived in a trailer park (YIKES!), me and all the neighborhood kids would run home from school, watch Power Rangers, and then meet up afterwards and play Power Rangers. My sisters were the red and yellow ranger and these two boys we played with were the white and black ranger and then this other girl was the blue ranger. So yes. Of course, the green/white ranger was played by my little boyfriend at the time (lol, why? such a silly child...). And we always played on the trampoline so we could do flips and stuff. Then these new kids moved in and one was my age and all of sudden SHE wanted to be the pink ranger. It was NOT cool. She said that if we went in her yard, she was the pink ranger. Needless to say, we avoided her yard. BUT, on the weekends, it was a different story. When Aprill and Brittney came over, I took on a whole new persona. Me and Brittney were known as the Chun-Li Twins and the Zelda Twins. For the Chun-Li twins, we had a cheer that we would do (and both of us still know by heart) that corresponded with her moves on the game. As for the Zelda twins...well, I was the Zelda in the sanctuary and she was the one in the dungeon. (Think SNES, people.) We always had to be twins because if not, we'd fight over who'd get to be who. And that just wasn't happening. THEN, a major turning point of my life: middle school. I was Princess Leia something hardcore. And my boyfriend that I thought I was MADLY in love with and destined to marry was Han Solo. And my best friend, his sister, was Luke Skywalker. And we used to always go over to my Aunt and Uncle's and stay with them over the weekends and such and just watch all three Star Wars movies together. Then we'd go outside and play frisbee Star Wars style where my Uncle Ace played Obi-Wan and my Aunt Kim was Chewbacca. I was so obsessed with my Princess Leia persona that I could wear my hair in every single hairstyle she has, no kidding. I was an EXPERT at the Leia 'dos. But then I cut my hair (which was past my butt) and Aunt Kim and Uncle Ace moved away and Lauren and Jeffery moved on to other things and we entered high school and I had to leave it all behind. But I SWEAR those were the best times of my life. I always think about them and I wish sometimes it was still like that where the only thing I cared about was being some pretend character... Yes. So I haven't really grown out of it completely. After all, I still get Barbies and My Little Ponys all the time.

I remember that, for a long time, I wanted to be a Female Mutant Ninja Turtle. We had these characters and we always fought over the Pink one. ^_^" Nevermind they didn't exist in the realm of TMNT. [Whoa, it was like, my first form of fanfiction!] I do remember my friend and I used to play a fairies game, however. It was always in our Jacaranda tree, and we used to believe there were fairies and goblins. And you could tell they were there because of the 'footprints' on the tree. [If you ever go and look at the bark on a Jacaranda, you'll see what I mean.] But yeah, there were a couple of reason for not being into either pirates or cowboys. I think the lack of attraction to pirates for me is that the two female pirates I know of were kind of..well...floozies. They were the worst pirates on deck, and the most vicious and everything [They were on the same ship.]. But when their ship got caught, they got out of the hangman's noose because they managed to get pregnant, and you can't kill a pregnant woman. Now, that's manipulation of gender, lol. As for being a cowgirl...I don't like dust. I did, however, go through a horse phase. Zidargh
I don't know really, I never really stuck with any idol-stereotype for more than one day, because I'd change my mind constantly. Sometimes I'd return to the idol, then I'd change, so on and so forth. My list includes: - Cowboy Indiana Jones Dinosaur (Inspired by Jurassic Park at the time) James Bond That stupid monkey in Aladdin. (Don't ask me why, I refused to play Aladdin despite the demand from friends.) Pirate TMNT (Huge fan of them.) Power Ranger (The Blue One to be exact. Billy I think. Heh, I remember PR getting banned whilst I was in infant school because of the number of kids jump-kicking their relatives.) Robot Thomas from Thomas the Tank Engine Mr. Spoon from Button Moon Thumper from Bambi It goes on!
Leofski
Has anyone read the papers today? I quote from The Times: "The U.N yesterday passed a resolution that only those proven to be proper pirates would be allowed to run for government in any member country. This means that, despite spending several weekends on Bluebeard's private ship, Tony Blair will be unable to run this summer. When asked about this unexpected policy announcement Kofi Annan 's spokesperson said: "The Secretary-General has often stated that pirates are the best. In the wake of the American election, the UN thought that it would be better if all candidates had shady pasts and dubious political beliefs." In addition, no one seems to have brought up these quotes from Genesis: "And on the 8th day, God created pirates. the pinnacle of creation. He looked and them and say that they were the best, then went off to have a cup of tea." "And the pirates did rise up and smite the cowboys, and God spoke unto the captain of the pirates "Cowboys are rubbish, just like superheros. I shall send i mighty flood to drown them, but thou shalt be saved, since J00 r0x0r and have ships", and the captain was confused, as he had no idea what a superhero was, but was grateful to the Lord for his salvation". I think this is conclusive evidence that pirates are better.
ChibiHorsewoman
*sees poll* Where have all the cowboys gone? Honestly I never wanted to be either. Pirates don't bathe and cowboys always get shot at. Neither one sounds like much fun...sorry Drix. I did want to be one of the color kids from Rainbow Bright. Shy Violet to be exact. Give me a bag of color crystals and a sprite any day. You want color? I got your color! Then I'd make everyone really colorful. Yeah color kids beat out pirates and cowboys any day. I even had a Rainbow bright cake for my brithday one year. Also Synergy from Jem and the Holograms was cool, or maybe Jem herself...Alothough I think being Jem could cause some kind of psychological problems. But Synergy was pretty cool. She could create illusions of anything. Lets see a pirate or a cowboy do that. I did that when my friends and I played Jem. We made Kim be Kimber though for obvious reasons. I was either Jem or Synergy Then of course the standard: Miner-in the winter my friends and I would pretend that we were mining for diamonds by picking up icicles and pther frozen things...I think we found a sock and a rawhide chew once) and putting them in our sled. Lion tamer-Kim and I would take turns holding up a hula hoop while the other one would say: jump through the hoop my lion. ok Oh and for the record, pirates and ninjas don't get along.

Ryan
I was definetly a Power Ranger. I would never be a pirate, due to my phobia of oceans and seas. o.O;
Ezekiel
I spent most of my childhood days wanting to be a super hero, but there were times when I wanted to be a pirate...and a cowboy. (Not at the same time) I actually broke my tooth pretending to be a pirate. My dad had built me this massive climbing frame and I decided (quite stupidly) to put a stick in my mouth and jump off it. The stick was too long, hit the ground before I did and because of the leverage, literally snapped my tooth out. After that I have no memory of wanting to be a pirate, except after seeing pirates of the Caribbean last year.... but that was only under the condition that Jack Sparrow was my captain...*coughs* I went to a cowboy party, I owned a real cowboy hat and I want a new one. I love cowboys and I love country and western movies, I even used to have those little plastic sets of cowboys and Indians. But they were all green u_u damn cheap manufacturers. *shakes fist* I moved out of that phase and latched onto Power Rangers, and much like Queen Asuka, I wanted to be 'the Pink One'. Ah, memories.

I was over at a school friend's house and we had gone up to the attic to see what was up there-also because my house was much newer than hers and the closest I have to an attic is a crawl space. Anyways, her little brother followed us up there and wanted us to play pirates with him so we obliged-hey we were bored and in 3rd grade. There were some old rolled up carpets over in one part of the attic, so after taking over his 'ship' (it was a box we had found we made her little brother walk the plank, which were the old carpets. and he fell to the floor. Come to think of it that was fun. For me the power rangers didn't come out until middle school. But I was doing a baby sitting thing with some kids and I ended up having to be the yellow ranger. Which I honestly didn't mind since the pink ranger was too girly even by my standards.
Dragon Warrior
Hell, I still wanna be a pirate. I tend to embezzle and swashbuckle the streets of small town Carson City, Michigan. If you hear my name, you'd tremble with fear. Women loved me. It's all in my piratey pirate log. Arrrr! I've been notorious for commadeering a ship or two, but shhh... you don't know that ;^D Pirates are the shiz. Plain and simple.
r3vival
I never really had a cowboy/pirate phase either although pirates are definately the better of the two. I personally wanted to be a teenage mutant ninja turtle when I was little :D . That's what my preschool recesses consisted of michael angelo/ rafael all the way 2 best although I was usually michael angelo. dMage
I remebered something completely fascinating today, and, seeing as it has yet to be shared here, I wanted to mention the following "other": GHOSTBUSTERS! I was watching #2 today, and remebered how it was one of the things I used to pretend to be when I was a little kid. I remember begging my parents for a proto-gun and then cool clean thing that they had (sry, don't remeber its name) sadly, I never got them, but my next door neighbor did, and we always had a blast running around catching ghosts and other paranormal whatnot. who you gonna call?
