Guest Alchemist
Anime USA was an excelent con. The were raves, workshops, AMV contest, costume contest. Pretty much everything you would expect, they even had a live J-Rock band. The only con I have ever been to that was somewhat lacking was Anime Mid-Atalantic 2003. But that con got much better in 04. Japan
Which anime convention? I've never gone to one yet, but I'm going to my first one soon. It'll be the Sakura Con, and I can't wait at all. Not this time, but I'd like to cosplay as either Sailor Jupiter (it's easy, ok?), or Lulu. Panda told me that I'm going to have a blast, so I'm taking her word for it.

Kuraineko
I'm going to the one in Tennesee too, but it is also my first but I'm so sure it will be awesome! Can't wait, I might start going to them more often after this!
Panda
Panda told me that I'm going to have a blast, so I'm taking her word for it.
We shall have fun! I think Sakura-con is a great first time con since it isn't so huge you feel overwhelmed by everything going on. It also helps that this con is in our backyard so to speak. As for what I thought was the best anime convention has to go to Anime Expo. There is something about the energy that thousands of anime fans together that is hard to explain. With so many people there are also so many vendors and a larger pool of guests from the anime industries. Your chance to meet big names are higher at a huge con like AX than at a smaller convention. So, in my opinion best first time con would be going to a smaller local con like Sakura-con or Kumoricon. Best overall convention is Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. r2vq
I've been to two different Anime Conventions in Toronto. CN Anime once. Anime North twice, and again this May. I suggest you a few things. 1. Bring water bottles and food. A lot of water bottles. Food and water is always expensive. 2. SLEEP! Don't go sleepless! You wont enjoy yourself! 3. Read your schedule and plan where you want to go so you don't miss out on things. 4. Bathe. It's important to keep your hygene up. XP 5. Go with friends! It's always best with friends! 6. Don't be shy! Meet new people! Make new friends! You never know who you'll meet. 7. Enjoy yourself. You're there to have fun. -ArV

Tell Godel before sporadically switching costumes on the day you plan to meet up with her. I think it's also important to bring a relatively large amount of cash, be willing to chew out fellow geeks, and to be prepared to fight to the death over specific collector's items. Kamuro
I agree with r2vq's list, be open to new people, there is such a variety of people at the conventions, chances are you'll find someone you like
You Don't Care
I went to my first convention just yesterday. It is called AniZona (Phoenix, Arizona) and it lasted all weekend. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget. It was even better than going to Disney Land! HAHAHAHA! It had a few special guests, but I didn't pay much attention to them except the two major ones. Amano (the artist for the Final Fantasy games) and Hide (local Arizona manga-ka). Not only was Amano's Panel amazing, but seeing Hide's work was some of the best first works I've seen. If you want, you can check out Hide's site at: www.playgroundpop.com There isn't anything now, but I'll update when there is. Anyway, when going to a convention I have really only one thing to say. Bring LOTS of money for entry, food, manga, anime, etc. There really not much else that I can think of now.
