Guest Alchemist
0% Tolerence Policies are a waste, and dumb. Last year at my school this girl got ther and her mother's lunches mixed up. Her mothers lunch had a steak knife in it. So when she found the knife she immediately alerted a teacher. Later on in science class she comes back crying, I asked her what was wrong she said that she was expelled for the knife, WTF. this girl that was real nice had never even gotten a detention before was now in the category of juvenilles deliquent and could not finish the school year and would have to repeat the 8th grade. She went to go tell a teacher, that obviously means she was not trying to plan a stabbing.they said it was 0%tolerence and it would no be excepted.
Gravy Train
I guess the Zero Tolerance includes Reason. If she really did bring it, then why would she immediately tell a teacher? Couldn't she take the school to court for something like that?
Guest Alchemist
Not in Chestrerfield COunty Virginia. It was a "major" issue with them. Semjaza
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=816&e=3&u=/ap/20050304/ap_on_re_us/brf_school_tantrum I thought this story was interesting. Sure the kid was a brat, but criminal charges seem somewhat excessive to me. Who knows.
gaarasgirl90
0 tolerance does suck. I've expierienced it first hand. Some punk kid puched me in the face! What guy punches a girl in the face!? All I did to him was grab his arm to yell at him for pissing me off and throwing staples and other sharp objects!! So my guy friend goes up to him and choke holds him on the office window. Nice job smart one...Well the office calls the two boys in and I cant let my friend take the blame for it all so I went too. They even called a cop to tell us if we got in trouble again we'd go to a sort of juvi for a week!! What crap! I didn't do a thing except I apparently left "serious marks" on the kids arm. Puleez, he made it up so he wouldn't get in as much trouble because I didn't grab him hard at all! He was even crying! If I'm gonna get punched by someone:blackeye: , and suspended for it, I don't want to be punched by a wuss! We were all suspended for a day instead of 5 days because of finals. Hah! I got back at them though because I went to the beach that day!! :rotflmao:
Box Hoy
That pisses me off Sephiroth. That is so unfair to the girl. They are depriving the girl of education over a mistake where she was being the innocent one and trying to stay out of trouble. So I'd just like to know what the the parents of this girl did? Becuase if I were the parent I'd bring this to the public attention.
Panda
Hopefully she can petition the school board about it. After all if innocent accidents like this happen again all the school board has done is re-enforce to the kids that telling the truth will get you in trouble. It's going to make kids hide stuff instead of being open and honest. Zero tolerence is basically shooting the school in the foot. They really do need to look at the big picture. This girl was never in trouble and she was honest. Honesty in her case appparently wasn't the best policy. This is the lesson they have now taught to the other students. Guest Alchemist
Unfotunately this took place last year and her mother tried to put her in a private school but none would acccept her because of the "seriouness of the offense". And her mother was the ony parent and could not home school her, so she had to repeat. The students at our school tried to protest by not buying anything from the school lunch menu for 3weeks but no effect andthey threatened detention for the people that orcestrated the protest. Some times beurocracy goes to far.
Final Remix
Some times beurocracy goes to far.
Agreed... In my freshman year of high school, they instated a Zero-tolerance policy with eveyrhting on a tuesday. They posted it in the school paper, and everyone joked about it in homeroom, since everybody knew exactly which kids were prone to fighting, and knew that just about everyone else would be labeled as 'dangerous' sooner or later. That same day, a complete *** sitting behind me in math was popping the little suction-cup feet of the pencil sharpener while i was trying to take a test i'd missed. :animeangr I got fed up, and demanded that he stopped. He said "what're you gonna do? Kill me?" and with blatant sarcasm, i said "yeah, right...I'll kill you." The next week (the administrators there are idiots, and take forever to do stuff.), I was on Call-Down. (considered one of the worst thing to happen to someone in our school besides being escorted out by police.) I wasn't just on call-down once. I was on calldown the entire week, having stupid little police-moderated meetings with each and every administrator/"advisor" to find out why I would threaten the life of another student with pre-meditated and malicious intent. It was ridiculous, and even though it was 'stricken from my record' for being a stupid remark and not a threat, it still almost screwed me out of participating in several clubs, and even jeopardized my graduation. boxybrown305
Oh, boy. When i was in fifth grade (about six years ago...) we were working on something, i'm not sure what, that required scissors. So i, along with the rest of the class, got my scissors out. The only difference is that i had a weird kind, they fold to be more compact, it was a gift from my mom. Well i pulled them out to use when someone yelled that i had a weapon (reffering to my "different scissors") probably half joking. But the teacher idiotically took it serious, and before i knew it i was in the principal's office with my dad, trying to explain that it wasn't a weapon, but ordinary scissors. Well i got "in trouble" which i never understood, and still don't, and i never saw those scissors again... :animecry: That really pissed me off! :flaming: Which is why i sympathise so much with that girl you (original poster) talked about. It's so bogus!!!!
Purple Haze
Here in Richmond Va we kinda have a no tolerance rule but then again we don't. A girl had a line of boys in the girls bathroom having waiting to have sex while she was already oing t with someone else and doesn't get expelled or even suspended. But another kid actually fights a school security gaurd and get expelled and has to go to court. Now there have been some weapons found at the school but just some small 2-3 day suspensions were given. So epople really get off the hook in Richmond for something compared to other places. wiccansamurai
Zero tolerance really sucks. My little brother gets bullied a lot. Last week, during gym, he gets jumped by 5 other kids and gets suspended for it. That's crap! I mean, he fought back, but was he supposed to let a group of bullies beat on him? Another thing, one of my brothers went camping. He didn't have a chance to unload his car, so he still had tools in the back. Some of them were sharp. (I don't think it was a saw or anything, but some things that the school would consider "weapons") and he got suspended for it. The school's go way to overboard on their rules sometimes. Baron Samedi
I haven't heard of these, and once more it seems to be an all-American thing. Why? What is it that blinds people from common-sense? I don't have any little anecdotes to tell, and what is there to say but how much this disgusts me? Sometimes bureacracy is ridiculous and seriously needs a competent review.
