2010DigitalBoy
I have never played Shining Tears, Phantom Brave, or Disgaea, but all of these games looks really cool. Ive been wondering, are these games worth my time and money? All of them look practically the same. Is it worth it to get all of them? Also, is it worth it to buy a PS2 just to have these games? Sir Auron
If you like rpgs, then ps2 is the console to get. Disgaea is the game for you if you like to leveling alot, because you can level up to level 9999, if you had the patience. As for Shining Tears, i had heard bad comments about this game. Semjaza
I don't know if a PS2 is worth it just for those few games, but for everything including those it certainly is. There's some great RPGs on there, cartoony and otherwise. I loved Disgaea. It's better than La Pucelle (it's predecessor) and from what I hear, Phantom Brave (which was developed afterwards). A fun story with some fun characters. Very deep, even for a strategy game. There is just so much to do in every last respect. You have to be really into leveling up and long battles though, because that's mostly what this game is all about. Shining Tears supposedly sucks. Sir Auron had a thread asking about it the other day. Dark Cloud 2 is an excellent game, although it's more of an action RPG. You kind of just run around randomized dungeons fulfilling quests and such, but it's done very well. There's a ridiculous amount of sidequests in the game too. I'd also suggest Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga (which comes out next week). They're quite a bit more serious and dark than the other titles mentioned here, but they do have an awesome art style that's a nice mix of cartoon and realism. I know there's more, but they're not coming to mind for some reason.
2010DigitalBoy
I wouldn'y conside Tensei a "cartoony" RPG. Anywaym I used to have a PS2 (and I have Dark Cloud) but it recently broke and I got rid of it. Ive been really looking into these cartoony RPGs and I think Phantom Brave, La Pucelle, Shining Tears, and that new one coming soom with the alchemy are all cool looking. I like leveling up, so some of this sounds cool.

(Although, I'm sure that Playstation has put out enough games that you would enjoy enough to make it worth your buck.)
Erika
Well, I wouldn't really label cel-shading as "cartoony". I don't know, as rabid lover of such graphics, I feel like they're being criticized everytime someone states it as "cartoony". I guess it's just me. Anyways, DC2 IS awesome. Generic pretty much summed it up. That game is so addicting and pleasing to the eyes and ears that it's ridiculous. But what's even more ridiculous is that there's not really enough games like that. *sob* EDIT: Simply don't worry about the reviews and just RENT the games you're interested in. ^_^ Simple advice for the fickle gamer. :p
Kamuro
well, cartoony or not, theres a lot of good rpg's for PS2, just because its not a big name, or you havn't heard of it before doesn't mean its not a good game, theres lots of random RPG's for PS2 that don't get much recognition, but they're good
BlueYoshi
It's generally up to preference, really, as with most things. With Phantom Brave, I came extremely close to buying an American PS2 just for the sake of playing it, simply because I live for tactical RPGs just like it. It's a great game, and I'd definitely recommend it, but whether or not you're willing to buy a PS2 for the sake of it really just depends. I've still not played it, but eh. Apparently, Disgaea is better than Phantom Brave, so I'd imagine that any decision made regarding the two would have to be applied to one before the other, heh.
Semjaza
Phantom Brave is $20 new at Gamestop now, if anyone is still interested in it. I didn't bother to pick it up, personally.
Tatsubei Yagyu
Whoa!!! I didn't it was 20$ now!!! Anyway, I have Disgaea. It's great! I really like how many different types of allies you can have. I had on the field at once, a ninja (who I consider me in the game, because I named him "Tatsu"), a Dragon (my pet :catgirl: ), a Kung-Fu cat girl,a demon with a axe, a Angel with a gun, and Laharl (shirtless main character). And if you think THAT is diverse, then you should of seen my other people members. :D
