Movie games.

Hey again! Get this: I heard that some movies are getting games based on them. Not recent movies, more like older ones. They are as follows:

"The Godfather" This game has some of the last recorded diolouge by Marlen Brando. In it, you play a guy who goes up through the ranks, and becomes a "made man", as it is. The movies plot is involved, keep in mind.

"Scarface" Yup. A game based on Al Pachino's classic film that inspired "GTA: Vice City", is a tad odd. Antonio died at the end of the movie, and in the game he wakes in the hospital for some reason. He finds his empire in ruins, and he has to build it from the ground up. It's GTA style, but because of Tony's ethics, he won't just randomly kill people. The world is yours.

"Jaws" You heard me. This game is made by the makers of "Echo The Dolphin". In it though, you get to be Bruce (The name of the shark given by the cast and crew of the first movie.). You get to eat fish, people, cause chaos, go crazy at the sent of blood, etc. It has a plot too. Bruce has killed a son of a CEO on the island of Amtvile. The CEO calls a shark hunter, and marine biologist Michael Brody (Son of Roy Shinider's Chief Brody from the first movie) to find you. Sounds like fun.

What next? A "Dirty Harry" shooter? A "Braveheart" RTS? What do you guys think?

I have to admit that the first two sounds quite interesting, I enjoyed the three Godfather films and if the games shapes up well it could definitely be something to keep and eye out for. The game itself seems to bare a lot similarity to the game Mafia and as such I wouldn't be surprised if the game itself has the same kind of play, although I still prefer Grand Theft Auto's style of gameplay and combat.

As for the Scarface game, I have to admit that I too am I little surprised that he just "got better" after the infamous ending to the film. Still since GTA: Vice City was based off Scarface, so it's likely that the Scarface game will play like Vice City, but who says that'd be a bad thing. Still since Tony wil be one of the sole survivors of the film [It's been ages since I saw it so please forgive me if I'm wrong], they'd have to introduce a new cast, which in itself would add something new to the game.

As for the Jaws game, I raised my eyebrow in a bit of amused curiosity at that one, I don't think it'd be my style of gaming, but there's probably plenty of Echo the Dolphin fans out there.

Out of game possibilities, I'd enjoy seeing a Gladiator-based action game, a bit like Jedi Academy in the way your primary weapon would be a sword but still the story is strong and would be quite workable as a game.

The Godfather looks amazing. Though I must say, it will feel a bit creepy playing that game with Brando speaking in it. I suppose I am weird like that.

Scarface is a game that I am a little sceptical about. If it wasn't shaping up to be a GTA ripoff I would feel alot better about it. However, I think the game will just use it's name and GTA style of gameplay to cash in. Hopefully I am wrong.

Now Jaws sounds too awesome. This is one of those games I have always dreamed of but never counted on it being made. But now that it is being made, hopefully they will do a great job in making a stellar game. Who knows, maybe we could see a Freddy or Jason game where you play as either one of the maniacs. It would be great!

Jaws could be interesting. I think the Ecco games are cool, but ultimately I found them rather boring. I'd think being a shark would be more exciting than being a dolphin, though. Anything is better than the original NES game though. What the hell lol.

Movie games are still pretty much universally terrible. The exceptions are usually just mediocre. I don't own a single movie based game for current consoles and I really don't plan to in the future. I tend to not even give them a chance anymore lol.

I think the only movie-based game that I actually liked was Goldeneye on Nintendo 64. But obviously that was a very rare exception.

I can't really think of any other movie-based games that I liked. The only one might be Ninja Turtles (the arcade game) on SNES. That was simply awesome. But Ninja Turtles is also a TV series and comic book as well as a movie, so that probably doesn't count.

Although I hated the Ecco games, I am rather thrilled at the prospect of being able to be a shark and devour people--that just sounds way too fun:animesmil .

As far as the others go, I think I'm with James on this one--it's hard to find decent movie-based games-- except that I do love the LOTR games, as well as 007 .

Listen to this: There IS going to be a "Dirty Harry" game, and Clint Eastwood has agreed to do the voice overs. Also the next 007 game is going to be based on the classic Bond film "From Russia With Love", and Sean Connery is doing the voice overs. XBOX is getting a exclusive shooter based on "Starship Troopers" (Will Casper Vandiem, Denise Richards, and the mighty Michael Ironside do voice overs? I hope so.). And here's the weird part. A game based on Quintin Tarintino's "Resvouior Dogs." I wonder how Tarintio thinks about it? And yet again, another "Evil Dead" game. Yes, Bruce is doing the voice overs. And Sam Rami's brother Ted is doing a voice too. Do you think these games could work?

well, it sounds kind of retarded to me lol. As James said most movie based games suck. It would be terrible to take such good movies and turn them into a game. They'd have to modify the story and change a lot of the voice acting, I mean c'mon, would you really want that? I doubt they would make a Jaws game, by the way. Ecco had a terrible concept, and as fun as it would be to randomly eat people, I'm thinking it would get old.

There is going to be one. I checked it out in a couple gaming mags. This months "Electronic Gaming Monthly", and this months "Playstation Magazine." And I saw it when I looked it up on Gamestop.com. The "Jaws" game takes place thirty years after the first film, and has alot of homages to the classic film as well. Speaking of which, have you read the book?

I seriously find your opinions unfounded and unjustified.

Ecco never had a terrible concept, it was quite a popular game for the Sega Megadrive. No other game out there was like it, and exploration in the form of a dolphin was quite a first. (I'm talking about the whole series.)

If it was such a terrible concept, then a Jaws game would not be being made, based off of the basics behind the Ecco games that would have been researched before games development.

I doubt it was as successful on the Dreamcast, however. If someone would care to fill me in.

And yeah, as confirmed, a Jaws game is in the works. Screenshots have been released in magazines and everything.

I was rather disappointed with the previous Evil Dead games, but as a die-hard Evil Dead (and Bruce Campbell *hails to the king*) fan, I'll be sure to pick the newest one up, as well...:animesmil

As for the Jaws game-- I think it looks pretty good-- I, too would get a kick out of random human-devouring. Even if I grew bored with it, it could sit on my shelf until I was once again in the mood to chomp chumps...

HAHAHA Get it? Rare? the name of the company? come on people!

Well...Like I saw on G4TV with the show deticating themselves to the games created from movies. I REALLY want to see Supersize me turned into a game. :P But in all seriousness. If the game has a good depth, plot, feel to it. Then by all means make it a good game. HOWEVER for gods sakes please if you want to put in voiceover put in the REAL actors voice. *for example* Bad Boys 2 Miami takedown. WORSE GAME EVER! why? No will smith or Martin Lawrence. The feel to it was also aweful in my opinion. Anywho enough scwabble from me. *toddles off to Neverwinter Nights again*
