Sir Auron
We have all had our tough spots in games that we thought we would never beat, but then the next thing you know, we beat it. So what was yours? For me is complete all 50 Missions in Guilty Gear xx. It was pretty tough. and beating Mike Tyson in Punch-Out!! And lastly finishing Alundra, those puzzles and jumping are frustratingly hair-trigger!
Kamuro
ahh auron, you always come up with the best posts lol, although it wasn't extremely hard, an enormous accomplisment for me was the complete and total completion of Suikoden III, when I first got the game I played through, for 30 hours or so, but I realizewd I was missing some characters, items, etc., so I went through again, and got EVERYTHING, all 108 characters, the medal sets, old books, seeds, everything, even played through the bonus chapter with Luc and Koroku's chapter, the end was averagely hard, but it was still a big accomplishment
2010DigitalBoy
There are lots of times, particularly in Ratchet and Clank, where I have had these situations. Sometimes I get stuck so bad I have to restart the whole game (Final Fantasy X). The biggest one was the final boss in Sly Cooper. If you actually manage to beat this boss, it only takes 2 minutes tops, but I ended up playing for around 30 minutes trying to beat the friggin guy. I got so frustrated I thought I would explode. Bloodseeker
Fully upgrading Tidus' legendary weapon is FFX. That chocobo race was easily the most frustrating videogame experience that I've ever had. And its the reason why won't try to collect everything in that game again. NinjaJedi007
beating every single challenge in Perfect Dark was quite a satisfying experience. if youve played it then you know how ridiculously hard some of those can be. i remember the days of crowding around the tv yelling, screaming, and being frustrated by that game. it took an extremely long time for a task such as this to be accomplished and we were all very proud of ourselves that day. I tried and tried and never managed to win that race to get the weapon upgrades. I was going to say personally that dodging 100 lightning bolt blasts in a row on the Thunder Plains was the most evil thing I ever did. I think that they were jusy trying to make the most impossible challenges in FFX as extras so that the RPG freaks couldn't get 100% completion very easily. Why did I go so far as to even do that sort of thing I ask myself now?
2010DigitalBoy
The hardest game of all time has to be Pokemon Channel. It was so freikin hard to find the 5th episode of the Pichu Bros. Not to mention all that money searching. It took me 43 hours to beat this game, and another 20 to get all the extra crap. Brilliant game. Now THAT was an accomplishment. NinjaJedi007
^ doding the lightning bolts wasnt so hard difficult as it was annoying. all you need is a lot of patience and thats just about it. i really did hate getting that. i honestly dont know what i was thinking when i completed that. the one i hated the most was getting Kimahri's celestial item. that d*mn butterfly mission was ridiculous! i havent and probably never will get it either. Zephyr
The hardest task? That's a good question. I can't think of an overall hardest task, so I will stick with a more recent, and very difficult task. Right now all I can think of is beating chapter 6.5 in [Gundam] Battle Assault 3. Just imagine being confined in a tight area, against two enemies. Not hard enough? Okay, add on a minute-and-a-half time limit, a Gundam that is best for close up fighting (maybe medium range), and pit him against an enemy that likes to get in your face while his buddy shoots you from long range. It took me about three days of button-mashing, losing, and swearing to finally find a successful fighting style to beat them within the time limit. (And running out of time just before landing the winning shot really pissed me off)
James
I think the toughest task I've faced in recent memory would be the International A and B licenses in Gran Turismo 3. For the record, I hate license tests in those games. They do help improve my driving, though. But still, they can be insanely tough, because they require such specific attention from the player. Other than that, I'm not sure. When I was little, my toughest gaming challenge was probably World 8 in Super Mario Bros. I think it's 8-3 that I hated the most - you know, the level with all the Hammer Bros. on it. Very difficult indeed. You have to be really careful with all of your jumps, especially when you land on the pipes that sit between each major section.

I didn't find dodging the lightning bolts all that hard -- it only took me two tries to get all 200 in a row. Though it was pretty annoying to get to 180 or so on my first attempt and then get hit. Your best friend when dodging lightning bolts is a weapon/armor that blocks random battles. Otherwise you'll find yourself getting hit just before/after a fight, before you can react to dodge. It becomes so much easier when you don't have to worry about that, not to mention making it take less time. The Chocobo race was more annoying, but still not all that bad, I thought. It's really just a matter of 1) getting used to the crappy control, 2) finding the right path to take along the course, and 3) learning how to dodge those stupid birds. Once I got those three things down, it wasn't very hard. The butterfly thing was indeed the worst for me. Mainly because the game gives you a side view, rather than an overhead view, so you can't actually see where the butterflies are on the path. Which makes it so you basically just have to use trial and error to find out where along the path to run, so as to collect the blue and avoid the red ones, and then go from memory. Which is an absolute pain in the butt when you're required to do some pretty precise maneuvering in order to slip between two red butterflies. The only things I didn't do in FFX was get Wakka's other Overdrives, and get his celestial weapon fully powered up, simply because I find Blitzball to be horribly boring. Sure, I would've been willing to play a good number of games to get them, but from what I read it can take upwards of 100. Yeah, I can be pretty insane about doing absolutely everything in games. ... But not that insane. Yeesh. But enough about FFX. Personally, the hardest and most satisfying challenge I've ever accomplished would probably be beating Trinexx, the boss of Level 7: Turtle Rock in Zelda: A Link to the Past with as few hearts, items, and upgrades as possible. I don't think I'll ever forget that fight. Now, before playing through on that minimalist game, none of LTTP's bosses gave me any trouble, seeing as how I'd played the game so dang much. I knew the absolute best strategies for taking each one down. ... Or so I thought. But I found that being able to take no more than four hits in a boss fight not only hones your skills until you're better than you ever thought you'd be, but it also makes you get very creative in coming up with strategies. I found myself resorting to things I hadn't ever thought of trying before -- and they worked. Finally triumphing over Trinixx, the game's second hardest boss, was more satisfying than any other gaming challenge I've passed. I'm sad to say I still haven't yet managed to complete that minimalist game, however. Ganon remains as the one obstacle between me and the glory of seeing "The End" of my insane challenge. Whenever I do muster the patience to sit down and perfect my strategy and execution, however, the accomplishment will replace the Trinexx fight in claiming this honor. Compared to Ganon, everything else in the game seems like a breeze.
Doc
I agree with James on GT3. The most dificult thing I've accomplished was the IA licenses. I'm still trying to get the Superl license. That has to be one of the only things that requires PERFECT and procise control of all vehicles. It has taken me at least 5 hours of try and fail on the Super, and I've only got 5 races with bronze. I haven't really had to much trouble with other games. I tend to stay way from the Final Fantasy and the Suikoden esk games. I just never have the time needed to play those. Plus, I've never gotten into Final Fantasy because of the turn based fights. _-_ They just take to long. That's why Kingdom Hearts is probably my favorite RPG.
Gavin
I'd definitely have to concur about getting Tidus' Ultimate Weapon fully upgraded, that Chocobo racing had me tearing my hair out with frustration trying to complete it, although with a stroke of luck on about the 25th time I got it, at least I think it was the 25th time. It only got worse when a friend of mine informed me that he had beaten it with a 00:00 timing without realising it was a side-quest and in only two goes, I was really sick with anger after that. Other than Final Fantasy X, I found getting all Gold Medals on missions in Worms 3D to be a bit of a pain in the behind, most of the time it's a mixture of skill and luck, but sometimes it can be just all luck. The fun was always in the multiplayer part of the game, and sometimes it felt that the missions [especially trying to the all Golds] had something taken away from them in that regard. If I were to wind back the clock to back when myself and my brother spent most of our free time playing the Sega Megadrive, the hardest game task we completed would definitely be completing Streets of Rage in under 5 hours. It was a great game and one of the first, if not the first co-operative game we'd played, actually scratch that, the first was Mario Bros. 3 [I think] on the NES. Still Streets of Rage. in under five hours was no easy task, health had to be conserved religiously and often it lead to severe bouts of telly aggression. Shinmaru
The hardest thing that I've done is slog my way through every tedious item-collecting quest that you need to do to beat Donkey Kong 64. Not that any of it was exceptionally difficult, but a lot of it was completely boring. Thank god for the awesome final boss fight at the end of the game, or there would be absolutely no real reason to play DK64, unless you're masochistic or something. I'd dodge ten, duck beneath a tower for a few seconds and count "one," then repeat until I got to twenty. (20 sets of 10 being 200 total.) I kept going after getting all 200, but quickly stopped caring and got sloppy. My record is something like 218 I think. I can see how it would be a lot more nerve wracking if you didn't keep count, though. Never knowing how many more you need would be horrible. :animestun
Baron Samedi
I honestly could not remember the hardest, so I'll just list a few games that really got my heart pounding and hands shaking. Prisoner of War quite literally has you jumping. The fear of getting caught by the guards is really intense. I haven't played the game in ages, but it was incredibly difficult in some areas. Crash Team Racing: Was it that one where there was Nitrous Oxide? He was an incredibly difficult last race, and whoever you raced on a Cloud Highway was a close second. I think it was Tiny. Now that I think of it, it's difficult to recall tough gaming moments. I'm not as hardcore as some of you here ;) But you know you've done something special when your hands shake as you set down the controller, or let go of the mouse.
QuincyArcher
The Ursa Major level in Katamari Damacy, getting my katamari up to a decent size without rolling over a teddy bear or something was a pain. Guest Hybrid/
Well getting past Yunalesca on Final Fantasy X was prrrreeeeeetttttyyyyyyy tough. Oh lets not forget Hybrid Heaven. Erika
Hmm....yeah I'd have to agree with Baron on the whole hardcore deal. I'm just too impatient to take any crazy challenges. The hardest task that I've ever accomplished...hmm...I need to seperate it from a most frusterating gaming moment: I think it'd have to be passing the Test of Courage in Star Fox Adventures (I did it in the 10th try), and there's a lot of sh** that was hard to do in Rare's past games but I managed to do. :-p So yeah, I'll cram em all into one category.
Gavin
Actually I've just watched my brother playing Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and going through that last level you have to play through to
unlock Isildur
. I've done it before but I just now remember how big a pain in the arse it is, about twelve levels of nothing but slicing the heck out of stuff without getting hit yourself. It took me, if memory serves about nine goes to go through it and unlock him, and he's absolutely crap, he's exactly the same as Aragorn and there was no point in doing it really. NinjaJedi007
This has yet to happen but beating Ikaruga will be the ultimate experience. If you've never heard or played it, the game is an up-scrolling spaceship shooter. Yes thats right, there is an insane amount of crap on the screen at all times and switching shields at the right time is so freakin hard. The furthest I've ever seen the game was level 3. Who knows if I'll see anything more.

The lightning bolts in FFX are really frustrating, with that I must agree! When I got hit after 197 dodges, I was not best impressed! At the moment, the most irritating part of a game are the "secret" levels in Mario Sunshine. Goddam, I hate those things with a passion! They're enough to make me jump for joy when I do eventually pass one, and almost cry when I lose all my lives trying . . .
