Best Live Show You've Attended

The title says it all, basically. What, in your opinion, was the best live show you've seen? What made it enjoyable? Did you get stamped by idiots wearing heels in the mosh? *bitterness*

For me, it's a toss up between Jet and The Darkness. Understand, I don't actually enjoy these bands at all, lol, but I was at Big Day Out, and wandering back and forward between stages makes it so you'll see someone you don't like eventually. I actually stuck around for Jet and The Darkness, though (as opposed to leaving immediately like Black Eyed Peas  ) and they were the best shows I saw all day, bar none.

With The Darkness it was just... exhilirating. The guys, particularly the lead singer, knew exactly how to work the crowd, and filled the stage completely. His performance was also spot on too, and he nailed pretty much every power-falsetto The Darkness are famous for, lol. When he had a costume change mid performance it was even better - the guys were really into glamming it up, and giving the crowd a good time, and they did it well.

As for Jet, I initially didn't mean to stick around. But I got pressed against a security fence and eventually squeezed into the mosh, so I didn't get much choice in the matter, lol. It was fun nonetheless, as, like The Darkness, Jet knew how to work the crowd. The atmosphere they generated was electric, and it was just enjoyable being there, watching all these people go off their nut for Jet, lol. And getting swept up. ^_^;

And yeah... I think I should also give honourable mention to the Mars Volta, but this post is long enough, lol.

During my life I've always vowed that I would somehow see certain bands. Of course, I figured this would be impossible since a few of them were broken up. The Pixies and Apocalypse Hoboken come to mind. As many know, the Pixies are back together and touring. I went to that show and it was great.

However, the best show I've ever been to was a reunion show about two years ago for a few Chicago punk bands. Three of them reformed and played a radio station benefit show of sorts: The Bollweevils, Apocalypse Hoboken and The Traitors. I was only really interested in Apocalypse Hoboken, although The Bollweevils are very good. The Traitors were better with their original singer, I think, but whatever.

Anyway, the show was absolutely amazing. They'd not played in years, but you'd never know it. The crowd for them was pretty sizable for such a small place (I read that about 1,200 people were there total for the show, but I'm sure a lot were on the balcony). They played a dozen or so songs since they weren't the headliners, but they still were on for almost an hour I'd say.

I was pretty close to the stage and everyone was moving together like one collective being. It was great being with people who loved these songs as much as I do and possibly even more so. Everyone was singing along and going nuts. The thing that was nice was that even though everyone was bouncing all over the place, no one was trying to actually hurt anyone or be a complete idiot. Any time someone fell over, someone else picked them up.

I had a great time there and picked up an amazing gig poster at the end of it all (And a neat Traitors shirt -- Trivia Fact: Matt Skiba of The Alkaline Trio was originally in The Traitors, the shirt says "Bring me the head of Matt Skiba).

I wrote other posts on it here before like this one: http://www.otakuboards.com/showthread.php?t=34372

Mosh pits are so evil. You try not to get sucked into them but it somehow it happens every time without fail. They're like swirling vortexes of doom.

Concerts, right. Something Corporate has always been a pretty good show, and the lead singer is known for jumping on his piano and setting it on fire, so that's always nice. They're also really good about giving guitar pics and drum sticks away.

Sister Hazel is always one of my favorite concert bands because they're so laid back and there are no mosh pits, heh. They play in Florida a lot, seeing as they originated here, and so there's that definite home town feel to them. Their guitarist is amazing and one of the other members never plays with his shoes on. One of the greatest things about their concerts is that for one reason or another everybody knows the words to almost all their songs and so we're all singing all the time and that is a ton of fun.

There's also this band called Virginia Coalition that opened for them once and they were awesome. I had no idea who they were beforehand but I left with one of their cds and a t-shirt, heh. They all had so much energy on stage and they were jumping around, climbing on ****, and there was a guy ringing a cow bell but it really looked like he was having a seizure, lol.

It's also fun when the bands playing together play practical jokes or bring some of the members from other bands on stage to play with them. It makes the experience so much cooler because that kind of stuff just exudes fun and friendliness.

Has anybody seen Say Anything in concert? I'm going Sunday and super excited about it.

Alicia Keys.
It was incredible. She sounds so much better live than on the record, which is what really seperates the true artists from the fake. She made you feel like you were the only one listening, worked the crowd for her upbeat songs, and is just such a talented person in general.
Even if you are not a big fan in general, but are at least somewhat interested in her music, go see her live; You'll come out totally inspired.

Tegan & Sara were pretty good too.
They're quite entertaining between songs, and I just love the sound of their voices.

METALLICA!!! It was the coolest fricken thing. Godsmack opened for them, and they were really good, but Metallica just blew me away. Their live show is so powerful. The crowd was crazy. It was probably the best concert of my life, I just hope I can see 'em again one day.......before they retire.

Yeah, I saw one of the shows on that tour. Godsmack suprised me very much. I was expecting a lame, boring set. They turned out to be very good. Metallica, of course, was beyond awesome. It was without a doubt, one of the greatest experiances of my life. I cannot wait to see them again. Ministry put on a great show when I saw them. Sevendust and Nonpoint were very good when I saw them.

Muse was by far the best gig I've ever been to. Interpol in a close second. I enjoyed the Darkness and the Scissor Sisters with the way they work the crowd, but Muse and Interpol don't need to do that. They are such intense bands that the mood ends up in the same place as a band who puts on a big show.

My friend did say that there were Fire-Breathing Midgets on Unicycles at the Motley Crue gig, though. I'd like to see that.

YES!!! i agree with pretty much all of those(havent seen the scissor sisters)
The gig i went to with muse thouigh the crowd blew majorly, but the performance itself was really intense and amazing!

The most fun and into the music i have been in a concert was probably the warped tour or green day. Warped tour was my first real moshing at a concert and my first crowd surfing, and i loved it all. green day was real good as well because they got the crowd all into it and started pulling people on stage to play the instruments. i got punched in the head while crowd surfing...but it was still cool!

Im REALLY looking forward to slipknot! that gig will be quite a show! cant wait to do the "jump the ***** up" during spit it out. its their last show too so they HAVE to do something good. hope i dont get killed though...

I've been to lots of good shows, ozzfest last year was alright, and taste of chaos was pretty good too, my favorite was probably an Atreyu and Norma Jean show played at a club around here, for a small show it was one of the best I've ever seen, each played about an hour set and the crowd was crazy

I've been to a lot of shows, but i'd have to say the best show was Cursive, The Rapture and Mogwai all in the same show last summer. I had already seen Cursive a few times before and they never fail to disappoint. The Rapture completely blew me away with how awesome they are live. But Mogwai kinda sucked, Dont get me wrong, i love Mogwai, but the way they play live is the exact opposite of how they play on their albums, but it was all in all a stellar show. Something that was kinda funny though, was the bassist from Mogwai had on a shirt with the NERV logo on it from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

The best show I've ever been to was D.I. and a bunch of local punk bands. So awesome. So much energy through all the sets. These guys knew how to work the crowd. My god. They were throwing stickers and junk at us, stage diving, inviting people to go up and sing with them, all that nifty stuff.

The main thing that I remember from that show was the pit. The pit was awesome for the entire show. But when it came up to D.I., the headliner, my god. Practically everyone got into the pit, including me. When I took a break and went up to the balcony, you couldn't see any floor. At all. It was just a swirling mass of punks. After I saw that, I went back down and into the pit. I enjoyed it until some stage diver landed on my head. Ouchies.

MOTORHEAD.

i went to a motorhead concert in november, and it was frickin' awesome. three hours standig right in front of a marshall stack in the middle of a mosh pit is certainly an experience worth paying money for.

there were two other bands at this show. an opening band called class of zero, and sepultura. all of them were great.

I'd have to say that Green Day's American Idiot Tour show was pretty goddamn amazing. Few bands can match the sheer amount of energy they display on stage. The songs all just seem to hit harder and sound faster than they do on their albums. I've been to a number of shows and I can honestly say that I've never seen another band control a crowd like Billie Joe (lead singer of the band, for the uninformed). When you're in the crowd, you know you're his ***** and you'll do anything he tells you to. Of course, there's always entertaining Green Day show staples like pulling audience members out to play the instruments (in which the guitarist chosen is lucky enough to keep the guitar he/she plays) and Billie Joe kissing at least one male per show (usually that same guitarist).
