Noisy Ads

Every now and then, when I'm browsing through a few myOtaku sites, they'll be this strange buzzing sound or picture flash sound. It's very annoying, and since I listen to music, it makes things more irritating. Any way you can exclude these annoying ads or make them mute?

I recently switched browsers. The one I was using automatically fragged advertisements for me, so I don't know how long these types of ads have been around and if anyone else has been annoyed by them.

I just refresh the page and usually the ad switches to something different. It's not too huge of a deal in that sense, because it's pretty easy to deal with, but I do agree that the ads have gotten really intrusive lately. Whether it's the paparazzi one, the fly one, or those annoying Monster.com ones that have the scrolling thing if you happen to roll your mouse over by accident, they're annoying. Then there are the flashing ones and crap...bleh.

It seem as though when websites get ads from certain agencies, this sort of thing is unavoidable. I doubt there's little that could be done about it, short of getting rid of any connection with these places... which I can't see being beneficial.

There's ways around it, as you've found. I think if anyone is that annoyed by it they'd find that out as well.

FireFox has an option in it's right-click menu for blocking images from certain sites. Good for blocking those adservers.

I usually don't bother with doing that unless it's a very annoying banner, like those ones that use a strobe light effect. I can't see how any advertiser sees that as effective, lol. Did they do any reasearch into what ticks people off? :p

I agree that the ads may be seen as annoying, heck.. I've been annoyed by them myself.

Those ads, I believe, are only running on myOtaku as we have a different set of ads up on theOtaku.

Depending on if Adam can, we'll probably try and take those ads off of the rotation. But for now, just understand that it helps pay the bill .
