elfpirate
My newest obsession as far as fighting games go is Soul Caliber (I & II). I get so into 'em that I scream obscenities at my opponents whether I'm winning or losing --and I jump up and down in celebration or stomp/punch the floor in the frustration of defeat... totally immature, I know, but I don't care, because I enjoy it so... Needless to say, my family is greatly annoyed with my gaming habits...:animesmil
duoikari
I don't play many fighting games but my favorite one had got to be Pocket fighters, it's like all the street figther characters in chibi version, beating the snot out each other
Vatch
I like soul caliber II. I just love taking Link's big Goron sword and beating the snot out of you opponent's. But really I love any arcade fighting game, but only if it's in the arcade. To me it doesn't seem right to be playing them at home to me.
Havokio
Guilty Gear X 2, Super Smash bros. Melee, or Tekken 5 These are the only tree I have real fun playing. Guilty Gear is suprisingly deep, and Tekken 5 fixed up most of it's problems. Smash has an ENORMOUS amount of depth that casual players will never find. BTW: I don't really like Soul Calibur 2 as mush as everyone here seems to. Don't get me wrong, I didn't say it was bad, and I'm quite good at it, but it doesn't take much skill to be considered "Good" in that game.
2010DigitalBoy
I have multiple favorites. Soul Calibur 2: Best srcade fighter on the Gamecube. I love the way that you can earn all of the new weapons and outfits for your charachter. My personal favorite charachter is Seung Mina. Super Smash Bros. Melee: Great melee game and one of the best, and as Burori said, deep, fighting games ever. It could take years to truly beat this game. (If you've gotten Celebi in a pokeball, you win) Guilty Gear X2: Great and extremely insane 2D fighter. There are like 30 charachters available from the get-go, almost all being either mental, insane, mentally insane, demonic, possed by demons, hair is posessed by demons, or is a demon. (or has been integrated with a demon.) There are also a LOT of options. Games that fall short of being really good: Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance: While the blood is cool, there are plenty of options, and the charachters are just so darn lovable, the gameplay itself falls a bit short, because the moves happen so darn slowly! Tekken 4: I never really liked Tekken 4, because while the charachters are cool, their moves just seemed so boring. Its always punch, kick, punch, kick, no throw-the-scythe-into-their head-and pull-yourself-towards-then tricks. I plan on buying Mortal Kombat Deception, and Im thinking about Dead or Alive ultimate, (though if my mom catches me watching those things jiggle, she'll laugh at me.) Semjaza
In my opinion, the best 3D fighter out there is easily Virtua Fighter 4. I can see if people dislike it, but I find that people who are the most against it generally understand it the least. Good examples of that exist in this very forum. I'm not going to disagree with you there... <_< Anyway, I think VF4 would have been my favorite game had it been more popular. I mean, it just did so much more than any fighter before (and after) it. Those who played the game: did VF4 cripple the release of SC2 for you? SC2 was supposed to be a big, powerful hit, but if you played VF4, you weren't that impressed with it. In ways, you were disappointed that it didn't offer things VF4 did. I wish this game was more popular... I got really good at the game, had an 88% win percentile, reached the rank of Dragonlord, but you can only do so much by yourself (I'm an Aoi user, if you were wondering, so most of my losses were earlier on, heh). In the end, I did enjoy VF4 a lot, but there just weren't enough people to enjoy it with, making SC2 win out in amount of fun to be had.
Havokio
I agree. Virtua Fighter was insane. The problem was that hardly anyone I knew played it. So I practiced less and less, till I found no meaning in doing so.
Musashi189
Yeah VF4 was good the problem was people did'nt know about it that was dissapointing a great fighting game gone to waste with others but now you can get it for like $20 "BUT IM JUST SAYING THIS!!" Virtura Fighter needs another sequal, not a adventure game another fighting game.

Some one was contesting that the game was insanely simple and the combos took no skill. I guess doing a basic combo you can learn in the tutorial mode means you've mastered the game or something. VF4 did very well, really. I think it sold well over a million copies before it became Greatest Hits... Now you can get the much better Evolution version for $20, it replaced the standard version. I don't personally know any more people that play SC2 than VF4. I guess it depends on who your friends are.
Lord Dante
some of my favorite games: dead or alive 2. this game reminds me of ehrgeiz, just with better graphics (and characters!) capcom vs SNK 2 mark of the milennium 2001. how can you go wrong with a game like this? wicked characters from both universes, this game is a classic, especially because you can custoise character costumes and names (my team: vampire, demon and succubi) street fighter alpha 3. needs no explaining soul calibur 2 this game is so much cool. my favorite character to use is ivy, as she has the longest range, and decent power. the wepon master mode is almost as good as soul blade's edge master too. soul blade the original is always best. Final Remix
Soul Calibur 2...solid fighting game when you've only got about 12 seconds to play a quick round. DOA2, easily my fave. If you can figure out which character fits your style exactly, you're unstoppable...even against a button-masher. Ein is a piece of cake to play with, but keep an air-juggle going with Helena. Another fun game is Fighting Vipers. Absolutely the most amazing game ever created. what other game can let you play as an axe-guitar wielding ruffain who's special move is called "dangerous noise"? Oh, and let's not forget the "booty bop!"
Billy Shears
My favorite fighting game...hmm... 3D: Tekken Tag Tornament/ Soul Caliber II My friend and I popped this in about 2 years ago and played it an entire night. We come back to it every once in a while to relive some glory days. I hope Tekken 5 will bring me that much joy. Soul Caliber has all the things a fighter needs. So thats why it's good. ;) 2D/ All time Favorite: Street Fighter Alpha 3. Street Fighter, how I love you so. Take one part awesome control, one part ungodly amount of cool characters (minus Dan), lots of good moves, and endless multiplayer, and voila! SFA3 takes the spot. As for VF4, I only played it once, and it sucked because the kid was way better than me. It's always kind of a drag to get introduced to a game, and for the first time, get your *** beat out the door. -the one and only

BlueYoshi
I find that with fighting games, it's really a matter of your own personal opinion as to which you like best and least. I can agree with Virtua Fighter 4 being the most skill orientated fighter around, but that doesn't mean I like it. I'd prefer a fighter that I find to be fun personally, like Tekken. Of all the Tekken games I've played up to now, they've all been great fun and really enjoyable for me and the people I've played with, but around other fighting games, the experience is no where near as decent. So, I think that polling which fighter is best is a pretty lame way of going about it. It's just up to you, really.

Bloodseeker
The DOA series is my favorite as a whole, with DOA2 being my favorite of the series. The fast matches make playing longer easier, and the lack of projectiles is a plus. (I have a friend that goes crazy with those in other fighting games... he almost never hits, but its still annoying) The only downside to DOA is that the reversals do too much damage. I hated Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, but I had a lot of fun with Deception. I can't quite explain why, but lets just say that I never got bored with multiplayer matches on that and that the story mode was a great addition. Unfortunately, it was missing some of the old classics with Reptile, Jonny Cage, and Jax. However, you also see the return of some old favorites in Liu Kang, Noob Cyboot, and Smoke. (too bad they couldn't make those last two two seperate characters)
NinjaJedi007
my favorites are the dead or alive games. i could never really get into 2D fighters. the freedom of the 3D offers more of an experience. there are multitiered environments and things you can crash into which add that extra something besides just fighting. lots of fast paced action are in the games yet its at the right speed so you can actually appreciate the moves they do. in the newer games, the environments are just beautiful! from particle effects to water reflections, its all good. Kaze
I like basically any fighter I play. 3D: SSB, SSBM, SCII, Tekken Tag Tournament, Tekken 5 2D: Samurai Showdown. Super Smash Brothers: As soon as I first saw the commercial for this game I liked it. After getting it I played it pretty much nonstop until SSBM came out. I still pop it in every now and then to keep in practice though. My best character was Fox. Super Smash Bros. Melee: This is my favorite fighter ever. It looks deceptively simple, but there's a ridiculous amount of depth in the fighting once you learn advanced moves like Wavedashing, and Dash Dancing. (Best characters: Roy, Marth, Peach, Mario, Samus). Just watch a video of two advanced players going at it and you'll understand how intense a fight can be. Soul Calibur 2: This is probably the best 3D fighter I've ever seen, and probably the most fun for me next to the SSB games, because of all the strategy that comes from being able to choose so many weapons for your character of choice. My best characters are Mitsurugi, Link, Nightmare, and Talim. Tekken Tag Tournamet: I seriously played this game for about eleven or more hours with my cousin once. We were around the same skill level in both Tekken Bowling and just fighting so it really made it challenging and fun (though he was a little better at TBowl and I was his superior in fighting). My best charactes were Hwoarang, Law, Paul, and Li Xaioyu. Tekken 5: This game is great. The fighting system is the same as Tekken Tag so I was used to playing to right away, and customization can be pretty fun (plus Starblade). My only problem is that I rarely get to play against anyone, but I want to test my totally insane skills. (Best characters: Hwoarang and King; I am master of the Ugly Kicks)). Samurai Showdown: I havent gotten to play this one in around three years really, but I loved this game. My skills were godly with....that water guy. (Honorable mentions are Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, and Dead or Alive 2.)
LoneTecko
I really enjor the Tekken series alot(#1 forever for me!), Soul Caliber 1 and 2, Dead or Alive, and Dragonball Z Budakai 3, those are really good fighting games but I prefer Tekken a hell lot more kick *** charaters, cool places to fight, and bottom line I love Jin Kazama to fight with hell yes.
