While I do love Craig McCraken's style of drawing in the original PPG, this looks so much cuter.
The biggest question I have about this is will they use the same Voice Actors as they did in PPG or will they change them? Because I really CAN NOT imagine Bubbles sounding any other way than her cute little squeek! ^_^
And I totally agree with Andrew. I love Bubbles, and if she gets a different voice I will be upset.Me and my little sister used to watch the original PPG and I could do Bubbles and Buttercup's voices perfectly.
Strange combo,I know.

But, to wrap up, this looks like it has potential.

Episode 1 thoughts: Yeah, I don't really care what anyone says, I loved it. The style of humor is different--the overall style is quite different, obviously--but the fourth wall breaking and
ice cream time-outs
were more than enough to satisfy me. I also had to dig the full-length transformation sequences, although I hope they shorten them in future episodes. The animation was quite good throughout, despite the fact that the battle scenes aren't at the level of, say, Pretty Cure's--but I wasn't expecting super-amazing martial arts from this to begin with. There were some interesting differences in the origin story, too.

There were two things I disliked, one of which is the fact that the series focuses more on Blossom than the original. The other, which bothered me more, is Bubbles' casting and general persona--she has a lower voice than Blossom, which is more than a little weird, and the ojou-sama vibe they gave her doesn't suit her in the slightest. The Bubbles I know would never say "Gokigenyo." On the plus side, most of that can probably be fixed simply by watching it in English, assuming that the dub uses the same actresses as the original series.

I'm definitely into the new character designs. I just think that Buttercup's over-all appearance looks warped because of her new purple-ish hair. And who the hell is that new kid that looks like a baby clone of the Professor? Creepy. XD
Plus... Snake looks like a sailor.

I used to love the PowerPuff Girls, so I'm all for this. I just hope I can find some fan subs in awhile, I don't think I want to wait for them to get it to the United States.

I found the first ep somewhat beizarre but possibly cause I didn't know what to expect. The characters designs were pretty cool, though I didn't like the costume transformation sequences as they were very reminiscent of Sailor moon, but then again that was the only part that annoyed me bout Sailor moon. The ice-cream break scene caught me off guard and from that point on I kinda just sat there stunned watching it. AFterwards though I couldn't stop laughing whatsoever.

And who would have thought a guy would like sailor moon ro power puff girls for that matter. :animeswea

I'm kinda happy that they are heading in a new direction, I mean they're trying their best to reach a broader audience, I didnt like the show in the first place.....

Awsome i'd like to see what happens when you take american cartoon and give it an anime upgrade. but like really Werid but cool idea's never some to the US but still i think it's a cool idea. byside it can't be any worst then the way Cartoon Network was making the show before i mean that season of the powerpuff girls was pretty awful. :animesigh Hmmm i wonder if they got Osamu Tezuka from astro boy to help make that show?

Oh I am pretty sure that he did, seeing as Astro Boy was made around the 50's although I am not to sure of that. That is unless the Japanease have either A. Found out how to do soul transfers and put Osamu Tezuka's soul in some persons dull and unimportant body or, B. The Japanease have become necromancers and brough him back from the dead.

PS: Your smilies scare me.

Wasn't trying to make you look stupid, just pointing something out :( ... and in the process answering your question. :p

Anyway, even if it wasn't done by Tezuka, it's definately inspired by him. It looks like the classic Tezuka style, especially that smaller version of the Proffessor...

I still haven't seen an episode of this, but I should soon... *goes off to desperately search for the first time*

I was looking forward to this quite a bit, but after seeing it... well, I'm trying very hard to spot a bright side, but as a whole I'm sorely disappointed in PPGZ. Overall I just don't think there's anything there - it feels like it was churned out, with only a few things fully thought through. I don't at all object to reimagining Powerpuff Girls as a magical girl series (I rather liked the idea when I first heard about it), but I do object to turning it into a mediocre magical girl series.

Where to start? This thing is very obviously on a budget, and it shows it badly. The contrast between the gloriously animated transformation sequences (which probably make the first episode worth watching all by themselves) and the rest of the show is painful, the music is serviceable at best, and the fight scenes... god, the fight scenes. Now, the original PPG pretty much thrived on its speed and density, like it just had way too much to do to fit it all into a single episode (but went ahead and tried anyways), and this showed especially in the fights. Now, the PPGZ fights aren't completely languid, but they're far from exciting... and in comparison, the rest of the show is even more S L O W. And that about sums it up: the absolute worst thing about this first episode was that it wasn't exciting and wasn't excited. The original sprints like it's Tomo on triple espresso; Powerpuff Girls Z acts more like it's dragging itself to an 8am class.

On the plus side: the voice acting is quite good, the character designs are excellent (most of the reason why I was looking forward to this series), and again the transformation sequences are wonderful. Plus, they actually managed to make Blossom an appealing character! (she was kind of boring in the original) But I feel like I'm grasping at straws here - there's just very little substance in the series to compliment, I'm sorry to say.

Heh. I love the title of this thread.

I'm watching the first episode and pausing it as I write my inital reactions.

Episode 1
OT: Song sucks. The girls are cute enough to make my eyes burn, though. :D The animation is... decent. I'll have to watch the rest of the show.

Girls, We Need You!

1:41- Talking dog's voice hurts my ears.
1:43- Transformation sequence... Too many poses and with...gansta signs?
1:50- First fighting sequence. The animation budget seems to be set, considering the slow pace and stock images... somehow while in the air fighting at a minimal pace, the entire city below them was wrecked.
1:53- MS. SARA BELLUM IS NOT A REDHEAD! BLASPHEMY!
1:56- ... Ice cream sequence... I don't know whether to be laughing at the crackness of this show or to be irritated.

Girls, Your Birth!

2:01- What happened to sugar, spice, and everything nice? :(
2:06- "Could it be? Could I be a transforming heroine?" *snort/laugh*
2:07- Only in Japan could this show be made... Oh, Buttercup. You and your gansta signs. As I force myself to laugh.
Ok, so for a kids' show I think it flies well. I don't think little kids would notice something like animation that much. Of course, I have no idea if it is made for them, because Japan is just inane to me like that sometimes. If it is made for kids... I dunno. I'd probably watch it.

I don't feel like being harsh on this show, since I get the feeling it's not for my age group or older at all. The girls are insanely cute, I think you could get cavities from them or something. >_> I have to admit the fighting sequences were *very* slow and I skipped through a lot of it. The only thing that kept me interested throughout most of it were the character designs, and I'd have to say everything else was pretty mediocre at best. The humor is really crackish, but cute (how many times have I used that word so far?), although sometimes I didn't know how to react.

I will probably never watch this show again, but I can see why some people would.
