JJ
Kyle Messigner sat on the bus. His long brown hair was in his face, but he didn?t mind, because he was catching up on his sleep. With his headphones in, a loud rock song blaring, Kyle was dead to the world. He did however reflect on the morning, briefly, if only to give himself something to do besides sleep. He had missed his mother this morning, who usually drove him to school. Kyle had gone to bed with his headphones in, so he missed his alarm, and his mother?s interval yelling. She finally had to shake him awake and leave. Kyle sluggishly got out of bed and glanced at the clock. It was exactly seven and school started at eight thirty, although he preferred to be there early, in case something big happened. Nothing ever did, but it never hurt to be prepared, right? Kyle got himself dressed, and brushed his hair out, deciding to not to put it into a ponytail today, him being as tired and lazy as he was. He grabbed some breakfast and was out the door by seven thirty. He was on the bus by seven forty-five, and he should have gotten to school by eight fifteen. Instead, he missed his stop, and didn?t realize it until eight-thirty. He cursed, and got off at the next stop. He was really pissed, because the bus had moved into the suburbs, and now he was going to have to wait on another bus, which was a thirty-minute wait. He cursed again, and walked across the street. He sat down on the bench, and hit ?Play? on his iRiver. A Perfect Circle?s ?Pet? began, and Kyle leaned back on the glass panel of the wait area and mouthed the words. Don?t fret precious, I?m here, Step away from the window, And go back to sleep. As the song continued, Kyle began to think about what he had done the day before. It had been a regular day at school, and the bus ride home had been normal too. It was the sparse time he spent checking his email that still lingered in his memory. When he logged in, he only had two emails, and when he went to check, only one of them was worth reading. He opened it and read, Mr. Messigner, I hope you didn?t delete the other email in your inbox. If you did, be prepared for the consequences. Mr. Go Kyle chuckled to himself. What kind of loser would think that Kyle would actually be scared of them? Kyle decided to check out what kind of spam they wanted him to see. He clicked on the message, and laughed as the page loaded. It showed kids running around a town, picking up things along the way. Kyle scrolled down, and saw that it was indeed an advertisement. It said, Do you want adventure? Do you have the urge to see the world? Then, we have the perfect job for you. Email us back that you?re interested. Then, there was some boring text that Kyle skipped over, until he got the end. If you don?t respond to this, or delete it, we will find you, and you won?t like the results. Kyle laughed, and deleted it from his deleted items. He then shut down the computer and went outside, waving to his friend Maria. The two ended up going to the movies together and didn?t get home ?till late. Stay with me, Safe and Ignorant Just, stay with me And I will protect you from the other ones Evil Ones, go back to sleep. The song ended and Kyle looked up. The bus was coming down the hill, and his song had ended. It had only seemed like a couple of minutes, but Kyle guessed time flew when you thought about stuff. He boarded the bus, and decided to not fall asleep this time, the time already being nine. He listened to about three songs, and then hit the next stop button. He got off the bus, and jogged to the school, only ending up forty-five minutes late. He was lucky, and didn?t have to explain anything to anyone, because there was a sub in his first two classes. All he did was sit down, and pretend like he had been there. As class went on, he began to wonder about Maria. He didn?t have a crush on her or anything, but he felt like she wasn?t always there. She had conquered cancer at an early age, and had been sickly ever since. Her Hispanic background never showed through her pale complexion. It made Kyle somewhat sad, because even with her paleness, she was still one of the most beautiful girls he knew. Most guys didn?t like her, but Maria never let that discourage her. As lunchtime rolled around, Kyle began to think about what he was going to do over the weekend. He had seen all the new movies in the theaters, and rain was predicted for the weekend, so it was looking like another boring weekend at home. Kyle suddenly snapped out of his thinking as the bell rung. He stood up and walked through the door. He and Maria were supposed to meet in the courtyard of the school. As he jogged to the courtyard, he scanned the crowd. He spotted a couple of his other friends, but they were all tied up in relationships, so they didn?t have much time for idle chatter. He quickly dodged students and made his way down towards the front of the school. After what seemed like an eternity plus a day, he swam through the waves of students, and arrived outside. He quickly scanned the commons area for Maria, but didn?t see her, so he walked to their usual spot near the fountain. Not a lot student knew about the fountain, because it was situated in between two big hedges. It was a horrible design of angels embracing, but it was a good place to get away from it all. When Kyle turned the corner and didn?t see Maria, he began to get worried. He pulled out his cell phone, and dialed her number. The voice on the other line confirmed his fears. This number has been disconnected, please hang up and try again. Kyle ran back the school, and ran into Maria?s classroom. The teacher, Mr. Jilk, sat grading papers. Kyle walked over to his desk. ?Mr. Jilk, was Maria Heldigo here today?? he said, panting. ?No, I?m sorry, she was absent today.? He said, not glancing at Kyle. Kyle walked out of the room frustrated and confused. He walked to the office and took a sick slip. If he was going to figure out what was going on, he had to leave the school. He ran back to his classroom and found the sub reading a book. Kyle walked up, and in his sickest voice said ?I just finished throwing up. Can you sign this sheet so I can go home please?? The sub looked questionably at Kyle, and Kyle made gagging noises and inflated his cheeks with air. He ran out of the classroom and stopped outside the door, coming around so the teacher couldn?t see him. He let out the air, and chuckled to himself. When he walked in about two or three minutes from now, the form would be ready for him to blow this popsicle stand. He popped in his headphones, and listened to a song, then put on his sick face again. He opened the door to the classroom, and stumbled in. Low and behold, there stood the sub with the paper in hand, and concerned look on his face. ?Are you going to be OK getting home?? he asked, handing the note to Kyle. ?Yes, I think so.? Kyle said, slowly gathering up his things. ?Be careful, OK?? the teacher said, sitting back down at the desk. ?Yes sir.? Kyle said, walking through the door. Kyle looked at his watch, and realized that the bus he wanted to catch left in five minutes. He quickly bolted through the hallways and down the staircase, being yelled at by more than one teacher as he flew. He got outside with three minutes to spare, and he didn?t let up on his speed, knocking over more than one student. He turned when he hit the street and put everything into his last hundred feet sprint, reaching the bus stop just as the bus pulled up. He climbed on board, totally out of breathe, and with a burning sensation in his legs. He sat down in the first available seat and pulled out his iRiver. He stuck his headphones in and tried to catch his breath. He hit play, and turned the volume down, so he could hear the announcement of the next stop. He settled down in the seat and began to relax, letting the bumpiness of the ride sooth his burning legs. He almost fell asleep, but the bumpiness of the ride, with the loud annoying announcements, made it impossible for Kyle to sleep. After about thirty minutes or so, he heard his stop, so he hit the stop button and stood up. His legs hurt for a second, but it subsided when he jumped down the steps and onto the pavement. He walked the block and a half to his house and opened the door. The house was empty and quiet, and Kyle just dropped all his stuff on the couch in the living room. He then left the house again, and locked it behind him. He then walked across the street to Maria?s house. Her mother and father both worked at the hospital in town as doctors, so Maria had the house to herself a lot. He knocked on the door, and then rang the doorbell, hoping she was there. After about five minutes, Kyle decided to enter the house. He pushed at the door, and was surprised to find it unlocked. He pushed it open, and was greeted with a horrendous sight. The entire house was trashed, and there was blood everywhere. Anything that could break, and make more than a couple of pieces covered the floor, making every step crunch under Kyle. He walked towards the living room, and found Mrs. Heldigo on the couch, a knife sticking out of her chest. There was blood all over the white couch, staining it a horrid pink color. Kyle clutched at his stomach, and ran for the bathroom, where he threw up everything he had eaten today. After he felt like his stomach was settled, he explored the rest of the house, finding only Mr. Heldigo?s body, hanging by an electric cord in the stairwell. As Kyle went to leave, he noticed a note on the door?s backside. He peeled it off, and opened the envelope it was in. It read See, this is what you get when you don?t do what you?re told. If you?re not careful, your house?ll be next. Mr. Go Kyle suddenly burst out from the house at a run, his legs burning like no one?s business. He suddenly fell over in the street, his legs giving out on him. He stood up, and shakily walked back to his house, where he locked every lock. He called the police, reported the crime, then sat down in his den, waiting for them to come. After thirty minutes, Kyle looked out, and saw the police had come and gone. He cursed, and walked out to survey the damage. There was police tape around the entire house, not one entrance not declaring, ?DO NOT ENTER!?. Kyle didn?t walk around the entire house, instead he just walked by it on his way to the bus stop. He had to go and talk to his mother about this. He sat down at the bus stop and looked at his watch. ?Another thirty-minute wait!? he said aloud, not caring if anyone heard. He was surprised when the bus that he was supposed to waiting on chugged down the street at a sluggish pace. It stopped and the door closest to the driver opened. Kyle climbed on and sat down, and then he put in his headphones and turned it up. It was supposed to be a long ride. He closed his eyes, and let the sounds of Evanescence and the bumping of the bus drift him to sleep. He was suddenly and rudely, awakened by a rough voice that was also poking at his side. He took out his headphones, and turned to the voice, ready to tell them off, when a 9mm Beretta came out of nowhere and plopped right in front of Kyle?s eyes. ?Make a false move, and I?ll kill you.? The voice said, tightening its grip on the gun. Kyle gulped. Mr. Go had caught up with him. . If someone could run a fine toothed comb through this piece, and find everything that wasn't working, I would be more than willing to give them a couple of favors. ^_~ PS: I hope everyone enjoys this, because I might have a surprise following the next chapter.
