This is like someone re-creating Dexter's Lab...which shall never happen, because if it does, I will personally go to the idiot who wants to and beat him up.[/i']
It already happened. After the original series aired its final episode in 1998 and the movie "Ego Trip" in 1999, the show was supposed to be canceled from production. Genndy wanted to clear his slate to start work on Samurai Jack and Craig was being streatched thin between Dexter and PPG, so they had good reason to end the show on a high note. Then in 2001, Chris Savigno, a Ren and Stimpy dropout who had been doing the Dexter comic books, decided to make a new season without Genndy or Craig. The results were extremely mediocre, and the Savigno version only lasted for 2 years. Luckily Genndy was able to direct the Dexter short that premiered with The Powerpuff Girls Movie, and it was one of the best of the series.

And PPG was essentially brought back from the dead a while back. After The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Craig was basically fed up with Warner Bros. treating his sharp action-comedy as little girls merchandise fodder and moved on to the Samurai Jack comedic episodes and Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends. Chris Savigno took over PPG from 2003 to 2004. The results were better than his Dexter work, but still felt rather bland. Since Craig McCracken is actually working on PPGZ to an extent, I actually expect it to better than PPG's last 2 seasons.

I want CN to bring back "Samurai Jack" Dammit! That show was just as good as "Dexster's Labratory." My freinds and I HATE PPG. I'd like to see them go up against Freeza, Cell, Majin Buu, Kid Buu, or Omega Shenron. Or Aku. PPGZ looks stupid. Really stupid. Even more so than those new episodes of "Dexster's Lab" that were'nt so great.

Me too! Samurai Jack was the most awesome kids show of all time (slightly behind Futurama, The Simpsons, Paranoia Agent, Cowboy Bebop, and Fullmetal Alchemist on the list of greatest shows period)! It won 3 freakin' Emmies for cryin' out loud and yet Cartoon Network doesn't even give the show a single damn timeslot!

Luckily, I hear that Tartakovsky is trying to "conceal secret plans". This might mean that we'll get a Samurai Jack movie (which would ROCK)!

Genny has been working with Lucasfilm the last couple years making "Star Wars: Clone Wars." I saw both parts, and I loved it. I'm looking forward to seeing what General Greivous, and the other Jedi look like in live action. I read an artical about a "Samurai Jack" movie in an issue of Entertainment Weekly, a while back. That was about three or four years ago. I remember seeing "Dexster's Labortory" action figures in Toys R Us when I worked there. Recently they had "Samurai Jack" figures. Cool. I hope that we'll be seeing "Samurai Jack" again soon. In the meantime, the second season is coming to DVD.

Is it just me or does this show seem a bit more childish than the American version?

Yes, the Powerpuff Girls appealed to children in the United States, but I felt that it had deeper meaning. It was able to spoof and reference things that children would never understand...

Ah well, what can a 10 second shot tell me?
Apparently the origin story is also somewhat different--which I'm more dubious about, but it's probably a wise decision for the Japanese writers to not totally imitate the original.
The origin of the Powerpuff Girls was probably one of my favourite parts of the original series: it was so ridiculous, it somehow gained merit. I was actually reminded of the elusive composition of Coke, the first time I heard it, heh.

From the clip, I predict that the satirical charm the original series had will be either downplayed or modified to suit a Japanese audience. Probably both.

Does any one know if Japan is familiar with the original Powerpuff Girls?

The original Powerpuff Girls has aired in Japan--dubbed in Japanese, of course--and (I believe) achieved a fair amount of popularity. I'm not quite sure about the show's Japanese seiyuu, but I would like to find out who they are.

Has anyone else heard about Powerpuff Girls? Apparently it's gonna be an anime too! Cartoon Network and some other people are working on creating Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z.

I have an idea of whats gonna happen. Their going to take the powerpuff girls which, last time i checked, was already very popular and give the characters, settings e.t.c. "Anime-like elements" (such as the sweat drop). This is probably in an attempt to reach out to a larger audience (Kind of like "Teen Titans").

Personally, I dont think it will be very good (in comparison to Anime from japan). Whilst Japan's anime tends to focus tselph around a plot, building up characters as they come closer to their ultimate goal) this idea reeks of quick cash in :animesigh .

Still, this is just speculation. Hopefully i will be proven wrong (I doubt it though...).

Honestly that makes no sense heres why.

1. powerpuff girls is largely succesful and theres no point to making an anime for it
2. Those cartoon network people dont give a rats *** about power puff girls anymore
3. They already have an anime like spoof called totally spies which is in the process of flopping
On a side note, is it just me, or does the one on the left (one with the mallet) remind anyone else of Son Goku from Saiyuki in his demonic form? Or am I just nuts?
No your not nuts I see it to. This could be intresting I like the animation alot.I hated the giant heads on rag doll bodies design.

Some new information...
Toei Animation's anime reimagining of Cartoon Network's Powerpuff Girls, entitled Powerpuff Girls Z, is scheduled to debut in Japan in July, an Aniplex representative at the Tokyo Anime Fair said. The network is not yet confirmed, but will probably be TV Tokyo. The initial order is for about 50 to 52 episodes at 30 minutes each, with more possible depending on how successful the show turns out to be. No plans have yet been announced for a U.S. release.

[Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Powerpuff Girls Z would be premiering in April.]
Okay, so the fact that it's coming a little later makes me sad, but 52 episodes (with the potential for more) is very good news indeed.

Additionally, here are some new PPG Z screencaps and other images.

Wow this is going to be rather..intresting to say the less, its either going to be a "funny/watch my stomach explode with laugher kind of funny" or it could be one of those kind of things that I wished that I burnt my eyeballs inside out from seeing such an atrocious thing.

Yet from the screen shots, I can only guess but this kind of art style looked in a way kind of like Astro Boy's looked like, Needless I am going to be taking a look at this one.

Looking at that picture makes me feel like I'm on an acid trip...

I'm a little indifferent toward it. Although I know of the Powerpuff Girls, I never really watched it. When did it first air? I'm thinking I might have been older and never watched it, but I remember watching Dexter's Lab.
I'd have to see it first.

it looks good to me, and we can only hope that the adult in the picture (if you click on Dagger's link he's with the guy we all previously thought as the professor) is the real proffesor. but i have no idea who the kid is.

Surely though, its the adult. :all:

I really don't know what to expect here.

I was a big fan of the original series of the PPG but it went down hill in the later series.

The biggest question I have about this is will they use the same Voice Actors as they did in PPG or will they change them? Because I really CAN NOT imagine Bubbles sounding any other way than her cute little squeek! ^_^
