Twilight_Kioku
ok, im a high school student, have about 30 manga novels, 6 dvd's, 72 gig of anime on my comp, and a hellovalotta wallpapers. recently, one of my teachers in my computer classes noticed my wallpapers i have up, and some other classmates as well. recently, mine has been DNAngel wallpapers, and negima. she gets kinda mad and tells us to get rid of our wallpapers, calling them cartoon porn. i was just sittin there thinking 'yeah, porn my a__, if she wants that, i can bring some'. not goin to, of course, but just the idea of excluding it from my computer classes when all i do in there is draw anime on the computers...well, i dont have anything to do in there anymore! and neither does a couple of my friends. we are now forced to BS our way through the day. i also bring my manga to school to read, because my parents dont really like it, when its nothing worse than whats on the local channels at prime time. i bring them to school, and some more teachers chew me out for reading that, and i contenue to think, 'wtf? itsa book, im an adult, GET OVER IT!' long story short, my teachers are anti-anime, anti-manga, and im stuck with nothing to do for a few hours. anyone else have this problem around school or anywhere similar? good new is, she hasent said anything about my .hack// music, yay
QuincyArcher
Thats really not surprising for a High School. especially with a public school computer i can see what a teacher may not want something that may be viewed as lude, obscene or offensive (and im not saying that your wallpaper was) on the monitor where other students and/or teachers can see it. In public schools they have to abide by strict rules for political correctness and put a stop on anything that may be offensive to anyone else. If you really want to read manga and/or watch anime at school just don't do it during class (obviously) Im sure you get breaks and a lunch break at some point during your school day that you can just hang out with your friends and read or discuss manga. or you may just need to wait a couple more years till college, at my college i see people reading manga and watching anime on their laptops all the time (even during class sometimes :animeswea) and no one gives a crap about it. As for your parents, im sure they're just looking out for you and see anime as some sort of deadly sin from Japan. Maybe if you were more open with them about it they would come to accept it? My mom is a native Japanese so i grew up on anime that her parents (my grandparents) would periodically send me from japan. so I never really had that problem with my parents. Black Moon
As long as I'm not reading one of my MANY mangas during working hours at school, my teachers don't mind. (Of course, they also haven't realised the 16+ rating on the back.) I own 66 manga, about 19 DVDs, a hard drive with over 98.5% of its space full of anime pictures, plushies, action figures, and posters. As long as my anime/manga is not disturbing my classmates or studies, my teachers have no justification to take away my manga. But for you, like QuincyArcher said, since your wallpapers are in full visual of your fellow students and teachers that may find something offensive (even if to you maybe it's not), the teachers have to stick to the rules and guidlines. EVA Unit 100
I must be lucky. My school provides the SGT Frog, Gundam Wing, and CLAMP School Dectectives manga in the media center (I've thought about lending them some of my older Ranma 1/2 or Naruto volumes), and most teachers get embarassed when they admit they haven't seen Spirited Away (things get even worse when they mix it up with that ****ing horse movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron). The school guidance counselor even knows every episode of Cowboy Bebop by heart. Plus there's an afterschool "Art in Japan" class, and despite the ptiched premise for the class we spend less time doing traditional Japanese art and more time drawing manga/watching Miyazaki movies. Cazzilla
You are very lucky EVA Unit 100. If anime ever comes up at my school i spend half an hour trying to convince everyone No, It ISN'T all cartoon porn..
Naota 愚人クーリ
I bring my USB to class and it has a wallpaper of FLCL on it, (of Haruko licking a bowl) and none of my classmates or teachers say any thing about it. I don?t bring manga everyday but some days, and no one says any thing. My friend even in my school brings Fruit Backet,.Hack Sign,Bleach, and many more manga. So I don?t know because no one really hassles me about it. No ones called it porn or any thing. It's in a public High school too. I guess no one really cares at my school. :animesmil
r3vival
Wow... i wish we had that in our school EVA sitting and drawing manga afterschool.. I only experienced 1 teacher that ever said anything about my background and maybe a few students but thats no longer a problem because they had to make it so you cant put a background on the computers (....) I can't say I got it bad at all though a lot of people in my school like their share of anime and if they dont like it they still respect it (so long as its not on the level of pokemon and the likes). I don't understand i mean i don't know how obscene your background may have appeared but It is used in an artistic sense so it is incomparable to porn. It isn't made to be masturbated to.... therefore that was a pretty ignorant thing for ur teacher to say

It's more like and order form for a detention or work detail. I can't stand there rules. At least they let use read whatever we want in our spare time. Latharix_sama
I'm only in middle school, I am currently in possession of 31 volumes of manga (and still counting). I bring them to school to read because I lend and borrow them to and from friends and because I really don't like the crap we have to read in class...AR book reading time my eye! When I first started bringing them all the preps were like "WTF? This crap reads backwards! How the crap do you read this?" and always taking them away from me to try to read them. I am now an 8th grader and the same people are still asking the same retarded questions. My teachers really don't give a crap about it though. ...Ms.Walker was kind enough to ask what an otaku was and be understanding about it...she's a cool teacha! But really, those preps really bug me with their stupidity and closed-mindness. I too, have problems with peoples calling it cartoon porn and perverts sneaking peeks at it to see if it really is porn. Okay...so maybe one of them was sorta-kinda porn but only one! And they never asked about that one! Eva....you guys have it way, way to lucky....let me come to your school!!!! This is the current Mathribus of Pluto, future ruler of this Earth, and devote otaku, signing off! :animesmil
r2vq
To me, you all have weird schools. Are you all in the United States? I don't know how most schools are... I go to a school that has no schedules. You can spend your day in which ever area you want. There are always people in the English area or Communications Technology Area reading Manga. The entire year, you'll find Grade Ten students working on tracing Anime Characters with Adobe Illustrator. Every Thursday after school meets the Anime Society to watch Anime and teach others how to create their own. No matter what computer I'm on, my wallpaper is Hikaru no Go. Actually... I think this is the clincher... Although it's a uniformed school, I wear my Naruto Forehead Protector practically everyday. Maybe I go to a weird school? -ArV
boxybrown305
I'm a junior in high school and in my school, we aren't allowed to change wallpapers at all. Although i am in a graphics class, and many projects that i get (creating a business, web site, videos, etc.) are strongly based on anime (by my choice, except the one project we had to make a video of a cartoon... why wouldn't i choose anime?), and not only is it allowed, but my teacher priases for good work done! :D I have even made a video of Evangelion that has a slightly revealing image of Rei on it (it technically doesn't show anything) and it's ok. Guess me and my friends are just lucky. :animeswea As for r2vq there it sounds to me like you go to a wierd school... NO SCHEDULE? That's crazy... fynessajynx
I'm no longer in school (heck when I was in school we didn't have backgrounds on the computers we used because they were still dos, not windows, lol) but anyway, my sister was shocked when I told her that I liked anime, she was freaking out about it almost. apparently when she was in art school, a friend she met there invited her to an anime party...but maybe it was a hentai anime party, so my sister for a couple of years thought it was porn cartoons I liked not the normal anime. I had wondered all that time why she looked at me funny when I said I liked anime, I think she was relieved when I told her it wasn't all like that icky tentacled hentai stuff. also I liked to have anime wallpapers up where I worked at an insurance company. it's amazing how many people think it's something weird and not just an entertainment source, like tv or books. I finally ended up not having anime backgrounds anymore because I got tired of peoples questions >.> though I did have a print out of an inu yasha picture and a small poster of weiss kreuz on my walls... and your teachers should encourage you to read manga, after all, you have to read to understand it!!! Reading is important!!!

Weaver_Karuko
It's gotten worse B. HI, I'm a friend of Twilights, and he's not playing. Our teachers have gone Nazi on anime. Before you know it, it will be against the school rules to draw anime, which is what most of us draw... only a rare few of us can draw anything other than the obvious stick figures killing each other... which we don't get in trouble for. Noside
I've had luck at home and bad luck at school. At Home: Parents love anime, years ago they had no problem with me seeing sex or violence as long as I had an understanding of the concepts. They of course explained this after we watched Ninja Scroll as a family when it first came out. I was I think 8 or 10 at the time. In the present, my dad's a big Yu Yu Hakusho fan and my mom loves the hell out of DB/Z/GT. School, the main subject of this thread. I had good luck and bad luck here. The good: The faculty thinks nothing of it. They think it's just another crazy thing we kids do, like video games and music. The bad: Most of us who were fans in school we're closet fans because the first students to bring anime to school, just so happened to bring hentai....Mostly Furry. So everyone who was an anime fan was lumped in the same category as these basterd. I am optimistic that with the popularity Anime is getting, with time the misconceptions of anime will be fixed. I may be really really optimistic about this.
Transmutation
It's true that some teachers dismiss anime as another way for pot smoking teenagers to see porn and hear swears (I don't smoke pot, I never will, I am just putting context), but know whats worse than those conservative teachers (actually I don't have any teachers like that): :flaming: The Students :flaming: One walks up to your litle group (and the reason you're so far awy from anyone is because you want to be), then he takes a look and yells out in a more louder than necessary voice: "HEY, WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ANIME PORN?" We sust stare. -later- The stupid kids possey is there with their criticism, snatching the books from our hand and looking for some "images" (they're probably aroused). :angry2: IF ANY OF YOU PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT ANIME ARE ON THIS WEBSITE, GO BUY AN COPY AND GET WHATEVER IS ON YOUR HANDS OFF WHEN YOU ARE DONE. :angry2: Long live adult-themed Japanese Animation.
Japan
Just because your school doesn't like it, it's not the end of the world. If your parents don't like it, ignore them and continue to do what you like to do. If you don't have any manga or anime and you wish to go out and buy some, get a job when you are old enough and go buy it with your money. Your parents can't tell you what you can't and can buy with your money. I own all of the Shonen Jump magazines thus far and so many other manga that I lost count. I also have anime on either cd-r, recorded on VHS, or on a DVD. Maybe the reason why they don't like certain things because you are drawing, reading, or viewing the anime/manga when they are trying to teach you or when you are suppose to be working on something. My school has a new administration and my parents dislike anime. When they say....don't go out and buy that, I buy it anyways. The adminstration at our school is really strict and annoying... Also....if you do research in the library, and you are researching anime, make sure you have two windows open of the browser. One of something that looks like you are doing what you are suppose to be doing, and the other window of whatever you like. Another thing, if your family is upset about you being alone in your room all the time, come on up and join them every once in a while. They just want to spend time with you. It's pretty simple really.
eleanor
Your parents can't tell you what you can't and can buy with your money. Oh ho ho ho ho. What a wonderful world you live in. It sucks that you go to a school like that. The whole 'anime porn' thing was pretty unnecessary... But I'm doubtful that the school would make a rule against anime. :) I'd follow Japan's advice about the family situation. Don't hole yourself up with only anime/manga. Talk to your parents about school and you life (you can even make it up, really), and they'll be pretty happy. If it doesn't work, you have my sympathy. (You could always try and sit down and talk to them seriously about the subject). My best friend's mom is anti-anime, and she wouldn't let her go with me to an anime convention once. I'm sort of a closet anime fan as well, but only because I don't really talk about it in school a lot. But my school is pretty cool. A lot of people I talk to openly talk about it, read manga, and etc. and the faculty doesn't think twice about it. Heck, they make announcements about anime club on the intercom. [Yet they never talk about orchestra. >_>]
