The Official Otaku Boards Top 50 Anime Series: Voting Thread

Recommended Posts

Here's an idea for a project that I came up with. For the next 3 months, people will be able to post their Top 10 lists of their favorite anime TV shows (no OAVs or movies) and their reasons for the choices. Once that period of time is done, I'll construct a Top 50 list of the animes with the most points (animes in the #1 spots on people's Top 10s equal 10 points, animes in the #2 spots equal 9, etc.). Also, if people want to change their choices, please edit your original posts instead of making new ones as to avoid clutter.

My personal Top 10:
1. Samurai Champloo (The anime for people who like anime, and then some. Being able to make a story rooted in Japanese history while not throwing off American viewers is quite a feat. Add in some stunning action animation and a good dose of comedy and you have yourself the greatest anime ever!)
2. Full Metal Alchemist (Tragic-sociopological-military-pseudoscientific- religious- philosophical-psychological-coming-of-age-action-adventure-soul-redemption-commentary made fun for kids!)
3. Cowboy Bebop (It's just so classic! Violence, satire, emotion, character development, jazz, this show had it all! There may be some animes that have surpased it in recent years, but Shinichiro Wantanabe's space drama masterpiece will always have a place in my heart. Let's jam!)
4. Paranoia Agent (They're going crazy... And you see inside their head... And that kid attacks them... I'm scared, and I'm loving it!)
5. Fruits Basket (I'm almost embarassed to put it on this list. It seems to be almost worshipped by the "INU-Y4SSHA IZ MIEN!!!!!!1111!!11!1!" crowd, and when I watch it with people it is hard for me to discuss the show's greatness when everyone else is discussing whether Yuki or Kyo is cuter. Still, a moving storyline and excellent characterization is still a moving storyline and excellent characterization, so it deserves to be on the list!)
6. Neon Genesis Evangelion (It isn't the greatest thing ever. It is seriously flawed in places. Sometimes its even painful to watch. And for all its problems, it is one of the most incredible, uplifting, meaningful stories ever put to film!)
7. Azumanga Daioh (Everyone needs a bit of laughter in life, but sometimes our troubles bog us down from finding it. This series finds the humor in even the smallest of nuances, and a brilliantly understated "show about nothing" certainly has everything going for it!)
8. Rouroni Kenshin (Mostly for the Kyoto arc really. Tokyo was overall mediocre and Meji was an abomination, but the excellent fights and deep drama of the Kyoto arc alone push it up onto the list!)
9. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (The animation is amazing, the choreography near-perfect, and the story manages to enthrall me every time I get the chance to watch it, even if I sometimes don't understand what the hell is going on!)
10. Gundam SEED (You can't really have a list of the greatest anime without at least one Gundam series, and Gundam SEED is the cream of the crop of what Gundam shows I've seen. Granted, I'm not following the show on CN and have a limited DVD budget, so I'm just getting to the good part, but virtue of characterization and political intrigue make it a good series I'm sure will get even better!)

01. Revolutionary Girl Utena - If I could watch only one series for the rest of my life, I'd pick Utena. The first season is alright. The second season is exponentially better. And the third season simply tops everything else I've seen. For me, Utena has more replay value than pretty much any other anime out there. I'm always amazed at how my thoughts on the show change as I re-watch it. The movie, while different, is nice enough in its own way.

02. Soukyuu no Fafner - Fafner is not perfect, but it has a ton of heart. I enjoyed this mecha anime more than Evangelion and RahXephon put together. The first six or seven episodes are rather pedestrian, but it slowly and sneakily starts getting better; they switched script-writers for the second half of the series, and it really shows. The main themes are interwoven with incredible skill, and it all comes together in one stunning emotional climax.

03. Melody of Oblivion - For starters, anything that resembles Utena is okay in my book. MoO is best described as a shounen/sci-fi Utena on acid. If that sounds scary... well, it is. MoO owes an obvious debt to Utena, but at the same time it's quite unique. The two series complement each other perfectly.

04. RahXephon - I feel sort of strange describing RahXephon as "comfort food," but for me that's essentially what it is. RahXephon looks great and has a wonderful story. It's quite re-watchable, and the movie provides a much-needed alternate perspective on the events of the show.

05. AIR TV - It's beautiful. It's moving. It actually made me want to play an ero-game, which is no small feat.

06. Brigadoon - Often overlooked, Brigadoon is well-directed and surprisingly dark. It provides everything from silly comedy & fanservice to unexpected romance to brutal mecha-style battles. And beneath it all, there's a tightly written, intricate plot.

07. Full Moon wo Sagashite - FMwS has the best anime ending of all time. Really, it does. And the rest of the show isn't half bad either.

08. Kaleido Star - Unfortunately I've only been able to watch the first season--in fact, that's the primary reason I haven't placed this any higher. However, half of the show was enough to give Kaleido Star a place in my heart.

09. Elfen Lied - If you can look past the nudity and violence, Elfen Lied is a very sincere and hopeful series. It has some of the strongest (both physically and otherwise) female characters you'll find in any anime.

10. Hunter x Hunter - The greatest shounen action anime ever made (and no, I don't think FMA quite fits into that category). Yoshihiro Togashi completely topped himself with this one--it outshines Yu Yu Hakusho, which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself. It's refreshing to see a show of this style that doesn't involve trying to save the world.

Most of my choices are fixed, but some of the individual rankings may be subject to change (i.e. I might decide to bump AIR up or down depending on how the last episode goes). Ironically I haven't even finished two of the shows on this list; I guess this means they're just that good, haha.

This could be really fun if it becomes a regular thing (and people actually try to list reasons)... I'd be interested in seeing how the list changes from year to year.

1: Naruto I love Naruto simply becuase I can relate to Naruto and his position and how people feel about him. It's the first anime that sort of touched me in some way. And the style of the ninja's is awesome also.

2: Shaman King This is such a cool anime. The characters are great and fighting is awesome. The basic idea is pretty good also. For once I can enjoy the main character.

3: Rorouni Kenshin It's a cool anime. It keeps me on my feet. There's alot of action and a good storyline backing it up. And some good characters you can bond with.

4: Yu Yu Hakusho Hei is badass. This anime is great becuase of how good the fighting is. The dark tournament was the greatest chapter in the series in my opinion.

5: Magical Arcade Shop Abenobashi This is the anime that sort of got me back into anime. It's got a really good idea backing it up and it's just so random. It's hilarious.

6: Inuyasha It's a pretty good anime. I got into it for awhile but it's a little repetetive. The story is really good. And Miroku is the coolest character.

7: Tenchi Muyo I was so into this series for the longest time. Tenchi kicks arse! A pretty hilarious anime.

8: Dragon Ball The first one. Not with Z or GT. Those were just repetitive. The original series kicked butt. It makes me sad how bad the young GT Goku is compared to Original series Goku.

9: Trigun It's a funny series but not I really got into. The setting and idea was cool but they messed it all up with retarted characters *cough* Maryl and Minnie *cough*

10: Lupin the 3rd Classic anime rocks. This was a hilarious anime. It's just that it's old and their techniques for animating back then weren't as good as today.

1. Senkaiden Houshin Engi

This is perhaps my favorite shonen anime. It's a blend of comedy, action, adventure, and drama. The story is interesting (based on ancient Chinese history, and mythology), and there's a good mix of characters and the quality of animation stays consistently okay throughout the entire series (sometimes it'll jump from pretty okay, to a much sharper, cleaner looking style). I think anyone should give it a try, especially the DVDs, since they have a lot of extra, useful information (history lessons too!).

2. Cowboy Bebop

I enjoy this one for the great music, action and nice animation. There's a not-so-typical story, and plenty of humor too that livens it up some when needed. CB should definitely be on the list.

3. The Slayers

I love this one. Full of comedy, action, and adventure, and it's also freaking long. The animation is pretty old, but it's definitely entertaining enough that it shouldn't bother anyone who likes this type of stuff. This is a classic that all anime fans should see a least a little of at some point.

4. Trigun

This one has great comedy, cool gunfights and a freaky main character, who switches between being a complete wimp, a bit of a lecher, or a completely serious guy who will do anything to save people. I don't see how anyone with cable could have missed watching Trigun by now seeing as how it's been shown on Adult Swim about ten or more times by now. It's just an awesome anime.

5. Rurouni Kenshin

The main character of this one is basically Vash with a sword. He'll switch from a goofy, harmless looking guy, to a battle hardened warrior who just wants to save people, but is too much of a nice guy to kill his enemies. There's a good mix of action, adventure, and comedy here, with nice animation for a series of this length. Definitely classic.

6. Fullmetal Alchemist

What I've seen of this series is more than enough reason to put it on my list, even if the rest of it turns out to suck. The animation is smooth and clean throughout the series, there's interesting philosophy on the value of human life going on, it's funny, and the action and characters are all cool.

7. Fushigi Yuugi

This is one of the only shoujo anime I've watched, and it's definitely the only I've ever called one of my favorite anime. This one is pretty long, but has some really nice art and pretty goods animation throughout the whole series, plus there's some nice martial arts action throughout it, too. My only problem is that Miaka and Tamahome scream each other's names more than Inuyasha and Kagome ever did... But yeah, it's still great.

8. Excel Saga

I don't care what some people say about it, but it stands to be the funniest anime I've ever seen. It has nice clean animation, and the parodies are hilarious. If you don't like it, fine, but there are plenty of people who'll agree that it's awesome.

9. Ranma 1/2

This one almost single handedly started the harem genre back in the eighties. Everyone says it can get really repetitive since it's so long, and the animation really shows its age, but I'm putting it on my list because it's so classic. It's a funny, rather original anime, and the various freaky martial arts techniques throughout it are enough reason to like it if this type of humor is your thing.

10. DragonBall

I don't know about you, but DragonBall basically started me off in the anime world, since it was perhaps the first one I saw. It's really, really, old looking by now, but the martial arts and humor is still entertaining to me.

1. Full Metal Alchemist: The only anime that has and probably ever will succeed in me enjoying all of the episodes and actually paying attention 100% of the time. One of the very few anime that has me liking/loving all the characters, and the storyline is original. For once, the art style and animation has pleased me 'till no end. I haven't seen anime art this refreshing since...well, I don't know. Great themes that blend together very nicely, add some better-than-usual music, nice action parts, philosophy, everything else in the anime world (except giant robots, magical girls, and samurai) and you have FMA. <3

2. Neon Genesis Evangelion: When I first watched this, I had not watched much anime. I thought it was the greatest thing, like, ever. My view of it has been somewhat tarnished, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. *awww* Although the storyline and background was influenced, I feel Hideaki Anno did a wonderful job putting it all together and actually making it successful. The Evangelion designs were fresh and new, the amount of mentally screwed up people (everyone) filled up my angsty loving part plenty, and... I freaking love Kaworu to death. The series is majorly flawed in some areas, but it's still lovable. Oh, and I must say: I LIKED THE ENDING. Take that, you haters! >:D

3. Nadia of the Mysterious Seas: Pretty sweet. Yay for good storylines! The characters are all like-able, even though Nadia herself was sort of bitc*y sometimes. It was just cool for me to watch, like those old childhood movies you loved. ...Even though this one had lots o' explosions and dead people. :) Not 'OMG Brilliant!', but I just liked it for some reason.

I will finish this list later...although I'd disregard the rest of them. Silly, I know, but I'm the most picky anime fan to ever grace the world...ever.

4. Gravitation: In truth, I have not watched many anime entirely. Most of the time, I judge whether or not I'm going to watch the series based on the first several episodes. I'm adding Gravitation because it's one of those anime series that has 'place in my heart'. It has its flaws, but in it lies a pleasant series to watch and laugh at. It was my first shounen-ai series, so it brings back good ole' memories of when I stayed up late into the night just to watch the next episode. It was also the first anime that really shocked me because of its visual content.
Seriously, when I watched that scene where Eiri was...um...being violated, I never expected something like that to come up!
Once again, this is for another 'place in my heart' things.

P.S. If we were allowed to nominate movies, I'd use My Neighbor Totoro to fill up nine of my slots and rant about how freaking awesome it is.

1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Best character developement ever! Everything in NGE not revolving completely around Shinji was exactly as it would be. Aside from that, I love the gradual turn to a darker story. It also has the greatest anime mascot of all time in it, PenPen!

2. Berserk
Also has great character devlopement. I guess that I'm just a sucker for impending doom, because I love the fact that, while everything gets continually better for the main people (the Band of the Hawk gains prestige, Guts and Caska get together, etc.), you know from the foreshadowing first episode that everything's gonna go to ***** eventually. And lets not forget the bloody action! Yeah!

3. Great Teacher Onizuka
I guess that I'm also a sucker for great character delopement, because all of my favorite series have it. Onizuka ties with Guts from Berserk as my favorite anime protagonist of all time. This is one of the two anime to make me laugh so hard that I cried. (the other was Slayers) And just like I had to mention PenPen with NGE, I think that its absolutely neccassary to mention everyone's favorite psychotic blond, Kanzaki! I can't believe that she didn't make it into the live action!

4. Fullmetal Alchemist
The only reason that this isn't one rung higher is because I want to see where this whole thing is leading before I move it to my top three. I must say that I like where I think this is going. The thing with philospers stone las week was a good sign.Another impending doom story? I think so! The idea of alchemy is a great one, its nice to see some original attacks for once.

5. Yu Yu Hakusho
I don't care if you think this is just another action-packed shounen anime or not, I think that Yu Yu Hakusho deserves a place on any action fan's not-so-dusty shelf. YYH takes the drawn-out action of a shounen and packs them with (once again) character developement and humor. In DBZ, it got really tiring to see the 100 identical energy balls in every episode. In YYH, you never see the same attack so many times it gets repetetive. Even the spirit gun, which you see pretty often, is used sparingly enough that it keeps its effectiveness as a signature move, unlike the Kamehameha Wave.

6. Slayers
Much like FMA, the only reason why this higher on the list is because I haven't seen enough of it. As a matter of fact, I've only seen one OVA (which I own) and read a bit of the manga. But both made me laugh harder than any other anime or manga at the time had. It really makes me wonder why I haven't collected more of it...

7. Outlaw Star
If you're looking for a really fun anime, look no further than Outlaw Star! Gun fights, sword fights, magic fights, fist fights, ship fights, ship races, and comical situations. What more could you ask for when you're looking to turn off your brain and go into autopilot?

8. Tenchi
Another enjoyable turn-off-your-brain anime, but this time, its of the comedy variety with action as a secondary element. A bunch of women fighting over a bland, indecisive, appeasing loser. Interesting premise, even more interesting execution. *watches as Washu leaves Ryoko tied up in a dark lab and videotapes her crying like a scared little girl*

9. Cowboy Bebop
The action is some of the best in anime, the main story is one of my favorites, and the characters are all likable? So why is it so low on the list? Simply because I'm huge fan of continuality.Only 5 or so of the 20+ episodes deal with the primary story, the rest are stand-alone. Filler episodes are almost an inevitablity in any anime that goes over 12 episodes. And they serve their own purpose of enhancing character developement by drawing them out of the main problem so that you can get a better view of how they handle situations. But when 75% of your episodes are pure filler, you've got a problem. And that's why CB will never be in my top 5.

10. Inuyasha
This one used to be way higher on my list, back when filler episodes didn't rule the coop. Its still a fun show to watch though, even if it has got to the point where the episodes almost always follow one of several basic overused formulas. The major plot advancing episodes are still cool though, especially the Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru episodes. Those fights are always cool.
It actually made me want to play an ero-game, which is no small feat.
Says the creator of the Yaoi/Yuri thread. :p

I don't think I've seen ten animes, nevermind having ten favorites! I do agree with Lunox that FMA won't be topped for quite some time - if at all. FMA was put together so intricately that nothing feels wrong, even if there are almost constrasting elements in the series. While I haven't seen many anime series, FMA was just that freakin' good, haha.

Bloodseeker, I think the main aspect of Cowboy Bebop was the "hip, cool" atmosphere and not so much the story. The story was, in fact, not all that great, haha. However, Cowboy Bebop is highly stylish, and if it took itself too seriously and tried too hard on the story, it probably wouldn't feel as "laid-back" as it does. I think the story fillers just add to the charm CB has, even if they stray from the story. In other words, I think CB's strong point is the atmosphere, not the story.

duoikari, please edit in reasons for your choices--just follow the example set by the original poster and everyone else who has replied to this thread. Thanks.
Says the creator of the Yaoi/Yuri thread. :p
Well, I'm not exactly the game's target audience. :animesmil

Lunox's post reminded me that there are a couple of anime I came very close to adding--Nadia is one of them. I almost put FMA in Hunter x Hunter's slot, but I think I want to see more of it first.

I may have to find a way to get Turn A Gundam on my list, although I'm not sure what it would replace... Elfen Lied, maybe. I never thought I would be this crazy about a Gundam series, but Turn A is really great. And I find Romi Paku's Loran a lot more appealing than her Ed (just in terms of simple vocal work, not personality or dialogue or anything).

WOW, thats a lot of Nastalgia. I'll only do series in which I have seen the whole thing, which meens no FullMetal or Samurai Deeper Kyo or Neon Genesis.

1. Trigun: there are plenty other animes that have better stories, better action, better charachters, and better animation, but Trigun is the only anime I have ever seen where there is not a single episode I don't like.

2. Samurai X: Brilliant, bloody, and all around cool. Learning about Kenshin's childhood brings me great joy, and the fight scenes are simply stunning. The movie was pretty cool as well. The one that took place after Rurouni Kenshin, though, was quite dissapointing.

3. Cowboy Bebop: Come on, its a classic! What other show is this hip? Some episodes of this show really blew me away and the music is AMAZING.

4. FLCL: I think the main reason I really like this one is because I found a site that actually deeply explained everything that happened, allowing me to understand just what is going on.

5. King of Bandits Jing: This would be higher up if it weren't for the fact that what exactly is gong on is never explained. While I love the humor, sense of adventure, and all-around creativity, I didn't like the lack of closure.

6. Rurouni Kenshin: What can I say, I love the charchters and I'm a sucker for samurai battles.

7. Inuyasha: Demons, demons, and demons. I don't know why, but I have always loved this sshow, though it was better before they started all the Naraku crap.

8. .hack//SIGN The charachters are lovable and the story is unbeleivable. I only wish there was a little more combat. One episode can seem to last a million years.

9. Yu Yu Hakusho: Sure, it started to pretty much suck after the Dark Tournament, but I can't help but love this show. I think the reason I like it so much is because it offers the intense action that Dragon Ball Z tried to get, but it didn't have all that dragged out BS, and the charachters don't constantly die.

10. Pokemon (first season): I could still sit through the whole first season of this show and not get bored. Sure the new episodes suck, but back then every episode was a new, fun adventure.

WOW, UBER NOSTALGIA

Effin'... I just wrote a long post with so much detail and then when I hit post it says I'm not logged in. ¬¬ jkkjhsfdkjsd Blah. Here's a shortened version. Haha.

1) One Piece - Great short with a great sense of humour. Without all the annoying cliches. Not to say that it doesn't have any... just that it handles them very well. :) Its hard to hate Luffy, and every other character is so lovable. If you're looking for a whimsical, action-packed anime with no romance, then One Piece is the one for you. :)

2) Full Metal Alchemist - I like the manga more but the anime is just as great. The story is well done and the art is top notch. It mixes the humour in well with the seriousness (not many shows can do that withou seeming weird).

3) Neon Genesis Evangelion - I don't think anyone can argue that this is the most controversial anime of all time. And you have to admit that its got to be one of the best out there, whether you're a fan or not. Though the first watch, you won't notice these things but every scene has significance to it. Every tiny thing that you wouldn't think is important has some sort of meaning to it. Rewatching the show, you'll notice just how much time was put into this show. Many people hated how the series ended but if you've only watched it once, it's a bit hard to grasp that it centres around Shinji's psyche, not the battles or anything like that. So really, the ending was quite fitting. And the movies more than made up for that, in my own opinion.

4) Cowboy Bebop - Spike is just so cool. Like, smooth cool. The characters are designed so well. When its funny, its really funny (Mushroom Samba) but when its serious, it can really creep you out (Pierrot Le Fou). Even though the main story is broken down, it doesn't seem dragged out like in some other animes (i.e. Inu-Yasha). This show can really get you attached to its characters. And the way they handled the ending was just great.

5) Fruits Basket - First word that came to mind: cute. Although the manga keeps on going where the anime ends, Furuba is just an anime you have you watch. Each character story just tears at your heart and can make you cry. (Hatori's was my favourite.) Its fun and whimsical, until you reach the last episode. What happens is rather unexpected bt brings you even closer to the characters.

6) Shaman King - Shounen but fortunately, the battles don't last for more than 2 episodes (except the last one). I prefer the manga here as well, but its still just a great watch. Its fun watching the characters grow. Its funny and well worth the time.

7) Rurouni Kenshin - The anime got rid of the best arc, in my opinion, but other than that, this show was really great. When there was an important arc going on, no fillers rattled the sequence of episodes. The Shishio arc was so well done and the fight scenes were great. Not only that, but Kenshin's backstory in the OAVs were just amazing. The art was top-notch and the story was so wonderfully done.

8) Witch Hunter Robin - YTV just aired this and I thought that the story was so amazing. It seemed so well thought out and it really gets you hooked. The animation was so gorgeous too. I couldn't believe that I hadn't watched the series before. Everything ties together perfectly and the ending wasn't as open-ended as Eva but was still in need of interpretation. I love how they handled that.

9) Slayers (including NEXT and TRY) - So funny and such great stories. The first movie was what got me into anime in the first place. The humour can be so unexpected that you'll laugh your arse off. (I loved episode 7 of NEXT xDD). Humour, seriousness, romance... they were all mixed together well. Very fun watch. And Xellos is so great guy... as in cool great.

10) Full Moon wo Sagashite - Even though I think the manga is 100x better than the anime, I just have to include this in the list. There's a lot of fillers where it doesn't need any and the way they portrayed Izumi was horrible (Izumi was my favourite character) but the ending more than made up for that. It can really make you cry in sadness and happiness. If you wanna watch this, I suggest going for the manga first but this is still really worth it.

I might edit this later... I've forgotten a lot of animes I've watched. e.e

I'll be honest, I haven't seen enough anime in general to make a top ten list, however i will list some of my favorites in order.

1) Cowboy Bebop- A fun anime with great artwork, interesting/unique characters, and some of the best music i've heard an anime to have. Plus Most of the episodes are random, not dealing mush with the story line, making it easy to watch once in a while, with out being lost as to what is happening. I was sceptical about the movie when it came out, i didn't really think anything could live up to the series, but they amazingly pulled that off as well, and it fits conveniently into the series as well. Of course my nomination is for the series, not the movie, considering the rules here. This is also one of the only series that not only wasn't bad in english dub, but was actually better dubbed.
Coming from me, that means a lot.

2) Neon Genesis: Evangelion- This had such a very deep, meaningful story, on many levels. You truly can't appreciate it without watching it at least twice, a masterpiece of an anime. Some people don't like the movies at all, i didn't mind them. They were ok, if you disregard the last two episodes of the series. But the series... just great.

3) X (X/1999)- A similarly compelling story, with great characters who all have unique pasts and powers. Fun to watch, and similarly addicting to read into. Clamp certianly knows how to pul it off.

4) Naruto- Intensly addicting, and fun to watch. After every episode, i already want to watch the next, wich is sadly imposible, as they are still releasing it in japan. But thanks to BitTorrent, i gratefully get a new episode each week.

5) Trigun- I really don't know what to say here, it's just good. The moral value of the story is very rich and nice. Not to mention Vash rocks...

6) Rurouni Kenshin- Quite similar to Trigun really, with the whole morals thing, only with a samurai atyle rather than wild west gunslinger. The movie was pretty good, and i loved the OVA's, but that doesn't really matter here...

7) Hellsing- Vampires rule, little more to say than that. It's just awsome
to watch Alucard transform and kick some ***. especially in the last couple episodes.
8) Ninja Scroll- This is where you begin to see the shortcomings of my anime watching. It wasn't a bad anime, kind of good really, but i know that if (when) i see more anime, this will quickly change. It's got some good fights to it
(when Jubei stabbed the lizard man throught the mouth. it wasn't a big fight it just stick out in my mind).
The movie was much better, but you know...

Well, sadly that's it for me, and most others put me to shame, i know... :animedepr

I've also noticed a few other people who had FLCL in their list. Well it is good, but you apparently failed to realize that it is NOT an anime tv series, but an OVA series, thus disqualifying it from this tournament. :animeswea

1.Ruroni Kenshin-that was a great one for me the chareters were so cool especially Hajime Satio my favorite fighter in the Kenshin series.

2.Full Metal Alchemist-I could honestly say this show rocks and diserves 1st but samuri's are cool but this show is freakin sweet I love all the chareters Al's the best Ed's cool but I like the faces on the armor Al makes happy, sad, angry, and all.

3.Ghost In The Shell-The movie was so damn good could never forget, the Stand Alone Complex is sweet but the movie...aww dude you don't evan know.

4.Gad Guard-Sorta like Gundam but diffrent story, not in space, and just livin life to the fullest the Teckoes are really cool I know Gundam has impressive robots but Gad Guard looks really pretty.

5.Inuyasha- Love the story, chareters, and music at the ending credits but when the hell are they gonna kill Naraku? man it's taken so long.

6.Cowboy Bebop-It classic it's to sweet to be called anime it's about alot of things in it that's cool, I was always confused if Ed was a boy, or a girl, looks like a boy, and talks like a girl creepy but I love Ed she's funny.

7..Hack/Legend of Twilight-I looks like a kids show but I like it that's all that matters Shugo, and Rena are cool.

8.Yu Yu Hakusho-The entire series was really cool Kuwabara is the man, but the thing that dissapointed was the demon tunnel series it wasn't all that good.

9.Shaman King-Wasn't all that impressive but I liked 5 or 6 episodes.

10.Magical Shoppin Arcade Abenobashi-Loved it but too short aww man.

(It really sucked that FLCL was a OVA but that's things but I still say FLCL will rock forever for me yeah.)

1. Yu Yu Hakusho- My favorite by far, it has some of the best characters I've seen and they're development is good as well. It some of the most insane fights especially later in the series.

2. Berserk- I'm a sucker for an anime like this, I love the fighting, and Griffith, w00t.

3. Rurouni Kenshin- As well as YYH, Rurouni Kenshin has awesome characters and the story progresses very well (a little slow at first, but it picks up).

4. Dragonball- Although its not one of my favorites, like many it was the first anime I was really interested in, although GT was kind of a let down, DB definitely is worth watching.

5. Naruto- As someone said earlier, the characters are easy to relate to, and definitely likeable, I.E. my name

6. Fullmetal Alchemist-Seems to be really well liked among people here, and although its not my favorite, it is a solid show.

7. Inuyasha-I am impressed how the show has progressed, with a lengthy series and 3 movies its made quite a name for itself.

8. Witch Hunter Robin-I also really liked this show. It doesn't get much recognition, but given a chance its a very good show with a very good story.

9. Trigun-I loved the concept, and Vash is definitely one of my favorite anime characters of all time.

10. Cowboy Bebop-Its all the way down here at number 10, but I still love the show. The ending was a bit sad, but I've accepted it :animedepr

I've always thought about compiling my own top 10, but I never got around to it until now...

1. Sailor Moon- This has always been my favorite series. I guess much of the reason lies in the fact that nearly all the heroes in it are female, proving that girls can hold their own in a fight against evil and don't always have to rely on a guy.

2. Dragonball/Z/GT- All three of these series (I've always thought of them as one) come in a close second. I think the blend of action, fantasy and comedy create the mass appeal.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist- Ever since this series premired on Adult Swim, I've been hooked. I'm not sure whether it's the fanasy with a bit of science thrown in (I'm a science nerd :animeknow ) or the lovable characters (the bond between Ed and Al is just so heart-warming) but I just can't pull myself away.

4. Gundam Seed- Of all the Gundam series, this one is definately my favorite. I think it has something to do with all the cupples I like,
especially Kira and Lacus, they are just so cute together.
5. Wolf's Rain- The animation in this series is nothing short of sheer beauty. Plus it has music by my favorite artist, Yoko Kanno.

6. Inuyasha- (Can't beleive I almost forgot this one) Again with the fanasy, action and romance, plus a little comedy thrown in. Plus I love seshi! (there, I said it)

7. GITS: Stand Alone Complex- Though I have yet to see either of the movies, the series, I think, is spectacular. Tons of action, plus it brings up alot of political issues, which I find interesting.

8. Gad Guard- I don't usually find myself watching GRA's (Giant Robot Anime's) too often, but as with Seed, I'm always willing to make an exception for unique-ness. I really like the jazzy theme music. Plus Hajiki kind of makes me think of "Digimon", an old fav. Guess it's the goggles.

9. Zatch Bell- This is another one I can't keep away from. Again with the fanasy, plus the sheer crazy-ness of the whole thing is what keeps me watching.

10. Cowboy Bebop- I love everything about this series, the music and musical references, the animation, the unique characters. Plus one of my best friends act just like Ed, I sware :catgirl:

This is the list made from what i've seen.

1. Cowboy Bebop- Man this thing just explodes with style. Great characters, amazing artwork, and some bitchin music thrown into the mix. Overall an exceptional anime.

2. RahXephon- There's something about this anime that makes me love it. :D For some reason, i was always able to watch an episode again that i've seen before and it would still be as good as the first time I saw it.

3. Full Metal Panic!- I'm a sucker for giant robots. The action was very exciting and played out well. The characters were very diverse and each added something to the appeal of the anime. Throw in a bit of comedy and you've got Full Metal Panic!

4. Trigun- Vash rocks. Nuff said.

5. Chrono Crusade- I honestly can't say why i like this anime. The story is set around the 1920's and it includes gun-toting nuns. Yeah. i know it sounds weird.

6. Magical Shopping Arcade: Abenobashi- A very funny anime with a new setting each episode. Although short, it was still very good.

7. Inuyasha- Really bad guys, big swords, lots -o- yelling, a "sit" command, time warps, a really powerful stone, and perverts. What's not to like?

8. GetBackers- This anime had some weird yet stand-alone characters in it. One could oull knives out of his body, another could control electricity. I liked the action in this as well as the plot-line twists.

9. Wolf?s Rain- There's something about this that makes it stand out from the rest. It's really different than other anime that i have seen. It's cool in that sort-of weird way.

10. Yu Yu Hakusho- Made by the same guys that made DBZ. I enjoyed this and was brought into the storyline very easily. I really liked Kurama and Hiei just because of the way that they acted.

I would have loved to put down FLCL, The Animatrix, Metropolis, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira but FLCL is an OVA and the rest are movies, unless if you count Beyond in the Animatrix. If i counted that, it would be number 3, it was just so cool.

EDIT- I knew i forgot something...heh .hack//sign was one of my favorites. How in hell did i forget it?

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena - I saw this on the list above and it truely is a magnificent and unique anime that deserves to be on the list. Sure its not as popular as some other classic animes, but it definately had me crying at the end. For a stiff cold-hearted person like me (hah im joking) to cry takes alot. Its just so wierd and perfect.
2. Marmalade Boy - A bit soap-opera-ish but I mean that in a good way. It's a really touching and moving love story.
3. Hana Yori Dango - Another unpopular anime that I just adore. I could watch this one over and over again and never get bored of it no matter how many times I see it. Doumyoji is the best character I've ever seen portrayed and its so realistic. Great love story.
4. Cowboy Bebop - Yeah yeah you knew this was coming didn't you? Of course I'm going to add it in, especially since they have an independent woman, faye in this anime. Gotta love it.
5. Trigun - One word. Vash. He's as funny as hell. I can never stop laughing no matter how many times I see it, I dunno I guess because he's as goofy as I can get sometimes.
6. Galaxy Angel - The most pointless anime I've ever seen, basically just a bunch of skits. But the characters are adorable and despite the cheesieness, its actually, kind of funny. I'm sad to say it but yes I did laugh, alot.
7. Magic Knight Rayearth - I love this anime I could watch it all the time. I love the word Cephiro and the fact that there are so many suprises and twists into the plot. Most of the characters you simply fall in love with anyways. Lantis and Ferio. Priceless Bishounen.
8. Slayers - Can't believe I almost forgot this one, I love slayers its one of my favorite RPG Medieval animes. Lina is my idol.
9.Fushigi Yuugi - What else more is to say? Its one of the best romance stories, and you know how I'm a sucker for that by now. Tamahome and Miaka are a priceless couple and the story is unique one that I'll never get tired of.
10. Kare Kano - Unique storyline plot. Girl is evil which is a change for once muhaha. whats wrong with a woman in charge? Interesting anime only wish it were continued....

1. Inuyasha I like this show because of the story line and I love all of the perverted things Miroku does.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist Once again the plot is hard not to like. I also like the way Edward acts whenever someone calls him short.

3. Rurouni Kenshin Its hard for me not to like an anime that takes place in the Fuedal Era of Japan. Especially when it revolves around a samurai.

3. Trigun I love this show mainly because how Vash acts like when he starts crying it always cracks me up.

4. Cowboy Bebop I like this show because of the way it was made. It has a classic feel to it.

5. Zoids The original Zoids with Bit Cloud were better than the Choas Century Zoids

6. .hack//SIGN I like this show because there are things in the show that hellp you on the game or if you watch the show then you get a few of the hints that otherwise dont matter.

7. .hack//SIGN: Legend of the Twilight Bracelet I like this one because it has alot of the same characters as the games.

8. Naruto I like the manga but I havn't seen the anime version. I like most shows that have to do with ninjas.

I can't think of more than eight off the top of my head. :animeswea

Sorry, but I do not have a top 10, instead I will be submitting a top 8 ^^;;

1. Vision of Escaflowne
More than meets the eye! This series is unique in it?s own class as the ultimate fusion between shoujo and shonen. Ancient mecha action, tales of destiny, personal growth, and romance ? good stuff! And I?d also like to mention that this series features some of the best music I?ve heard in any anime.

2. Full Metal Alchemist
This series exceeded my initial expectations. At first, I wasn?t really interested in watching it, but then a friend sent me the entire series, and I turned out loving it. Brotherhood, alchemy, and action - a wonderful story that flows nicely!

3. Fushigi Yugi
If you are looking for the ultimate shoujo of all shoujo, then FS would be the series. One girl, many guys, a best friend who hates her, some people who wants her dead, hooks-ups/break-ups?yep, this series is THE soap opera of anime!

4. One Piece
Pay no attention to dubbed version that is currently on TV! One Piece is about action, fun, and adventure! I can honestly NOT think of another show that I have SO much fun watching. Luffy is simply adorable. The sea-faring orchestral music is great [which was also brutally killed in the dubbed version]. Such pirate goodness!

5. Kyou Kara Maou!
Okay. I must admit that this is probably one of the most random series I have seen, BUT it has also become one of the most random series that I?ve enjoyed watching. The second season of KKM is a must watch! This series is a fun satire of all things fantasy!

6. Fruits Basket
I gotta say that I enjoyed this story very much. This anime is funny, cute, warm, mysterious, dark, and sad. I experienced quite the rollercoaster of emotions while watching this series. Definitely a favorite!

7. Hunter x Hunter
This was another series that also exceeded my expectations. At first, I didn?t expect much from this shounen series [you know, like thoughtless action & stuff], but I was surprised to have developed a fondness for all of the main characters and their stories. Overall, to me, HxH is a good shounen series with thought!

8. Prince of Tennis
True, this series can get a bit repetitive and the moves aren?t always realistic, BUT it?s one of the few sports anime I am totally addicted to watching. One of the surprising things about this show is that I find myself liking both the characters of the main team [the protagonist] in addition to the rival members [the antagonist]. And how can I not enjoy those adorable chibi episodes!

It's only recently I started to really delve deeper into the anime world and expand my horizons so I will strain in producing a top 10 list but here it goes...

1) Cowboy Bebop - Definately without a doubt number 1. This is probably slightly biased due to the fact that this is the first anime I have seen (besides DBZ & Pokemon) that really made me develop an interest in anime. GREATT music. Funny fillers and an
interesting story. Very likable characters (balanced as well). On top of that the perfect ending.... A CLASSIC

2) Evangelion - Although as people continue to say it does have some
fundamental flaws the psychological developement of the characters is captivating! I love how (also mentioned) it develops to a much darker anime towards the end of the series also a classic.

3) Full Metal Alchemist - Amazing I haven't even seen the whole series yet
and it's already safely claimd its spot up here in the top three. I have never seen an anime ( in my limited experience) make use of every episode to further the story when it is that long!!! I have yet to see a filler in the series. The psychological/moral ideas mentioned in the series are intriguing and really hit u right here (places hand on chest.) The idea behind the story is fresh and what more can I say besides I'm hooked..

4) Full Metal Panic - Wow awesome show. The characters are very likable and their personalities tend to bring forth quite a bit of humor into the series. The animation and music are great. The story has something for everybody romance, humor, and action. I can see this easily moving up on my list as I delve deeper into the series.

5) Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - WOW for the animation! A plus is also Yoko Kanno being involed ^^. I love the psychological ideas brought up in this anime as well but this time its often more the contraversial idea of man vs machine in many different aspects. Again only about halfway through this series but its blowing my mind.

6) Rurouni Kenshin I'd have to say although the series had some great points (certain enemies more related with his past & aoshi & the whole shishio bit) it had some terrible fillers that its just... get the heck outta there. In fact, the only reason I'd put it up here is 1) my limited anime experience and 2) How AMAZING the OVA Trust & Betrayal is. WOW now taht is a classic.

7) Trigun - Alright Nicholas D. Wolfwood has the most bad*** weapon conceived. The series has humor some of it doesnt quite strike me though... It still manages a spot due to Wolfwood's spot as one of my favorite anime characters of all time aside from that in my eyes its good and you should see it by all means but its not amazing...

8) Chrono Crusades - Again I've yet to complete the series but for some reason I love it. The idea demon fighting aside is very original/cool. I mean come on a nun running around with a gun shooting up demons is that cool or what? I am once again out of the kindness of my heart offering this anime a spot due to its ability to hook me =D!

9) Ninja Scrolls - Although I didn't find it to be exceptional overall some particular episodes really had me going. I watched the dvds and the first dvd I was uninterested until the last episode which sorta raised my brow due to my sympathy towards to one character a later episode really made me sympathize for them. Then the second dvd really picked it up and got me drawn in through the 3rd I was hooked. Some episodes were standouts but the series as a whole was only pretty good in my eyes but those standouts earned it this spot as far as I'm concerned.

10)Wolfs Rain - Original, nice animation, Yoko Kanno ^^, Interesting story. Stress the originality and that's why it got a place up here I love it.

1) Dragonball Z
This was the first anime I seen. I first watched it when Vegeta was fighting Recoome. Instantly I became a fan due to the great artwork and the shear fighting (in the beginning sagas). It amazed me what they could do in a cartoon. And as soon as I learned more about Vegeta, he instantly became my favorite.

2) Fullmetal Alchemist
This would have been in #1, but it has to come in second. I love the humor (DON'T CALL ME SHORT) and the family dynamics between Ed and Al. It mixes scifi, humor, horror, and action all in one. Mix in a 11 year old boys soul in armor with an older (yet shorter) brother with an arm and leg of metal and you got one kick arse anime!

3) Zatch Bell
Even though I have only seen the first 2 episodes, I can tell this anime is going to be a fan fave of a lot of people. I like the animation and the humor, but the only let down is the storyline: Young, friendless kid becomes a hero through some strange person he hates, but befriends as the series goes on. Other than that, it is a fun show.

4) Spirited Away (Movie)
I hope I can nominate movies...I can't remember the entire thing, but when I first watched it, I instantly fell in love with it. The animation is great, the storyline is pretty good, and I like the comedy parts in it. The scifi part of it also caught my attention as well.

5) Inuyasha
This anime is funny. The first few episodes were kinda sluggish and overcrowded with getting a lot of the info in to understand the history behind Inuyasha and Kikyo, but afterwards, it got better. I like the humor, action, and the continuous sexual actions towards Sango and Kagome from Miroku...poor, poor Miroku...

I don't have another 5, but when I do, I'll place them here.

Haha, I've really not watched a whole lot of anime, so my list is somewhat generic, but from what I have seen, these would be my favorites:

1. Last Exile- Quite honestly, the most amazing anime I?ve ever seen. The visuals! Absolutely gorgeous, and fitting for the setting of the show, way up in the clouds. On top of that, the music is beautiful and the characters memorable, with a steady plotline to match. I could watch it over and over again (and I do ^_^)
2. Azumanga Daioh- Like chicken soup or chocolate cake, nothing?s lifts your mood like watching Azumanga. That?s why it?s #2?each character is funny in a different way; it?s quite a nice little series about nothing special. Just a group of friends living life in all its hilarity. I guess that?s why I like it so much!
3. Fruits Basket- Okay. There was no way Furuba was not gonna be in the top 3. It?s sweet, funny, and even dramatic without being sickeningly so. The characters are all lovable, and I must say, I love the style in which they?re drawn. The show is just right, all around.
4. Full Metal Alchemist- Although I haven?t finished it, FMA was a winner (in my eyes) from episode one. Ed and Al are wonderful to begin with, but their interactions with each other and the other characters is what really shines I think. And the plot- it?s funny and sad in all the right moments, moving you to laughter or tears quite easily. Good stuff.
5. Lunar Legend Tsukihime- Again, I still have 4 episodes to go, but Tsukihime is great so far. Although it moves a little slow, the atmosphere is haunting enough and the mystery deep enough to keep your attention through it all. And, personally, I think Arcueid is just the coolest character ^_^
6. Cowboy Bebop- Haha, CB is down further simply because I figured it wouldn?t need my help to make the top 50 list?Seriously though, it?s a classic, there?s no denying that. The jazz theme and the futuristic setting?what can I say? It?s just a wonderful show.
7. Ghost in the Shell: SAC- Animation, music, mind games and mysteries?what more do you need in an anime? It?s beautiful to watch- every episode- from beginning to end, and always makes you think. And with Yoko Kanno added to the mix, well, when has she not made an anime even better?
8. Trigun- Ah, my very first ?grown up? anime- meaning not Pokemon. Honestly, all I can say is: Vash the Stampede. He can hold the show all by himself! Let?s face it, the music is nothing special, and the animation is okay, but it?s Vash and his struggle that makes this show list-worthy. That?s why I love it anyway.
9. Yu Yu Hakusho- For all that people criticize the animation, YYH is a good show. Unlike a lot of anime in the same genre, it?s not trite and boring, and the characters can actually seem heroic without being overbearing. It?s still your classic ?good guys vs. bad guys? scenario, but that, I think, is part of the appeal.
10. Gundam SEED- It?s fun to watch, and despite myself, I?ve come to really like the characters?well, except for Flay, because she?s a self-centered twit, but everyone else I like for some reason or another. It?s your typical Gundam series plotline, but done better, in my opinion.

1.Inuyasha-I love this show the adventure, the ending music, the girls, and all the chareters I just wish they hurry up and kill Naraku already!DAMN!!. ( oh I LOVE KIKYO!!!)

2.Full Metal Alchemist-This is sweet I would say that this is really 1st place but I like demons but the story is really deep, and awsome, and I love the use of alchemy that each chareter has especialy Scar.

3.Cowboy Bebop-This is the shiznit evan thought I don't like rap I had to say it I love Ed she is soo cool, also everybody love Spike, and mostly Fayt-Fayt ohh yeah.

4.Gad Guard-It's a little simular to Gundam but urban, just livin life, and these robots called Teckos that's sweet.

5.FLCL-Don't care if's an OVA this kicks alot of but to damn wacky, and crazy but either way Magical Shoppin Arcade Abenobashi it's the same as FLCL but a little diffrent.

6.Evangaleion-Too crazy the unit's on it is nice and alot of death for everybody in it.

7.Read or Die- Very different, very strange cool.

8.Ruroni Kenshin-Samuri's are sweet, I like old style japan Hajime Satio is the sweetest out of them all.

9.Yu Yu Hakusho-I love all the episodes, and chareters but I really did'nt like the demon tunnel saga boring (yawn).

10..Hack/Sign-Legend of Twilight-Really creative, all freaky the two chareters I love is Shugo, and Subaru.
