The Drizzle
Okay, lets get this over with As Im guessing most of you know, FOX is bringing back the cult sensation Family With some all new seasons and although im REALLY glad that they are putting Family Guy back on the air, im also kinda of, well, worried. See before, the creator of the infamous comedy cartoon, Seth McFarlane, thought he was going to get cancelled all of the time and basically did whatever he wanted. That made everything hilarious because he was having fun and made more racy and controversial jokes. Now he has an audience to please and he has to think of what they want and i think that will definitely take something away from the show... I just hope it isnt like american dad was...i mean that show had its moments but it didnt seem to get to me like Family Guy did. Im still very hopeful for the new seasons, and thats just my opinion, any other thoughts?
Semjaza
I've said this before, but I think American Dad simply existed because Family Guy was going away and McFarlane new it. Usually when a show ends, that's it. American Dad was in the works before Fox was planning on bringing Family Guy back. I think that's why they're so similar... they weren't meant to be aired together. I don't think anything is going to change in terms of Family Guy. It will likely be different because of how long its been since there's even been a new episode, but I don't think it will be different because McFarlane wants to appease some sort of new crowd or that he'll feel more "comfortable". That doesn't even really make sense in theory, honestly. The show is successful because of what it was, why would he feel any need to change anything or be less racy? He's not the only writer on the show and I think episode quality fluctuates even in the three seasons that are out already... There's too many factors. Besides, Fox only ordered so many episodes. There's always a chance they'll cancel it again (or even during) that run if for some reason it doesn't get a sizable viewership... which is possible considering how often Fox moves stuff around. I don't think he'd feel any more comfortable than he did before, really.
Gavin
Ah well that's great news, I've always been a huge fan of Family Guy and found it a far, far funnier show than The Simpsons. I would say that old fans will return to the show with aplomb and maybe it'll attract some new fans this time around since Futurama has also been ended prematurely. I agree with Tony when he says that things probably won't change, McFarlane knows that by changing things in the show he risks losing returning fans. There's also the fact that even if he does change things in order to attract a new audience he may fail entirely to attract them and will have in essence shot himself in the foot. As per FOX ordering only a certain amount of episodes, you'd think the rate at which the quality of The Simpson's has been declining [their basically relying on guest celebrities for ratings for new episodes] they'd be wary about cancelling a show that has the potential to go on and be exceptionally funny.

This is the network that (9 out of 10 times) takes style over substance. Arrested Development is one of their most critically acclaimed, Emmy award winning shows, and they almost considered cancelling it this season. So I'm afraid that I really have no knowledge of their broadcasting quirks, however if you say that they have been willing to take style over substance then it does cast a shadow over the future of Family Guy. I have to admit though that it would take a seriously irrational person to cancel a show like Family Guy when it had such a huge fan base across the world. Kamuro
I love Family Guy, and it would be a shame to see it any different then it was originally, but I don't believe it will be, could you really see a conventional and politically correct family guy? its the exact opposite of the show, no one would watch it if it was different
Guest spawn
ahh yes, Family Guy......it was truly a brilliant show, but I would hate to see its legacy tarnished. most shows that are brought back usually dont succeed. Every show has its time, and Family Guy's time is done. the people at fox are just trying to make more money. Im not saying that it will definitely fail, perhaps it may be just as good as it used to be. im just saying that is unlikely. but we can have faith. James
I'm pretty interested in this new series, as I've really been getting into the existing episodes. The more I watch the series, the more I enjoy it. I am not sure if I'd put Family Guy above Simpsons - that is, if you exclude the awful newer seasons. Family Guy has a great sense of wit, a good combination of subtlety and obvious slapstick humor...but the best of The Simpsons totally trounces it, as far as I'm concerned. Then again, I can think of few TV series that really hold a candle to the best of what The Simpsons had to offer. Still, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Family Guy. I found it to be surprisingly inventive and fresh in various ways, even though the quality does tend to vary from episode to episode.

Family Guy had huge success only a few years ago, and the reason that they are bringing it back is because of the HUGE sale success of the Family Guy DVDs. I trust Seth MacFarlane to make the same old family Guy that we have all come to know and love. As for Simpsons, i completely agree with James, that there really isn't much that can measure up to The Simpson's better episodes.

Lord Dante
All of what you say sounds really interesting, but one thing stands out in my mind. and that's how long it will take, i don't reckon that i'll see this untill years after the americans. Syk3
I just saw the new Family Guy (okay, it may have been a few hours ago, sue me..), and watched it again since I had taped it. Wow. Pardon my French, but.. omg lik it wuz SO AEWSOME!1!1!1!!1! All of my fears about changes from the last time it was shown have been put to rest. Of course, I am a little biased since I would put Family Guy as my favorite American cartoon of all time, and recently watched through my DVDs during the past few weeks, but I would say that not only did it reach my expectations, but it exceeded them. If you loved Family Guy already, you will not be disapointed. The jokes were plentiful and halarious, which is true to its past and is great for us.
Crucify this! XD!!!
I won't go into what it was all about just now, but maybe someone else would be willing to. lol One thing, though. During a commercial, they had this ad that said, "New Family Guy, buy it today!" Are the DVDs already out?! O_o;
Manic Webb
Seth MacFarlane's still got it. ;) It's sad how many shows FOX has cancelled prematurely over the past few years. And I do believe that he only named shows from the past few years. That episode was simply beautiful. I knew they wouldn't let us down. The Drizzle
^(Syk3) I'm sure they werent, but I don't remember most of the commercials so Im not really sure what you are talking about. On to more important matters, the new episode: as the same as the other two people, it was pretty freakin sweet. There was one thing though that I hope doesnt happen in the future. They used like every character that only appeared in like two episodes i.e. the evil monkey, the old perverted dude, the deaf greased guy, and others. As of yet that was my only complaint and Im sure it wont happen frequently. Did anyone else see American Dad? I only saw like half of it but from what I saw I liked it. It is a very political cartoon and is very crude. And oh so hilarious. I also heard a promo for it on the radio and I dont know if it was in the episode, but it was one of the funniest things ever.
Kamuro
Agreed, the show was just as good as always. Like I said before, I couldn't see it changing even a little, let alone a complete turn in show idea. American Dad is well, below par I think. But Family Guy has still got it.

The extras most likely won't appear in all of the episodes, though I do remember the greased up deaf guy saying, "It's good to be back, America. See ya'll next week!" Whether he meant himself or the show in general, we'll soon find out. lol

PWNED
I have doubts about this season coming to Australia but it will be, and I quote Peter Griffin, Freakin Sweet. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I heard that Family Guy was created just for fun by good old Seth. I've heard it has lived up to its reputation so good on it. Xyandar
Did anyone catch the new episode last night??? It was hilarious!!! It wasn't as funny as the season premiere but it was still extremely funny nonetheless. I loved the part where Stewie farted and then is right eye turned beat red and he shouted "Ahhh I popped a damn blood vessel ahhh!!" I laughed so hard at that. I went to my friends to watch it because its our usual routine. We are all into Family Guy majorly so we made a plan to meet at my friends place every Sunday at 9 pm lol. So yeah did anyone else catch the episode?
Syk3
Yeah, I saw the episode last night, too. While I thought it was funny because I'm a huge fan of Family Guy, I felt that a lot of the jokes went through a little too quickly as if they were trying too hard to get out laughs at a fast pace and finish the show on time. In fact, they aparently didn't even have time for the opening theme song, haha. I agree that the premiere was superior to this one, but let's face it: the first one was pretty damn awesome, lol. At some parts I was wondering if they went a little too far (like
Peter asking for the teacher's picture to paste to the back of Louis' head
, and
him transforming into a tampon and waiting in the girl's purse
), but I don't really care. lol I actually think that this episode might have pushed me over the edge for choosing Stewie as my absolute favorite character. Until now, I think the producers did a good job of getting you to like just about all of them the same. I've also noticed that in the past two episodes, we really haven't seen much of the neighbors, like Quagmire, Joe, or Cleaveland. But they weren't in every episode in the past, either, so I can't expect more than they've given us thus far, heh. EDIT: LOL, I said tampoon. Oh, God, did I cringe. >_< I giggled like mad at the Wonder Twins reference, and then I was like, "No. Oh, no. He did not...he did. Wow." Or something to that effect. It was funny, but...wow. Ew.
